Finder's Keeper's (Active)

Finder's Keeper's! (Active)
Character(s): Glitch, Cain, Donna, Rosette, Harry
Content: Glitch mistakes Rosette for a scary homeless woman in an alley.  Fortunately, he's with Cain and Donna.
Setting: J7ish
Time: Evening
Warnings: None foreseen

Glitch was having a good time -- but, then, anything shiny helped Glitch to have a good time.  And Glitch was a real people person too -- and it didn't matter that the blondes all ignored him.  He was having a good time.

And so it surprised him to find a crazy woman in the alley he poked his nose down.  She was clearly terrified, and Glitch's first instinct was to comfort her.  But she was also crazy and very edgy -- and Glitch, not being the brightest or bravest, quickly held up his hands and backed out of the alley...

...And almost into Cain and Donna.  Spinning, Glitch stared at them a moment, then looked relieved.  "There's a scary lady in there," he confessed, somewhere between a man and a child.  It was a simplistic sort of fear, and that made him seem more childish than he actually was.  Also, his face was capable of creating almost cartoonish expressions.

"I wouldn't go in there.  She yelled at me to leave her alone!  I think she was scared of me.  Me!"  He said this as though he couldn't quite believe it.  Why would anyone want him to leave them alone?  He was certain he was charming company -- and not at all scary.  "I think she might be homeless," he confessed breathlessly.  Why else would she be in an alley?  "But I wouldn't go in there to feed her, no sir."  With an emphatic shake of his head, he turned to resume his course to the cafe -- or wherever it was he was headed.

A second later, he spun around with wide eyes.  "There's a scary lady in there.  I wouldn't go in there.  She yelled at me to leave her alo--hey, where ya goin'?"

Donna watched as Glitch came out of the alleyway looking somewhat scared. At this moment, he reminded her more of a child, than the older man that he really was, at least physically.

"Scary woman?" Donna's interest was pinged, and she turned back towards the alleyway that Glitch had just left. Slipping her journal into her coat pocket, she made her way down the alley.

Reaching the end of it, she saw a young blond woman curled up. Her eyes widened and she gasped a bit. Could this be the girl that the two people had been talking about on the journals.

"Oi..." She said softly, kneeling down. She reached out to gently touch the woman's shoulder. "Hey. I'm Donna. I'm here to help." she figured she would introduce herself to try and get the woman to calm down before doing anything.

Cain rose a brow. He could see, in a way, how someone who didn't know Glitch could find him - well... maybe not scary, but his personality (along with the glitching) could make for a problem. Like Donna, he went down the alley anyway, although kept a careful hand on his revolver, hidden within the folds of his jacket.

The girl looked terrified and he paused before getting to close, moving his hands at his sides. Right. Not exactly the best one for this now, huh? He tried to look less... threatening and keep back while Donna, hopefully, could calm the girl down.

Rosette had had a rough few hours, to put it lightly. She honestly had no idea where she was - she'd run from her hotel room, not even looking where she was going, and after several twists and turns she'd found herself in a rather dark little alleyway. Well, if she didn't know where she was, nobody else would either. It worked.

She'd made a journal post in the midst of her panic, hoping to get some help and instead winding up with that man instead.

...that man. That man had screwed her up but good, and she still didn't know his name. He was still just that man. Damn.

She already knew she couldn't trust the security on the journals - the Doctor had shown her that, and if the Doctor could get through it then she had no reason to believe that man couldn't either. So when he showed he was watching...

Well, she just couldn't tell anybody anything. She gave Harry her name (though she didn't know how it would help) and curled up, leaning her back against the wall and shivering. She was tired. She wanted to sleep. She wanted to find someplace where she could sleep and not have to worry about anyone coming for her. She wanted to feel safe again.

Unfortunately, none of that was happening.

She'd stayed where she was for she didn't know how long, dozing several times and always waking with a jerk. She couldn't sleep, not now...but she kept doing it, and the last time she did, she'd awoken to find someone staring at her. She hadn't reacted as well as she should have - shrieking and yelling at him to go away - but then again, she never reacted well when she was scared out of her wits. He'd run, and she'd tried to gather her wits. Hopefully he wouldn't come back.

No, but it seemed like her hiding place of sorts wasn't working anymore, as not five minutes later someone touched her shoulder. Rosette flinched away from the touch - she didn't want to see anybody, not yet, anybody could lead that man to her - but lifted her head and looked to the woman when she heard her speak. She knew she was a mess - hair mussed, face tearstained and dirty, and generally looking like she'd just gone through hell (which, in so many words, she had) - but right now she didn't care.

"Help?" she finally managed, still not quite sure who this person was - she'd said her name was Donna, yeah, but who was Donna? "Help- but how-" She shook her head, not knowing if she could trust this person - these people, actually, since yet another person had shown up - or even what was going on.

Harry moved through the streets, replaying Rosette's name on the journal every few minutes to help focus the spell. He had taped a little compass he had brought with him to the journal, and channeled his tracking spell (which for whatever reason hadn't blown out the device) into it. With the name as a focus he navigated the twisting streets in hopes of finding Rosette.

The rational side of Harry's brain reminded him he was stuck in a foreign city full of unknown dangers with no home or job, and that he should be focusing on getting back to Chicago, not running off to rescue every person he met.

Luckily that part of his brain was pretty used to being ignored by this point.

Finally the compass pointed straight down a side alley Harry immediately noticed a girl who looked a bit like the picture in the journal, as well as the Donna woman he had been talking to, a twitchy looking guy with curly hair, and another guy in a trench coat and very nice hat who seemed like he knew how to handle himself. Of course, most of his attention was currently focused on the terrified looking teenage girl curled up in the alley floor

Deciding to announce his own presence Harry taped his staff on the ground and said, "Hello, Donna, right? Good to meet you gentlemen, my name is Harry. And you must be Rosette." The compass point proved that. He moved over and kneeled down a little ways away from Rosette. "Hey, when we spoke over the journals you seemed like you could use a friend, and it's a well known fact that in the absence of a friend a wizard is the next best thing. How can I help?"

[identity profile] oi-earthgirl.livejournal.com 2008-08-24 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, help." Donna said, keeping her voice as reassuring and calm as possible. When Rosette had turned to look at her, she had seen just how bad she really looked. Someone had roughed her up, and from what she had gathered, she knew who it was at the moment.

"My friend Glitch happened to find you in here, and he came out and said there was someone in here." She wanted to explain how they found Rosette, mostly trying to keep her as calm as possible. "I just want to help you. Are you hurt, can you walk?" She asked the typical questions while trying to figure out Rosette's condition.

She was about to say something else when she heard a male voice come from behind her. Turning to look, she recognized him from his pictures in the journal, it was Harry. She watched as he introduced himself, and came closer, but stayed a bit away.

Turning back to Rosette, Donna waited for an answer, not wanting to overwhelm her.

Cain straightened when Harry came through, and gave him a careful look. Donna seemed to be getting somewhere with the girl though, at least. He edged away back towards where Glitch stood, removing his fedora and holding it against his chest, keeping a steady watch on the other trio, as well as casting a glance back out of the alleyway every so often. Call it habit.

"How long exactly have you been here?" he quietly asked Glitch, as to not disturb the panicked girl and her help. It didn't seem possible that Glitch could be there much longer than him - just as it probably wasn't possible that he would remember.

Rosette tried to pull herself together. She had no idea who any of these people were, but they were trying to help (or so they said) and that was definitely something she could have used.

"Y-yeah," she replied after a short silence, "I...I'm-" She choked on the word fine. She wasn't fine, not by any stretch of the imagination. "...I'm not hurt," she finally managed. Sure, she was still a little bruised up from the battle with Sin, but that man hadn't hurt her - not physically, at least.

She turned her attention to the new arrival: Harry, she remembered before he introduced himself. She'd talked to him over the journals. She couldn't help but laugh at his introduction - a choked, sobbing laugh that suggested she wasn't quite alright yet but was trying to get there. "...think that's what I could use, yeah."

Rosette had been asked if she needed help, and she turned her attention to that. "Is..." she started softly, face falling. She knew what she needed, but she wasn't sure she'd like the answer to her question. "...is there anyplace...safe...here?"

[identity profile] ithehellamharry.livejournal.com 2008-08-28 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Harry only vaguely noticed the two men moving to the end of the alley, his focus on Rosette, who frankly looked scared out of her mind. He could only wonder what had happened, who had terrified her, and where could he find them and beat them senseless. He knew he shouldn't get so worked up, but despite his awareness that it was stupid and chauvinistic it was, seeing a woman in pain still somehow managed to push all his buttons.

Donna seemed to be doing a good job of calming her down at least, as Rosette seemed at least a bit less panicked than she had sounded on the journals. Harry gave Rosette a smile he hoped was reassuring and said, "Well, I'm not that familiar with the local safe houses just yet, but in a city this size, it shouldn't be that hard to get you off the grid long enough for us to set up a safe place. If you think that's something that you would be willing to do."

Of course, Harry would need to know more about what she needed protection from before he could help her, but right now getting her calmed down and into a safe place was top priority. There would be a time for questions later.

Suddenly he heard the twitchy guy express amazement to his friend (Cain?) that Harry was a wizard. Harry guessed wizards weren't all that abundant wherever he had come from. Turning his focus back to Rosette, Harry was surprised when the twitchy guy, (Really have to learn his name) spoke up.

Looking over his shoulder Harry contemplated the two. Cain certainly seemed competent, and while the other man seemed fairly eccentric, Harry had long since learned that eccentric by no means meant stupid. Still, in the end it was the girl's decision on who to let help her, so Harry decided to keep his mouth shut for now. No use in overwhelming her.

Donna thought for a moment, she had just arrived in the city, so she didn't know of everything at that moment. Then, and idea hit her, an idea involving a beanpole in a brown trench coat and a blue police box.

"I know of someone, and something that can help." She said, musing for a moment. "But until he can get that blue box here, we're going to need somewhere to stay. This alley probably isn't the safest." She looked towards Harry for a second.

"Would you be able to somehow protect a place for a small amount of time if needed?" She wanted to ask in case, but she wasn't going to force Rosette to do anything that she didn't want to do.

"But what do you think?" She asked, turning back to Rosette.

Already to work, then? It would be slightly difficult without knowing the area at all, but he would have to improvise. The girl did need help, for whatever reason, and he wasn't about to turn his back on her. He gave them a nod, although he wondered a bit what 'blue box' entailed, and how such could ever be any help. "I will, you can count on that." His voice was firm, honest.

He glanced down towards the girl with softer eyes, and hoped that she could accept the help they offered.

Rosette blinked, taken completely by surprise at the strange man's response.

And then she laughed. She couldn't help it - she'd been through so much hell and probably shouldn't be laughing so soon, but the idea that a gun - nothing else, just a gun - would keep her safe was just too funny. It was a desperate sort of laughter, but she needed it right now. "Yeah, me too." Pulling her gun out of its holster, she let it drop at her feet. "Didn't help much."

That admission sobered her up pretty quickly. Her first and only line of defense didn't do anything for her, not in this situation. That was why she'd asked for help.

She looked from Harry to Donna, still shaken but calmer than she'd been all day. "Whatever works."

[identity profile] ithehellamharry.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Luckily Rosette looked like she was pulling herself together. She seemed like a pretty tough girl, and Harry was sure she'd be on her feet again in no time.

Even as he listened to Donna's plan, in his head Harry was already drawing up a few simple wards he could create without any advanced preparation. Nodding to the older woman he replied, "Yeah, I should be able to throw up a couple of nasty surprises for anyone who tries to get the jump on us. They won't be pretty, and they won't last long, but they should do the job. And if all else fails...well," Harry slowly slid his .45 revolver halfway out of his pocket, "I hear three guns are better than one."

Standing up slowly, Harry offered Rosette a hand. "Well, no sense in sitting around all day. What do you say we blow this popsicle stand?"

[identity profile] oi-earthgirl.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Agreed." Donna said, moving to stand, but offering her arm as support, in case the girl was hurt and not saying to. Also, she reached down, and picked up the gun Rosette had let drop, not that she knew how to use it, but more to not leave it lying around.

"Take my arm if you need it, ok? We'll get you somewhere and keep whoever did this at bay." Once they got somewhere safer, she'd try to get in touch with the Doctor, to get him and the TARDIS over here. That blue box was as safe as anything, right now.
