A Very Special Episode [Completed]

Character(s): Urd, Vyers, Laharl
Content: Vyers and Laharl are manipulated by a certain goddess.
Setting: Outside Muspelheim Gate
Time: Evening, Week 7
Warnings: None.

It'd been a fairly busy week for Urd, really. Finding a new place and settling in, getting closer to Genie, dealing with Yorda and her boy. But this, this particular task was one she'd really been looking forward to. This had to do with demons, after all.

She sat on the outside of the roof of the domes of the city, unnoticed by those citizens milling so far below. After all, who would think to look up? Idly playing with a curling tendril of white hair tinged slightly lavender by the natural evening light, Urd watched the fields below carefully.

Both said they'd come...both, presumably, out of love. Or at the very least, some kind of attachment. Even demons from her world had, she supposed, some emotion to them outside of the usual greed and hatred and lust for power. How far would these two go, both so in denial of their own feelings? She didn't know but she was greatly looking forward to finding out.

Vyers quickly hopped backward once he made contact to put some space between himself and the cat, smirking as he noticed it had been pushed off-balance. That was, until the cat turned its attention toward him. Vyers glanced over at Laharl, checking to see if he was all right before attempting to leap out of the way of the charging feline.

Finally! Free at last, Laharl quickly scrambled to his feet and lept backwards, out of the way. Damn this cat was REALLY annoying! The Overlord had had it. Gathering energy again, he attempted to toss some of his explosive energy towards the charging feline.

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-02 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The speed at which the cat approached him was a little surprising. Not quite as surprising as the disappearing act it had pulled earlier, but still rather shocking nonetheless. He didn't have enough time to dodge completely, that much was obvious, but he still intended to get as much out of the way as possible. He crouched down, ready to jump when the cat was suddenly knocked away by Laharl's blast.

Vyers stared at it for a moment before straightening out, sure that the cat wasn't about to get up and come after them again for awhile. "Well... That was exciting."

"Exciting?" Laharl echoed, as soon as he'd caught his breath. Of all the words to use for what just happened, exciting wasn't what Laharl would chose. "More like annoying! What the hell was up with that cat?"

His gaze shifted to the unconcious form of the fallen cat, wondering just how long it would stay that way. Did they even want to stand here and wait to find out? Laharl didn't particularly.

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps it had been annoying for Laharl, but it had been awhile since he had been in a fight (on the winning side, no less!). It was actually quite invigorating (he had been on the winning side, of course!).

He shrugged. It was possible the cat wasn't native to the city. Quite the number of people filing into Paixao weren't originally from there. Who could say the same wasn't true for animals? "It certainly cannot be a normal one to be as quick as it was."
overlords_wrath: (I don't think so)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-03 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmph, no kidding," Laharl muttered, stepping up to it to poke it's side a few times. Happy it seemed down for the count for now, he stepped back and glanced around wondering which way was back to the domes.

"Well, I don't know about you, but I'm ready to get out of here before it wakes up," he then said. Hadn't that rock been in front of him when they shrunk? It seemed familiar. Right. So... Other way then.

Of course, Laharl had in fact chosen the complete wrong way, but was none-the-wiser as he started to walk in his chosen direction, pausing only to glance back at his Old Man, with an arched eyebrow. "Are you coming, or do you want to play cat and mouse again?"

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Vyers frowned. He would have thought he would have received at least some acknowledgment for his efforts. He had been the one to free Laharl, had he not? He followed, however, but only for a few steps, pausing and looking around.

Something seemed a little... off here. Was this the right way? He could have sworn he had been facing the other way when he had first been looking for the way back to the gates... Yes, yes he had. He was sure of it. "This is the wrong way."
overlords_wrath: (Is that right?)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-03 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Laharl stopped and turned, looking impatient. He wanted to just get back and figure out how to regain his missing height. "No it's not. I was facing that rock when we shrank, so the domes are this way," he replied, already looking annoyed.

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
"I am more than certain it's the other way. I distinctly remember facing that way when I was looking for the gate."
overlords_wrath: (Unimpressed)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-03 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Then go that way. It's not like I'm stopping you," Laharl said with a huff. He didn't particularly care if his Old Man followed or not. He'd probably just run off eventually anyways.

W-was he really being dismissed so easily?! "That is the wrong way!" he insisted again, annoyance bleeding through into his voice. "If you would just listen to me for once...!"
overlords_wrath: (Shock)

"Listen to you for once?" Now Vyers' truly had Laharl's attention, though not in the way he wanted.

"Listen to you for once?!" the young demon raged. "All you ever say ends with 'Well, I must be going now.'! When do you EVER have anything to ACTUALLY say?!"

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
"It does not!" he snapped. "Considering you fly into a rage or dismiss me before I even begin or have a chance to try, it is hardly a wonder finding the words is so difficult!" Of course, he did end up giving up after awhile, that he couldn't deny. ...Though he certainly would be doing his best to right now.
overlords_wrath: (I heard that!)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-03 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Because you don't try! Especially lately," Laharl snapped, anger growing and words just falling from his mouth now. "Hell, you've been practically avoiding me! If given the choice between dealing with me or avoiding me, you pick the later! Don't think I haven't noticed!"

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
"What do you think I've been trying to do when I was talking to you?! It isn't as easy as it seems!" The demon growled and grit his teeth. "If you would just tell me what you want from me, I might have an easier time of it!"
overlords_wrath: (No Way)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-03 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Tell you WHAT? I don't know! How the hell am I meant to know how a father should act?! You've been a DAMN lousy example!" the boy was shouting at his point, hands long since clenched into fists.

"You haven't changed a DAMN bit! You're NEVER around when I could even use you, and you're so DAMN annoying when you're around when I DON'T. Ever since moth--"

He clamped his mouth shut at that point. He'd been heading to a place he really didn't want to go. Laharl ended up growling in frustration, pacing a few steps and turning away, "You didn't even bother to tell me when you went off to get yourself killed!"

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
Vyers's fury continued to rise as Laharl yelled at him and he was ready to shout back with every sentence, but, by the end of the boy's rant, all the anger had left him. He looked away, letting out a long, slow sigh.

Since she had died. He knew that was what Laharl had been about ready to say. It hurt to think about it, and it hurt worse to admit it, but he knew after her death he hadn't been the best father. He hadn't been there when he should have been. He honestly wasn't sure where to begin repairing that rift, he never had been. It had always been easier to put it off and wait until he knew for certain, but that moment never came.

And then... then Baal had come, and, as far as he knew, he didn't have that luxury anymore. He looked up again, his voice quiet. "I tried to." It was the furthest he had ever gotten, and yet, even then... He still wasn't sure why he couldn't get the words out.
overlords_wrath: (Whaaaaat?)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2009-07-03 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
"You tried to?! Funny, I don't remember you telling me a thing!" Laharl snarled. His anger still hadn't quelled.

"You know what? Maybe you should just go back to being stupid old Mid-Boss," the boy suddenly said, stepping forward, glaring up at his Old Man, "Then you'll stop reminding me why the hell I always hated you so much!"

With that, the young Overlord whirled around, and took off, shoving his way through the grass forest. He didn't even care at this point which way he was even going. He just wanted to get away.

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Despite his best efforts, Vyers winced at Laharl's words and he almost seemed to shrink into himself. He had cut deep, so very deep, and the worst part of it all was the truth in his son's words. And yet... He just didn't understand. How did you tell your son you were going to die? It was no easy task, and hearing that he hated you--even knowing deep down that that had been the case all along--didn't make it easier for him. And... he had put it off again, decided it would be easier if Laharl didn't know. He'd failed to bridge the gap yet again.

The demon slowly sat down on the ground, his elbow resting on his knee and his forehead in his hand, slowly rubbing his temples as he tried to think and push past the heavy weight that had settled in the pit of his stomach.

The boy had stomped a good ways off before he finally slowed down, his anger starting to decrease leaving behind an uncomfortable clenching in his chest. Pain? Why was this hurting? It's not like he cared! He didn't need his stupid Old Man. He'd been fine without him all this time, why should it matter now?!

Dammit. Damn this all.

More than slightly distracted, Laharl had not detected the creature creeping up on him. Not till it was far closer than it should have been. Of course he didn't even realize what it was.

"Dammit, don't follow me--!" he started to yell, whipping around. Only it wasn't his Old Man following him. Nor was it the cat, for that matter. It was far larger than the cat, in fact. A white creature, with glowing eyes. What were they called? Lumen? This one was some kind of canine looking thing, and apparently it was interested in him.

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2009-07-03 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
He had sat there for awhile. His thoughts had been messy and jumbled when they made themselves known, but most of the time he had been left with unbearable silence. Nothing. No answers, not even hints. The woman from before had suggested he write what he wanted to say out before hand, but now that he was sitting there, looking through everything that had happened and trying to figure out where to go from here, it was quickly becoming obvious that he probably wouldn't have known where to start even then.

And yet the longer he sat there, the worse it made things, didn't it? Ah... he couldn't win.

But staying here seemed to be the worst option he had at the moment (especially since that cat was still lying somewhere nearby... he had nearly forgotten about that). Vyers rose to his feet, brushing himself off before heading in the direction Laharl had gone in.
overlords_wrath: (Oh shit!!!)

The lumen growled then leaped at him suddenly. Laharl tried to get out of the way, but at this size he couldn't out move the swift lumen. A paw caught him and he found himself knocked aside, colliding with a rock. With a groan, he moved to get up, but snap! The lumen snapped uncomfortably close. It missed, but it's spit didn't. A large drop his one of his legs. Burning pain was the last thing he'd expected, leaving him to cry out.

Memories of Flonne's pendant sprung to mind, but it wasn't the thing to be thinking of now. Forcing himself to move was hard, and he narrowly missed being chomped again. Stumbling he dodged a couple more times, but the pain down his leg was making this difficult.

Hitting the ground, Laharl groaned in frustration, trying to gather some power to his hand, but had to dodge another chomp, more saliva hitting his leg again. More burning pain. He groaned in pain, curling up.

Dammit. Dammit. How was he going to get out of this? He was pretty much waiting for the lumen's teeth to enclose around him this time.

While Vyers had taken his time walking to the area, still attempting to glean some sort of answer of what to do, the moment he had heard the sounds of a struggle, the demon had immediately picked up the pace. He had yet to see a Lumen for himself--though he thought he remembered a few people mentioning them once or twice--and the strange creature had made him pause for a second.

Then he had noticed Laharl curled up in the grass, and any curiosity about the creature was immediately pushed from his mind. He threw his arms in the air, gathering energy before pushing the Adonic Shot toward the Lumen, managing to knock it away and stun it long enough for him to get to Laharl's side.
