Seven Deadly Sins; More on the Way [Active]

Character(s): Luffy, open to all
Content: Luffy finds some weird thing...a Sin-Spawn? *GASP*
Setting: G5 area, the Glass Bonsai
Time: Mid-Morning, after this mess begins.
Warnings: Violence!

Luffy looked puzzled. This was hardly a spectacular accomplishment, of course, as sweet-but-stupid young man in the straw hat found himself feeling confused over a great number of things in this world and in any other. This was different, though; he had good reason to be concerned this morning, as he had been strolling quietly along, his long, slender arms swaying as he soaked up the calm and quiet morning atmosphere. Something, skittering just in front of him, had appeared from an alleyway not yet brightened by the psuedo-sunlight, and froze suddenly as it glared at him with what he could only assume to be a very large eye in the middle of its body. Luffy froze immediately as well in mid-step - leaving one leg slightly elevated from the ground, as he had not yet put his foot down before he stopped- and squinted his eyes examingly at it, his face scrunched inquisitively.

"It's...a really ugly cat?" he mused aloud, not knowing how to describe this being. Its appearance left him without words, with nothing like it in his own world to compare it to. With a blend of grays, blues, reds, and purples along its small, scaley body, as well as horns emerging from a variety of angles, Luffy simply stared silently at it for a moment.

The creature, driven by its aggressive instinct and likely sensing an easy target, took a few shuffling steps towards Luffy. In response...he did nothing. Luffy simply stood there, still not moving, his leg still raised, still wearing the same curious expression on his face. "No..." he finally said, as if correcting himself, "...it's a sheep. I think."

Whatever it actually was, sheep or cat, the creature moved a little closer, emitting a soft little buzz, as if a swarm of insects were drawing closer. "No! Sheep don't make that sound, so it's something...different?"

The creature, definitely not a sheep at this point, came just a little closer, then stopped suddenly and remained flawlessly motionless for a moment. A hush fell between the two; Luffy had apparently run out of ideas on what he should decide this being actually was, and stayed quiet until he could come up with something new.

Humming through the air, Luffy saw it suddenly lunge at him, the dragging claws on the bottom of its body outstretched. Finally taking his next step, his foot at last touching down, Luffy held out his hand to intercept it, wrapped his palm squarely around its 'face', then jerked it out of its flight and slammed it sharply against the wall.

"Huh!" he huffed, exaggerately put off by its rude behavior. "What's wrong with you, little thing? I was just trying to figure out what you are."

If there was anything in the Sinscale's mind save for the ever-present anger and urge to kill anything that moved, it would have answered Luffy's question. As things stood however, it didn't even seem to notice the fact that a question had been asked of it.

Being slammed against the wall, on the other hand, did get a reaction from the spawn. Of course, being slammed against a wall would get a reaction out of anything, but the fact that it Did Not Like That crossed what little mind it had, as it shook it's head as if to shake the pain away, buzz shrilling into something more like a keen for a moment.

And then it was straight back to aggression, urges of attackattackattack spurring it ever onwards, as it lashed out and up with its claws, trying to get a hold on Luffy's arm.

Again, there was no answer from the Sinscale. How could it answer? It had neither proper vocal cords nor enough of an intelligence to figure out what was being said to it. That the strange-tall was making noises, that it could tell. But it didn't attribute any sort of meaning to them.

Besides, the strange-tall had hurt it, and hurt it badly. Strange-tall needed to die.

But it was nonetheless pinned firmly against the wall, although it wasn't incapable of movement all the same, struggling frantically to get free of the hand that was pinning it, claws scraping against the wall - and anything else that happened to cross their path that could be used as a foothold. Get free and kill. Get free and kill.

Or try at least.

Needless to say, the Sinscale wasn't able to to withstand the assault on its already battered body - by the time the dust from the attack had died down it was already dead, lying crumpled and lifeless under the debris.

Of course, there wouldn't be any body left behind, no matter how much Luffy or anyone else would want a body to remain behind, as within a matter of moment the dead Sinscale exploded into a thousand point of sparkling light; light that spiraled up towards what would have been the sky, had Paixao had a proper sky, fading as they went. If one listened carefully, one would be able to pick up the soft song the made as they passed by, something that seemed to almost have words in it - although nothing definite.

Off to the side, safely away from the action, an amazed Khajiit watched in fascination. She had initially thought that the human (if he ~was~ human) was going to be in some serious trouble and had been agonizing over whether or not she should help him. The monsters didn't seem to be intelligent, so attacking them probably wouldn't be a breach of her vow of pacifism. Still, she had always preferred to avoid violence in favor of stealth and avoidance.

Her hesitation hadn't made a bit of difference, however. The man had suddenly demonstrated some amazing abilities and beat down the monster in a matter of moments. Obviously, he was someone who could take care of himself.

That seemed like it was going to be necessary, as there was apparently more trouble in the city. Ahnassi jerked as she heard another crashing sound from farther away. Yes, there was something very bad going on, and she seemed to be in the middle of it. She made a quick decision and ran toward the man who had just defeated the monster. If there was any trouble, it wouldn't hurt to be hanging around someone powerful like him.

"Excuse Ahnassi," she called out as she approached, "but that was very impressive. Would it be all right if Ahnassi stays close to you? She would not be so forward normally, but it seems there may be more danger around, and Ahnassi is not sure she can handle it on her own so... effectively."

The Khajiit blinked in momentary confusion, wondering if she had really been that unclear. She supposed maybe her accent or way of speaking had thrown him off. Or maybe his mind was still on the battle he had just fought. Either way, it was easily corrected.

"Ahnassi is Ahnassi," she said, pointing at herself with one hand to clarify things. "There is no one else. It is just her way of speaking."

[identity profile] shareacare.livejournal.com 2008-06-03 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Ahnassi, yes," she replied, hoping that the man would eventually get her name right. It wasn't really a good time to dwell on it, though, especially since she hadn't even managed to get his name yet.

It also seemed that it wasn't going to be a good time to ask anytime soon. The Khajiit jerked sideways in reaction to her new companion's sudden motion, first wondering why in the world he had just scared her out of her wits like that and then realizing that there were bigger problems at hand than getting each other's names right. A whole swarm of the horrible creatures had come to see what had happened, and they were apparently looking for a fight.

Ahnassi quickly scurried behind Luffy, tensing in apprehension as she watched the creatures coming closer. As powerful as her new companion was, she wasn't sure he could manage to fight them all and protect her at the same time. There were just too many of them. It was a bad situation - very, very bad... She had to remind herself not to freeze up in panic, or things might turn out even worse...

With a slight gulp, she adopted one of the fighting stances of the Rain-of-Sand style. While she hated fighting and wasn't sure if she could handle even one of the monsters on her own, she still wasn't going to roll over and die for them if they got past Luffy and came for her. Fortunately, monsters weren't covered under her oath of pacifism - only people.

Ahnassi was definitely impressed at Luffy's agility and the skill with which he managed to fend off most of the creatures. Still, there were far too many of them for him to give her complete protection. To her dismay, one of them almost made it around him, despite his best efforts. He had managed to pin it down, but Ahnassi could clearly see that holding it back was going to seriously hinder the rest of his defense. If he didn't let it go, it would either turn on him and possibly injure him trying to tear itself free, or else the others would swarm over them both and then it would all be over.

The Khajiit was completely terrified. It felt like her blood was ice in her veins, but at the same time, she also had a strange sense of clarity. Maybe it was because she had been a thief for so long... One of the first things you had to remember was to never let yourself give in to panic, or else you would be quickly caught. She knew she had to do something, or they might both be killed.

She leaped almost without thinking, arcing over the sinscale's grasping claws. For a moment, she seemed to overshoot her target, then one hand shot out and sharp feline claws tore into the side of the sinscale's neck. Ahnassi used her momentum to swing around and onto the back of the creature, gouging deep furrows into its neck as she completed the maneuver. Then, before it could buck her off, she bit down on what looked like its shoulder and grabbed its throat with her free hand, digging in with her claws as best as she could. In a way, it was just like hunting prey... Except prey wasn't usually trying to kill her.

Ahnassi fell to the ground as her victim suddenly exploded into hundreds of little bits of light. Although startled, she pushed herself quickly to her feet, spitting in distaste. She still wasn't sure what the creatures were, but the taste was pretty awful. At least it was somewhat comforting to know that they weren't all that much harder to kill than any other creature that size. They didn't seem to have any kind of incredible magic power or rock-hard skin, like some marauding monsters she had heard of in the past. She was certain she could deal with a few more of them if she had to. That didn't mean she wasn't still terrified - for all she knew they were about to get swarmed again - but at least she wouldn't be completely helpless.

There were still two more of the beasts, and only one of them seemed to be interested in her companion. The other had opted to come after her instead - probably the more intelligent choice, actually, given the alternative. She made a quick dash towards the monster as it approached, dodging nimbly aside as it swiped at her with its claws.

The Khajiit suddenly skidded to a halt, narrowly avoiding attack as the creature swiveled and lunged at where her momentum had been about to take her. As it passed, Ahnassi extended one hand to rake deep claw marks into its left limb and shoulder. The monster buzzed loudly in anger and attacked furiously, clawing wildly at the Khajiit as she dodged back. Then, as it reached out further, trying to snag her with its claws, she lept forward, turning aside the questing limb with one hand and then driving the full weight of her body down on it with nearly enough force to snap the bone. Although Ahnassi managed to avoid the creature's claws with the maneuver, there was a loud ripping sound as the side of her robe was shredded.

Ahnassi didn't really have time to worry about it, though, since her move had knocked them both to the ground and put her right under the monster's fangs. She pushed herself closer as quickly as she could, narrowly ducking under its chin as it tried to bite her. And then it was over, because she had her teeth in its throat and her weight was still pinning it down too much to escape. It struggled wildly for a few moments, then its efforts became more feeble until it finally just stopped and vanished like the other one had.

Ahnassi pushed herself back up to her feet, panting slightly from the fight. She brushed dust off her robes for a moment, trying to collect herself. "Fun is not exactly the word Ahnassi would use," she admitted, although she was glad that they had been successful. The alternative was far worse. "We were lucky that these were not intelligent beasts. Ahnassi has sworn an oath not to kill people - wild animals are the only exception."

She looked down at her torn clothing and sighed. That robe had been her favorite, too... the last remnant of her life in Morrowind. Now it was torn rather badly, and she would have to replace it. It was unfortunate, but better than dying herself, she supposed. "Perhaps we should be going to someplace safer now?" the Khajiit suggested.

[identity profile] shareacare.livejournal.com 2008-06-23 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ahnassi frowned at his comment, although a part of her knew he was right. There was something about the thrill of the hunt... The raw pleasure of outwitting and overpowering an opponent... It gave her an uneasy chill when she thought about it.

Despite her "exception," it seemed to her that there was so little difference between killing a creature and killing a person, when it came down to the technical side of things. The same reasoning of self-defense that was used to justify killing a monster like the ones they had fought could be used to justify killing a bandit that held you up on the road. Even if that wasn't wrong in and of itself, she had lived in Morrowind long enough to know that those who killed once or twice could easily begin to kill many more times, and for much less honorable reasons. Ahnassi had long lived in fear of the Camonna Tong, well-known for their reputation of killing anyone who got in their way. The thought of becoming anything like them was abhorrent to her.

It seemed, though, that she might have to walk that fine line, at least for a little while longer. Her companion was right. There was obviously more danger in the city, and she was unwilling to die to some kind of wild animal or watch innocents fall prey to the same.

"Perhaps it is not our own safety that is the most pressing concern at the moment," she conceded. "This city has very few guards, and there are certainly others without claws or... stretchiness... to protect them." She eyed him with an amused grin, and then shrugged, "Perhaps we should be putting together some defenses and trying to rescue other people needing help? If we find more strong fighters, we can drive the monsters out of our city. As you say, it will not be safe until they are gone."

"That was what Ahnassi said," the Khajiit noted, although she had caught sight of the behemoth lurking in another part of the city. There was no way she was going to fight that thing! Luffy might stand a chance against it with his abilities, but she was no fool... She'd be dead within moments if she tried to fight something that large. The little ones were bad enough. It gave her shivers to think that there might be other kinds of monsters they hadn't even seen yet. She almost reconsidered her choice to try to help out people in danger...

But no, she wanted to help out if she could. There had to be something she could do, even if was just to help take care of the smaller monsters. "Ahnassi is ready," she said after a moment, glancing around suspiciously in case more of them decided to jump out of the shadows. "She will let you lead the way..."
