Some Days are Fine, Some a Little Bit Harder [Closed]

Character(s): Axel, Kadaj, and later Saix.
Content: Axel and Kadaj escape from the jungle, close it, and then head off. Saix visits.
Setting: Morem o Lisboa.
Time: Thursday night.
Warnings: Lots of bleeding and sickness-y stuff... and then, heh, well, later... we'll see.

Axel, feeling utterly disgusted with himself, wanted to get out of the jungle as soon as possible.

Once they had teleported back, deep into the cave, Axel treaded slowly across the dirt floor, and then found himself sitting tiredly back against his hinds near their clothes, and ordering Kadaj to retrieve both of their journals across the water fall (he would not have normally, but in his current state it was difficult to even do such a simple task as walking correctly, much less hop across stones and over the strange terrain).

When the task had been completed, he teleported the both of them away, as well as all of their belongings, so the spot where the entrance to the jungle had carelessly been left open. Once they quickly redressed in a back alley, he also ordered Kadaj to move the lion statue back into place, just rendering whoever was still inside the jungle trapped. Axel, at this point, didn't care. He was already contemplating hunting down Naminé in order to destroy it.

And now, Axel knew he had to actually take care of his wounds for once or he would be in for a lot of trouble. So, yet again, he teleported them to a different location – this time, the Morem o Lisboa, where he promptly ordered them a room. Being in no condition to walk, finding himself extremely faint at this point, once Axel knew he was out of view he simply took the short cut of also teleporting directly in front of the room, opening the door, and then entering.

Exhausted, Axel took a wobbly step into the room – and promptly fell to his knees, lifting his good hand to hold his head as he slumped down to the floor...

Kadaj didn't even think about it-- he just dropped to the floor beside Axel automatically and eyed the area on his side where he knew the black coat covered the wound. Thinking quickly, he glanced over at the bed, getting back up on his feet and marching over to it and tearing off the covers. Hope the hotel owners didn't mind losing a few sheets, because Kadaj needed bandages and he needed them now.

He hurried back towards Axel, ripping the cloth into more manageable sizes between his teeth as he knelt down beside him. "Axel?" he asked, lifting one hand to the red-haired man's cheek and lightly stroking it. "We need to get your jacket out of the way... do you think you can help me with that?" Sure he could do it himself, but the faintness Axel was showing was frankly starting to terrify him. He didn't want to lose him again, not after they had only just been reunited.

... Reun..?

Kadaj gave himself a small shake, mentally cursing himself for letting his mind wander like that. He had to take care of Axel now.

Kadaj was only slightly reassured by that, and he forced himself to make a small smile down at Axel before letting it disappear abruptly. He tugged the zipper down the rest of the way, wincing slightly at the unpleasant sucking sound the material made as it was peeled away from his bloody skin. He closed his eyes for a brief moment before looking over the wound, trying to stay clinical about it and failing miserably.

The claw marks... had left furrows in the flesh, the skin pulled away from the wounds almost as if it had been pulled. They bled freely, the red fluid welling up quickly to pour out over Axel's now exposed side and trickling downwards to leave tracks among the partially coagulated blood that had already begun to cake on his skin.

With a soft hiss that was reminiscent of the cat body he had only just left, Kadaj made himself leave Axel long enough to go and retrieve some towels from the bathroom, wetting some of them and hurrying back to begin cleaning the wound. A much better option than using his mouth, considering.

Almost conversationally, he said softly, "You look like shit, you know."

Once he was sure the area at least around the scrape on his side and the claw marks on his neck were clean, he began to take a little more care to clean out the wounds themselves, making sure not to let any towel fuzz get stuck in them. Stupid hotel with it's ridiculously fancy towels... well, they were mostly ruined now anyway, so it didn't really matter. He smiled very faintly in response to the chuckle, feeling his chest constrict painfully as he looked him over again. Well... at least he was clean now?

Kadaj wrinkled his nose at the bloody coat, pulling it farther away from Axel's body and eventually tugging it off entirely and tossing it out of the way. Stupid thing. He grabbed the remains of the sheet and turned back to Axel, starting to bandage him up as best as he could. He probably wasn't doing a very good job... he had no experience with this kind of thing after all, but he had to do something.

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-03-09 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Kadaj paused, closing his eyes again. He hated the fact that this was hurting Axel, but since he didn't have any healing magic that he knew of.... He glared at the makeshift bandages, hating them suddenly. Would they be enough? They'd better be enough, because he didn't think he could bring himself to leave Axel long enough to go out and get better ones... damn it.

He tore up more of the sheet, then gently (very gently) continued to wrap the cloth around Axel, trying to help him move so that it was easier but keeping in mind that too much would probably cause him even more pain... damn it! He hated knowing that his actions here were probably insufficient, and a hopeless look slowly crept across his face as he worked. What would he do if this didn't work?

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-03-09 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Shh. Don't say anything. Just... do you want me to help you to the bed or should I just bring you some blankets?" The floor couldn't be all that comfortable, really, and Kadaj wanted to make things as easy as possible for Axel when he was in this state.

He wanted to hug him suddenly but he restrained himself, worried that it might aggravate his wounds or something. He didn't want to hurt him, but now that the whole... catastrophe with the lion was over and done with, and he was at least marginally taken care of, it seemed like a really, really attractive idea.

So he did. Still acting like Axel was some delicate creature made from spun glass or something ridiculous like that, he slowly moved his arms around him in a loose embrace, letting out a small sigh. He was just glad they were out of there now.

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-03-09 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Kadaj let himself relax, shifting slightly closer to him. Even though he was still concerned about whether or not Axel was in pain, he knew he had done what he could so far... so the two of them could rest now.

He closed his eyes, just listening to the sound of Axel's breathing for a moment. "I'll stay with you forever," he murmured in response, arms tightening around him only briefly before returning to their previous slackness. He wanted to move even closer to him, hold him even tighter, but he had only just put those bandages on and he didn't want to ruin them. He could have to be happy with this for now.

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-03-10 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Kadaj smiled, not really understanding the reasoning behind Axel's laughter but appreciating it nonetheless... even if it sounded a lot weaker than he would have liked... but at least it was there. He sighed softly, finally feeling at ease enough that he didn't feel quite so guilty about thinking about himself for once. While it wasn't nearly as severe as Axel's wound, obviously, the mark on his neck-- the name carved into it-- had been hurting for awhile... hell, the whole area felt sore. So did his chest, come to think of it... but why?

It felt better when he was close to Axel, though, somehow, so Kadaj gently rested his head against him without a second though, the smile still playing around his lips. Forever really did sound good...

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-03-10 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
Kadaj hesitantly tilted his head up to lightly press his lips against Axel's cheek in a small kiss, nuzzling against him affectionately for a moment. He obviously didn't share the same anxiety for the future that Axel did, mainly because he was still in the dark about a lot of things... but he wouldn't question it if Axel didn't want him to.

There was one thing he would question, though.... "Is there anything else I can get you, Axel?" he asked, green eyes looking up at him intently. Anything to make him more comfortable. "You need a healer too, you know. This"-- he plucked at the edge of one frayed piece of sheet-- "isn't going to be enough."

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-03-10 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Kadaj quickly moved to obey, helping Axel into a sitting position while his mind puzzled over that kiss. It hadn't been entirely unexpected, really, and it certainly hadn't been unenjoyable, but there was still something about it that seemed unexplainable. Well, he'd figure that out later. For now, he had things to do.

Once Axel was sitting up, he got up and walked over to where he had flung the jacket, wrinkling his nose at the drying blood still clinging to it and picking out Axel's journal from its pocket. What a strange device.... He eyed it curiously as he went back to his side, sitting beside him and handing it over without any further questions. None were needed anyway; he'd probably see what Axel intended to do with it regardless of whether or not he asked.

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-03-10 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Kadaj froze for a moment, eyes darting from the journal to Axel and back again, before he slowly shifted closer and carefully fixed the bandages, his head ducked slightly, almost submissively. He let his arms slowly wrap around Axel and he rested his cheek against his shoulder, rubbing against it slightly. This behavior... was kind of odd of him, really, but he didn't care. As long as Axel calmed down, he would feel better.

After staying silent for a few more moments, he gave him another small kiss on the cheek, asking softly, "What happened? Is it anything I can help with?" He nuzzled against him slightly, trying to relax him more. He wasn't even sure if it would work, but he had to try.

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-03-10 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"If you say so..." Kadaj's gaze followed Axel's to the journal, and he hugged him a little tighter. Just what had he read that was so upsetting? It had to be something important, obviously, and something that he didn't want Kadaj to get involved in... something dangerous, then.

A smile slowly appeared on his face as he realized this, and he leaned a little closer with a small sigh. So Axel really was taking care of him. His mind was still filled with questions, but that knowledge was enough for them to be silence, or at least put aside for now. Axel would tell him when the time was right. Axel cared. Axel wouldn't let anything hurt him anymore.

Axel would keep him safe.

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-03-10 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Kadaj let his eyes slowly close, smiling as he felt Axel's hand against his skin. "I'm not worried... not now that you're here." He looked up at him again, expression open and trusting. "Whatever the problem is, I know you'll take care of it."

He glanced towards the journal again, the tiniest of frowns creasing his brow. "Will you have to go away for awhile to fix it? And if so... when and for how long?" He hated the thought of being separated from Axel for any reason, but he supposed he'd have to tolerate it if this little problem was going to go away and leave them both in peace... oh well.

[identity profile] argentum-basium.livejournal.com 2006-03-11 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Kadaj blinked at him but gave him a small nod, leaning in close for another heated kiss before pulling away to move under the bed. It was probably a good thing that he was so small, as that meant he could fit under it without any real problem, but that fact sort of irritated him. There wasn't much he could do about it, though, so he just slipped the rest of the way under it.

He shifted very slightly to get comfortable, listening to the soft creak of leather as he moved. Hmm, it would probably be better if he stopped moving entirely... he could do that. He peered out from his hiding place, feeling irrationally pleased about his new location. He had never hidden under a bed before... it was unexpectedly fun. He smiled slightly to himself, waiting.

And just in time to stow away; for only seconds after a soft knocking came from the door. It pressed on for a moment before ceasing completely, followed by a monotone voice that would be familiar to at least one of the occupants in that room.

"Number VIII." From the other side of the door stood Saix, idly flicking back strands of hair that blew out of sequence when he teleported.

To Axel

[identity profile] silent-selene.livejournal.com 2006-03-11 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
As forced as that smile was, Saix apparently didn't share the same type of enthusiasm.

But he didn't speak just yet, eyes lingering up and down the wounded body of Axel's as if inspecting a slab of meat for the most marble.

"Common sense should have told you that I'm more capable of opening the door than you, Number VIII. But otherwise..." Without so much as breaking their gaze, the Nobody reached into his pocket and pulled out a clothed vial, unveiling it to reveal an almost evergreen fluid inside.

An Elixir.

"Unless you don't believe your wounds are that tragic." His eyes searched Axel again.

To Axel

[identity profile] silent-selene.livejournal.com 2006-03-11 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
His gaze was shattered only for a split second to follow the container as it was tossed away lethargically. Saix did bow slightly at the thanks, but that too was soon lost in a sea of memories. He wasted no further time in answering.

"What is your status with the Gate?"

To Axel

[identity profile] silent-selene.livejournal.com 2006-03-11 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
"It's that kind of answer I'd rather not hear." It was easy to see that he wasn't amused about the situation, though very few things amused the Nobody in the first place. No, Saix was being completely serious about the whole ordeal, and already his opinion was that of growing distaste.

"If there's nothing to report, Number VIII, then I have to conclude that the Superior's message has obviously not gotten through."

[identity profile] silent-selene.livejournal.com 2006-03-11 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Interest?" It didn't matter if Axel showed his annoyance or not. Either way Saix didn't care what was around the bush unlike what was stuck inside it.

"A week where the Seeker of Darkness appeared and caused havoc and destruction? Where there were many opportunities to conduct and further our research? That is not of any interest to you, Number VIII?" And yet the entire time the Nobody had spoken in a calm voice, void of any threatening tone or other negative reaction to the situation.

[identity profile] silent-selene.livejournal.com 2006-03-11 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
It was surprising to say the least, but only for those who were expecting nothing in return.

And unfortunately, Saix was one of those who expected a lot.

"Why were you injured on the field?"
