Foundation Day Festival: At the Entrance
Character(s): everyone entering the festival by the gate
Content: weapons confiscation, greetings, etc.
Setting: Joco da Crianca Fairgrounds, entrance
Time: all day~
Warnings: Multithreaded posting format (please include time of day and sub-location in your comment's subject line)
For the festival, the Jogo da Crianca fairgrounds have been ringed by a modular eight-foot-tall iron-bar fence. Signs all around the vicinity point to the entrance, which is the only large gap in the fence. Because this is Paixao, there is a line to get in, but it moves quickly.
At the front of the line is a small security team; as people enter, they are asked to check their weapons or dangerous items with festival staff. Once unarmed, they are given a receipt to pick up their items on the way out, as well as one complimentary raffle ticket, and are allowed to proceed into the fairgrounds.
Just inside the entrance are two tents, one labeled "SECURITY / LOST AND FOUND," and the other labeled with "FIRST AID" and a large red cross.

"All pirates should love a good party," he always said. Good friends make up the foundation for any good party, and by adding in music and enough good food to go around, Luffy and his crew usually became the biggest thing to hit any port they landed in.
Following the line as it shuffled in, crowded in by a sea of unfamiliar faces all waiting for the same thing, Luffy made his way in due time to the front. The security team eyed him for a moment, but seeing him as a young, skinny little thing with a rather oblivious smile, really had no reason to be suspicious that he was, in fact, a very wanted man. After being handed his raffle ticket, Luffy's grin expanded, and he started off into the crowd with a quick gallop.
In line - About 10 AM.
She was just hoping that this little party the town was having would distract him from his sullen embarrassment. She'd heard a little bit of gossip about the event and had decided to drag Sword along in an attempt to brighten his mood. Sadly, they'd missed the opening ceremonies, but they still had most of the day to spend! Best of all, there were games and free food. Who could turn that down? Vala certainly couldn't. She was a sucker for a good party.
They were almost to the front of the line now. In a few moments, they would be inside and hopefully having the time of their lives.
Re: In line - About 10 AM.
Bah. Just because it was a festival didn't guarantee that it would be fun. It'd be huge, of course, since it was designed for humans, and incredibly awkward--if not outright impossible--for him to properly navigate and enjoy what was there. That also meant there would be ghastly crowds of citizens and fellow refugees to navigate through, while trying not to be kicked, tripped over, stepped on, or have something set down on him. He'd probably not even be able to play the games.... Still, free food was a nice perk. He didn't know how much more money he had left.
So yes, Sword was not happy, and doubted seriously he would be at the festival. He would be even less happy soon enough, when he discovered that he would be deprived of his sword and armor.
Re: In line - About 10 AM.
Standing in line - around 11 AM
But that was of lesser concern and could be dealt with when and if it came up. For now, it was time to simply mingle and watch.
Re: Standing in line - around 11 AM
It would have been better for everyone if he'd managed to convince Laharl and the other demons not to come, though. He was still pretty sure the organization would have people there, and they'd recognize Laharl for sure, and he'd tried to talk them out of it, but... well, he'd been outvoted.
So they happened in line not far behind a man not much taller than himself - and not blond, either, he'd have to talk to him... in a minute.

In Line - Noonish
She hissed slightly at the memory of her conversation with Piers, toeing the ground underfoot. He was a Mercury Adept, and he had been no slouch with his powers at Jupiter Lighthouse, let alone this long afterward. If it came to an all-Psynergy brawl, she suspected he might have the advantage.
But even more importantly, he had seen her dead body, and had indicated that Ivan should be dead as well. How many times and by how many people had she been reassured that those around her were alive, with no reason to be otherwise? Had that many people lied to her? Was the joyous-looking city of Paixao really some demented land of the dead?
Was Menardi-
Karst cut that thought off before it could complete itself. She had asked, and all those from Weyard who were in Paixao had answered. There was no reason for her sister to have done otherwise.
Which meant she was back at the beginning. Lining up for a gate, preparing to abandon the few things she felt most comfortable with, even consorting with the enemy...
Maybe not entirely back at the beginning. Karst had taken her time in preparing for today's festival and meeting. She'd polished her shoes and her leather armor, cleaned and sharpened her scythe, trimmed the stray threads from her capes and had them washed, overcame her fear of water enough to wash herself completely for the first time in over a month, and even buffed her shoulder scales to a bright shine. The scrawny half-grown Proxian girl of Jupiter Lighthouse, dirty from travel and fear of water, was gone, replaced by a better-groomed, healthier-looking... half-grown Proxian girl. Some things just didn't change. Nonetheless, she would present herself as best as possible, and possibly intimidate the others into treating her peacefully and respectfully.
Having to surrender her weapon for a short time is only a small setback, she tried to tell herself. I'll get to talk to the other Adepts, and maybe some of them will have a better idea of whether we are alive or dead or... For the time being, my survival-- or whatever this is-- is more important than my need for vengeance. She tried not to think about her conversation with Ivan, when he had said that what had happened at Venus Lighthouse had been in self-defense.
She would give up her scythe to the security forces without fuss and wait for the others just inside the gate, where they couldn't miss her (nor she them) if they tried.
Re: In Line - Noonish
His earlier conversation with Ivan had left him even more confused than before; did he really have amnesia? The thought was strange, but was slowly starting to sound more and more likely to him. If the answers he needed could be found at a festival, he wouldn't complain.
When he finally reached the entrance, he gave up his sword without complaint - it was only for a little while, after all - and walked into the fairgrounds.

In line - about 9 AM
But she was with her other, newer friends, Rakka and Stitch, and as they couldn't very well fly over the fence, it wouldn't be fair for her to sneak in without them. So she waited between people bigger than her, or more often above them or off to the side to minimize the chance of getting squished between them.
To pass the time while the line moved forward, she entertained herself by alternately looking over the tops of people's heads, and floating excitedly around Rakka and Stitch. "Oooh, I can't wait!" she exclaimed, grinning. "This is gonna be so much fun! I love parties! You guys love parties too, right?"
Not like they'd say no, since they were all in line for one, right?
Re: In line - about 9 AM
"Glie never had anything like this," Rakka said, grinning ear to ear. It was true--the New Year celebration was the closest thing to it, and it was a subdued holiday. "I can't wait!"
Re: In line - about 9 AM
In Line - 12 PM
She gave the security guard everything with the exception of the Death Time stop watch, as its only purpose was to temporarily stop time anyway, and was given a receipt for her items and a raffle ticket. Alice looked at the ticket quizzically, wondering what purpose it would serve, then shrugged. She was glad they had beaten off the very large crowds for the moment.
"Shall we my dear?" Alice asked Chizuru, extending her left forearm.
Re: In Line - 12 PM
Chizuru remembered running around these things as a child. Playing games for cheap prizes-- toys that always broke, goldfish that always died-- the raffle prize drawing for something that wouldn't always break, the music, the rides that she was no longer little enough to go on, the food... the FOOD.
"Let's get a funnel cake!" she said, spotting the giant food tent and tugging her "date" toward it. "Traditional festival food, right? Fattening and covered in sugar..."
Re: In Line - 12 PM
In line 11AM-ish
He passed through the gates with minimal effort, he figured he'd tour the festival first, just to find the spot with the highest traffic, of course. Not that he had any interest in such an event.
At the entrance, noonish
He held Laevatain, still in its sheath, out to the young man who had the misfortune of being assigned to this task. "Don't let anyone try to draw it; I don't think you want a fire in that tent," he advised, hoping against hope that he would not be required to empty his pockets. Although, somewhere deep down he did somehow feel like he'd derive a perverse pleasure in making the poor guy gawk at all the different weapons he could produce from a single pocket...
The paper charm Mina had created for him seemed to be working; he had not yet felt any overpowering urges to seek out a source of blood, nor the need to unleash his dark minions upon the city in a blitzkrieg of conquest.
Re: At the entrance, noonish
boyfriend's shoulder at everything. She, too, knew that Soma hadn't given up more than a fraction of his arsenal, and when asked about weapons on her person, she only smiled and held out her empty hands. There was a bottle of holy water in the satchel she'd picked up, and if there was an emergency, that and the paper charms up her sleeve would buy enough time to get everyone evacuated from the fairground."Where to first?" Mina asked, watching the colorful shapes of other strangers and the golden figures of the Paixaoan locals mingle, hearing the baseline of music not far away and the shouts of children at the games, smelling the distant scents of the food tent, and half-shouting so Soma would hear her above the crowds. Festivals had something for all the senses, and while they might have been overwhelming to some people, she'd been to several parties in her lifetime and knew more or less what to expect.
It wasn't every day one went to a party with an incarnation of Dracula at one's side, but she didn't think Soma would hurt anyone. She knew he wouldn't hurt anyone. She trusted him better than that.
Re: At the entrance, noonish
almost 1ish - yay late :D
She kept her eyes from grazing the ground, kept from sinking into herself.
Herself. What about herself? Could she be one of those people to accept this place? Thus far everything had been crazy... She had barely entered the city before being attacked by Nobodies. And then there was her friends, and she didn't care about being trapped, but now... heh, now both are gone again. Things have slowed down.
She wasn't sure what to think about Paixao anymore.
Why did it seem... she was always, always waiting?
Re: almost 1ish - yay late :D
There was no way to tell just how much she knew about the Organization. With that in mind, Vexen saw no need to introduce himself, at least not at the curent moment. He simply stood behind her, taking in the sights of the festival - he'd not been involved in its planning, after all, and so everything was new to him - and remaining silent.

In line - Around 10 AM
Turning around, he smiled brightly at his companion. To be going to a festival with Uchiha Itachi of all people, who would've known! It was obvious the Jinchuuriki was in high spirits despite the events that had occurred only a day before. There was no point moping about it and he didn't want to worry Itachi. After all, it was tough on him too what with the memory loss and all.
"What should we check out first?" he asked, mind full with thoughts about the free food and games.
Re: In line - Around 10 AM
The amnesiac offered Naruto a smile as he considered the blonde's question. "You had wanted to get food, right?" he asked. "That might be a good place to start."
After all, that had been the first thing brought up when they had considered going to the festival. And Itachi still didn't seem surprised that Naruto was excited about the thought of free food. Somehow, it seemed fitting.

In line, 10:30
But he was here, in line to enter, with a little green-haired girl from god-knows-where in tow, trying to find someone she knew so that he wouldn't wind up leaving her by herself. After all, she seemed pretty helpless.
The line moved pretty quickly, but the real problem began when they reached the front. "I'm sorry, sir, but we can't allow weapons to be taken into the fairgrounds," said one of the (identical-looking) yellow-haired men.
Jintetsu paused and stared at him for a second. "What?"
Re: In line, 10:30
After a short wait in line, they were soon at the gate, but she looked on worriedly as the man at the gate was giving Jintetsu troubles over his sword. Quickly she spoke up, "Oh... um... well if that's a problem, then we don't have to go in." She didn't want to cause him any more trouble than she already was.

Re: In Line - 10:43 EXACTLY
But for now, he simply waited his turn in line. This was part of the experience, after all, and walking through the wall felt somehow like cheating. He looked to the young man in front of him - ah, a name and a lifespan, indications of a living person in this city of insanity. EXCUSE ME, CHRISTOPHER, he intoned, tapping the boy lightly on the shoulder, BUT DO YOU KNOW WHEN THIS FESTIVAL IS SUPPOSED TO START? I FEAR I MIGHT BE LATE.

In line---roughly 11:30am
She did recognize one familiar person's signature in the area, though with a smile--an old friend--though not that old.
She was here more to learn the stories of the city than anything else, meeting people was about as important, though.
She turned in her sword respectably to the officials, giving an elegant bow toward the men out of respect. She had other intangible weapons that could be used if necessary.
In Line - 2:00
Rikku... his niece... She was here in this place. He hadn't seen her in so long, not since his wife's death. And he doubted the girl even remembered that event (though he couldn't say he wouldn't be glad if she didn't). But it was her words that stayed with him more than anything else. The world was gone; Spira was gone. He moved his staff about in his hands, staring at the ground with a grim look upon his face. Braska had left the world, but he didn't enjoy the thought that it was now as dead as he.
But perhaps there was some mistake. Rikku had been acting rather odd. She hadn't heard of the Guado and didn't seem even a little surprised that he was talking to her. He was supposed to be on the Farplane, after all. And, now that he thought about it, she kept referring to Home as if it were Spira itself and not the former Al Bhed city in Bikanel. That, he thought, was the most perplexing of all. The ex-summoner had the feeling he was missing something, but he couldn't put his finger on what.
As he looked up, Braska found himself at the end of the line. After a minor, but polite, argument, he reluctantly handed his staff over, shaking his head. He just wasn't used to leaving it behind anywhere. But it was doubtful that it would be needed in this place, and even then he still had his magic.
He supposed he should get to looking.
Going through the line - 1:00 PM
She giggled when the man asked her to hand over any weapons she might have, and held out her empty hands. "Ahnassi carries no weapons," she assured the guard. "She is a simple monk and does no harm to anyone." This was a half-truth, of course. She was more thief than monk, but you didn't go around telling that sort of thing to guards. The bit about not hurting people was completely true, of course. That was the part most people were worried about, anyway.
The man looked slightly disconcerted at the sight of her sharp claws, but he still waved her through. In all likelihood, more dangerous "unarmed" people had already passed through the gate.
in-line roughly 10:30am
Re: in-line roughly 10:30am
She was strangely happy right now, enjoying the moment. She found herself looking forward to getting beyond the gates. It'd be... an experience. "Thank you, Bakura," she said with a smile out of the blue, interrupting whatever he was saying.
(( Not really off Hiatus yet, buuut let's see how much I can get done today XD))

Watching the Line - 1:30pm
Hearing word of some sort of festival and seeing the mass ammount of people heading in the direction of the fair, feeling curious he'd followed wondering what it was all about.
Japan was full of festivals, so he was some what curious to find out what kind of festival this Paixao would have.
Stepping into the line he got to the gate and was rather dismayed when the gatekeeper wanted his sakabatou. He showed the blade, explaining how it could not kill, but they still wanted it. While Kenshin appreciated the notion of keeping things inside peaceful, he wasn't sure he wanted to part with his sakabatou, so for now he'd stepped out of the line, he stood there watching people passing through as he tried to decide if his curiousity outweighed his need to keep his weapon close.
Re: Watching the Line - 1:30pm
That thought was what led to his annoyance once he reached the end of the line. In all honesty, had the situation been any different, he would only have been slightly bothered in handing his sword over. After all, it was understandable that they'd want the festival to be safe, and making people turn in their weapons would get rid of many problems. He became used to having his blade kept safely away when he lived in Zanarkand. But, with things as they were, the former guardian couldn't help but be suspicious.
Looking over, Auron noted another man who seemed to be in a similar situation and wondered if he himself should step out of the line. He was holding most of the people back, and he hadn't decided whether the rewards outweighed the risks. Reluctantly, he stepped away, going through every possibility in his head.

"Funnel cake first thing, okay?" Nina said, latching onto Repliku's hand again and swinging it with a grin.
Re: In Line - 2:30 pm
He too had taken the same role as Alexander, wary of the people around him as he observed their surroundings. So far there had been nothing suspicious and he hoped it would stay that way.
"Sure thing," Repliku chuckled, allowing her to swing his hand and even moving along with it. This almost felt like having a little sister. Like....like being around the Naminé in his memories.
