Falling Sky [active/open]

Character(s): Anyone and everyone
Content: The domes are falling!
Setting: Entirety of Paixao
Time: Week 42
Warnings: Probably violence and injury.
Note: This will be multi-thread style. Feel free to toss your characters wherever they may be!

There was a loud bang and suddenly the painted skies of Paixao began to crack. Angels and clouds separated from the mural they had once been apart of and began to fell to the earth, crushing anyone and anything they managed to land on.

They were the first, but they certainly weren't the last.

Cid's Shop

The world was crumbling. That was nothing new to Alice, who'd had it happen to her more times than she would have liked, or liked to admit. But as the tremors began, she wondered if perhaps she was falling into her own mind again. And Wonderland was here, too - here, of all places. Why not? She must have completely lost it this time.

Unperturbed, the Londoner simply smoothed out her pantsuit - useful, for working in a shop like this - and waited for the fall to begin.

Cid, meanwhile, had been heading back to his shop when the domes had started crumbling and while he wouldn't have been at all surprised to find that his earlier actions had made things easier he wasn't about to leave his things behind. If the shop got ruined then it wasn't any skin off his back, but that was where he'd been keeping his things as well. And the less he had to dig through the rubble for those, all the better.

Still, he had to admit to being surprised to find Alice there, much less finding her apparently unconcerned about anything.

"The hell are you doing here? The damned city's falling apart!"

At that, Alice looked surprised. "Oh, is it?" she replied, sounding shaken by the revelation. "I thought I was just going mad." Again. When the world fell apart, it had only ever been just she who had to deal with it. But now that it wasn't, she didn't really know what to do.

"Well, then, I suppose we ought to get out of here, shouldn't we? I hardly fancy being smashed into a pulp." She might pretend not to care about her own survival, but the situation frightened her, loathe though she was to admit it. Then again, she didn't have to; it was present in the quaver of her voice.

"Course we should!" Cid answered, as he headed for the back of the shop. "Hell, I only came back t' grab a couple of things." Not materia, of course - he hadn't any of that since he'd shown up - but a few other reminders of home. He'd have liked to bring his last project out with him, but that wouldn't exactly have fallen under the category of traveling light.

A brief moment later, he reappeared, carrying a bag with him. "Come on. Let's get th' hell out of this place before it gets any worse."

Alice nodded, following Cid. The rather grouchy older man may not be what one would call "eloquent", but he certainly had more of a grasp on the situation than Alice, who heard some of the sounds outside interspersed with those of a hellish train, winding its way through... something. She couldn't remember where she'd heard it before.

"And where shall we go after? The outside isn't exactly safe, either." Wonderland. Her Wonderland was here. She supposed she could bring Cid there, if worst came to worst, but she rather didn't like the idea of sharing her insanity with anyone else. After all, Dr. Bumby had made her do so with him, and all it had accomplished was the former gaining the latter's resentment. But this was different. Cid, for all his faults, had been unexpectedly kind to Alice, and she had grown to rather like him. Perhaps, if she offered...

"How in all of Ifrit's hells am I supposed to know that?" Cid answered. "It ain't like I know how far this is gonna spread."

Yes, the domes were falling. But until the dust settled they weren't gonna know how much of the city was still standing, or even if any of it was. For now, the best anyone could do was get the hell out of the way and wait. Still, if Alice happened to have a suggestion, he supposed the least he could do was listen. It wasn't like there was all that much else to do, apart from keeping out of the way of the worst of the falling rubble.

"We could go to Wonderland," Alice blurted, staring uncertainly after Cid and wondering why in the hell she was even mentioning her broken little world. But Cid had been good to her - better than anyone she'd known in London, save for her old Nan, perhaps - and she did not want to see him distressed. "It's here, and it's... mine. I know it well. Perhaps we could find some shelter there."

She was mad. She knew she was, and she was almost certain this place had been all in her head (especially with the revelation of Wonderland), but that didn't mean she could bring herself to stand by and do nothing.

Wonderland? Of all the places that could have been offered, Cid wasn't sure what to make of that name. Hell, it seemed almost too good to be true, based on the name alone. But too good to be true or not, if it was in fewer pieces than Paixao was, he'd take it.

"As long as it ain't falling to pieces, I won't complain," he answered with a shrug.

Alice shook her head. "It's already in pieces," she told him, remembering her last trip, "but some of them float, so it ought to be alright." Mostly, and even if it wasn't, she knew Wonderland better than anyone else. "I know places where we can take shelter, and I know how to deal with what's in there." It wouldn't be as safe as the city had seemed, but the city really hadn't been very safe after all, had it?

She only hoped they would make it out in one piece.

Already in pieces? And floating pieces at that. It couldn't have sounded stranger if it had tried, between that and the already ridiculous name of the place. Still, if the pieces were floating, then presumably the place wasn't actively falling apart. Or... something like that anyway. Cid wasn't exactly going to claim to be an expert on how other worlds worked.

"Still sounds like a weird place, but hell. I'll take anything right now."

"We should get out of the city, first," replied Alice. She also wanted to make sure that the few people she actually liked in this place hadn't died, though she kept that to herself. She could always look for them once she was safely out of the city. Besides, she couldn't very well do that with her head smashed in, now, could she?

Alice hoped they could at least salvage some supplies from this mess; she had a feeling they would need them in Wonderland.

"Course we should," Cid answered. "It ain't like stayin' here is gonna be doing much good." Actually finding a safe route out might be easier said than done, but it wasn't CId wasn't going to try, and so with a nod he once again picked up the pace. Standing around and talking was all well and good, but no one could say that his shop was terribly near one of the gates, and with things still falling to pieces, he wasn't going to risk trying the dragoon's way out, even if he did have confirmation that Alice would be able to follow him.

"It's probably gonna be fastest if head this way," he added, nodding in the general direction of the Joutenheim gate.

Alice didn't bother to reply in the affirmative, allowing her actions to speak for themselves. She ran after Cid, one hand still clutching her knife close so as not to lose it or harm someone who didn't need harming. She thought she heard the sounds of something dark and oily slicking its way towards them, but firmly ignored it; she did not care if there was a monster following them or not (and likely it would only be in her head), and she needed to focus.

It wasn't often Alice could shake the sounds of Wonderland, and she wondered how long she could hold off before falling back into her world. She needed to take Cid there, not simply go on her own.
