Election Day [Active]
Character(s): THE POPULATION OF PAIXAO AND THEN SOME?! ....lol. actually yes
Content: It's finally Election Day! ...jeez everyone's out and about.
Setting: I8, temp offices.
Time: Week 21, all day.
Warnings: ....none? o.o
OOC Notes: You do not have to reply to this post if you're 'voting' (unless you arelol doing a 'write-in'). But the AC is coming up, so it may help out :D Your character can only vote once. The mods Spish with no life will be voting multiple times to account for the natives. The actual results, however, are not viewable by the characters. It's really just for the amusement factor. If characters want to continue their campaigns outside the office, they can do that in this thread as well (please do <3). And, lastly! This log will operate "party-style" - multi-chaining. Who knows if it'll even come to that.
It had been awhile since the city's natives were so active outside of their everyday bustle. The offices at I8 were frequented by the blondes, moving in and out of the doors to fill their votes, and then to return to their business.
Once inside, the voter had to either hand over their citizenship certificate for "verification" or fill out the application form for a certificate in order to vote. Then, they could move onto a line, where the voter was dealt with one at a time (not entirely the most effective process). An administrative assistant would hand out the ballot and allow the voter to step back into a private alcove, then take the ballot after they were done and drop it into their collection box, never leaving it unguarded.
The ballot has the names of those running with a box besides each, and the directions "Choose only one or ballot will become void." There is, also, a write-in section.
Throughout the entire day, Rosemary is hovering amongst the inside, keeping a watch over the proceedings.
Outside was at the reign of the runners making any last attempts to persuade the voters into choosing them. Of course, depending on how they may try to go about this... the natives may or may not perceive them any better than before.
However, Marcus Praetoris, the last-minute addition to the ballots, is not present.

Outside was at the reign of the runners making any last attempts to persuade the voters into choosing them. Of course, depending on how they may try to go about this... the natives may or may not perceive them any better than before.
However, Marcus Praetoris, the last-minute addition to the ballots, is not present.

Simple enough, and if he ignored any attempts to change his mind, perhaps that was only to expected. The hopefuls could hardly expect everyone to give them the time of day. He would vote for no less than the person he had decided on already; namely the one option he thought would actually make a decent mayor. He hadn't had any orders not to, after all.

The meerkat firmly planted both paws onto his hips while he observed the busy office. As expect, Marcus Praetoris was nowhere to be found. He suspected the citizen of trying to avoid him, something few could blame him for. Had Rosemary the opportunity she surly would too. “Looks like Marco couldn’t make it.” He commented before turning to look at the demon behind him. Marcus appeared to take well after Oturo Heirwidthal when it came to making public appearances. “Actually, it looks like nobody made it.” Timon continued, shaking his head in disapproval. He was certainly not about to argue though. “Proves just how much they care. Somehow I’m not surprised.”
He continued to observe the area for another moment in silent thought before shaking a triumphant fist in the air. “Common, Vyers.” He called out, waving for the demon to join him as he marched into the crowd. “We got work to do!” Most of the citizens would not so much as share a second glance with him but he would change that.
“Never fear good citizens! Unlike my fellow candidates I have not forgotten about you!”

Meanwhile, he began to turn various speeches over in his head, trying to piece together something of his own. Something of enough power, of enough elegance to touch the hearts of those coming to vote.
"Mm... Perhaps you should begin by saying what you plan to change?" he suggested. "Make it a powerful statement. One that will pull their attention to you!" Timon already had the voice and the volume for it, so that wouldn't need any help.

“Citizens of Paixao, you are all in serious danger!” he shouted.
Suddenly finding far more eyes than he had ever expected on him, Timon realized that may have been a little too powerful a statement… Vyers had said to use something that would really get their attention though and that he had done well, too well. Surprised by the response he had received, he stood in place, struggling to think of what to say next. “In serious danger of casting the wrong vote, that is.” He quickly concluded in the few seconds it took for him to think of a suitable response. “I might not have been born a citizen of this city but I’ve been here long enough to know Paixao, its people -both citizens and visitors alike- and the problems they’ve faced, we’ve faced. I was there and now I want to be there for you. We shouldn’t have to live in fear anymore. I’m sick of it. We deserve better! We deserve safer streets and I plan to make it happen by introducing an actual defence force, something Oturo never had the chance to do or could do.”
Pausing, Timon turned to look back at Vyers, as though to check how he was doing.

A look that quickly transformed into an expression of horror as Timon began to talk. His eyes wide and mouth agape, Vyers stared at Timon a moment before whipping his head around to look at group after group of voters, absolutely mortified to notice the startled looks on their faces.
Immediately Vyers buried his face in his hands, not noticing at first that Timon's speech had begun to change. Once he did, however, he peered through his fingers cautiously, listening closely to what Timon was saying as he watched the citizens' expressions begin to change. Whether or not they were changing for the better he could not say (it was so hard to tell with the citizens of the city), but it was much better than before. Slowly, Vyers put his hands down. While he was far from relaxed about the situation, he was feeling better, and he gave a somewhat shaky smile to the meerkat to tell him to go on.

He turned to face the citizens again, just as unsure as Vyers when it came to their thoughts. True, he had been there longer but the citizens were just as difficult for him to read as they were for the demon. “Ah, where was I again?” The meerkat asked in attempt to find his place again. “Oh, right: a defence force. With your help I would also like to introduce an emergency contact post to get immediate assistance.” Timon paused to clear his throat before he continued. “In my time I’ve never seen the city take any action against any of the monsters, creeps, and complete losers I’ve ever seen crawlin’ around this place. No one even told me these guys were a threat! I had to find out for myself. That’s another improvement I plan to make to security. All threats and potential ones will be posted and updated regularly somewhere accessible to everyone.”
no subject
"Who would make up this defense force you mentioned?" Vyers asked, genuinely curious. "And how would you choose them?" He touched a finger just below his lips as he waited for an answer. "Ah, speaking as a visitor concerned for the welfare of this city, of course!"

"Why am I not allowed in?" he asked, keeping his other questions about the matter to himself. (What "comrade" was he talking about?!)

She gazes around for any other, and then, once she's satisfied, she focuses back to Timon.
"I wanted to wish you luck. And to give you something."
no subject
“Luck?” He repeated with a laugh. “I don’t need luck to win but thanks anyway. You know, I’m never one to refuse a gift though. What did you want to give me?”
He hoped it was something expensive.

The meerkat brought his paw up to his chin and rubbed it, as though to consider her offer. “Hmm,” he hummed before shaking his head. “I’ll have to get back to you about that. As far as the lessons themselves go though I’m still interested! Were there any particular dances we’d be learning? The Lambada, the Charleston, the Hula?”
no subject
"All right," she agreed, smiling. "I'm not sure. I don't know any of those. But I can teach some of the dances my Songstress dressphere taught me, things that can be used in concert and things my home uses."
no subject
“Perfect!” he replied. “Just say the word and I’ll be there! It’s been awhile since I last got to really move it, if you know what I mean. Now that you got me thinkin’ about it, all I really wanna do is dance – without the weird looks from him.” The meerkat gestured to Vyers who could be found a little distance away from them. “He gets even more into it than me, singing and all. And his voice is enough to shatter the windows.”

One vote for Timon. The recent addition of one Marcus Praetoris turned her stomach, but it was too late for any kind of last-minute repair. He'd swayed many people to his side, despite the obvious implication of discrimination or even harm to the visitors.
Sitting on the roof of the offices (and how she got up there without the use of her powers was anyone's guess), Urd sighed. They were really starting to stream in now. She could hear Timon's voice even from up here -- how such a little guy had the kind of pipes he did was anyone's guess. She briefly considered going in and playing the part of PR manager as she had been, but...he needed to do some things on his own. It would be good for him and his image, surely.
She just hoped he wouldn't make things worse.

Although he had planned to sit alone on the rooftops, having used his power to leap from ceiling to ceiling, he was still pleasantly surprised to see Urd finding respite on the roof.
"My last election was a landslide. Actually, every election I've ever been in has been a landslide," The Master said quietly, hoping not to scare her away. "This one...might be a little harder."

"It was stacked against us to begin with," she replied without turning around to face him, her gaze still on the blonde heads coursing in and out of the building below. She frowned with irritation. "I should have known better. Even if Praetoris hadn't joined the race, the city would never have let people like us have power. It's not how this place works."
Laughing a mirthless, dry laugh, she brought one knee up to her chest. "Or maybe they're all voting for one of us. Miracles can happen, right?"
no subject
The last remark had Master give off a small scoff and a frown. "I hate miracles," he said. "As much as I want to believe they don't work or even exist, they're there. They just happen to work against me, and I'm left with picking up the pieces. It's the Time Lords, or the Doctor, or the Doctor's companions making life difficult for me. As long as any one of them exists, I have to throw away plans that would work in any other scenario. That's where we are now. We're in a place where all of us are a community, linked by our collected failures." He stood to look over all the different visitors that seemed to recognize their own feeling of displacement.
"We're alien scum to them. Just like the humans," he said with conviction. "And the best they can do is pretend that they even want us in their ranks."
no subject
"Timon isn't stupid," she said softly, tilting her head and pausing to hear a few more words from the meerkat himself. "He's just the kind of guy who yells louder the less of a chance he has. He's a terrible meerkat that way." Lifting one shoulder in a small shrug, she finally turned her head to glance up at the Master. "Or maybe he really is in denial. I say, let him have his moment. He's been through enough."
She stood up, brushing the backs of her shorts off. "What we need to do now is plan for what happens with Praetoris at the wheel. I know you think you're invulnerable, but the natives are as much of the city as the buildings we sleep in. Things can turn bad for us, for all of us, if the new Mayor decides we visitors should be cleansed."

He admired Urd for her own candid nature. Perhaps it was time to tell her.
"You didn't already think about that?" he questioned as though she had insulted his mother. "That's why I ran in the first place," he said smiling and laughing a bit, "I never even wanted to win."
no subject
"Or are you just being you again?"

Admittedly, she didn't really think she would actually win, but she had managed to cause a bit of a stir. That was something at least. Still, it was a shame. None of the others were half as qualified as she was, really. Of course, no one wanted to believe that. And Shantotto hated to lose, even if she hadn't really expected to in the first place.
Oh well, it was rather out of her hands, wasn't it?
