Election Day [Active]

Character(s): THE POPULATION OF PAIXAO AND THEN SOME?! ....lol. actually yes
Content: It's finally Election Day! ...jeez everyone's out and about.
Setting: I8, temp offices.
Time: Week 21, all day.
Warnings: ....none? o.o

OOC Notes: You do not have to reply to this post if you're 'voting' (unless you are lol doing a 'write-in'). But the AC is coming up, so it may help out :D Your character can only vote once. The mods Spish with no life will be voting multiple times to account for the natives. The actual results, however, are not viewable by the characters. It's really just for the amusement factor. If characters want to continue their campaigns outside the office, they can do that in this thread as well (please do <3). And, lastly! This log will operate "party-style" - multi-chaining. Who knows if it'll even come to that.

Elections
Choice for the new mayor of Paixao
Timon
The Master
Shantotto
Marcus Praetoris

It had been awhile since the city's natives were so active outside of their everyday bustle. The offices at I8 were frequented by the blondes, moving in and out of the doors to fill their votes, and then to return to their business.

Once inside, the voter had to either hand over their citizenship certificate for "verification" or fill out the application form for a certificate in order to vote. Then, they could move onto a line, where the voter was dealt with one at a time (not entirely the most effective process). An administrative assistant would hand out the ballot and allow the voter to step back into a private alcove, then take the ballot after they were done and drop it into their collection box, never leaving it unguarded.

The ballot has the names of those running with a box besides each, and the directions "Choose only one or ballot will become void." There is, also, a write-in section.

Throughout the entire day, Rosemary is hovering amongst the inside, keeping a watch over the proceedings.

Outside was at the reign of the runners making any last attempts to persuade the voters into choosing them. Of course, depending on how they may try to go about this... the natives may or may not perceive them any better than before.

However, Marcus Praetoris, the last-minute addition to the ballots, is not present.

The meerkat rolled his eyes. He had a feeling that would bring the demons questioning to a close. However, he was not about to complain. This would at least allow him to rest at ease from any unexpected questions. He had already been put on the spot once because of Vyers. Thankfully his sharp wit had been able to save him, not that there had ever been any doubt. According to him, no one in the city could outwit him.

He gave a soft hum in thought before he gestured for Vyers to lean down. “You think now would be a good time to bring up the fur brushing, gold, pearls, diamonds and other expensive jewellery?” Timon asked quietly.

Even after the rather promising display he had given, Timon was still Timon.

Vyers blinked confusedly at the sudden motion, but complied, having to kneel down in order to meet the meerkat's height. He wasn't entirely sure why Timon was suddenly deciding to be so quiet about whatever he had to say, but once the words were said, Vyers was infinitely grateful for the fact that he had chosen to say it how he did.

Attempting to keep at least half of the horror he felt off his face, Vyers murmured a quiet, half-dazed "No. No it would not."

What was that look supposed to mean? Timon drew back at the demons expression, unsure quite what to make of it at first. For some reason Vyers looked almost disturbed by his question. Why, however, was completely beyond him. As far as he was concerned it was a perfectly acceptable inquiry.

“It was a just a thought, yeesh! Now quit makin’ that face, your scaring the voters. Maybe it would have been better if you hadn’t come along…” The meerkat sighed and smiled nervously at those who passed. “Ah. Nothing to worry about here, folks. My assistant just has stomach cramps... Again.”

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2010-06-21 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Immediately, Vyers' expression soured. "That isn't true and you know it," he muttered under his breath with a sidelong glance in Timon's direction. He supposed he didn't much mind the "assistant" title, though. While not exactly what he wanted, it was better than what he usually got.

"Perhaps you should allow me to speak for awhile. My skills in speechmaking are unparalleled if I do say so myself," he suggested. And then, with the slightest hint of a sly smile on his face, he added, "After the wonderful performance you had before, it could not hurt, could it?"

“Well at this point who knows?” He mumbled back irritably, though proceeded to share a smile with citizens and wave as they walked by. “It sure comes up enough to be a real problem. Maybe I outta mention somethin’ about it to Urd.”

At the demons suggestion Timon was left with no choice but to turn and look at him again. “Now that’s an even worse idea! The last thing I need is for you to say something dumb and sway everyone’s vote to those other mooks. What would you have to say, anyway? And don’t say ‘you’ll have to wait and find out’. That’s not gonna change my mind on the matter.”

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Vyers crossed his arms with an indignant huff. "The reasons why you are the perfect choice for the job in a way that will easily capture the attention of all those who can hear. If I speak of what you have done for the city, that will surely bring others to your side, will it not? You have done the same yourself so far, but you lack the same flair for words that I have."

He leaned in a little closer, keeping his voice low. "Need I remind you that I am also more experienced in matters such as these?" It wasn't exactly the same situation, no, and he had never had to be voted for, but speeches he could do.

Timon looked far from convinced by the demons words. If anyone could find a way to screw something up, it was Vyers. What made Vyers think the meerkat would trust his speech when he didn’t even trust his breakfast? He shook his head and rolled his eyes. “The only ‘flair’ you have is the flair in your head. Everyone already knows I’m the best choice, regardless who says it. And don’t think that’s a point on your side of the jungle! You make it sound all neat n’ swell but I know your track record. The only way you’re sayin’ anything is if you buy me lunch - I pick the place.”

He stomach always was his weakness.

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2010-07-05 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Vyers scowled as Timon began to criticize him again, but immediately cheered when the meerkat agreed. As Vyers had always been the one to pay for their meals to begin with, it was a deal as good as an approval. The demon couldn't help but chuckle. "Very well. I agree to this deal. I am certain you will be pleasantly surprised. Now! Is there anything in particular you would like mentioned?" he asked, in part hoping to keep Timon's protests to a minimum.

Timon hoped Vyers was right. A pleasant surprise would have been nice for a change. It was always the sort of surprise of the 'horrifying' variety which awaited him. He gave a small sigh at the demons enthusiasm. So far it looked as though it could go either way. Maybe he could guide Vyers down the correct path by his choice of topic. There had to be something the demon actually possessed knowledge of. At least, he hoped there was. Otherwise this agreement would prove it self yet another horrible surprise.

"I vote something you actually know about, not think you know. I ain't gunna just sit by and stand for you makin' us both look bad. What you choose to do for your own reputation is up to you, just don't drag me into, especially now. Just make me sound as great as I truly am."

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2010-07-14 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
At this point, not even Timon's doubt could stamp out Vyers' good mood. He was in his element now, and prepared to give a speech that would easily drive even the emotionally-limited citizens of Paixao to tears. With as much flourish as one can have with such an action, Vyers stood up and moved to a spot in front of the polls where he would be most visible.

The demon cleared his throat and stood straight, the picture, he imagined, of unshakable confidence. "Dear people of Paixao, listen to what I have to say!" he began. His voice was loud, strong, and, as could be expected of the Dark Adonis, dramatic, and as he gave his speech, his words were accompanied by grand hand gestures. "You face a difficult decision today, perhaps even moreso than you realize. You have four equally respectable candidates to choose from, most--if not all--of them you have never seen in office. But! It is my belief that the best choice is more obvious than you would think. All you need do, dear citizens, is open your journals and look into posts made in the past. Providing others with information needed for everyday life in your fair city... Informational entries meant to protect others from harm... Efforts to search for people gone missing...! Has not Timon kept your interests at heart from the beginning? The proof lies before you to witness, an example of what he is capable of! Your other candidates, I am sorry to say, cannot make a similar boast. I bid you think hard and carefully, dear citizens. I am certain you will make the correct choice in the end."

A nod of the head and a small, satisfied smile, and Vyers returned to Timon's side, eagerly awaiting the meerkat's response.

To be honest, Timon expected to citizens to walk right past Vyers , even when he had moved in their way of reaching to polls. They were far from the violent type, at least to his knowledge, but if they were to push or knock anyone over it would have been Vyers. He sighed and placed a paw against his cheek. Whatever it was the demon had to say he hoped it would not be terrible, regardless of the confidence he shared. If anyone could mess something up… Well, it was Vyers.

He listened quietly to the demons speech. His energy was there and he certainly had the right enthusiasm. Although, Timon was unsure whether or not Vyers had been swatting at bugs or simply trying to be dramatic with such large hand gestures. His words, however, were what proved most important and, to Timon’s surprise, he spoke them well. The meerkat was far from applauding the performance but he did smile, notably looking relieved. Thankfully there was something Vyers could do right.

“Alright, that was pretty good.” He admitted once the demon joined him again. “Just don’t get too used to this speech thing. I’m the one running for mayor, remember?”

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Vyers looked more than happy with the response he had received. To get a compliment out of the meerkat at all, especially in regards to Vyers himself, was a significant accomplishment. Of course, Vyers had been expecting such an outcome. Had he not told Timon that his skills in speechmaking were unparalleled? Ah, if only he would have a little more faith!

He chuckled to himself before replying. "I simply wished to do what I could to help. And you must practice for when it will be you giving them, hm?" Although considering the subjects Timon seemed to gravitate to, Vyers couldn't help but feel a little bit nervous about that.
ext_1001662: (Eh?)

[identity profile] cowardly-hero.livejournal.com 2010-08-02 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Timon could tell he had fed the demons ego more than he had intended with his compliment. However, if he were to refrain, from comment there was no telling whether or not Vyers would speak for him again in the future. Not that the meerkat wanted to make it as though he needed Vyers, because he didn’t. No. But he did enjoy his support. To have others speak so highly of him did wonders for his image, he imagined.

“What do you mean ‘must practice’?” he asked. “There was nothing wrong with my speech. I think I did a wonderful job.”

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Vyers could only give Timon a flat, disbelieving look. "The speech itself was fine, but the execution was somewhat..." he rotated his hand, searching for the right word. Considering how easily the meerkat seemed to be offended, he was certain any criticism would have to be given delicately. "flawed, I suppose you could say. That, and your demands seem to occasionally end up a little out of control," he advised.

Flawed?” Perhaps that had not been the best choice of word on the demons part. Then again, Timon would have likely taken offence to anything Vyers said. “How so? And what demands? How are they out of control?” Vyers might have done a good job as far as his speech went but one successful speech did not make him the master of them. And even if he was, Timon took no interest in being his student.
