A Very Special Episode [Completed]

Character(s): Urd, Vyers, Laharl
Content: Vyers and Laharl are manipulated by a certain goddess.
Setting: Outside Muspelheim Gate
Time: Evening, Week 7
Warnings: None.

It'd been a fairly busy week for Urd, really. Finding a new place and settling in, getting closer to Genie, dealing with Yorda and her boy. But this, this particular task was one she'd really been looking forward to. This had to do with demons, after all.

She sat on the outside of the roof of the domes of the city, unnoticed by those citizens milling so far below. After all, who would think to look up? Idly playing with a curling tendril of white hair tinged slightly lavender by the natural evening light, Urd watched the fields below carefully.

Both said they'd come...both, presumably, out of love. Or at the very least, some kind of attachment. Even demons from her world had, she supposed, some emotion to them outside of the usual greed and hatred and lust for power. How far would these two go, both so in denial of their own feelings? She didn't know but she was greatly looking forward to finding out.

Laharl closed his eyes just waiting for the bite, but it didn't come. Prying his eyes open, he saw it knocked aside and someone coming up to him. Gritting his teeth in pain, his eyes widened at the one who'd come to his rescue.

"O-Old Man?!"

His father had actually followed him?!

Vyers knelt beside Laharl, occasionally glancing back at the fallen Lumen to make sure it hadn't recovered yet. He stared for a moment, noting the singed leg and wondering just what had caused it. None of the grass had looked burned when he had arrived, so it had to have been something else... the Lumen, perhaps?

He chuckled at Laharl's exclamation, a small smile appearing on his face. "I suppose you could call this a first step?"

It wasn't long after that that he heard rustling nearby, and he reached over to help Laharl to his feet.

The young demon blinked up at Vyers several more times. He just couldn't believe it. After all that, his father had actually followed. Laharl really hadn't expected that.

A first step, huh?

"...Heh... Maybe," was Laharl's quiet reply, before glancing over, also hearing the rustles. Swallowing down his pain, he reached up, grabbing Vyers' hand. Stubborn as Laharl was, even he knew he had no chance of moving without help till the glowy goo was washed from his leg.

Unsteadily, the Overlord managed to get onto his feet, but was still clearly in pain. "Gotta... get this stuff off," he gasped. "It's kinda like... Flonne's pendant."

Like Flonne's pendant? How strange... If that was the case, then shouldn't there be no damage at all? Vyers looked for something to wipe off the strange substance, realizing with disgust that the only thing available to him for that was his jacket.

The demon stared at his sleeve for a moment, making a face and looking away as he tried to wipe the goo off of Laharl's leg. Why must my garments be the ones to suffer? he thought to himself, trying to keep it away from his skin. He hoped it could be washed out.
overlords_wrath: (What was that?)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-04 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
It was probably a good thing that with Vyers leaning down to try to clean his leg, Laharl couldn't see the expression on his father's face. And like-wise Vyers wouldn't be able to see the look of surprise on Laharl's face, as the boy held onto his Father's arm to stay steady while Vyers' attempted to clean his leg off.

It wasn't removing all the stick substance, but at least enough was coming off to lessen the pain. However, there wasn't any more time for messing around like this. Laharl could hear something moving.

"O-Oi, don't worry. I'll manage!" Laharl told his Old Man urgently. "We gotta move!"

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-04 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Vyers nodded, hearing the same thing Laharl had and secretly thankful that he didn't have to get anymore of the goo on his clothes. "How well do you think you'll be able to walk?" he asked quickly, eyes darting back and forth as he searched for any sign of the Lumen.
overlords_wrath: (Concerned)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-04 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
"I.. I said I'll manage," Laharl repeated, although it sounded shakey. He wasn't really sure himself. He hadn't exactly had to walk crippled with pain very often in his life, but he was stubborn. If he said he'd manage, he'd try to manage. Hopefully. Ergh...

"I won't know till we move," he finally admittedly. He didn't like running away at all, of course, but he was no good like this.

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-04 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Vyers didn't look convinced at first. Laharl didn't exactly sound as though he was all right, and with that substance still clinging to him as it was, Vyers had a feeling the walk was not going to be an easy one. But, after the second statement, he reluctantly began walking through the grass, only speeding up once he heard movement again.

"It should be this way."

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-04 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
There was pretty much a permanent grimace etched on the boy's face, but he was keeping up at first, fueled by sheer determination. He sensed the movement as well, and tried at first to keep up, but quickly was falling behind, much to Laharl's pure frustration.

He really hated being injured. He was still managing. At least until he stumbled over a rock. He wasn't doing so well then. Laharl stifled a cry, as the rough ground met the already sore skin of his leg. Assuming a crouched position, he sat there cringing and clenching his teeth as he waited for the pain to subside to get back up.

"Dammit... Dammit..."

Ah, he was keeping up, that was good. He had been worried. Or... he had been. Where had he--? Vyers heard Laharl fall behind him and stopped, concern flashing across his face for an instant before he backtracked. He crouched by Laharl's side, shaking his head. This wasn't going to work. He sighed, "You should have let me get more of it off."

There was a moment's pause as Vyers glanced behind them. Well, it was better not to take chances in this case, was it not? Laharl would probably complain about this, but it was better than being found by that creature again. Vyers picked the demon boy up before getting to his feet again.
overlords_wrath: (Cute Look)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-04 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
He wondered if Vyers had missed the fact he'd stumbled, but then there he was beside him.

"And then we'd have had that thing right on our heels," he gritted out, still trying to get ahold of the pain. The boy was getting ready to force himself when he was surprised when arms encircled him and he was lifted from the ground.

Laharl would have complained loudly in any other circumstance but he was a bit too shocked and in pain to bother. Well, for now anyways. Of course, that didn't mean he wasn't going to say anything at all.

"Y-you... you didn't have to..." he began.

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-04 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
Vyers was rather surprised to be honest. He had expected something a little more vocal than that. ...A lot more vocal than that. Laharl must have been more hurt than he had let on. "Of course not! But it allows us to get back faster, does it not? And the sooner we arrive, the sooner this entire situation can be taken care of," he explained. "And the sooner we can speak with the person who put us in this situation in the first place."

Though now that he thought about it, he wasn't sure what he would tell the goddess (if it was indeed her who had plotted all of this). On one hand, he couldn't stand the trickery of it all, but on the other hand, he actually was becoming closer to his son again, and that... that he was thankful for.
overlords_wrath: (Hidden Face)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-04 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
Laharl couldn't really argue with that logic. He never thought he'd be relieved to be back under the domes. Ever. As for that goddess, he was wondering if she even knew anything about Etna at all in the first place. Could she have had a hand in this? Hm...

Well, whatever. They had to FIND her first. In the meanwhile...

The boy had been silent for a long moment before he suddenly spoke up again. "Oi. If you tell anyone I let you do this, I'll KICK your ass, Old Man."

Maybe he was hurting more than he'd been letting on, but either way it needed to be said. He didn't need anyone knowing he'd been reduced to this.

Vyers chuckled at the statement. There it was. He had expected him to say as much. There was a playful glint in the demon's eye as he replied. "Hm? Tell anyone about what?"
overlords_wrath: (Profile Smile)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-04 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
He didn't like the sound of that laugh at first, and was ready to say something along the lines of 'he meant it' or something like that. However, it wasn't needed in the end. It seemed his Father had caught on all too well.

Laharl seemed pleased with the answer, a small quirk of a smile appearing briefly. "Right... nothing."

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-04 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
Vyers knew perfectly well how much pride meant to a demon. Considering just how difficult it had been to regain his pride since that fateful moment in his castle, he could say he knew better than most. How much of that thought was his own pride was difficult to say.

In any case, no, it hadn't needed to be said.

Well... it might be needed. "Although I suppose there are a few people who might need to know," he mused,
overlords_wrath: (Oi!)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-04 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
The boy had almost settled till he heard that. His gaze snapped up to his father. "What?!" he snapped suddenly. What did he mean a few people might need to know? NO ONE needed to, at all.

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-04 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, just one or two," he replied lightly, "No more than that I should think." It was becoming difficult to hide his amusement.
overlords_wrath: (D2 Confident / Annoyed)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-04 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
"W-what?! NO! No one nee--" he started, sounding annoyed till he cut off, as he finally started to see himself the amusement in his Father's eyes. Dammit, he was in pain, and his Old Man was teasing him?!

Of course, in these last few minutes he had been rather nicely distracted from it.

"Tch! Idiot..." was his final feelings on the subject.

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-04 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
He couldn't help but laugh at the boy's reaction. Ah, but it had taken him awhile to catch on, hadn't it?

How far had they traveled, anyway? It was difficult to pick out landmarks when all you could see were blades of grass. He wasn't even entirely sure how long they had been traveling. Surely they had to be getting close. "You mentioned a rock before, did you not?"
overlords_wrath: (Poutypoutypout)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-04 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, yeah laugh it up, Old Man. Laharl didn't say anything, but he had a less than amused look on his face. Very near a scowl, or rather more so than he usually already had.

However, he blinked a moment and glanced around wondering himself where they were at. "Uh... yeah." he replied.

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-04 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
It took a little more walking, but soon he saw it in the distance. Or something that looked similar to it at least. It was difficult to tell. But it was better than nothing at this point.
overlords_wrath: (Laharl w/Pendant)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-04 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully it was the right way, but he'd let his Old Man figure it out. He was the one who thought Laharl had been going the wrong way, after all.

Other things were, at this point, entering his mind. After all that... everything Laharl had said, his father had come after him. He hadn't just given up for once? It had been surprising. Hell, it still was.

"...Oi."

He paused, remaining quite for a moment trying to find words. This wasn't an easy subject. Not when he wasn't yelling, anyways.

"...So... You... You followed me."

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-04 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it wasn't an easy subject. Vyers suddenly felt awkward all over again, keeping his gaze ahead of him as he pretended to look ahead.

"I did," he replied. He almost kept it at that, but, after a moment, he continued. "It, ah, seemed a better idea than sitting there this time." It was difficult to explain, but for a different reason this time. He honestly didn't know why he had. Or... he knew why but he couldn't put it into words. There had been hardly any thought in it. He had just gone. And it was a good thing he had, considering the circumstances Laharl had been in when he had arrived.

It was a start, he supposed. Or he hoped it was, at least. It was something.
overlords_wrath: (Look Away)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-05 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
That wasn't much of an answer. If Vyers had been even paying attention, there was certainly a bit of disappointment for a moment in Laharl's expression. Not that he really knew what he wanted to hear out of his Father anyways, but...

"Oh. Was that all..." he muttered, falling silent.
