Rain and Lightning and Sin [active; open]

Character(s): Sin and anyone who wants in on the fight
Content: Boss fight! In the rain!
Setting: L7
Time: early evening, while it's still raining
Warnings: Destruction, mayhem, and violence. And a hole in the domes.

In the past few weeks, the city had proven itself up to the task of eliminating the lesser Sinspawn, but it was time to show them the real power of Sin. It was time to start bringing death to this world and those who inhabited it. Whether they belonged here was of no importance. They suffered here just as they would suffer wherever they had come from; where they were released from their suffering was of no real importance. All he needed to do was attract a bit of attention.

Which Sin itself was admittedly doing, by virtue of being a large electricity based creature, but the rumbling of thunder above the domes had given him an idea. After all, Sin was providing a far amount of destruction already, and surely no one would mind if he caused just a little bit more. And it was a matter of little effort to cast a simple Flare at the dome overhead, shattering a fair amount of it to pieces. With luck the explosion would serve as a way to get people to head this direction and in the meantime Sin could terrorize and kill the general populace.

[Note: Since giant boss fight is likely to be giant, it'll probably be best to split this up into a bunch of different threads. Thread hopping is, of course, not only okay but encouraged, so hop in and have fun!]

"I finally made it!"

One lone voice came ringing out into the symphonic chaos, against the sound of the raining debris from the monstrous creature's firey spell. The voice was angry, determined, and seemed to call challenge the behemoth all on its own.

But where it did come from...?

All around, nothing but buildings and the wreckage of what were buildings as well. Smashed streets, littered with shattered stone and the splintered remains of the psuedo-plant life that had been used to decorate the eerily 'normal' landscape of Paixao. There was no sign of anyone, certainly no one large enough to challenge the awesome power of the creature now terrorizing the city.

"Now I'm gonna kick your ass, you giant fucking bastard!"

There it was again, that same tiny voice, like a bell being proudly knelled inthe midst of battle. Sin probably didn't even notice it, though, in which case, this would be Sin's mistake. It would have no one to blame but itself for what came next.

A rumbling sounded, an addition to the already panicked scene in which everything in Sin's path was being brought down to rubble. Suddenly, there came a dull whooshing sound, the same sort of sound as a solid object being thrown, with the wind whistling behind it.

It wasn't a rock. It wasn't a pile of rocks.

It was an entire building, and now, it was sailing straight towards Sin's left side.

Monkey D. Luffy stood at its source, snarling angrily at its target. Even then, this wasn't enough; the fury-driven pirate came running forward aafter it, his arms thrusting and his legs pumping madly. There was a great deal of distance to close between them, but once he was in range, Luffy was going to demonstrate that hurling Paixao's city-scape was the least of what he could do!

Ivan had seen a lot of strange things since he'd been in Paixao. Demon overlords, sudden disappearances, magic carpets, people who didn't exist... not to mention Sin itself. After a while, you started to build up a certain tolerance to it - except that instead of becoming normal, the strangeness of the city had, at some nebulous point, become simply terrifying.

In spite of that (it wasn't as if he'd never been scared witless before), he'd finally stopped hiding outside the radius of destruction and rushed in headlong to try and do something about it. True, he didn't know where his friends were, but they'd said they would be along, and he trusted them. Actually, who was to say they weren't already there ahead of him?

The closer he got, though, his stomach knotted uncomfortably. They weren't. They weren't there yet. Sin was still standing unopposed -

Except for the flying building.

That was a new one, and the sight of it stopped Ivan in his tracks. For a second he thought Sin had just knocked it over, but no, it was flying. And towards it. As if somebody had casually picked it up and thrown it at the monster.

A second later, from the same direction, he caught sight of - what had to be someone, although moving fast enough that he couldn't make out who. But it was someone, trying to take Sin on by themselves.

That was what Ivan saw, although for now he failed to put two and two together. Alarmed, he dashed forward, but stopped a second later as if thinking better of it - "H-hey! Wait! Don't!" he shouted at the lone fighter's fast-advancing back, although at this distance (and that speed, and over the sound of the building itself) he had no idea whether the guy would actually hear him.

Sticking in the shadows, you happened to hear a lot of gossip about things that were happening around the city. Hamel had heard more than enough about strange monsters and attacks on innocents-- tch, even in another world there was always something threatening the people. And here he thought he was gonna get a nice vacation for as long as he was here.

It wasn't difficult to find the gigantic monster, not at all. It looked like a dark shadow in the distance, through the misty clouds of rain (how did it rain inside, anyway? This placed was stupid). Hamel stood underneath a large gazebo in what looked like a little square not far from the monster's looming shadow. That would keep him out of the rain long enough to do something.

First, he set out a handwritten sign that read "WANTED: HERO- INQUIRE WITHIN". He hoisted the violin over his shoulder and put the bow to it, beginning to play J.S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsCFHBYp-eA&feature=related) This was a melody to pump up a warrior as he or she plunged into the dark forces of the world to battle them. That monster was probably too big for the music to work on him- he needed to find a proper marionette. A strong one.

ooc: So basically, Hamel's music works like magical steroids for the one he targets. If you volunteer to team up with him, he'll have your character flying through the air and hitting a hundred times harder than they normally would.

Luffy, bull-headed as ever, kept right on charging forward, his face contorted wildly with gritted teeth and narrowed eyes to give shape to the boundless spirit and boiling temper that usually lay dormant beneath his child-like smile. It didn't matter how much damage the building had done when it slammed into Sin; Luffy had simply used it as an opening salvo. A solid punch from the rubber-man made an impact like that look paltry.

He was certainly expecting retaliation, but he wasn't sure how until a streaming wave of energy came punching through the thick cover of dust. Luffy was able to recognize it, though: this was the same sort of attack as Enel, and more recently, Larxene. It wouldn't affect him at all, and he knew it! This thought drove Luffy to run forward even faster, clentching his fists just a little harder to give him that extra push.

Then Ivan's cry caught his ear. Luffy blinked sharply as he caught a glimpse of him as he peered back over his shoulder. He looked forward again, seeing the lightning coming towards him. Then suddenly, he threw on his brakes, and hard, turning on a dime towards Ivan.

"Hold on to me!" Luffy shouted ahead, running as hard as his muscled legs would carry him. Sharply, he literally threw his own arms forward, causing them to stretch out. As his hands reached Ivan, he took a firm hold, just in time as his arms grew taut and came flying back towards the rest of him.

The blast from Sin hit the ground, causing the very ground beneath them to erupt in a thick, sharp shower of earth. Luffy leapt into the air swiftly, carrying Ivan with him, with enough power behind him to carry them away from the blast radius and on top of a felled building, now laying at an angle against the ground.

Luffy, panting, looked positively panicked. "Naa-AH, that was close..." he gasped, his tongue hanging out. "You've got to get away from here! That stupid thing is gonna keep on shooting until the whole place is one big pile of junk!"

Sonic's first thought upon seeing the monster (from quite a distance, too) had been man, that thing's huge! Sure, he'd seen robots bigger'n that before, but those had been robots. Normally living - at least he was pretty sure that thing was living - creatures didn't come quite that big. The monster being in the middle of the city probably meant bad news, too.

He'd changed direction, heading towards the thing at not-quite-top speed (Knuckles had to keep up, after all), and had almost reached it when a sign caught his eye. Hero wanted, huh?

He skidded to a stop and doubled back, looking first at the sign and then at the guy with the instrument. There was something about that music...

"Lookin' for heroes, huh?" he grinned up at the instrument guy. "No worries - we're here."

[identity profile] knuckle-headed.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
Knuckles had almost stopped short in sheer amazement at the size of that... thing within the city. What was that creature? It definitely didn't look like a robot, that was for sure - and no living being on Mobius could have reached that size.

Then again, they very clearly weren't on Mobius anymore. The echidna grit his teeth and ran faster to keep up with Sonic - even when his friend was going slowly (for him, anyway), it was still a challenge to keep up. He nearly stumbled when Sonic stopped, his gaze darting to the sign that seemed to have caught Sonic's eye.

Hero? Well, if anybody could pull that off, it was him and Sonic. He let the hedgehog do the talking for the moment, offering a nod by way of greeting to the man who had, apparently, put the sign up.

Two hits. Two... strange, colored furry little animal hits. This place just got weirder and weirder, but they certainly weren't demons. In any case, they could probably fight physically better than Hamel could (at least, better than Hamel could without relying on... emergency strength). There was no way he could effect the monster otherwise.

"You gentlemen are interested in the big ugly, aren't you?" Hamel asked. "Well I've got a proposition for you. One person can't take that thing out- it'll take cooperation. So here's the idea- with me and my magic music and you and your... blue and red furry little animal power, we can't go wrong. Then we can split the reward. Whaddya say?"

There'd been more than just a few distractions on the way, but finally Laharl had arrived to check out the monster everyone had been talking about.

He had to admit, he was pretty impressed. It was pretty big, and destroying a hell of a lot of the city. After dealing with that idiot, this was going to be enjoyable. Ha, too bad Etna had to go and disappear, she might have enjoyed this too. Oh well, this was a good time to finally show off, but first...

Laharl turned a moment to Flonne. "Stay back and keep out of trouble, Flonne," he ordered her, sternly. He didn't want anything else to happen to her. He moved to leave but then paused, glancing back again, his expression slightly softer, "But... yell if you need me, right?"

That said, Laharl took off, leaping to the lower roof of a building then an even higher roof, till he found the upperest perch he could, but still making sure to keep within Flonne's magic's reach.

He didn't waste any time. Raising his arms above his head, he let the floodgate go, his dark power forming above him and splitting into a multitude of fiery orbs above him. A wicked grin formed on Laharl's lips. It felt good to let out this much power. "Oi! Monster!" he yelled, astoundingly loud for one so small.

"OVERLORD'S WRATH!" he cried out, as he motioned with his arms to send the floating orbs all on a convening destination of the creature. Even if the explosive attack didn't hit, he figured he'd have it's full attention now.

Ivan instinctively raised his arms in front of him as the building impacted the monster's side and erupted into a cloud of mortar and debris, even if it was still far enough away that he had little to worry about from it. It made it hard, when he looked again, to tell whether it had done anything, but -

The prickling sensation in his skin warned him it hadn't.

That was when he heard Luffy again. His attention had switched so fully to the monster that he'd completely lost track of him, but that was impossible anymore, because by the time he looked back, the guy had already grabbed hold of him - while most of him still appeared well out of reach, no less - and yanked him clean off his feet.

There was a bright flash of light, the massive CRACK of nearby thunder, an upheaval of pavement below and behind them - and it was only when Ivan could hear himself again that he realized his latest breath had actually been a scream.

... Well, it still was, for another second or two. Although, perhaps to his credit, he managed to shut his mouth by the time they landed - not crashed, that was important. Soon his feet were back on solid ground (if a diagonal building could be called either solid or ground), and he could catch his breath again.

He was still in the middle of regaining his composure when Luffy told him, in so many words, what Ivan had been trying to tell him. "I - I know that," he blurted out. "I came here to help stop it."

Deep in the dark shadows of a building, a dark figure stood watching the fight above with great interest. It was rather convenient that such a large battle was taking place. One couldn't really ask for a better distraction. Plans could be put into motion with few even realizing.

It was a wonderful opportunity that was too good to pass up. However, decisions would have to be made quickly.

Sensing another nearby, the dark figure turned, glancing to them in the barest of greetings. "Convenient, isn't it?"

[identity profile] masterfulflames.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
The other was a bit less entertained, but it may not have been all for this new convenience, and maybe because of the current company. What a downer, but couldn't win everything, right? As long as the plans, plots, and all that unfurled, some things just had to be taken in stride - calmly, coolly.

A shrug was returned as a response, while the figure found a spot to casually lean nearby. "Yeah, yeah, wonderful." And, trying to sound more enthused, "I love who they chose to redecorate. Really, some nice stuff. Need to call the guy up sometime."

Luffy, for at least a moment, looked dumbfounded as he stared back at Ivan. He had actually assumed Ivan had only been in Sin's range by accident, a bystander suddenly caught in the crossfire. It hadn't occurred to him that Ivan was actually here to fight! Once he realized this, Luffy began to smile, a very bright and strangely energized smile that almost seemed inhumanly wide. "Yosh, I see!" he replied, nodding his head firmly.

Sin, from behind, had let loose another attack. From the corner of his eye, Luffy had seen it coming, and immediately turned to face it head-on. He raised up a single fist and clentched it so tightly, it gave off an audible sound almost like leather tightening.

"Okay then!" he yelled out, then oddly began to dig his heels into the cracked rubble beneath him. "Show me what you can do, and we'll move in together!"

As the lightning bore down upon him, Luffy flashed a devilish smile, his eyes wide with excitement, then took a swing with his balled-up fist just as the crackling energy was inches away from striking. His hand poured down the center of the blast, suddenly releasing a tremendous burst that sent a concussive wave emanating outward; an acric smoke billowed out, clouding the scene completely in perfect black.

Once visibility was regained, though, Luffy was standing perfectly unharmed, with a small, fading wisp of smoke trailing away from his fist.

"LET'S GO!" he shouted, issuing a thunderous war cry, then began to run straight at the source of the chaos once more.

Sonic wasn't in the mood for a spiel - he thought this guy was gonna keep it short, not tell him stuff he already knew. Sonic crossed his arms and started tapping his foot impatiently. Who was dumb enough to be in this part of town if they weren't gonna fight anyways? They'd get squished! The information session was something Sonic could put up with, though...until they got to "furry little animal power." That was where he drew the line.

"It ain't furry little animal power, buddy," he corrected the guy flatly, then zipped behind him faster than the eye could see. "It's speed." That knowledge imparted, he zipped back around next to Knuckles. "But yeah, 'm in. What's this crazy magic music 'f yours do, anyways?"

[identity profile] knuckle-headed.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Furry little animal power? For someone who needed help, this guy sure was pushing it. He scowled at the guy, not bothering to show off like Sonic clearly was. He had strength, and he knew it; that was enough. Besides, he could always pound the guy into a pulp if he kept it up anyway.

"Don't underestimate us," he growled, shooting Hamel a sharp look. "I'm in, too." From the looks of it, people were getting hurt; Knuckles couldn't just stand by and watch, even if they were people he didn't know. "Whatever this thing is, it needs to be taken out."

[identity profile] superiorevil.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
The additional comments were ignored as they were unimportant. "Nonetheless, it is a valuable distraction that should not go to waste."

As long as the city was preoccupied with the monster and the damage it was causing, it would help their movements remain undetected. The shadowy figure turned away, only pausing to glance at the other, "Keep an eye on the situation, but do not let yourself be seen."

[identity profile] faithxhealer.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Flonne knew Laharl had had his eye on taking down this monster for a good while now, and it was nice to...well, to get back to normal. Giant monsters were something you'd find in the Netherworld - they didn't mess with your head or make you fight against your friends or anything like that. They just roared a lot and caused some damage and...well, if they were a little smaller and laughed a lot, they'd be Laharl.

Either way, it was good to be doing something both of them knew well. "Okay!" she gave a salute, then smiled as Laharl's voice softened. "Don't worry about me, Laharl-san. I'll be fine." She watched as he leapt away, moving to keep out of the range of the monster's attacks but still keep Laharl within range of her magic. She couldn't help but smile at the Overlord's Wrath - when did he not start with that move?

It took everything she had not to cry out a warning when the bolt of lightening appeared. He'd be fine, she told herself. It was Laharl. He'd be fine.

[identity profile] masterfulflames.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Look, it's cool," came the light reply. "I know how to take care of things, thanks." And it would be even better if the other up and left to find something else to do. Not being seen? Easy. Not being distracted? Workable. Dealing with present company? No.

The battle was mildly entertaining, thankfully. Certain tabs were being kept, at the very least.

The counterattack by Sin couldn't have been more obvious to the Overlord. He simply lept up high into the air, as the lightning struck his previous location, dropping down to land back on the cobblestone street.

"Tch."

His Overlord's Wrath had barely even scratched it, although, admittedly he hadn't put not nearly as much strength into it as he could have. It had been a feeling out shot, and it seemed he was going to need to dish up everything he had. He glanced over his shoulder to keep an eye on Flonne's location, as his scarf came to life and he pulled out his sword.

This was going to be a hell of a fight. Laharl couldn't have been happier, just how to take this thing down? He didn't even want to think how much HP it had. Well, for now he'd just toss what he could at it he figured.

So with another amazingly high leap, Laharl just brought his sword up high above him, energy crackling around the blade as he floated mid-air and with a cry swept it down, a huge wave of green energy slamming towards the monster.

No one could deny that it was a strange occurrence. Who had ever heard of rain indoors (at least, not without magic, anyway). It didn't take long for him to become soaked, his robes only becoming heavier.

The first thing he noticed was the building flying through the air, and immediately Braska came to stop. Obviously, this was where the fighting was going on, and he was late.

There were already quite of people here, he could see, and they were fighting with all their might. He couldn't help but smile. All these people together, fighting for one purpose... It didn't matter what their motives were, or whether or not they would normally fight alongside one another, they fought as one.

Something he needed to get to.

He immediately cast NulShock on himself before casting the barrier on the other groups currently fighting. It only allowed them one free hit each, but hopefully that one hit would protect them enough.

[identity profile] kotetsu-blade.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Auron tucked his glasses away. With this rain, they'd only be a hindrance. His arm was loosed from its cradle in his coat and his blade was shouldered, but he had yet to join the fray. Instead he watched Sin closely, attempting to figure out just what it was capable of, Sinspawn aside.

So far, all he could tell was that it used lightning, but that was obvious enough from just looking at it. A man within or not, it seemed as though Sin had as much strategy to its actions as its predecessor. He would have to participate in order to find out anything else--and that was fine.

It was then that he felt the magic wash over him, and Auron glanced over at the yellow pyrefly lazily orbiting him. "I would have thought you'd be the first here," he called over his shoulder to Braska.
