I'd do anything for love... but doing that may not have been the best idea [completed]

Character(s): Vyers, Gwen, Genie, Urd
Content: Date + Contest = Disaster
Setting: Elysian Fields
Time: Week 28, night
Warnings: none!

His arm entwined with Gwen's, Vyers couldn't help but wonder just what he had gotten himself into. He hadn't been expecting so many offers to help over the journals. Really, all he had wanted was a suggestion so he would be able to take her out to dinner. Although now that he thought about it, he really should have known, shouldn't he? He himself had noticed a few similar entries on the network from time to time, hadn't he?

Vyers supposed he should be somewhat grateful for Urd and Genie's offers to help, but instead he felt quite nervous about the whole thing. There was some sense of foreboding deep down that he couldn't shake about this whole thing, as though something--or many things--were about to go horribly wrong. He tried to keep his worries to himself, however, and keep Gwen from noticing.

He needed to be more optimistic, that was all. Everything would go just fine.

He didn't really believe himself.

As Vyers sped up, Urd drifted back a bit, stunned. The nerve! The gall! That stupid demon! Her anger growing exponentially, she sped back up to match his speed, scowling on one side of the couple. "Oi! You can't take it to go, that's not allowed! You haven't even had the WINE yet!" She'd worked so hard on it, after all! All day spent brewing and distilling this potent love potion, just for him, and this was how he repaid her? She uncorked the wine she somehow pulled from nowhere and attempted to splash it on the couple in a fit of rage -- only the wine missed them completely and splashed towards Genie instead.

Meals to-go? But, this wasn’t fast food. He didn’t offer pick-up. There was dine in experience and that was it. Where did they get this wild impression that he was some sort of drive in, meals on wheels? Unless this was some attempt at dine and dash. In that case, that was just rude. He scowled and watched as Urd sped in front of them. Good, they could corner them this way. No one (and he meant no one) walked out during one of his dinners.

Arms wide open, prepared to snag the two, Genie instead found himself showered in wine which Urd had decided to spray at the couple. He stopped completely, wide eyes wandering to his now wine soaked vest. This was one of his best suits… Now stained to the point he looked as though he had been involved in a horrendous crime. His shaking hands slowly made their way to his lapel and patted the fabric. Don’t get mad, he reminded himself. Don’t get mad. It was just an accident. The suit was only a vintage item. A Stuart Hughes and Richard Jewels original, limited edition, irreplaceable…

Suddenly a giant foot slammed down in front of the pair, easily enough to put them to a dead stop before they could attempt to move around it. “Excuse me?” boomed the irritable owner. “Are you… Are you tryin’ to pull a fast here?” He asked, looking down at the couple as though they were mere ants. In contrast to his now enormous stature, they might as well been. “Did you want my help? Did you bring me here, did you make me cook? And all the sudden you’re walkin’ out on me? I don’t think so, not right now, not before you’ve even tried your appetizers. No one walks out during one of my dinners. You’re getting’ your dinner, so SIT DOWN!

W-Well they certainly were persuasive, weren't they? Gwen quite nearly chokes her husband when the slam settles before them, her eyes wide and her mouth agape. How exactly did one say no to that? Gwen didn't actually have anything to say to that, in fact. She just stares, and stares, and stares.

It's alright, honey, if you want to chicken out of this, Gwen in no way can fault you.

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Urd forgot about the couple as she watched Genie. It wasn't often she saw him genuinely upset about something but she knew even he had a breaking point. Before she could blink, he was a giant in their path. She stared up at him with a mixture of awe and trepidation. Knowing him, he'd be back to his cheerful self in a flash, but until then...

She zoomed up to Vyers and Gwen, placing her hand on the demon's lower back and ushering them back to their table as she looked over her shoulder up at Genie. "Vyers is so right!" she called, laughing nervously. "Why don't you guys sit back down and we'll be right back..." She leaned in closer to the couple, her smile replaced by a scowl as she hissed, "I don't know what you're up to, but just do what I say for once, will you?"

And then she flew back to Genie, a contrite expression on her face. "Uh...s-sorry, Genie...I didn't mean to ruin your suit."

Genie looked far from impressed by Vyers’ words, his eyes only narrowing further at the demon before returning to his beautiful and ruined suite. It truly was an unpleasant sight to see a Stuart Hughes and Richard Jewels original treated with such disregard. Genie felt as though the stain had grown since the last time he had look at it, spreading itself further and further. He tugged at his jacket in an attempt to hide the stain, slowly shrinking back down to his precious stature. Vyers and Urd were so right; he was in no shape to serve. Not like this.

“It’s okay.” He replied flatly to Urd. “You’re right, I can’t serve like this... So it looks like I’ll just have to join them!” Appearing between Vyers and Gwen, the genie threw his arms around the pair and pulled them in close. “Whoever said three’s a crowd, hu? We’re gonna have such fun time tonight. Just you two, me, and all the chicken Parmesan we can eat.”

So it seemed like the escape-plan was a no-go... well, alright. They could do this! Breathe! It'd be... easy!

(It's a shame they couldn't level up from this encounter.)

But then... then the night took quite the different spin, and flabbergasted, she stares over at Vyers. Three could be a crowd when it was supposed to be their date.

...hm. Maybe there was still a way around this. It wasn't perfect, but...

"I-I have an idea! We can do a double-date. Vyers, myself; and the two of you."

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wait, what?" Urd turned as Genie disappeared and reappeared by the couple. Sighing as she rubbed the back of her head, she considered her options: it was obvious they'd made a mess of things and her wine was a total failure. Genie had a full dose of it and more and he wasn't even affected! Though she was sure he was annoyed at her for ruining his suit. Bowing her head, the goddess held out her hands -- quietly and without any of her usual showiness, Genie's suit magically repaired as if by itself. That done, she made her wary way towards the others.

Just in time to hear Gwen's suggestion. She chimed in just as Vyers did, echoing him. "Wh-What?!" She held up her hands. "No, no, no. That's not necessary. This evening is about you two." She grabbed Genie's arm and pulled him down towards as she whispered an aside for his ears only.

"I think it's time we let them have some time to themselves."

[identity profile] ttlynotblue.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
“Oh, don’t be like that.” He drawled, showing no sign of other protest when Urd pulled him away from the pair. “There’s no reason why we can’t enjoy dinner too. Besides, you saw what happened when we left them by themselves. It can still be about them even with us there. Why, I’d bet they’d be happy to have us with them.” Even if the couple had just tried to escape from them.

[identity profile] lovesamidboss.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Genie, that was completely the idea. And if Gwen happened to elbow her husband in the ribs, well. He should really be quiet. Gwen had a plan and she was going to see it through despite the reactions around her. After all, if Urd and Genie joined them... then surely they would pay attention to each other and allow Gwen and Vyers to at least try and have some time to themselves.

It was a sound strategy, or so she though.

And so Gwen merely continues to smile and hope that something out of this craziness was salvageable, as she had learned that making a genie angry (again) was really not on her to-do list.

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2011-06-18 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Experience had taught Urd there was no winning an argument with Genie once he latched on to an idea...and did she really want to press the issue? She still wasn't convinced he wasn't mad at her on some level. The evening had already become a complete disaster. One had to wonder if it was worth salvaging at all. She caught the little moment between Vyers and his wife and sighed, sitting down. They had some kind of mastermind plan, did they? Well, she knew when a battle was lost.

Mirroring Vyers' displeasure, Urd folded her arms.

Either Genie was very good at ignoring others feelings or he was completely oblivious to the suffering of those around him. No one seemed content except for him. It was a beautiful night; the perfect atmosphere both in visual appeal and company. Genie smiled at the others and scooted the chair he had summoned for himself in closer. There was silence. And more silence. And to follow that silence, likely even more silence. And it was that silence that hung over them that begun to tip the genie off that not all was right. The more he looked at his company, the more he realized how downright miserable they all looked. Then it dawned on him. He had completely forgotten what tonight had been about! Why, he had gotten so wrapped up with everything, he had overlooked the fact that the night was specifically for-

“Ah, the chicken!” He exclaimed, on his feet once again. Why, the reason everyone was so miserable was because they hadn’t eaten yet. What else could it have possibly been? They must have been starving. Oh, this was so typical of him to forget. Hopefully they wouldn’t be too upset with him. “I completely forgot. Back in a flash, guys!”

And with that, he vanished in a cloud of blue smoke.

There were times when Gwen thought that her husband was oblivious. But now, after being in Genie's presence for a good while, she decided that Vyers had nothing on Genie. Gwen sighs and leans her head on Vyers' shoulder, as if to apologize for elbowing him earlier.

"Well, at least we'll get to eat."

Genie wasn't completely wrong to have the thought that food would help. Gwen was hungry.

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2011-07-16 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Urd leaned forward to thump her forehead against the table as Genie vanished. Her voice was muffled as she addressed the couple in front of her. "When he gets back, let's just eat as quick as possible and be done with it, okay? The sooner you satisfy his desire to give you two an enchanted evening, the sooner you can actually get some alone time."

She lifted her head and placed her fingers to her temple, eyes closed. "For what it's worth, he does want to help you, Vyers." A small smile curved her lips as she glanced over to Gwen. "You're just lucky Gwen here likes you the way you are, without all this showiness, or you'd be out of luck after this night."

[identity profile] ttlynotblue.livejournal.com 2011-07-20 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
There was no such corner that Vyers could crawl in and go undisturbed. Genie would find him and effortlessly draw him out. Not by force but rather annoying the demon to the point he had to leave before he did or said something he would regret. All the while, the genie completely oblivious to the irritation he’d caused Vyers, of course. But it was when he was trying to be annoying when one had much to fear.

“Chicken parmesan and alfredo for the lovely mademoiselle,” Genie said, having appeared again without as much as a warning. He placed the plate down carefully in front of Gwen. “Filet mignon, rare, with the white truffle risotto,” the genie continued, placing another plate down in front of Vyers. “And stuffed pork roast with rosemary-garlic potatoes for us.” He finished, holding two more plates on his serving tray for Urd, who was likely unaware he had made something for them as well, at himself. “Should you two need anything else, just ring.” Genie instructed and held out a little bell before placing it on their table. “We’ll be at the other table.”

[identity profile] lovesamidboss.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
At Urd's comment, Gwen's eyes narrow just a fraction, because while something probably was Vyers' fault, it certainly wasn't him himself. "You haven't seen him at his best," she says, her voice a teensy bit sharp. She rests a hand on Vyers' neck, hoping he may stop hiding himself.

Her defensive front drops when Genie is back with the food and she beams at him. "Thank you! It looks wonderful."

She peers at the bell, and the relief kicks in. They're able to be left alone, after all.

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2011-08-03 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Urd just seemed mildly amused by Gwen's reaction. So quick was Vyers' wife to jump to his defense that she (nor Vyers, but that wasn't a surprise) didn't hear the compliment within her words. Contrary to Gwen's belief, she'd seen Vyers at his best a couple of times, rare though those times were.

At Genie's entrance, she sighed and stood up, picking up her plate from his hand and wordlessly heading back to their table. Frankly, the sooner this night was over, the sooner she could put it all out of her mind.

...the pork roast did smell delicious, though.

[identity profile] ttlynotblue.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Was that a sigh? Genie looked over at Urd questioningly as she began to walk to their table, plate in hand. Was pork roast that predictable? Maybe he should have been more daring and gone with lobster or snow crab. He hadn't tried seafood in awhile. Turning his attention back to the to the couple, Genie smiled and bowed before following after the goddess. She seemed to be in more of a rush than usual. Hopefully everything was alright.

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
At their table, Urd set down her plate and reached back, lifting her hair off her shoulders for a moment as she stretched. When Genie joined her, she glanced sidelong at him, eyebrow raised as she regarded him in silence. Then she smiled slightly, letting her hair fall once more as she looked away.

"...guess we got a little carried away. Sorry, handsome."

[identity profile] ttlynotblue.livejournal.com 2011-08-11 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
“Carried away? What do you mean? I think tonight went well.” He glanced back at the couples table and scratched his head. “They’re a lot closer now, don’t you think? Unless…” Genie turned back to Urd, a brow raised in suspicion. “Unless you’re still sour they picked my table over yours.”
