Waiting, Wishes, and a discussion of The Wild World Beyond [completed]
Characters: Bakura and npcs Tori and various nurses(likely Heather and Lisa)
Content: Bakura waiting for his release orders, Tori giving Bakura a few items to help him out and spouting off bits from The Wind in the Willows in an (almost delusional) attempt to get Bakura to stay in the present in Paixao. Bakura trying to explain to Tori that the world ISN'T black-and-white like she thinks it is. And the usual with Lisa and Heather.
Setting:Paradisio Hospital
Time: a little after midday Sunday
Warnings: Bakura being a bit of an angst bucket and overexaggerating....(shall we say Oh!Drama!) XD
Bakura stood by the window. He had long since finished what he guessed qualified as lunch and was off the machines, simply waiting for a doctor to sign release orders. He hadn't been told he couldn't get up and he wanted to see what Nurse Gayle had been looking at much earlier. He once again had his journal open, his hair a little tussled from sleeping so much and stood by the window looking at people in fanciful outfits walking in the streets below, rickshaws, and the architecture and the sky with nothing less than a childish awe.
He was assured of his liking to this place, although it seemed that very few shared his enthusiasm, as indicated by various messages posted through the journal network and that person's comment in his journal saying it was a first to enjoy being here. Everyone he had met was nice and helpful. It was a welcome change to meet such a wonderously designed place full of friendly faces rather than the cruelty he was almost accustomed to that seemed to partially fill Domino.
He sighed, running a hand through his hair and looking at the bandage on his arm. It hurt a little still, but he could get used to it. He went back to sit on the edge of the bed to wait more.

Tori (http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j79/WhiteWzrdBakura/npc/8952e349.jpg) was standing outside Bakura's room. She was wearing an orange dress with green ribbons and pink eyelet-embroidered fabric as the trim. On her head was a sage "lady's hat" tipped cheerfully on her curls. In her arms, she held a bundle of sky blue cloth with Despereaux sitting on top. Needless to say, while the combination matched, it looked about as ridiculous as the cranberry one.
She reached out and knocked on the door before pushing it open, "Bakura?"

He put it on the bedside table and returned to sitting as patiently as possible. He heard the knock on the door and turned his head when he heard a soft voice address him.
He looked the girl over and spotted the mouse. "Hi Tori. What are you doing here?"
no subject
Tori grinned at Bakura as she walked toward him. "I'm visiting!" She seemed almost too happy. She looked him over. He looked a lot better and happier.
"...And I thought you might like to use these." She put the bundle of blue cloth on the bed beside Bakura and then took Despereaux off the pile, cuddling him to her cheek with a very content smile.
Shifting slightly, she looked back at Bakura. "Feeling better?"
no subject
He looked back up, as she asked if he was feeling better. "Yeah...a lot better."
He turned back to the cloth and picked up the smaller piece of it. He grinned. A messenger bag. He needed something like that. At least until he got himself settled somewhere.
He smiled, putting that aside, he turned to the other part of the bundle. He wasn't sure WHAT it was. It looked like an oddly-shaped blanket. He lifted it up, "What's this for, Tori?"
no subject
"Because you're good, Bakura. That's why."
She laughed as he asked what the second item she had brought was. "Oh! It's a jacket...kind of." She grinned, taking the cloth from him, "Like this."
She wrapped it around his shoulders, so that the hood hid his hair. "A little big, but the color suits you. You'll need it eventually."
no subject
He laughed when she pulled the cloak over his head. "Oh! It's a cloak!"
He smiled as she said it was big. That was definitely true. The hood fell over his eyes. But, if need be, he could use it for a blanket later that night, if he didn't get very far this afternoon.
"Umm...Thank you, Tori."
no subject
"You're welcome, Bakura." Tori smiled, before walking toward the window. She looked out. This city was wonderful. She had loved it here as far back as she could remember. Even the occasional odd looks didn't matter.
She couldn't understand Bakura at all. He was good. Why then was he so intent on making himself unhappy? Why did he deny that he was good? She simply couldn't grasp the concept of goodness as being a bad thing.
She took a breath, reciting something she had read once; an echo of something she felt was right to say here to the foreigner. "'Beyond the Wild Wood comes the Wide World,' said the Rat. 'And that's something that doesn't matter, either to you or me. I've never been there, and I'm never going, nor you either, if you've got any sense at all. Don't ever refer to it again, please.'"
She turned back to Bakura, with a soft smile and bright eyes, "I still think you're good. You're nice to me."

He'd never before met ANYONE with such a black-and-white view of the world. It bothered him a little. Mostly because from his own experience, life wasn't fair and probably never was GOING to be fair. That was just some silly lie parents told to make someone "feel better". To keep that small thread of hope on the horizon whenever there was doubt.
Although, if his analysis of this place as a "storybook-game" was any accurate, there was the possibility of such a black-and-white world. It scared him a little.
He sighed, "Tori? Come here. Listen to me (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=7C2278EB3A5FB8FB)."
He frowned sadly, weaving a tale for the girl. "Once upon a time, there was a little boy. He had a little sister that he loved very much. But, trouble seemed to follow the boy everywhere. His mommy and daddy tried to tell him that it wasn't his fault. They tried to convince him that he wasn't the one causing the problem. But, one day, he played games with his friends...And they all fell asleep and didn't wake up. His daddy was scared and sent him away. He went to another school and lived alone for a while. At that school, he met some friends who wanted to play the game that had caused his friends to all fall asleep. That evening he wrote a letter to his sister that he loved...and then something bad happened. A voice started speaking to him. Telling cruel jokes. And saying he was HIS. The boy was really scared. The next day he tried to scare his friends from his house...but they came in and played the game with him. They helped him defeat the voice, but he got hurt in the process. He later learned that his little sister was in a car accident. He was very sad. And then, the voice came back again. It still doesn't leave him alone."
He sighed looking at Tori, "That little boy is me. The world isn't as kind as you think it is. I'm not all good. The voice can come back. He doesn't go away. I can be very bad because of him. I try to fight him...but...he's just too strong for me and he gets me first."
He swiped at his eyes with the back of his hand.

Tori stared at Bakura, shaking her head. "You're sad Bakura. Can't you give the story a happy ending? You can make it happy, can't you? I make my story happy!"
She took a breath, cuddling Despereaux. "I'm gonna go Bakura. I'll see you sometime later!"
The young girl took off before Bakura's story bothered her too much.
Meanwhile at the nurses' station, Lisa was standing in front of the paper with the out-patient list. Bakura's name was there.
She grinned as soon as the head nurse began putting patient copies of release orders in the box along the wall. She looked through them and grabbed Bakura's.
Heather went up behind Lisa, looking over Lisa's shoulder. "Bakura. Of course, this is only because you want to say goodbye." she teased.
Lisa shook her head, before grabbing the care package marked for Bakura. "You still know nothing, Heather." She stopped in the hallway only long enough to unfold a wheelchair from one of the closets.
She walked to Bakura's room, pushing along the empty chair. She noticed the story time girl from yesterday skipping down the hall in the opposite direction. What a hideous dress. That's worse than yesterday's.
She pushed open the door to Bakura's room.

He didn't even notice Lisa enter. He just sat on the edge of the bed, shaking with sobs that were noticeable even when he was wrapped up in the oversized cloak with the bag next to him.
It was probably not just from the pain of his true story, but the combined effects of the past few days that hadn't caught up to him until now. He was in some strange place, he was the only one who apparently liked it, and likely none of his friends were here so he had no back-up if the voice did decide to show up.
no subject
Lisa heard Bakura sobbing as she pushed the wheelchair further into the room.
Walking toward him, she put her hand on his shoulder, "Bakura?"
She bent down to try and get a view of his face under the cloak, probably a gift from the story time girl, along with the bag next to him. She didn't approve much of the foolish girl, but she had every right to be in the hospital as everyone else.
"What's wrong? Are you hurt?"
He seemed to keep crying. She was a little surprised by his behavior. Although Gayle had said he was a little unstable earlier in the day...she hadn't thought it was this bad when she'd helped take him off the machines and gotten him lunch.
no subject
"Not hurt...Lost a little. And scared."
no subject
After Bakura pushed the hood back on the cloak he was wearing, Lisa smiled, "Oh...You know, you aren't the only one who's lost here. Haven't you been looking at the journals? That whole network has a lot of people who are new to Paixao, just like you are. So, don't worry. We'll all help you out. There's a map in the journal too. That's one of the reasons we all have them. Along with the ability to talk to everyone and things like that."
She smiled at him, "Let's get you ready to go, and then I'll show you how to use the map, okay?"
no subject
He nodded as she said they should get ready to release him and then she'd show him the map, "Okay."
He gave her a bright smile, feeling quite a bit better than he had with Tori trying to...well, explain who knows what. He still doesn't really understand this place.
no subject
Lisa paused thoughtfully, "Well you came here hurt. You were probably in worse condition than the others."
She handed Bakura the care package and his copy of the release order. "There's bandages, antibiotic ointment, and some pain medicine in this package. And there's a lot of instructions and your next appointment on the release order."
no subject
He looked over the release order, "I think I can cover this. Somehow...And I'm back in two weeks..."
He took the bag next to him and put the care package and the release order neatly inside. Then he tucked his deck into a pocket on the side and put the duel disk in it.
He smiled at Lisa. "Um...you were going to show me how to use the map?" he said hopefully.
no subject
Lisa smiled, "Certaintly. You put in your name and your password. Then I'll show you."
She waited while he put in his information, then smiled brightly, "This one is the map. She prodded a button on the journal. See. We're here," she pointed to the dot marked Paradisio Hospital, which was overlayered with a colored dot. "The color dot says where you are. The squiggly X running through the map is is the rail for the train." She smiled, turning off the journal and handing it to Bakura. "The map will tell you where you are and you can find where you have to go."
She smiled at him, "Now, let's get you out. You should explore and have fun." She walked to the wheelchair and waited for him.
no subject
Then he walked the wheelchair and allowed her to push him out the door and down the hall so he could leave.
When they got to the front desk he smiled, "Thank you, Nurse Lisa." Waiting only long enough for a response, he got up and left the hospital with a grin.
no subject
Lisa pushed Bakura down the hall. Certaintly, she would miss him. He was really nice.
She smiled when they got to the front desk, "Well, here we are."
He said thank you and she smiled, "You're welcome. I'll see you in a few weeks."
She watched him walk out the door and then returned to the nurse's station to deal, once again, during which time Heather would tease her mercilessly. But that was definitely worth it.
