To say that it had been a nuisance to get out to the nearest gate was something of an understatement. They'd managed to keep at least something of a light going for most of the trip, but even then they'd had to stop and beat off... shadowthings every once in a while. He would have called them a variety of Creeps, if it weren't for the fact that everything other than the appearance seemed different. Not that he'd Scanned them of course. This wasn't the time or the place. Maybe later, when there wasn't bunches of them all at once.

Maybe when he didn't have something in mind. Something much more important then bothering with what the little guys were. The gate that was ...well, not quite coming into view (although if it weren't for the darkness it would have been) for example.

It was for exactly that reason that Squall had started with what he had, to be perfectly honest. It was the simplest method of doing a lot of damage that he could think of. Not that it had worked, but it had been a good place to start.

"I've got a couple of other ideas," Squall answered with a shrug. "But they take longer to get going. The easiest was also the fastest."

After all, if the fastest method worked then there wasn't a need to try anything else. Too bad it didn't seem things were going to be quite that easy.
