Soft and Sharp [Complete]
Character(s): Vash, Jayne Cobb, others?
Content: Vash stops by the weapons shop and finds that it's surprisingly cute.
Setting: Folios Weaponry
Time: Early afternoon?
Warnings: Jayne needs his mouth washed out with soap. D: There is a high possibility of talk about violence as well.
Vash had spent his first few days in Paixao just exploring the place. He found a few restaurants he had made a note of to return to, and more than a few sights that had left him in awe. He still couldn't claim that he appreciated being here, but in the meantime it wasn't that bad. Yet, he hadn't been able to forget what Sir Sword had said about the monsters that attacked the city. Vash hadn't yet seen anything that even looked dangerous, but it was better to be safe than sorry. So, when he had seen that there was a weapons shop on the map, he immediately left the Central Station in search of it.
It hadn't been hard to find at all, though he was rather surprised after he walked in. The store had plenty of things on display, from knives to guns to stranger weapons that he couldn't put a name to, like one that was a ball covered with spikes on a stick. In contrast to the deadly weapons, however, was an entire set of shelves full of plushies, including ones that looked like animals and little people with smiling stitched faces. One of the teddy bears set on the floor was about as tall as Vash was, and that was no easy feat.
His attention thoroughly distracted by the strange plushies, he wandered closer to the shelves, staring at one in particular shaped like a squashed pink teardrop with a face. What the heck was that supposed to be?

When he woke up, though, and stood up, his spine had popped something awful. His back still felt like hell, but there was nothing he could do about it. After checking the weird electronic device again to yell at River for spreading her crazy all over the network, he finally headed for his original destination.
When he entered the weapons shop, he was a little surprised. Weapons shop where he came from involved lots of guns and knives, and usually that was about it. This place had all manner of weapons he'd never even heard of. There were swords, too, which was something only rich people took classes for. He never cared much for them.
After examining some of the odder weapons, he finally took notice of the vast amount of... stuffed... creatures in the shop. "What the di yu..." He muttered, walking over to that section. What were stuffed toys doing in a weapon shop? He was confused.
He noticed another man was looking at the plushies as well. The guy was as tall as he was, but that ridiculous looking hair gave him a couple inches of advantage. It was blonde, too, which made him wonder if the guy was a resident of this crazy place. He didn't look like he belonged here though.
Returning his gaze to the plushies, he reached a hand up a poked at one, a yellow bird of some kind. "Kind of out of place aren't they?"
no subject
At being addressed, Vash looked over to the other man with a small smile. The scruffiness of the guy was almost refreshing, after the way most of the natives of this city were so fancy-looking. "I don't know. I think they brighten up the store a lot." Not that he sort of stopped to think about it, it was kind of disturbing to have kid's toys in a store full of weapons that kids shouldn't be exposed to. Huh. It was a good thing there weren't any in here right now.
no subject
Well maybe they were. The plushies certainly gave that impression. Hah. Clever.
"Place is weird enough with all these messed up weapons. Why would people need anything other than a gorram gun?" He didn't know. He needed a gun. That was why he was here, after all. He frowned a little as he recalled that fact. Fuck. He missed his Vera.
no subject
"And hey, don't ask me! I don't work here." Vash preferred guns too, obviously. Being reminded of it, he started to wander away from the plushie shelf, and towards where the guns were on display. Those, at least, he was a lot more familiar with. All he really needed was a box of bullets or two and then he'd be all done here. If he could find where they put the ammo, anyway.
no subject
His earlier assumption that the man wasn't from around here was proven even more so when he finally took notice of the fact that half of his hair was pitch black. So this guy dyed his hair too? 富人...
The man walked over to the guns, and Jayne was inclined to follow. It was what he was here for, after all. Looking at the selection, he frowned. Not a one of them were as good as his Vera. He was going to throttle whoever brought him here without his girl.
He also eyed the handguns with some thought. River had asked him to get her a gun, but he wasn't seriously considering giving her one. He'd buy an extra handgun, but giving it to the psycho girl wasn't an option. She was crazy enough with a knife. If she had had a gun that one time, he wouldn't be alive right now.
Maybe if they split up he'd let her have it. With any luck, she'd find Simon and accidentally shoot him.
There was nothing on display that really caught his eye, though. There wasn't even anything semi-automatic. It was a big disappointment, really. How was a man supposed to shoot another man all civil like with crap like this?
...Wait was that an AK-47? Those things were old! How did a place like this have such an antique?
"Not much selection." He grumbled, looking around for a shop-keep. The stupid guns were in a case. Who did that kind of thing?
no subject
"They seem to have a fair amount," he commented off-handedly. Thinking that they likely had the ammo stashed behind the counter or something, Vash turned and walked across the room to the counter in question. There were a few more of the plushies sitting here, but most importantly, a bell. He rang it a few times in quick succession, and was gratified to see someone emerge from a back room of the shop. "Hey. Could I get some .45 calibur bullets?" he asked of the shopkeeper, somewhat mildly.
no subject
He walked over to the counter, and after the shopkeep got the other guy the bullets he asked for, he decided to make his order. "I'd like the AK-47 and two of your Colt Single Action Armies. I'll need four 7.62 × 39 mm cartridges and a couple of boxes of what he got." He gestured to the other man. He was pretty sure the ones behind the glass were .45 caliber Colts, and if he was wrong he was going to feel awful foolish.
"我恨这个地方...." He grumbled, as the shopkeep took her sweet time getting the items. While he waited, he dug around his coat pockets for the branches he snapped off last night to pay the lady.
no subject
Vash wasn't in much of a hurry, so after stashing the two small boxes of bullets somewhere inside his coat, he stepped away from the counter to take a closer look at the knives. Maybe he should've asked for a sharpening stone for his own knives, but he didn't think he really needed one yet. It could keep. Of course, while he was looking around, he couldn't help but overhear what the other man was buying. That was quite a lot of firepower for a place like this, and Vash really couldn't help the odd look he cast at him.
He spoke up while the shopkeeper was bustling around, sounding rather curious, "What do you need all those guns for, anyway?"
no subject
"What's it to you, 陌生人?" He asked, glaring a little at the spike-headed man. He hadn't yet gotten a reason to start suspecting any of the people in the city of why he was here, but then again... You never knew.
The woman finally came back with all he asked for. He offered her two sizable twigs and a leaf. She insisted on more, though. He figured it would come down to this. Scowling he emptied his pockets on the table. She ended up taking his very, very shiny ID card (why would he need it here?) and his shiny charge card (it didn't have anything left on it anyway). He rolled his eyes and started pocketing his newly acquired ammunition.
Throwing the AK-47's strap around his shoulder, he shoved one of the Single Action Armies in his holster and the other he put somewhere inside of his coat. He had bought quite a bit of ammo, so it was a bit of a fit, but he didn't mind.
"Going to meet the 笨医生 little sister. Need all the ammo I can get." It was partially a joke.
If she was unarmed at least.
no subject
Somewhat bemused at hearing that statement, he turned to fully face him now, asking with raised eyebrows, "You need all that for meeting a woman?..." Oh, ouch. Now that was almost enough to make Vash feel sorry for the guy. He grinned a little as he said, "Good luck!"
no subject
No one would, right? She was insane. She was kind of cute when her mouth was shut, but Jayne had no real sexual interest in her. River fell into the same category as Kaylee when it came to women, except he didn't give a rats ass if he never saw River again. Crazy girl.
no subject
The description of the situation made him frown a little, though. "So... you need the guns for a crazy little girl? ... Right." That sounded even worse. Was this guy really going to go out and shoot some little girl? Crazy or not, Vash didn't like the thought of it. At all.
no subject
She was a real terror sometimes. He almost hoped Simon would show up so he wasn't stuck with babysitting duties anymore.
He looked at the other man, who clearly looked surprised by his words. Clearly he had no idea what Jayne was talking about. "Didn't come in here to buy weapons just to deal with her. Bought em' on general purpose. Lost my Vera, so I have to make up for her. And not just one of these 廉价 guns is going to make up for her. Even this isn't enough to equal her."
But then, in Jayne's mind, no weapon was really going to equal Vera.
no subject
He was easily settling into the conversation now. Vera? That had to be the name of a weapon, from the way the other man was talking. "That must've really been some gun if even a machine gun won't be making up for it," he pointed out, with a curious glance at the gun in question hanging from the man's shoulder. Where Vash was from, a machine gun really was one of the better options, and even that didn't give the sort of accuracy you could get out of a six-shooter.
no subject
He didn't want these crazy Paixao people stealing the hat his mama had knit him. "What're you packing?" He kind of liked where this conversation was going. Guns were something he liked quite a bit.
no subject
"Mine isn't anything nearly as special," Vash admitted with a small smile, drawing his gun fairly slowly before holding it lengthwise to show the other man. He was careful to show it off in such a way that it wasn't in danger of pointing at anyone. "It's a .45 LC." It didn't look much like any other Long Colt might, though, what with the inverted barrel and large size. It was heavy and looked like it could just about double as a small club, which in fact it had a time or two.
no subject
He looked at the gun appreciatively, clearly impressed by it's size and style. It looked like it packed quite a kick, and Jayne felt the desire to fire the thing. He didn't think the stranger would take too kindly to that though.
"She's a real shiny one." Almost worth stealing. But if this guy was packing this kind of heat, it was very likely he was good at using it. "So you're left handed?" He remarked, noting the lever for the forward frame on the right side of the gun.
no subject
Vash replaced the gun in its holster with a quick motion, the way he had flipped it from its position in his hand somehow not awkward at all. "I'm Vash," he then said with a smile, offering his gloved hand to the other man. It was past time for some sort of introduction, seeing as how they were still talking.
no subject
Jayne reached out and took Vash's hand with his own in a firm handshake. "Jayne." He supplied to the newly christened 朋友 (maybe not quite, but it was close enough for Jayne's tastes). After he let go of Vash's hand, he adjusted the strap on his shoulder, it having slid a bit during the shake.
He looked over at the wall to the clock there and gave it a mild scowl. He'd been here a little too long, and leaving River unattended for extended periods of time likely spelt trouble for anyone around them. Looking back at Vash, he grinned again. "I gotta go see that 海北女儿疯了牛, she'll likely start stabbin people without supervision, but if you like you can come with."
The other man seemed like a reasonable sort. Traveling in numbers in unknown places was always a good idea, right? Vash also didn't seem that bad to talk to
not to mention easy on the eyes.no subject
Dropping his hand back to his side, he hummed musingly. Vash was no longer concerned about the crazy girl, but going along would give him a good excuse to make sure nothing bad happened. Besides, Jayne was the first person Vash had met in this strange place that reminded him of home. Even if the reminder was of the more violent people that he usually ran into.
"Sure, why not?" he asked with a smile. "I could stand to get a better look around." Vash walked with him to the door of the place, looking forward to a closer glance at the scenery on this side of town than he had gotten on the way over. "Are we going anywhere in particular?"
