Falling Sky [active/open]

Character(s): Anyone and everyone
Content: The domes are falling!
Setting: Entirety of Paixao
Time: Week 42
Warnings: Probably violence and injury.
Note: This will be multi-thread style. Feel free to toss your characters wherever they may be!

There was a loud bang and suddenly the painted skies of Paixao began to crack. Angels and clouds separated from the mural they had once been apart of and began to fell to the earth, crushing anyone and anything they managed to land on.

They were the first, but they certainly weren't the last.

Streets of Vanaheim

At first, Priere thought it was just a simple earthquake... a powerful one, but just an earthquake, nothing to be worried about. And then... a piece of the false sky came down, crashing through the roof of a nearby house.

She had never been so glad and happy to be out of the apartment.

The streets of Vanaheim were suddenly filled with screaming people, running away in every directions, most of them with no clear goal except not getting hit by the debris. Priere however, immediately dashed towards the gate.

Or at least she would have... if the crowd wasn't in the way... and the debris too. A chunk of the roof loosened over her, letting down a rain of smaller rocks and debris over a large section of the street. She twirled her baton out, sending out baton doubles and wind over her head, destroying some of the pieces and pushing some more back.

For now at least.

"...No!"

She'd found nothing terribly suspicious in the ceiling. Not to her, anyways. She'd only checked a few spots, and she was SURE she hadn't done enough damage to cause this, but it was hard not to feel like what she'd done hadn't somehow played a part in this. It was too coincidental for what she had done, hadn't had something to do with this.

Still, HOW? How could it have caused this?

Twilight quickly shoved those thoughts aside best she could. There wasn't time to think about why right now. She had to do what she could to help people.

Running into the crowds, her horn shined brightly as she used her magic to stop a large chunk of falling ceiling, diverting it safely away.

"Wh... What...?"

Zidane just stared as dome began to shatter around him. Bad enough that he didn't know where Dagger was, but with this happening? He could only hope she was safe. ...Was it his brother's doing? He hadn't heard from Kuja lately either. Didn't even know if he was okay. Didn't even know if he was still in the city, but y'know, with stuff not blowing up, Zidane figured Kuja was keeping out of trouble and it was better if Zidane didn't try to involve himself with his brother (especially after the last time).

Zidane's seen Kuja make a mess of a place... but...

No. Now wasn't the time to think. He had to find Dagger, and he had to help anyone he could on the way. He flipped down from a balcony and rushed for the nearest cluster of natives.

"Don't just stand there, we gotta move! The whole thing looks like it might come down! Joutenheim Gate's the nearest, we need to get you all out of the city!"

"No!" A woman tore away from him, horrified. "We can't leave the city!"

"What? Come on! You can't stay here! Can't you see it isn't safe?" He stepped towards her again.

She screamed and scratched her hand across his face. He stumbled back, more out of shock than anything. He looked to the others in the group, but they were shuffling away from him more and more, and not towards the gates.

He shook himself out of his stupor, though it was too late for him to catch sight of the piece of falling dome. His eyes met those of a painted angel as he lunged for the group, trying to push them out of the way, but a corner of the dome knocked him back before he could reach anyone and he rolled away to the ground on his side.

He wished he could block the sound that followed out of his mind as he groaned and pushed himself up on his hands and stared, eyes widening in horror at the scene before him.

He... there couldn't have been any survivors from that...

Zidane just sat back, stricken, unable to move. He wanted to help get people out, and now he himself needed help to get moving again.

Why didn't... why didn't they just listen to him...

He'd had a bad feeling about today. Not that Laharl could put his finger on just WHY, exactly. His senses had felt so dull since he'd managed to seal his demon half; it was more than a little disconcerting for the young overlord. He was used to having extremely sharp senses, but now he felt almost blind sometimes.

Laharl didn't today need much in the way of senses, however, to notice the sudden rumble and hear the sound of what sounded like something crashing into the roof above them.

Then, before he'd barely began to process what was happening, the world around him began to fall apart.

Hades was properly giddy in all this. It's like the games in the coliseum, only better! He hadn't had this good of entertainment in awhile. It's actually kind of nice not being the keystone of destruction, because it means no one was harping on him, trying to stop him and keeping him from getting a real show.

So this was a pretty sweet change. Hades was, quite literally, situated atop City Hall in a slimy dark lounge chair, his journal on his lap and a conjured bucket of popcorn, still laughing it up. Keeping him sheltered from any falling dome is a fiery umbrella, burning up anything that might threaten to hit him.

It gives him plenty of time for other things.

Below, more fleeing people took a hit. "OH YEAH!" He pumped a fist, throwing popcorn over the side with his other hand. "Ten points! Woo!"

While Shantotto enjoyed a good dose of excitement, this was a little much, even for her. Her current residence had been rather crushed, you see; a falling arch from the ceiling destroying it. Given she'd been resting up since her, well, incident, she was rather peeved now.

The small mage did her part in destroying some of the larger pieces of falling debris. While everyone was fleeing for their lives, no one was paying attention to much else, but Shantotto was far more calm and observant. It was hard to not notice the figure atop of City Hall.

It didn't take but a few moments to cast a powerful Flare spell on the spectator.

Hey guys, it's everyone's favorite mayor! You know, the one who hasn't actually been playing a very active role in communicating with the Outsiders of the city. But come on now, men have their priorities. Politicians certainly do. And Praetoris'? It was getting out of the city as fast as Paixaoianly possible.

So if yor happen to see a flash of blonde bolt past you, it very well could have been Praetoris.

It's not like he could issue any city-wide messages when his journal (and quite possibly his office) was being flattened. He couldn't make any comment of the situation if he was dead. And boy, did he have words. This kind of terrible thing is exactly what he was talking about!

He's followed by an entourage of his staff that he managed to rustle out from under their desks at the first quakes, his and all their arms filled to the brim with paperwork. The closer he got to the gate, the more they start freezing up, and it got harder herding them on.

...if you do manage to stop Praetoris, don't expect him to be completely coherent. He's been lucky to keep his staff to hold it together. Sort of. He's not doing so good himself. His city is practically collapsing around him. Keeping running towards Niflheim was about the only thing that's keeping him from losing his cool. And possibly his lunch.

Gwen had been napping not-entirely-comfortably at the kitchen table, head pillowed by her folded arms. She wasn't like Laharl; she had no ill feelings about the day, or anything like that. It was simply another day in Paixao. Quiet, even. But it had been a nice quiet to her, not anything eerie, not anything that would signify this.

At the first sound she snapped out of her sleep, pulling a muscle in her neck from the swift motion. She looked around her, flustered, trying to place in her mind what exactly the sound was. It wasn't anything in the apartment, so outside, then?

She moved away from the table towards a window, rubbing a hand over her neck at the twinged muscle. She didn't make it to the window, however, drawing to a sharp halt at a new sound, followed immediately by the room shaking around her. She looked up, fear building deep in her stomach, at the ceiling beginning to crumble.

It would be less trouble to her body to jump out the window than stay in a collapsing apartment, but...

"LAHARL!"

While the Flare spell itself didn't do harm to Hades, being fire-based, the principle behind the attack was enough to make Hades yell in an angry fit, orange flame bursting out over his arms, up his shoulders, and topping his hair before settling back to blue. Not only had someone interrupted quality entertainment, they also knocked his popcorn off the rooftop.

Did they not have any manners?

Furious, he got to his feet, the lounge chair and umbrella puffing out of existence with smoke and darkness, and he threw out ripples of flame.

"WHAAAAAT?! WHO'S GOT THE NERVE?!"

It's not like Shantotto was easy to spot after all.

Colette had seen the falling piece of dome. She had her wings out and tried to fly towards it but was knocked away by the impact.

Thankfully, the Chosen was not badly hurt. After being stunned for a couple of seconds, she pushed herself up, coughing, and tried to peek through the dust. Oh, no.....were there people under there? How could anybody survive that?

Just then, Colette spotted a familiar figure in the distance. Having heigtened vision thanks to her angel transformation, it was a lot easier to make out how that figure was than it would have been before.

...Wait a minute, was that one of the people she served at the restaurant? Zidane, was it not? What was he doing sitting down there?! He could be hurt!

Colette spread her wings again and floated straight towards him. "Zidane? Is that you? We have to get out of here, fast!"

Heading towards Iriela

[personal profile] shout_geronimo 2012-07-23 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
The first thought the Doctor had was of the TARDIS. He'd left her parked near Iriela apartments, after having stayed near Yuna for so long - but Yuna was gone now, and there was no longer any reason to stay there. Well, his future wife seemed to like it and all, but really, neither of them were the sort to stay in one place for long. Then again, being brought here, of all places, had put a damper on things.

He had to move quickly, but that wasn't easy, what with the panicking crowds and falling debris. But he wouldn't give up; he couldn't just leave his TARDIS behind. So he ran, trying to be as little of an obstruction as possible.

Dazed, Zidane blinked towards the voice. It was muffled to his ear. His hearing was still off from the close proximity to the crashing fragment. He stared towards Colette before really seeing her, then blinked again and some of the clarity swarmed through.

"Hey... I know you," he said, slowly coming out of it. Wait a second - "You have wings?"

Because clearly that was important right at that moment, when the dome was coming down around them. What was he doing just sitting around?! He stared back at the fragment before him, trying to not think of the people killed that he couldn't save, and then his mind snapped back properly and he flailed at Colette.

"Wait, what are you doing out here?! It's dangerous!"

At the roof

Up at the apex of the dome, Urd hovered along with her angel. An aura of light surrounding them both, it took all the goddess' concentration to keep the dome from falling further...but it still wasn't enough. The cracks and crumbling rained huge chunks of ceiling and decoration onto the town below and there was nothing she could do to stop that. Sweating slightly, she gritted her teeth and pushed with her power. Times like these, she wished she could unseal her power. If Belldandy or Genie were here, they'd save the day in no time flat.

If they were here...

Squeezing her eyes shut, she cried out wordlessly as she was pummeled with chunks of plaster. It was up to everyone else to save those who needed saving. It was only a matter of time until Urd had to let the dome fall.

"I could ask you the same question; sitting there, watching this crisis like it's a show. That's more than a little suspicious, you know," a voice called back at him, from behind. She now was perched on the other end of the roof, arms folded confidently.

"Head down to the right, now!" In the panic, a deep, authoritarian voice cut through. Jade stood at a cross road, gesturing people to what he'd judged the safest route out of the city. Cutting through the alleyways would make short time, but he worried about the stampede of frightened townsfolk trampling each other. Before he could give that much more thought, a thunderous crack sounded above.

Immediately, Jade unleashed his spear from his arms in a pillar of green light. Then, raising the spear, he called out, "Thunder Lance!" Lightening appeared from nowhere, striking the chunk of debris and blowing it back into a nearby building he hoped was empty.

Flonne had been sticking close by Laharl since the "sealing incident," perhaps much to the overlord's annoyance. But Flonne was stubborn, as anyone who knew her could tell you, and she'd refused to leave him alone for very long.

So she was close by when the destruction began. "L-Laharl...?" She stared at the window, standing next to him, unsure what was going on. It was Gwen's sharp cry that snapped her out of it. A crack shook their apartment and she found herself moving.

He's only human now! Flonne shoved Laharl out of the way just as their ceiling gave way, the large cherub statue that had only moments before been affixed to the dome overhead crashing down on them, knocking Flonne out.
overlords_wrath: (Surprised)

[personal profile] overlords_wrath 2012-07-23 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mom?!" he called back, hearing her cry out, but he was torn, eyes turning to Flonne beside him.

Human or not, Laharl's thoughts were still on grabbing Flonne's arm and somehow trying to protect her, but he didn't have the chance. He found himself suddenly shoved forward, as something came crashing down. Horror struck him as he realized what she'd just done. "F-FLONNE!" he cried, but there was nothing he could do. He knelt there numbly, as more ceiling began to come down.

If not for the stupid seal... This couldn't be it. It just COULDN'T.

This house was coming down with all of them or none of them as far as anyone was concerned it seemed. Gwen's thoughts were the same as Flonne's; Laharl was human right now (Gwen, of course, paid no attention to the fact that she was also human). Her and the angel had to make sure that he was safe.

Gwen pulled a risky move of diving towards the kitchen cabinets first and grabbing for pots. Impromptu helmets right there. It wouldn't do much, but it would at least keep her head relatively safe while she made her way, desperately, for her son. "Laharl! Laharl!" She stumbled over to him, her mind blipping a moment and wondering where Krichevskoy was.

There! She was just about to him - just a little closer -

- and then bits of ceiling pushed her away, crumpling around her, pot-helmet tumbling from her. She was still visible, coughing, trying to pull herself free before she heaved a breath and settled, looking at Laharl with a pained face. Yes, she was still worrying more about him than herself.

Krichevskoy, this can't happen. It can't.

She reached out a hand towards Laharl, and used the energy she had to cast Shield on him before the hand dropped to the trembling floor.

As it happened, the half-wolf was running in the other direction as she passed him, and the Doctor... where was the Doctor going? All fours skidded to a stop and she turned, running to catch up to him. First it was the canine-form running alongside him, but then there was the woman as the illusion took over. A very panicked one at that.

"What are you doing? You're going the wrong way!"

Colette never felt completely uncomfortable about her wings. They made her feel like she stood out from everyone else. And she did in a way, being the Chosen of Mana. However, now was not the time to worry about that. Now was the time to try and get as many other people to safety as possible. Which was why she had not left the city yet.

"I'll manage," she said, not really concerned about her own wellbeing. "Quick - we have to get out of here before the whole city collapses!"

One moment his mother was coming towards him, then she was on the ground, pinned. For a moment, everything seemed to slow around him as she saw the look on her face; she looked in pain.

No.

No!

He cried out, reaching out desperately for her, but shield was cast around him then her hand hit the floor.

"NO! MOM!" he cried in anguish, as everything above them shift again, raining down more plaster and chunks, but he barely noticed. The people he cared for were about to die... die trying to protect HIM! This couldn't be REAL. It had to be a dream! It... it HAD to!

The sound of chunks hitting the magic shield and something wet from his face dripping down onto his hands was a quick reminder that, no, it was real and he was likely going to get crushed to death soon if he didn't get out of here before his mother's spell gave out...

Not that he could--not that he wanted to.

"F-Flonne... Mama..."

Clenching his fists, he realized there was only one option. There was only one way to save them.

Floor still shaking beneath him, he sat up on his knees and held out a hand, managing to summon forth the seal itself before him. That done, he began to concentrate, trying to gather what small trickle of power he had. The trickle was hardly note worthy, but it wasn't surprising it was there. It was an imperfect seal, after all. If it had been completely correct, there'd be nothing to find, but this one was more than a little flawed. It was a miserable speck, but now it was all he had.

Sweat formed on his scrunched up face, as Laharl stared at the seal. If there was a trickle of power coming through, there had to be a weak spot, or something, right? Summoning forth the little power he'd gathered, he fought against the seal trying to find that weak spot, bolts of energy crackling from the seal.

Break... dammit, BREAK already! More chunks of plaster were coming down and he felt something shift again beneath him. With a loud cry, he used everything left he had against the seal. There was a pulse of energy, then it shattered, vanishing from sight.

It took a moment, but then, oh how he felt it. Energy burst around him, swirling and pulsing, like a dam had broken. How good it felt! He wanted to cry out in joy! He wanted to LAUGH! But now was not the time. He could rejoice later. Laharl had other priorities. His plan was simple now: get his mother, get Flonne, then get them somewhere safe.

He went to his mother first, so frightened it was already too late, but it wasn't like he would leave her there, either way. He grasped the debris pinning her and easily hoisted it up with a single hand, other trying to stir her.

"M-mom? Mom!"

Gwen drifted out of consciousness for a few moments there, but she came blinking to as the weight lifted from her and Laharl was shaking her. She blinked, slowly, surprised. Her eyes only focused on one thing: his eyes... were red again. Had the seal...?

"Laharl..."

She faded out again, head lolling against the floorboards. Then she gave herself a shake of her own, trying to stay awake. She had to keep helping Laharl. Flonne, too.

"I-I'm alright," she said, pushing herself up. Her body was more than alright, but she would manage until they were all safely out of the house. She wanted to ask about the seal, but there were other priorities first. "We have to get Flonne and get out of here, Laharl."

Flonne groaned quietly, muffled by the sound of destruction outside and the creaking of the apartment building crumbling around them. Pushing the statue off her with a little grunt, she slowly sat up and rubbed her head. "Ooh...that was close...Laharl?" She paused, glancing around. This wasn't their apartment. Blinking, she looked up at the hole in the ceiling that she and the statue must have fallen through. Wincing, she jumped up and through the hole, landing carefully back in the room where Gwen and Laharl were. Gwen was clearly dazed and hurt, but Laharl seemed none the worse for wear. In fact...

...in fact, he was lifting up something several times too heavy for a human to lift. Did that mean the seal had somehow broken? A little dazed herself, she remained silent, one hand to her head.
