Election Day [Active]

Character(s): THE POPULATION OF PAIXAO AND THEN SOME?! ....lol. actually yes
Content: It's finally Election Day! ...jeez everyone's out and about.
Setting: I8, temp offices.
Time: Week 21, all day.
Warnings: ....none? o.o

OOC Notes: You do not have to reply to this post if you're 'voting' (unless you are lol doing a 'write-in'). But the AC is coming up, so it may help out :D Your character can only vote once. The mods Spish with no life will be voting multiple times to account for the natives. The actual results, however, are not viewable by the characters. It's really just for the amusement factor. If characters want to continue their campaigns outside the office, they can do that in this thread as well (please do <3). And, lastly! This log will operate "party-style" - multi-chaining. Who knows if it'll even come to that.

Elections
Choice for the new mayor of Paixao
Timon
The Master
Shantotto
Marcus Praetoris

It had been awhile since the city's natives were so active outside of their everyday bustle. The offices at I8 were frequented by the blondes, moving in and out of the doors to fill their votes, and then to return to their business.

Once inside, the voter had to either hand over their citizenship certificate for "verification" or fill out the application form for a certificate in order to vote. Then, they could move onto a line, where the voter was dealt with one at a time (not entirely the most effective process). An administrative assistant would hand out the ballot and allow the voter to step back into a private alcove, then take the ballot after they were done and drop it into their collection box, never leaving it unguarded.

The ballot has the names of those running with a box besides each, and the directions "Choose only one or ballot will become void." There is, also, a write-in section.

Throughout the entire day, Rosemary is hovering amongst the inside, keeping a watch over the proceedings.

Outside was at the reign of the runners making any last attempts to persuade the voters into choosing them. Of course, depending on how they may try to go about this... the natives may or may not perceive them any better than before.

However, Marcus Praetoris, the last-minute addition to the ballots, is not present.

If this was how elections usually proceeded around here, Zexion couldn't say he approved. Last-minute additions to a campaign were fine (and he'd rather expected that one of the natives would speak up) but this attempt at swaying the voters at the last minute? Wholly deplorable. Democracy was meant to be a fair system, or as fair as things ever could be when politicians were involved. But if the city intended to cling to its faulty system he wouldn't complain. He was her to vote - or rather, 'Ian' was and as always he looked the part. Simple clothes, no cloak, and an illusion of mid-length brown hair pulled back into a ponytail to cover his own unique hair style.

Simple enough, and if he ignored any attempts to change his mind, perhaps that was only to expected. The hopefuls could hardly expect everyone to give them the time of day. He would vote for no less than the person he had decided on already; namely the one option he thought would actually make a decent mayor. He hadn't had any orders not to, after all.

Even before his arrival, there was a lot Timon had wondered about regarding the elections. He had never been to one before, the ‘leader types’ at home usually descendants of previous leaders or abusers of force to ‘earn’ such a position. Was it normal for those running to appear? He was doubtful that the other candidates would be making appearance after what the Master had told him, that including the infamous Marcus Praetoris who had seemingly appeared from nowhere, but as far as he was concerned it was their loss. This was the perfect opportunity to persuade voters and sway their vote. They were stupid for not taking advantage of that. They could have even debated live outside the temporary offices but for reasons everyone could have probably agreed on was that their noted absents was probably for the best, incredibly so for Timon.

The meerkat firmly planted both paws onto his hips while he observed the busy office. As expect, Marcus Praetoris was nowhere to be found. He suspected the citizen of trying to avoid him, something few could blame him for. Had Rosemary the opportunity she surly would too. “Looks like Marco couldn’t make it.” He commented before turning to look at the demon behind him. Marcus appeared to take well after Oturo Heirwidthal when it came to making public appearances. “Actually, it looks like nobody made it.” Timon continued, shaking his head in disapproval. He was certainly not about to argue though. “Proves just how much they care. Somehow I’m not surprised.”

He continued to observe the area for another moment in silent thought before shaking a triumphant fist in the air. “Common, Vyers.” He called out, waving for the demon to join him as he marched into the crowd. “We got work to do!” Most of the citizens would not so much as share a second glance with him but he would change that.

“Never fear good citizens! Unlike my fellow candidates I have not forgotten about you!”

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Vyers let out a heavy sigh, following after Timon and watching citizens and visitors alike file into the voting booths. While the meerkat did seem to be the best choice out of all the potential mayors, the demon had good reason to worry about Timon's public relations. Vyers had had the feeling that it would be better to follow Timon and make sure he didn't do anything to ruin his chances at a vote.

Meanwhile, he began to turn various speeches over in his head, trying to piece together something of his own. Something of enough power, of enough elegance to touch the hearts of those coming to vote.

"Mm... Perhaps you should begin by saying what you plan to change?" he suggested. "Make it a powerful statement. One that will pull their attention to you!" Timon already had the voice and the volume for it, so that wouldn't need any help.

[identity profile] cowardly-hero.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
He turned his attention back to Vyers and raised a brow at the demons suggestion. Hm, it looked as though Vyers was actually making himself useful for once. Timon shared a small grin with him, notably taken a liking to the idea. Whether or not anything the demon said would be actually helpful had yet to be decided but at least he was trying to be of some assistance. The meerkat rubbed his chin in thought while he reflected on the demon’s words. “Somethin’ that’ll pull their attention to me, hu?” he repeated. With a snap of his ‘fingers’ he jumped out of his serious state, a wide smile across his face. “That’s it, I got it!”

“Citizens of Paixao, you are all in serious danger!” he shouted.

Suddenly finding far more eyes than he had ever expected on him, Timon realized that may have been a little too powerful a statement… Vyers had said to use something that would really get their attention though and that he had done well, too well. Surprised by the response he had received, he stood in place, struggling to think of what to say next. “In serious danger of casting the wrong vote, that is.” He quickly concluded in the few seconds it took for him to think of a suitable response. “I might not have been born a citizen of this city but I’ve been here long enough to know Paixao, its people -both citizens and visitors alike- and the problems they’ve faced, we’ve faced. I was there and now I want to be there for you. We shouldn’t have to live in fear anymore. I’m sick of it. We deserve better! We deserve safer streets and I plan to make it happen by introducing an actual defence force, something Oturo never had the chance to do or could do.”

Pausing, Timon turned to look back at Vyers, as though to check how he was doing.

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, wonderful! Timon was actually going to follow his advice for once. It was a welcome change and Vyers couldn't help the proud, if not smug, look that appeared on his face.

A look that quickly transformed into an expression of horror as Timon began to talk. His eyes wide and mouth agape, Vyers stared at Timon a moment before whipping his head around to look at group after group of voters, absolutely mortified to notice the startled looks on their faces.

Immediately Vyers buried his face in his hands, not noticing at first that Timon's speech had begun to change. Once he did, however, he peered through his fingers cautiously, listening closely to what Timon was saying as he watched the citizens' expressions begin to change. Whether or not they were changing for the better he could not say (it was so hard to tell with the citizens of the city), but it was much better than before. Slowly, Vyers put his hands down. While he was far from relaxed about the situation, he was feeling better, and he gave a somewhat shaky smile to the meerkat to tell him to go on.
ext_1001662: (I Don't Think So)

[identity profile] cowardly-hero.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Timon could not figure out why the demon looked so nervous when he had shared a glance with him but that was probably for the best. The less he knew regarding his odds the more he could concentrate on his campaign promises. He assumed the smile was meant to assure him he was doing well and to continue, though he wished the demon had offered more. Another suggestion as to how he would ‘fix’ the city would have been nice, though Vyers appeared to have had enough trouble with a simple smile.

He turned to face the citizens again, just as unsure as Vyers when it came to their thoughts. True, he had been there longer but the citizens were just as difficult for him to read as they were for the demon. “Ah, where was I again?” The meerkat asked in attempt to find his place again. “Oh, right: a defence force. With your help I would also like to introduce an emergency contact post to get immediate assistance.” Timon paused to clear his throat before he continued. “In my time I’ve never seen the city take any action against any of the monsters, creeps, and complete losers I’ve ever seen crawlin’ around this place. No one even told me these guys were a threat! I had to find out for myself. That’s another improvement I plan to make to security. All threats and potential ones will be posted and updated regularly somewhere accessible to everyone.”

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Timon actually seemed to be doing fairly well so far. It was surprising. Pleasantly surprising, of course, but surprising nonetheless. While he knew Timon was somewhat capable, considering all of the information he had collected on the Organization, he... Well, to be blunt, he hadn't been expecting to hear so many good suggestions to change the city come from the meerkat in such a short amount of time.

"Who would make up this defense force you mentioned?" Vyers asked, genuinely curious. "And how would you choose them?" He touched a finger just below his lips as he waited for an answer. "Ah, speaking as a visitor concerned for the welfare of this city, of course!"
ext_1001662: (Big Blue-ish Black Thing)

[identity profile] cowardly-hero.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Surprised to hear Vyers interrupt him, he turned to look back him again in confusion. “Hu?” He had never said that demon couldn’t ask him questions regarding his campaign but he honestly hadn’t expected him to either. The meerkat frowned a little and scratched his head, thrown off by the inquiry. “Oh, uh… Well, really I couldn’t tell you – not because I don’t know or anything.” He chuckled nervously. “No! That’s definitely not it. It’s just that they’d prefer to, ah, keep their names disclosed at this point in time. A close comrade and I have personally chosen those who make up this force along with tested their skills and abilities. So, to answer your real question, no; you don’t have much of a chance of gettin’ in.”

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Or it could have been that Timon was making things up as he went along. Vyers suppressed the urge to bury his face in his palms once again, instead opting to put as much focus as possible into keeping his quickly rising feelings of annoyance off of his face. While he was able to meet with a fair amount of success in this endeavor, it was likely that the eye twitch he had suddenly adopted would give him away.

"Why am I not allowed in?" he asked, keeping his other questions about the matter to himself. (What "comrade" was he talking about?!)
ext_1001662: (Devious)

[identity profile] cowardly-hero.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well, this was unexpected. Timon, however, showed no trace of surprise. Instead he held his head up high and grinned as though it happened all the time. “Of course!” he replied proudly. “You thought I’d miss somethin’ as important as this? You’ve got me mistaken as one of the other candidates.” The meerkat shook his head at the thought before he watched her look around them, almost worriedly. He tilted his head curiously as she turned to look at him again.

“Luck?” He repeated with a laugh. “I don’t need luck to win but thanks anyway. You know, I’m never one to refuse a gift though. What did you want to give me?”

He hoped it was something expensive.

Well the thing about Timon was that at least he got everyone's attention when he wanted to. The cry cut Yuna off from going inside and she stopped, tilting her head at the little tiny meercat down by her feet. Kneeling down so she could see him better, she giggled a little. "Are you running?"
ext_1001662: (Well The Way I See It)

[identity profile] cowardly-hero.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
“Of course I am!” The meerkat replied in a matter-a-factly tone. He wasn’t quite sure what she found so funny when she knelt down to speak to him but decided his dashing good looks were responsible. A broad smile spread across his features at the idea. “You must have heard of me though. I think we even spoke over the journals. You were offering dance lessons, right?”
sumofallfayth: (standing straight and proud)

[personal profile] sumofallfayth 2010-06-09 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yuna definitely hadn't forgotten him. She was just amused that someone so small was running for mayor. But it didn't do to judge a chocobo by his feathers. "Yep!" she answered with a smile. "I might offer them soon. Maybe next week. Are you still interested? Maybe I'll be your mascot in return, if you get the position." And if not, maybe for next election.
ext_1001662: (I Don't Think So)

[identity profile] cowardly-hero.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
“Mascot?” Timon repeated in confusion. That confusion however quickly became suspicion. She wasn’t trying to get a little fame herself from his, was she? He looked at her sceptically. True, he did have the habit of using others but that did not mean he approved of those using him. There was no need for a mascot, especially when they already had a face as good looking as his.

The meerkat brought his paw up to his chin and rubbed it, as though to consider her offer. “Hmm,” he hummed before shaking his head. “I’ll have to get back to you about that. As far as the lessons themselves go though I’m still interested! Were there any particular dances we’d be learning? The Lambada, the Charleston, the Hula?”
sumofallfayth: (maybe flirting with you // head tilt)

[personal profile] sumofallfayth 2010-06-11 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Such a suspicious little thing! If he'd known her better, he would have jumped at the chance to get doormat Yuna to do anything he needed. It was a good thing she didn't know what he was thinking or she would have been a bit upset about it.

"All right," she agreed, smiling. "I'm not sure. I don't know any of those. But I can teach some of the dances my Songstress dressphere taught me, things that can be used in concert and things my home uses."
ext_1001662: (Assuring Smile)

[identity profile] cowardly-hero.livejournal.com 2010-06-14 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Concert, what was a concert? He continued to look up at her, head tilted to the side in confusion. Anything she used back home he doubted would be any use of him here but the idea of learning any new dance moves was more than enough to sell Timon on the idea. If it was not dancing alone he loved, it was showing off while he did so. The more he knew, the more he could impress others.

“Perfect!” he replied. “Just say the word and I’ll be there! It’s been awhile since I last got to really move it, if you know what I mean. Now that you got me thinkin’ about it, all I really wanna do is dance – without the weird looks from him.” The meerkat gestured to Vyers who could be found a little distance away from them. “He gets even more into it than me, singing and all. And his voice is enough to shatter the windows.”

Urd had come early to vote, wanting to avoid the crowds. Usually, she loved the hustle and bustle, considering large groups of people an audience just waiting to be entertained and stunned by her beauty, but in this form...well, she wasn't insecure. She just didn't feel like talking to people.

One vote for Timon. The recent addition of one Marcus Praetoris turned her stomach, but it was too late for any kind of last-minute repair. He'd swayed many people to his side, despite the obvious implication of discrimination or even harm to the visitors.

Sitting on the roof of the offices (and how she got up there without the use of her powers was anyone's guess), Urd sighed. They were really starting to stream in now. She could hear Timon's voice even from up here -- how such a little guy had the kind of pipes he did was anyone's guess. She briefly considered going in and playing the part of PR manager as she had been, but...he needed to do some things on his own. It would be good for him and his image, surely.

She just hoped he wouldn't make things worse.

[identity profile] mastertemplate.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that I'd really have to. That was The Master's reaction to Timon asking him whether or not he would show to the offices holding the election in Paixao. He was so sure of his victory in the election, or at least that's what he wished to display to others before the mysterious Marcus Praetoris had arrived on the scene. Now, the worry that had crossed his face was unsettling and it showed to everyone that was bothering to know him.

Although he had planned to sit alone on the rooftops, having used his power to leap from ceiling to ceiling, he was still pleasantly surprised to see Urd finding respite on the roof.

"My last election was a landslide. Actually, every election I've ever been in has been a landslide," The Master said quietly, hoping not to scare her away. "This one...might be a little harder."

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
She felt his presence before he spoke, subtle tension coiled in her despite the outward appearance of casual indifference. Urd didn't think he'd attack her, but the last thing she wanted to deal with was him remarking on her new appearance. But when he spoke, she relaxed slightly -- like her, he had more important things on his mind.

"It was stacked against us to begin with," she replied without turning around to face him, her gaze still on the blonde heads coursing in and out of the building below. She frowned with irritation. "I should have known better. Even if Praetoris hadn't joined the race, the city would never have let people like us have power. It's not how this place works."

Laughing a mirthless, dry laugh, she brought one knee up to her chest. "Or maybe they're all voting for one of us. Miracles can happen, right?"

[identity profile] mastertemplate.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Are you so sure? I've been known to change minds with quite a lot of ease before," The Master rebutted, knowing his pleas would fall on Urd's ears that had been deafened either by the sadness of the visitors' campaign or the loudness of Timon's own persistence in the streets. "Little guy hasn't gotten through his head yet, eh? I know how it can feel, dealing with denial. How do you manage?" he asked sincerely with hungry eyes.

The last remark had Master give off a small scoff and a frown. "I hate miracles," he said. "As much as I want to believe they don't work or even exist, they're there. They just happen to work against me, and I'm left with picking up the pieces. It's the Time Lords, or the Doctor, or the Doctor's companions making life difficult for me. As long as any one of them exists, I have to throw away plans that would work in any other scenario. That's where we are now. We're in a place where all of us are a community, linked by our collected failures." He stood to look over all the different visitors that seemed to recognize their own feeling of displacement.

"We're alien scum to them. Just like the humans," he said with conviction. "And the best they can do is pretend that they even want us in their ranks."

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Gee, don't try to cheer me up or anything," she said flatly. Despite this, a small, amused smirk curved her lips. Somehow, the Master's complete disregard for feelings and his blatant superiority complex was a comfort. In the mire of politics, at least she knew where stood. Generally.

"Timon isn't stupid," she said softly, tilting her head and pausing to hear a few more words from the meerkat himself. "He's just the kind of guy who yells louder the less of a chance he has. He's a terrible meerkat that way." Lifting one shoulder in a small shrug, she finally turned her head to glance up at the Master. "Or maybe he really is in denial. I say, let him have his moment. He's been through enough."

She stood up, brushing the backs of her shorts off. "What we need to do now is plan for what happens with Praetoris at the wheel. I know you think you're invulnerable, but the natives are as much of the city as the buildings we sleep in. Things can turn bad for us, for all of us, if the new Mayor decides we visitors should be cleansed."

[identity profile] mastertemplate.livejournal.com 2010-06-06 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"He's smart enough to speak out, so he's got that going for him. Rather, I meant the fact that this whole thing has been a fool's play. It's as though it won't even faze him," he sucked on his teeth in a candid display of observation. "I didn't know there were standards for meerkats. I don't think the Shadow Proclamation extends out here. Even if it did, it still wouldn't draw out that Praetoris prick."

He admired Urd for her own candid nature. Perhaps it was time to tell her.

"You didn't already think about that?" he questioned as though she had insulted his mother. "That's why I ran in the first place," he said smiling and laughing a bit, "I never even wanted to win."

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2010-06-08 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Urd looked anything but impressed. "That doesn't make any sense," she said flatly. "You ran because you didn't want to win? Or were you somehow able to predict Praetoris coming out from the shadows?" She shoved her hands into the pockets of her jacket, tilting her head upward to give him a shrewd, suspicious glare.

"Or are you just being you again?"
rhymeonadime: (Hmmmm......)

[personal profile] rhymeonadime 2010-06-14 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, it was in Shantotto's interest to go to the office to watch just how the vote would go.

Admittedly, she didn't really think she would actually win, but she had managed to cause a bit of a stir. That was something at least. Still, it was a shame. None of the others were half as qualified as she was, really. Of course, no one wanted to believe that. And Shantotto hated to lose, even if she hadn't really expected to in the first place.

Oh well, it was rather out of her hands, wasn't it?
