Goddess Lost [Completed]

Character(s): Urd, Lara Croft
Content: Urd arrives in Paixao.
Setting: Vanaheim gate.
Time: Mid-morning, Week 6.
Warnings: Description of large breasts. Someone think of the children!

Outside the fruitful Vanaheim gate of Paixao, the sky was clear and the scenery was deceptively peaceful. As per usual, a small line of people gathered outside, waiting to get into the walled city. It was business as usual...which made it all the more shocking when a loud clap of thunder rent the sky and a thick bolt of lightening shot down from nowhere to crackle on the ground some yards away. The people in line gasped, some letting out frightened yelps, but none went to investigate. That would just be foolish.

If they had summoned the courage to see what the damage was, they would have immediately seen the dark-skinned woman pressed face down in the dirt, long white hair splayed around her. Her left hand twitched slightly. Suddenly she sat up on her knees, whipping her head back and forth in growing shock.

"This isn't Heaven," Urd muttered to no one in particular, deep purple eyes narrowing. She looked down at herself and sighed in irritation. The front of her elegant dress was covered with dirt and tips of her hair were singed. She scowled and lifted her hand.

From the gate, the people in line could see a green glow increase in brightness where the lightening had struck. They decided it was best to disregard that area altogether. And get inside as soon as possible.

Urd stood up, now wearing a completely different outfit. The sleeveless purple jumpsuit hugged the generous curves of her body, the collar dipping so low that her stomach was visible. The only part of the outfit that wasn't scandalously tight was the lower half of the pants, which widened into baggy comfort. She flipped her long white hair from her shoulders and smiled in satisfaction. Dressed for success, it was time to investigate.

The line at the gate had shortened, but there was still a fairly large group waiting to get in. The man at the end of the line had only a short moment to feel relief that the strange events of the past few minutes were over when he felt a presence behind him. He turned and got an eyeful of bronzed, generous cleavage.

He squeaked, backing up into the person in front of him. Urd floated in place, arms crossed under her chest, smiling sweetly. "Hey, there," she said, low voice melodious. "Can you tell me where this is?" Faced with her heavenly beauty and charm, mortal men always fell at her feet. She'd get what she wanted in no time!

The man muttered something incomprehensible under his breath and backed up more. Now the whole line was aware of Urd's presence and reacted not with awed reverence but unmistakable fear.

"...eh?" Urd's face changed from seductive to confused. She let her bare feet touch the ground and walked forward, her confusion growing as the line parted, as if the people were afraid they'd contact some disease from her. She frowned, annoyed with what she perceived as an insult.

She stalked to the head of the line, forgoing her original plan for good old fashioned aggression. "Oi!" she called out, eyeing the woman in front of the gate. "You! Where is this?" With her hair streamed out behind her like wings and her eyes alight with anger, Urd seemed like a vengeful god on the warpath. It was no surprise the woman backed up a few steps.

"W-welcome to...Paixao," she said timidly, eyes wide as she stared up at the taller woman. "Name...please?"

Urd opened her mouth to yell but paused as she noticed the pile of what seemed to be informational brochures. Raising an eyebrow, she leaned slightly to the side, looking into the domed city. A moment's more silence and she straightened, arms folded. "Urd," she replied flatly.

The woman wrote something down in a log of some sort and turned back to Urd, holding out one of the brochures and...a mini laptop? "What is this?" Urd demanded, tilting her head, the journal floating above her hand.

But apparently, the woman had met her limit and refused to acknowledge Urd, speaking softly to the person next in line. Urd considered making the woman talk but...with the strange city stretched out before her and the weird device to investigate, she let it go. Shrugging, she entered Paixao.

Lara had not been seen publicly in the city ever since she helped to solve the mystery of St. Destino. She had been far too busy with researching the city to socialize, as much as she enjoyed it from time to time. Still, all work and no play made one rather dull (to paraphrase a certain saying), and so the Englishwoman had decided it was to her advantage to go for a walk after breakfast and a nice cup of tea.

So it was that the archaeologist was briskly walking through the city when she noticed something... rather odd. Raising an eyebrow, Lara watched the woman, content to simply allow events to play out for the time being.

Lara had been watching the strange woman, hidden by the crowd. After meeting colorful characters such as Sonic and the Doctor, seeing a woman walk by with objects floating about her was nothing unusual. Having seen what had just transpired, however, peaked her interest. This woman was dangerous - friendly-seeming,but dangerous nonetheless. All in all, nothing Lara wasn't accustomed to (especially considering she was a dangerous woman herself).

Lara whipped around at the voice, hands automatically going to the guns she still kept strapped to her thighs. She refrained from drawing them, however, and settled for merely placing her hands on her hips and grinning (no use in causing trouble when there may not even be trouble to be had). "Good morning."

Well, this was interesting. Lara matched the look the woman was giving her, deciding to play nice for the time being. After all, this was an opportunity to gather some information on the woman, and maybe even about the city itself (though that was unlikely). "They come in handy from time to time," Lara replied. "There have been, shall we say, unpleasant events within the city occasionally." The last social function Lara had attended, she'd ended up fighting off the Heartless.

Then again, that had been fun, and as Lara herself had once told a friend, it wasn't a party until something got broken.

WHAT NINE THOUSAND?

Lara watched the stranger without so much as batting an eye this time; oddly enough, she had almost expected the woman to do something like that. Maybe it was her own experiences within the city talking, but she had learned years ago to follow her instincts and expect the unexpected. Which, in turn, made the unexpected the expected, so it really wasn't so bad.

"No, I'm afraid not," Lara replied, smiling. "And who are you, if I may ask?"

[identity profile] livingalegend.livejournal.com 2009-05-30 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That got a reaction. "Urd?" Lara asked, surprised overtaking her features for a few moments before she composed herself. "The goddess of Norse mythology?" Lara may have been mundane, in a sense, but she wasn't stupid, especially when it came to her forte. And this wouldn't be the first time she'd met a god (after Set, she had thought that nothing would ever surprise her again - she had, of course, been wrong).

"My name is Lara Croft," she continued, nodding to the woman. "I've been here for a while, myself."

Lara found herself laughing. "Not at all," she teased. "I suppose you could say I'm rather used to immortals by now." To be fair, she had also defeated Natla, a former Queen of Atlantis and an apparent immortal in her own right (at least until Lara had defeated her - and though something told Lara she wasn't quite gone, that was another story for another day).

Desensitized? Not quite. Lara was still in awe of the woman (although she hid it well) but even so, after being locked in battle with a couple of immortals, Lara wasn't quite inclined to show anything which might show a disadvantage. It was best to remain relatively stoic, just in case - and Urd did seem friendly enough, at least for the moment.

"Of course," Lara replied, taking a few steps back in order to give the goddess some room. She kept further surprise from her face with a little effort as she observed. She had definitely never seen that before, but there was a first time for everything - and besides, Lara was rather enjoying watching the elegant and impressive show of power. When it was over, the Englishwoman nodded. "Quite a few, from what I've gathered. There's a genie here that I'm rather fond of - and a fairy that I'm not. Aside from that, I've heard of several others, one of which happens to be Hades." She thought for a moment and added, in a wryly amused voice, "he did throw a rather smashing party a few weeks ago."

Lara still wasn't used to everything being the way it was, but she had adapted well, even if she was still searching for Avalon and her mother. She looked around her, noting the way people backed away from them - unsurprising, really, considering that what Urd did was definitely not something usually done (or even able to be done by most people). "There's a lovely cafe about a mile from here, if you wouldn't mind walking that far," she replied. At any rate, it wasn't as far as her own place was.

Lara, having been friends with Sonic for about as long as she'd been in the city, was rather used to being carted off places. Not that she liked it, of course, but it did mean that she got to spend more time exploring and less getting to her destination.

"Oh," Lara replied casually, "the usual. People drinking, milling about, and committing acts of violence." That had been fun, even if it was unexpected and Lara had spent the remainder of the party fighting in her high heels.

Can over 9000 also refer to their... never mind. ;x

"As do I," Lara replied, smiling at the other woman in amusement. "And it was Hades. He sent creatures called the Heartless after all of us, although I'm still not entirely sure why." She contemplated for a moment before continuing. "My theory is that he was sizing us all up to see which of us were the greatest threats, or scouting for other reasons. It didn't seem to be serious, or else I'm certain he would have attacked us himself." The Heartless hadn't been very tough, and a bullet or two from Lara had easily dispensed of those in her way.

She had no reason to hide anything from Urd, as of yet. So far, the goddess was just asking normal questions.

I could have been talking about their shoes. Or Les Yay. BUT YOU READ MY MIND TOO WELL. *bricked*

"The Heartless," Lara answered, "are odd shadows that attack the living. I don't yet know the details, but it seems that whomever is unlucky enough to be killed by them becomes a Heartless as well." She'd been meaning to get more information of the lot of them, but perhaps she'd be able to find something in the library again. "They're not terribly difficult to fight, but they Are dangerous, especially if underestimated."

"You're welcome, Urd," came the reply, Lara smiling at her companion. She didn't know Urd very well just yet, but something about the goddess made her very easy to like. She kept walking, occasionally making a slight adjustment in her direction, before looking back at Urd. "Why, thank you," she answered. She'd spent her entire life training and exploring; of course, she'd grown stronger over the years.

A lifetime of exploration and situations during which one had to think fast or die had helped contribute to Lara's current state of mind. Granted, she was neither a devil nor a saint; she'd broken into museums, bribed others and killed anyone foolish enough to fail to get out of her way (although the constant attempts to kill her certainly hadn't helped) - but she also cared dearly for those who'd stuck with her throughout the years and was currently doing her best to find her mother.

Even with all of that, however, even Lara had to admit that she simply couldn't do everything alone, especially in a place like this. Were it not for Sonic, she would have taken forever to get to St. Destino - and without the Doctor, she wouldn't have been able to analyze the church as quickly and efficiently as he had.

I've still got a lot to learn, she admitted to herself as she continued to lead the way.
