After Dan

Setting: Café Ersesat
Time: Night

Nobody said a word for awhile. They simply held hands, walking back from the area where they had battled their nightmares. If anyone had turned their noses at the bedraggled group, the trio didn't see, couldn't see. It was a moment that, after all the fear and the fright, that should have been celebrated. No more Dan, no more scared Danny, and the hope that his sister was alive. In that sense, they'd won. They had every right to celebrate.

Some prices to pay for the end of nightmare, though, can be pretty high.

Valerie could see it in their eyes, and she didn't need a mirror to know it was in her own. Misha looked so pained that it hurt Valerie, but even she was struck dumb. She never knew she could feel so tired, didn't know that Danny could look so lost. The group was somber, and they didn't need to talk to each other to figure they'd stay that way for a little while.

They reached Cafe Ersesat and Valerie flung the keep a few glittering leaves. It didn't matter. The three tromped up to their room, and they all walked over to the bed and lay down a moment. They were silent for a long time. Valerie stirred, then looked at Danny.

"So...you're the ghost kid."

Danny liked the silence.

He liked the silence a great deal, because it allowed him to put off everything in his mind. He knew that he had to eventually open up and explain everything that had just transpired. He knew that he had to come clean about the ghost thing. He just hated to think about how he was going to do it.

As they walked quietly back to the hotel, he glanced over at Misha. He remembered the power he saw explode from her, and it seemed to have obliterated Dan from existance. He gave a weak smile at the thought of finally being free from Dan. No more looking over his shoulder, no more ducking, afraid for his life.

Another great thing that he'd seen, was that Jazz was here? Or so it said she was. They were pretty sure it was, and Danny tried hard to believe it, even though he dared not think of the possibility of it being a prank or something. That hurt to much.

Upon entering their room, and sitting on the bed, Danny became pensive for a moment and looked up as Valerie asked her question. The question he'd been expecting for a while. He studied her face and saw no form of malice in her words or expression.

He looked at her long and hard and then turned away slightly. "Yeah...I am."
