Foundation Day Festival: At the Entrance

Character(s): everyone entering the festival by the gate
Content: weapons confiscation, greetings, etc.
Setting: Joco da Crianca Fairgrounds, entrance
Time: all day~
Warnings: Multithreaded posting format (please include time of day and sub-location in your comment's subject line)

For the festival, the Jogo da Crianca fairgrounds have been ringed by a modular eight-foot-tall iron-bar fence. Signs all around the vicinity point to the entrance, which is the only large gap in the fence. Because this is Paixao, there is a line to get in, but it moves quickly.

At the front of the line is a small security team; as people enter, they are asked to check their weapons or dangerous items with festival staff. Once unarmed, they are given a receipt to pick up their items on the way out, as well as one complimentary raffle ticket, and are allowed to proceed into the fairgrounds.

Just inside the entrance are two tents, one labeled "SECURITY / LOST AND FOUND," and the other labeled with "FIRST AID" and a large red cross.

"I'm not worrying." Sword groused, arms folded. He was buried safely in his armor, once again; his tone and stance were the only things betraying his irritation now, and as nobody could see his actual body or face, they couldn't have told that he was still embarrassed, or that the bites and scratches he'd gotten still hurt.

Bah. Just because it was a festival didn't guarantee that it would be fun. It'd be huge, of course, since it was designed for humans, and incredibly awkward--if not outright impossible--for him to properly navigate and enjoy what was there. That also meant there would be ghastly crowds of citizens and fellow refugees to navigate through, while trying not to be kicked, tripped over, stepped on, or have something set down on him. He'd probably not even be able to play the games.... Still, free food was a nice perk. He didn't know how much more money he had left.

So yes, Sword was not happy, and doubted seriously he would be at the festival. He would be even less happy soon enough, when he discovered that he would be deprived of his sword and armor.

Vala wasn't entirely surprised when they reached the front of the line and were asked to turn over their weapons. She didn't entirely like the idea of giving up her best means of defense, especially since she'd already had to use it on two separate occasions since coming to the city. Still, it wasn't like she wasn't used to getting out of scrapes through other methods. If more trouble showed up, she would just think up a new way of getting out of it. At least there didn't seem to be any obvious dangers at the festival.

She still spent a few moments arguing with the security guard to try to get him to let her keep the weapon, even suggesting that if he let her have the zat, he might have a more... interesting evening that night. She was just a bit annoyed when he turned her down flat. At least some people PRETENDED to be flattered. He just gave her a stern look and repeated his request for her weapon, holding out his hand expectantly.

Knowing she was thwarted, Vala handed over the item with a pitying look, "Suit yourself... You're no fun at all."

He didn't bother to answer her as he locked up the weapon and gave her a receipt and a ticket for the festival's raffle. If he'd been a little more friendly, she would have asked him if the ticket was a winner, but considering how her other teasing comments had fallen on deaf ears, she decided it would be a waste of time. Some people really needed to learn how to live a little.
