On the Case! [Complete]

Character(s): Vyers, Urd, Timon, Xion...Simba? Namine? Whoever lives in this crazy commune that used to be Vyers' apartment?
Content: Vyers is hiding something and Urd can't take no for an answer.
Setting: The apartment Vyers shares with lots of people and animals.
Time: Week 20...daytime?
Warnings: None. CHAOS!

It was no surprise that Vyers was secretive. He apparently had a thing for being a man shrouded in mystery, though the cool factor seemed to constantly be decreased exponentially every time he failed, which...seemed to be a lot. He hid his relationship with his son, she was fairly certain he'd hidden the same fact from Laharl himself until recently and now, he was hiding something again. Honestly, the end result was less impressive and more exceedingly frustrating.

After a conversation with the demon over the network in which she'd said way more than she intended, Urd dashed out of the house she shared with Genie and Yorda and immediately flew up towards the domed ceiling. How dare he try to be all secretive with her, like she was another kid he could manipulate! Like he was her mothe -- well, it didn't matter. She was going to his place right now and forcing it out of him by any means possible!

...now, where did he live, exactly?

Urd stopped her ascent and scowled, looking over the tops of the buildings. Okay, so she hadn't thought this through. No problem. She reached up to her ear and snapped off one of the thin golden shafts on her hoop earring and held it out in her palm.

"Find me the one that I seek," she whispered, bowing her head and closing her eyes as she concentrated her power into the piece of metal. It rose above her hand, slowly spinning in place like the needle of a compass. It spun faster and faster until it was a golden whirl in the sunlight -- and then it abruptly stopped, pointing the way for a few seconds before darting off.

Smirking at her own ingenuity, Urd followed it, flying with more speed than she should but not really caring. For some reason, she couldn't help but feel time was of the essence.

The barely visible part of her earring lead her to an apartment complex. As she neared it, she didn't slow down, but held out her hand. The doors to the building flung open as if by a strong wind and the goddess sped on through, heedless of the shocked shrieks of the people she nearly collided with. Up the stairs, down the hall and...

"Vyers!" she shouted, slamming open the door while simultaneously catching the tiny gold rod out of the air in her fist. "Get your skinny butt out here!"

Ah, so she had figured it out. Though his statement, admittedly, left little question to it. There was a pause while he wondered whether or not to tell her everything, but he nodded to himself, deciding that it would be better to see if she could do anything about this. It would make things easier, wouldn't it?

"Not quite," he said. He was calm as he said it, though he sounded as though he was trying to distance himself from the explanation. "I... have been dead for two years. This was a temporary reincarnation. The Seraph made sure that I would be able to stay as long as I could, but... he is not here, and I have pushed this body past its limits. Even if it is fixed now, it will continue to occur."

The corners of his mouth twitched downward into a worried frown. While Vyers knew well that the act took great power, he had been hoping Urd might be able to emulate it if needed. That sort of reaction probably meant that even a temporary fix would be difficult, much less a permanent one.

He nodded as she asked to see into his memories. If that was what it took, then that was what it took. If anything, he had to know.

...Well, this was awkward. He hadn't quite expected this sort of thing to be the process by which his memory would be read. Did she have to be so close? Was there not some other way this could be done? His eyes flicked from wall to wall as he tried to avoid hers.

They immediately snapped back to Urd's face as she drew in a gasp and backed away. Vyers' brow furrowed slightly as he noticed the tears in her eyes. Perhaps he should have prepared her a little more for what she had been about to see...

He got to his feet and walked to the window, staring outside with his back to Urd, a sudden solemnity coming over his bearing. "It was what had to be done. Such are the sacrifices that come with being an Overlord."

What was his decision? What did he want? That really was the question, wasn't it? Vyers stared at his reflection in the glass, hoping that he might suddenly divine an answer from it. It was a foolish idea, he knew, to ask one who knew as much--and as little--as he did at that moment, and turned his gaze down to the windowsill in an attempt to escape his own questioning gaze, absently tracing the wood grain with his fingertips.

The demon's forehead rested gently against the cool glass, his eyes closed. "Would such a thing even be possible?" he asked, and there was the barest hint of hope in his voice. "Are you sure you would be able to do this?"

Any hope that might have remained in Vyers' eyes was immediately replaced with something resembling horror as he whipped around to face Urd. "No! No, no, no," he said immediately. "Is there not--?" The look in her eyes told him that there wasn't. But would they even? Would either of them? Laharl, he knew, would be angry. He expected it. Anger was probably even an understatement.

Timon, then... Timon was more difficult to tell. The meerkat was so selfish, and yet there was how defensively he had reacted not long before. Would he even agree?

Even if he did have to tell them eventually, he wasn't looking forward to this. Briefly he considered trying someone else and seeing if they would have a simpler way, or at the very least a way that wouldn't require either of those two, but he reluctantly nodded. "Very well."

Vyers was struck into an astonished silence at her statement, and he could only watch as she left, his mouth almost comically agape. How could she say that so calmly?! How could she say it as though it were something so simple?! "Wh-Wh-Where are you going?!" he cried after her as he came to his senses, clutching the windowsill hard enough for the wood to crack and splinter. "I-I can't...! How do you expect me to...?! You cannot just leave like that!"

But in the end he knew it wasn't going to help, and, almost as though he were afraid of being caught by someone looking outside into the window, he jerked away and pressed himself flat against the wall, staring straight ahead like a deer caught in the headlights.

Timon pressed his head against the demons bedroom door, curious to see if he could pick up anything of the conversation being held between the two inside the room. However, as far as he could tell, there was nothing but silence. He frowned and turned his head to use his other ear in belief that his right one had deceived him. The result though remained the same. Hu. What did that mean? The meerkat pulled himself away from the door, hesitant for a moment before he knocked on it.

“Oi, Vyers. You still alive in there?” he called out.

Vyers seemed to come out of the wide-eyed trance he had been in at Timon's voice, though he looked considerably less than enthused, the irony of the meerkat's words not lost on him. "Y-Yes," he replied after a moment, and he had to wonder whether or not that counted as a lie.

He walked over to the door, hand resting on the knob as he tried to decide whether or not he should say anything, but the door was soon open, Vyers deciding that he would see what Timon wanted first.

He wasn’t exactly sure what to expect when Vyers opened the door. Actually, part of him hadn’t expected the demon to open the door at all but when he did Timon found himself greeted by a rather troubled looking face. “Geez, what did she do to you?” he asked. “You look even worse than you did before! And here I thought she was here to help you.” Pausing for a moment, the meerkat glanced around the room in search of the goddess in question. “Uh, hey. Speaking of which, where did she go? Didn’t she come in…?” He quickly found the answer to his question when he laid eyes on the open window. “Oh. At least that leaves the door in one piece.”

Scratching the back of his head, Timon glanced outside of the room for a moment to look back at the Nobodies waiting for him. “Anyway, I need some money. With Urd here, or at least was here, I was gonna take the kids out for ice cream. She’s, uh, not coming back, is she?”

Well, he had an opening to begin conversation, but... Would it be wise to take it? Was he ready to say this just yet? No, no, he needed a little more time. And Timon was getting ready to take the kids for ice cream. He couldn't mention something like this right now. He couldn't have that hanging over their heads when they were supposed to be happy.

"We just... talked for a moment," he replied. "I believe it will be some time before she returns." Vyers walked over to one of the end tables, searching the drawers for something Timon could use as money. He pulled out some leaves and handed them over. "Here," he said quietly.

“Uh hu…” Timon was incredibly doubtful of Vyers and how could he not be? The look on the demons face gave away a lot more than he probably realized. Not only that but for him to have given him money just like that? It was never that easy. Usually there was some sort of argument involved first before he got what he wanted. Something wasn’t right here. The meerkat eyed Vyers suspiciously. There was definitely a lot more going on then the demon clearly wanted to admit. However, he was not about to pry. Instead he simply accepted the money and prepared to go on his way. There was no point in fighting with Vyers now, he could question him later when he was feeling better.

“I’ll let you know when we’re back.” He said before turning to leave. “Simba is still home. Wake him there are any problems.”

Vyers let out a soft sigh of relief as it turned out Timon wasn't going to ask any more questions. That would make things less awkward, if only slightly. Very slightly. But it would give him time to think and come up with something and in any case there was still one person who needed to know much more than Timon did.

He nodded with a short affirmative noise, going to sit back down on the bed. He didn't think there would be anymore problems for the time being, but he would be sure to keep an eye on everything. "I hope you all have a good time," he said with the smallest of smiles.
