After Dan
Characters: Valerie, Misha, Danny
Content: The gang go to rest shortly after this
Setting: Café Ersesat
Time: Night
Warnings: None at present.
Nobody said a word for awhile. They simply held hands, walking back from the area where they had battled their nightmares. If anyone had turned their noses at the bedraggled group, the trio didn't see, couldn't see. It was a moment that, after all the fear and the fright, that should have been celebrated. No more Dan, no more scared Danny, and the hope that his sister was alive. In that sense, they'd won. They had every right to celebrate.
Some prices to pay for the end of nightmare, though, can be pretty high.
Valerie could see it in their eyes, and she didn't need a mirror to know it was in her own. Misha looked so pained that it hurt Valerie, but even she was struck dumb. She never knew she could feel so tired, didn't know that Danny could look so lost. The group was somber, and they didn't need to talk to each other to figure they'd stay that way for a little while.
They reached Cafe Ersesat and Valerie flung the keep a few glittering leaves. It didn't matter. The three tromped up to their room, and they all walked over to the bed and lay down a moment. They were silent for a long time. Valerie stirred, then looked at Danny.
"So...you're the ghost kid."

He liked the silence a great deal, because it allowed him to put off everything in his mind. He knew that he had to eventually open up and explain everything that had just transpired. He knew that he had to come clean about the ghost thing. He just hated to think about how he was going to do it.
As they walked quietly back to the hotel, he glanced over at Misha. He remembered the power he saw explode from her, and it seemed to have obliterated Dan from existance. He gave a weak smile at the thought of finally being free from Dan. No more looking over his shoulder, no more ducking, afraid for his life.
Another great thing that he'd seen, was that Jazz was here? Or so it said she was. They were pretty sure it was, and Danny tried hard to believe it, even though he dared not think of the possibility of it being a prank or something. That hurt to much.
Upon entering their room, and sitting on the bed, Danny became pensive for a moment and looked up as Valerie asked her question. The question he'd been expecting for a while. He studied her face and saw no form of malice in her words or expression.
He looked at her long and hard and then turned away slightly. "Yeah...I am."

Why'su? her heart cried. Why do such bad things happen'su? Tears welled in her amethyst eyes. Heaven'su will never forgive me'su... for hurting another person'su. Good angels should make people happy'su... make them not want to fight anymore'su. But I couldn't do that'su... I had to fight back'su, and I hurt someone'su...
Her large wings unfurled from her back (they'd completely healed and were downy white again) and she wrapped herself up in them, wishing she could just forget everything that had happened.
I want... I want to go back to Heaven'su... Even though she loved Earth, and loved humans, her heart had never hurt so much as it did now.

I should have done it, she thought to herself. She hadn't wanted Misha to do what she did. She should have been strong enough! It should have been her, even if it meant the blood was a little on her hands. She wasn't perfect, and she knew that, but Misha hadn't deserved this either. Dan had ruined her, even in his destruction. Damn him.
She looked up at Danny, wiping her eyes, still holding Misha. "I Don't care Danny! You know that. It's been a year and I didn't have anything but a faint hope you'd be OK. If Dan was you in the future, he's gone now. You're YOU now, and that's all that matters. He's gone and...and..."
She couldn't finish. Did she belong here? She did what she promised, even if she wasn't needed. All that was left was bringing Danny to Jazz...and then...if Misha went with them...or not...who knows? But they didn't need her now. Even if she was so pathetic that she couldn't bring Dan down herself, she could at least get Danny to Jazz, and make Misha feel better.

There was a small lump in his throat too, from seeing the girls break down like that. He knew that everything that had happened was all from his doing. If he was simply not in the picture, then none of this would have happened, and he wouldn't be sitting on this bed holding back the emotions that threatened to spill from him.
Valerie needed to cry. She never did it in front of him, or anyone he didn't think. He knew that she needed to get it out. Misha also needed to deal with what had just happened. Danny stayed quiet for their sake. Of the three, one needed to be the stone so the other two could have their moment.
There was another reason Danny had decided to stay quiet. It was the single fact that he was at the center of everything that had went wrong. He didn't care that Valerie had said SHE didn't care. That didn't change a damn thing.
He knew that no matter what happened, he was going to hurt others and leave a path of destruction in his tracks. It was a revelation that made him want to get ill right there, but this he also held back.

"Please'su," she whispered, "just don't fight'su, please'su."

But she expected this, right? She had promised to protect Danny from Dan, and even if she was so worthless that she couldn't even do that, at least Dan was gone. What happened next? She looked at Misha and felt pangs of guilt. This wasn't the price she wanted to pay: this shouldn't have even happened. She glanced at Danny and saw that there was something sad in his eyes too, something that spoke volumes to her. How stupid could she be? Between his parents and friends dying and Misha breaking down, he must he blaming himself most of all. How could she bother wallowing in self pity when Danny's must be the worse of all?
"We're done fighting, I hope. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't be here right now. You...you saved us Misha. I don't have the words to tell you how grateful I am-WE are." Valerie said. She turned to Danny. "This isn't your fault Danny. No one told us to come around you, and we didn't run away when Dan was gunning us. You're important to us, and we care about you. Personally, I couldn't stay in Amity park knowing you were out somewhere, alone and scared. I wanted to...I wanted to try and protect you, however badly that blew up in my face."
That was all he needed to know for now. It was the truth, even if it wasn't the complete truth. That would come another day.

Fighting came so naturally to him, he hardly thought about it anymore. After all this, he wondered if maybe he should.
He reluctantly tore his eyes from Misha to Valerie. He shifted on the bed some, bringing a knee up and resting his arm across it. After a moment he rested his chin on his arm. Valerie was still talking to him and she was calling him "Danny" again.
When she had called him 'Fenton' back on the battle front, it had stung. Harder than a lot of things in his life. Right then he swore that she either no longer wanted anything to do with him, or she was going to turn her guns on him after she was done with Dan.
She didn't, and this made him glad.
He offered her a smile.

And maybe that's why Misha, even though she felt bad about having to send him away like that, had no intention of ever restoring him like she had Shia-chan. At least that would have made her sister proud of her.
I wonder why... they haven't forgot him yet... she mused tiredly.
She took one of Valerie's hands in both of hers and closed her eyes again. She just wanted to sleep, sleep, sleep...

Luxord sighed, muttering under his breath as he exited the dark portal. By this point, he was simply sick of fetch duty, and he wouldn't be surprised if he had to pick up IX's slack as well. It certainly didn't seem like the other Nobody was doing too well on his own.
There was nothing to interest him in this room aside from the designated experimentation subject. He simply hauled the girl into the portal, allowing it to close behind him. At least he was done.
For now.
Once again, time resumed.

Valerie had barely had time to even stammer an exclamation when she found herself stepped out of where she was previously talking to Danny. Now she felt herself practically pulled apart from a fixed point in time and taken somewhere else. She turned her head to protest angrily until she saw the black coat.
It was the Organization. It dawned her fuzzy at first, and painfully bold. She could feel a tightness in her chest and her knees were shaking. She felt sick, but more than anything, she was just tired. All this time that she'd been running around Paixao, from fighting Larxene to facing Dan took a toll.
It isn't as if I didn't see this coming, she thought to herself, and hung her head. She would willingly go if it meant atoning just a little for not beating Dan herself. She got what she wanted, didn't she? Danny and Misha were safe, and Dan was gone. She even got to see Danny again! That had made it worth it. It wasn't anybodies fault that she couldn't tell him why she did it all, why it had mattered to her that she knew he was innocent. Sometimes...things didn't always go as planned.
Larxene had made her remember that. She was only guessing now that Larxene would get to remind her.

"I... I'm going back to my room'su," she said, sliding off of Danny's bed and heading across hallway to the one that she and Valerie were sharing.
