A Place to Crash (Completed)
Character(s): Ahnassi and Juro
Content: Ahnassi and Juro get a room. (No, it's not like that)
Setting: Actua Are [F3]
Time: Evening
Warnings: People with allergies to fur should stay away.
The walk to Actua Are was short, although not especially pleasant. It certainly wasn't unpleasant, either, but Juro wasn't exactly the best company, even if Ahnassi had decided by this point that he wasn't so bad to have around. He just wasn't an especially cheerful or talkative person. The Khajiit hoped maybe she could change that, given some time, but even though it was possible, it would definitely take some work. For the moment, though, it was enough that he was keeping her company. It meant she knew someone in the city, and that made her happy. With any luck, she would make many more friends soon.
Actua Are itself wasn't anything that impressive. It looked just the slightest bit run-down, although not nearly as much as some of the buildings in Pelagiad had been. If anything, it reminded her a little of home. Perhaps there were nicer places to stay in the city, but Ahnassi wasn't exactly a rich Khajiit and she was tired enough that she didn't want to go look at other places at the moment. This would do for now.
"Does Juro want to stay in his own room, or shall we share?" she asked her companion as they neared the doors of the hotel. "Ahnassi does not mind, either way, but it would cost less if we stay together."

Actually, it couldn't be that bad, could it? After all, it wasn't like he'd be sharing a room with a human.
"Whatever works best, I suppose," he said.

The Khajiit entered the building, glancing around casually as she walked to the front desk. Although it appeared as though she was merely curious, in reality she was trying to determine the value of the various items and decorations filling the room. She did, after all, have a trade to pursue. It was about time she considered her options.
She did have more important things to take care of before getting back to business, though. Walking over to the front desk, she leaned over to the bored-looking human there and asked for a room. There was a little dish of candies on the edge of the desk, so she selected two of those while she waited for him to find her a room key. She tossed one of the candies in her mouth as she accepted the key and her eyes widened at the sweet flavor. Those were pretty good! Grabbing a small handful of them out of the dish, she turned back to Juro with a grin.
"Would Juro like a candy?" she asked, offering him one of the sweets. "They are very tasty!"

He gave the offered candy a contemptuous glance, and snarled for a moment. "Damned human sweets," he said. "No thanks, I'll pass. For all I know they'll make my fur fall out." He scratched at his shoulder nervously for a moment.

"Our room is this way," she informed the kamaitachi, leading him down a hallway. The hotel was bigger than any inn she'd seen before, which wasn't too much of a surprise, given how large the city was and how many strangers were being drawn to it. They probably needed all the extra rooms they could get! She was just happy that their prices had been fairly reasonable. She wondered if that meant people were able to leave somehow, too.
She did notice that Juro didn't seem especially comfortable in the building. She wondered if that was because he liked the outdoors more or if he sensed something about the place that she didn't. It didn't seem overly threatening to her. In fact, it had appeared fairly comfortable and welcoming. Maybe Juro was just a little paranoid or something.

He plodded along behind her. "It better be a large room," he grumbled.

She simply shrugged at his comment on the room size, since she hadn't seen the room yet and had no idea of how large it would be. She assumed it would be at least as big as the rooms in the Halfway Tavern, which... really weren't ~that~ large. Still, she expected it would be of sufficient size to fit them comfortably.
They would find out in a moment, though... They came to the room that matched the number on the key that Ahnassi had been given, and she opened the door quickly, half-tempted to try picking the lock instead of using the key, just to see how easy the room was to get into. She was pretty sure it wasn't anything special, though, given the shape of the key she'd been given. Either way, she certainly wasn't going to leave anything valuable laying about in there if she and Juro went out for a while. That was just asking for trouble.
As she'd expected, the room wasn't really that large... But it was bigger than a lot of rooms that she'd seen at various inns in her travels. There wasn't much in the way of furnishings. There were two wooden chairs, a little table with an oil lamp sitting atop it, a small cabinet, and one large and comfortable-looking bed. Ahnassi looked over the room for a moment, then nodded. It looked okay to her.

Human beds. Meh. He wasn't a fan of them, but it appeared to be the only comfortable thing in this room.

It wasn't as good as her home, but she wasn't about to say it. Juro could be negative enough for the both of them, and she didn't want to encourage him along those lines. Besides, it was good enough, and that suited her just fine at the moment.

He fidgeted around for a moment, messing up the sheets a bit as he tried finding the most comfortable position for himself, before finally settling on curling up like a cat with his back turned to the Khajiit.

It had been a very strange day... The Khajiit wondered if tomorrow would be any different - if maybe she'd wake up in her own bed and it would all be a dream, or if she would still be there and facing another day of magic and mystery. It might not be so bad, if she could make some friends in the city. True, she had been comfortable in Pelagiad, and she would have been happy to stay there... But she was a Khajiit. She would adapt.
She sighed and glanced over at the kamaitachi curled up on the other side of the bed. She didn't know if he'd stick around, come morning, but she hoped he did. Ahnassi wasn't sure if he could really be considered a friend yet... At the moment, he seemed to be more of an acquaintance whose interests happened to coincide with her own. But she thought he was a good person at heart. Rough around the edges, certainly, and yet... given some time, she had a feeling that they might be able to develop an actual friendship. A small smile appeared at the corners of her mouth as she considered that. Yes, that would be something to look forward to...
"Goodnight, Juro," she murmured softly as she closed her eyes and snuggled into her pillow. "Have nice dreams."

And then he just lay there, just staring at nothing, wondering if he wanted to stay in the same bed as a female. A female of a different species, sure, but even so...still a female. He scooted over closer to the edge of the bed, before finally just sliding off completely onto the floor.
He didn't feel like staying here for the moment; he headed for the door, shifting into his other form as he did so. It wasn't something he liked doing much, but he didn't feel like drawing unwanted attention at the moment from anybody who might see him. Placing his hand on the door, he opened it slowly - and with one last glance back at Ahnassi to see if she was still sleeping, he left, closing the door behind him with barely a noise.
