Let's break down these walls [active]

Character(s): Squall, Zack, and Rinoa
Content: An attempt to break through the thorns.
Setting: Joutenheim
Time: Who can tell?
Warnings: Violence (mostly to plants), summoned creatures, Heartless

To say that it had been a nuisance to get out to the nearest gate was something of an understatement. They'd managed to keep at least something of a light going for most of the trip, but even then they'd had to stop and beat off... shadowthings every once in a while. He would have called them a variety of Creeps, if it weren't for the fact that everything other than the appearance seemed different. Not that he'd Scanned them of course. This wasn't the time or the place. Maybe later, when there wasn't bunches of them all at once.

Maybe when he didn't have something in mind. Something much more important then bothering with what the little guys were. The gate that was ...well, not quite coming into view (although if it weren't for the darkness it would have been) for example.

"We ready for this?"

Zack took the few steps forward that placed him next to Squall, anticipation building in his eyes as one hand gripped his still holstered sword. He hadn't seen much action in the last couple of weeks and Squall had been more than gung ho about tackling the few small fries they had run into along the path.

This SOLDIER was beyond ready for some action.

"That's a bit pointless. I've been ready." Zack supported his statement with an ominous metal-grinding slide of his sword, hilt propped in both hands and tip pointed towards the gate. "Take point, Squall. I've got your back."

"I'm as ready as I can be. I'll back you guys up as much as I can." She told them, obviously placing herself as the support for whatever was to come.

She couldn't say she wasn't slightly worried about all this since there was only three of them, but she had confidence in Squall, and if Squall had confidence in Zack's ability, then so did she. She just hoped she would be able to keep up with them as she prepared herself for what was coming. Although, this would be so much easier if it weren't so dark. For awhile she had attempted to use her magic to get some sort of light, and she had, but it hadn't been easy, and nothing had lasted for very long at all.

The faint vision of the unscathed vines was brief, streaks of intense flames brushing past Squall in quick succession as fire pushed against the wall, lighting up their profiles and throwing strange shadows on their faces. Zack lowered his out-spread left hand, swinging his sword in a circle above his head before cocking over his shoulder and behind his back. The blade started to wreath itself in a strange glow of warring blue and red, the sign that his own Limit Break was peaking.

When Zack said he got Squall's back, he didn't mean he'd sit back and watch the show go on.

"Screw easiest, Leonhart. We don't have time to dilly dally around here."

Rinoa didn't say anything at first, surprised that Squall's limit break had caused...nothing. No damage at all. But then again, they had known this wasn't going to be easy.

If she only had Angelo with her, she'd be able to use her own Limit Break. Sure, she could always use Angel Wing, and that would increase her magic power, but then she'd just keep casting without being able to stop, and that wouldn't do them much good if something other then magic needed to be done. For now, she would save that for a last resort. First, she wanted to see if Zack's attack would work. If not, she would step in and try something of her own.

"Well, do you have something better to try then?"
