Luffy stood his ground rather proudly, like a single brave soul staring down an oncoming storm, while the little beasts began to approach. Many of them came from down the narrow alley, while more appeared as they climbed along the walls and over the shallow rooftops, and the fearsome young pirate's eyes darted across each and every one as they came. He stood still, his arms hanging loosely down at his sides, his posture relaxed and lanky.

"Hmm. More of 'em than I thought," he commented simply, the surprise in his voice more of genuine curiosity than trepidation.

This time, the spawns attacked more suddenly, as if their murderous instinct was strengthened in numbers. The first one, closest to Luffy, leapt through the air the same as the last ones had, their outstretched claws small but no less deadly. The pirate barely even flinched, simply rearing back a clentched fist and brutally hammering it into the ground with a downward swing.

Three more at the same time were not so easily handled, this time forcing Luffy to take a short, quick leap backwards and batter the first two with a pair of timely jabs; the third, as Luffy lifted his leg and arched it quickly, was suddenly pressed under the heel of his sandal and stomped flat into the ground.

Sadly, they were not all aiming for Luffy. Two more of them, parting to separate directions around the pillar in the straw hat, came skittering quickly towards Ahnassi, their buzzing sounds growing more anxious. Luffy barely had time to turn around after his last quick move to see them move around him. As fast as he could, he kicked one of his legs straight back, sending the flat surface of his shoe ramming square into the 'back' of one of the spawns. As it went flying, Luffy's leg had no sooner came snapping back than he kicked it out again, but missed!

...or had he? The kick hadn't landed, but just barely, Luffy managed to press his toes down on one of the spawn's back legs, keeping it pinned down. It fought against him, however, angrily dragging its claws across the ground to pull itself towards Ahnassi, but Luffy's toe-hold kept it in place.

Back with the rest of his body, Luffy suddenly found himself with only one leg to stand on; he grimmaced awkwardly, his body hunched over with his back leg stretched out behind him, but managed to keep his balance just in time to see several more leap towards him!
