A Meeting [Active]
Character(s): Konan, Pein, Sasori, Zetsu, Hidan
Content: An Akatsuki meeting is held.
Setting: uh... I'll get back to you on that
Time: night
Warnings: ...Evil again?
She stood beside Pein, waiting. It wouldn't be long before the others assembled, and then things could begin moving. That there were a fair number of Akatsuki here was a blessing. It would make operations far easier.
That they had come to some level of agreement with the organization in charge of Paixao was a blessing as well. Now it was just a matter of how to use this to their advantage, and how to best checkmate this world.

Briefly, he wondered if he would see this younger Itachi, and if Hidan would actually attend. But such things didn't need to be worried over. If Hidan came, he came. Otherwise, he would encounter the repercussions of his defiance. How, Pein wasn't quite sure, but he'd figure something out. As for Itachi, well, that all fell on Kisame to bring him.
Hopefully, the other members would arrive soon. He did want to get this meeting going.

He hadn't any idea what had happened to Deidara, where he'd gone, or when. The one certainty was that Iwa's absent artist was gone---it was far too quiet for anything else. (If the bomb-nin had simply set out on his own for a time, he would have blown something up by now, and it wouldn't've been out of hearing range.)
It was unexpected, but it wasn't ironic; it was well-established that he would be around forever...and that Deidara would not. It was wrong, however, in that there had been no announcing light or noise. It was silent, it was uncertain, it was still, and so he would be waiting to see if his partner might return. The odds were unknown, but it wasn't impossible.
In addition, it was just like Deidara to be gone and have given no explanation.

But mysteries aside, Zetsu had paid Hidan a visit--and had intended to at least say hello to the man's apparent roommate, but it seemed he had left for work already--to.... encourage him to cooperate and come willingly. Needless to say, it hadn't worked. But that was fine by him; he'd needed a bit of excitement anyway. Hidan had "borrowed" Lex's Organization coat to make his point and insist that Zetsu leave, and Zetsu hadn't really given a damn; the scuffle had lasted barely any time at all before Zetsu had pinned him and gotten to work. Happily enough, they'd managed to keep the fight all on tile, so the carpet hadn't gotten stained; Zetsu had just wiped up the spilled blood before they left. It paid to be a polite guest, after all.
The final pair arrived soon after Sasori did, melting up through the floor, and Zetsu took a moment to bow to those that had arrived before him. He looked calm and serious enough, but there was no denying the pleased look in his eyes; Hidan was always amusing to struggle with. He gripped the back of Hidan's coat--and shirt, which was strange, as he was still wearing his civilian clothing and hair style--with one hand, and held his head tucked into the other arm, still glaring and spitting curses. Without further ado, he busied himself putting Hidan back together. "Deidara-san will not be able to join us." And as for the others? Well, he hadn't known that Kisame had ever been here in the first place, and Itachi wasn't yet part of the Akatsuki.... In his eyes, at least, it seemed that they could begin.

"Then he and Kisame are no longer in this city," Konan said simply, and waited for Pein to direct them further.

"We are short four, then, instead of one," he commented, the only indication that would be made to there being another member missing at the moment. One couldn't expect Itachi to be here when the boy both wasn't a member and didn't know where they were meeting. Kisame would have been the means to bring him, but it didn't matter.
"We have a lot to discuss. What do you know about the Organization behind the city?"
no subject
Granted, he would answer when asked and speak when spoken to, when it was business. “I’ll apologize; I’ve no information on the Organization to contribute, as I’ve yet to encounter a member and haven’t yet established any subordinates who have.”
no subject
"He's a real fucking member, asshat; get your stories straight." Hidan glared at Zetsu, now quite restored, and wiped a bit of dried blood off his neck. "His name's Lexaeus, and he's got earth abilities; he dug me up and put me back together when you bastards didn't. I'm staying at his place, and working with them now." And not you, even if he was dragged forcibly to this stupid meeting. "We'll probably be kicking some Resistance ass, or some shit like that." See? He'd had more information than anyone else. Try twisting that, bitch.

She had already conferred with Pein on what she knew; there was nothing she had to add.

The Akatsuki leader was more than curious about this turn of events.
"You're working with them now, you say? By whose arrangements?" Well, it certainly explained the coat. But if Hidan thought that it would be so easy to change his alliances, well, he had another thing coming. Regardless of whether or not Pein had ever intended of sending someone out to dig up the Jashinist.

"By Lex's, duh." Was the head honcho of this bunch really that much of an idiot? It certainly wouldn't fucking be Larxene's; Lex was the only Organization member he'd even met so far, though he hoped that would soon change. The coat was nice--actually pretty damned cool in his opinion, though he'd be returning it once he got back "home"; no point in pissing his host off prematurely over a small act of defiance that wasn't even directed at him. And Leader-chan really was an asshat for only maybe intending to dig him up someday, possibly even moreso one than Shikamaru. He'd make sure to kill them both as soon as possible when he got the chance.
Zetsu remained silent throughout the exchange, though his eyes flicked from Hidan back to Pein and Konan, alert and responsive. He'd brought the man here at Konan's request; he was just as ready to help dispense any punishment for insubordination that the pair saw fit. After all, he was at their beck and call.... Who didn't need a faithful watchdog?

"By Lex's, hmmm?" Pein queried. "And you gave no consideration to the ties that bind you to the Akatsuki? They are not so easily broken as you seem to think." Only death broke those ties, not incapacitation, and Hidan couldn't die. Therefore he would be damned, as the Jashinist seemed to often think, to serve for eternity; the Akatsuki wasn't going anywhere any time soon. But it was time to move on.
"Arrangements have been made and we will be assisting the Organization. It seems to be an alliance that will prove beneficial to both sides." The fact that it gave them easier access to hostile Paixao takeovers went unsaid. And as a criminal organization, the thought that the alliance might not be permanent was also there. But time would tell on that part.
"Sasori, Zetsu. We managed to acquire a blood sample that may be of interest to you both." He withdrew a vial of strangely colored blood. "It comes from the now deceased Mayor."

The access an alliance offered went without remark; so, too, did the test of time on that alliance. (It applied to everything, after all, and agreements were no exception, especially as they often failed it first.) Sasori still had every intention of arranging for any additional information he could, even if he would have to organize new agents in order to do so. (He was confident he could, all things considered---he was practiced in various forms of puppeteering, some of them more subtle than strings on wood and wax, dried flesh and fixed features.)
His own features proved still flexible as Pein presented the sample; interest was undeniable and it was clear in an expression of mild curiousity. "I'll admit, I am intrigued. The natives seem so unremarkable, until something like this is there to be seen."
no subject
Zetsu simply stood and listened, though the news seemed rather obvious. They hadn't encountered any personal hostility from the Organization yet, so this certainly wasn't going to be a war council against them. What else was there, then, save issuing a general order to keep an eye on and gather intelligence on them, or announcing an alliance? He too grew more interested at the presentation of the blood, stepping forward to take it for a closer inspection. "They do." He agreed.
Unbidden, another side of him spoke up, tone gruffly impatient and faintly condescending at the seeming simplicity and idiocy of both its other half and Sasori. "It's not surprising. No population can be that uniformly unremarkable without something remarkable being the reason for it."
Another voice, softer and more placating as he shook his head a little. "It could be that we simply weren't looking for the differences." A quick, normal visual inspection of the vial had yielded nothing, so he offered it to Sasori; the time for a full, thorough study wasn't now.
Rougher again, an irritable snap with just a hint of a growl behind it. "Lazy. We weren't looking hard enough."
"We didn't know to." He offered in return, calmer and more soothing. "That will change now." He fell silent at that, though his other half still simmered with mild irritation.
((OOC: Works for me. Just say the word, and we can pop a thread out for them.))

What might have earned scolding were it one of the other members was ignored in Zetsu; the darker side of him could never be entirely controlled, and so she only tilted her head slightly, thinking.
Perhaps she would do surveillance, if Pein did not need her elsewhere.

Pein listened carefully to the things being said, and the meaning behind the words. Given the circumstances, Hidan's annoyance was regretfully understandable, though Pein would never admit to such. "We have been growing increasingly short-handed, Hidan. I'm sure even you can appreciate that it takes time to recall members. You would do well to remember that we do not operate on your time." Of course, there had been vague intentions of getting Hidan out... eventually. Just not right now.
"You will continue to maintain your contact, then, Hidan," he stated. "Though do bear in mind that you will be expected to report."

[OOC: You're not alone. Sorry, guys.]

Some leader Pein was.... not that Hidan really liked to consider him as such. Testy he might be, but he'd been ditched! Who the hell would respect someone who dumped him like that? "Fuck off." And that was all he had to say about the further orders for the moment, if only because he was on a roll, and because he didn't like to submit without at least some token protest, especially when he was angry and didn't have much choice. Given that he hadn't embellished further, though, that was about the closest thing to a 'Yes, sir.' that Pein could probably ever hope to hear from him. After all, he'd been going to do that shit anyway, so there was no real reason to struggle too hard against it....
"We'll report back with our findings as soon as possible, Leader-sama." Zetsu confirmed, if only to offer a verbal agreement to push the meeting forward--and make some effort to smooth over his darker half's comments, which could run the gamut from distasteful at best, and dangerously disrespectful to outright treasonous at worst. He tilted his head thoughtfully at Sasori's speculated explanation, considering. "Perhaps." He nodded, rolling the scenario in his head. "It seems strange though, that such a program could be enforced when their central government seems relatively inefficient and lax. Though we suppose there could be a less-visible, better-ran branch that visitors don't see, or familial enforcement of some kind...." That seemed like it would be the only way for the proposition to work, honestly. But who knew? He could be totally off-base, after all. They would just have to do their research and go from there....

She didn't think there was much left to discuss in this meeting, but of course that was for Pein to decide.
