What Remains [Active/Open]

Character(s): Urd, open!
Content: Urd has lost her true love. Can there be comfort?
Setting: Urd and Ge -- ...Urd's house. :( In M6.
Time: Sunset, week 41
Warnings: None.
Note: To consolidate any and all visits from friends, this log is kinda "party style", as in one comment chain for each visit, all in this post. Thanks!

It was so quiet without him around anymore. Urd never realized just how much life Genie brought to the house. Baking in the kitchen or racing tiny motorcycles through the hallways, impromptu concerts and performances, jokes and songs. Now the house was silent as the grave. Now the house was dull as dirt.

She'd run through a gamut of emotions already. Fear, anger, denial...but there was nothing left but to accept it now. But Urd was tired now. Losing Belldandy twice had been bad, but there was always the knowledge that they were from the same world, to say nothing of the fact that the younger goddess was reunited with Keiichi. And when Belldandy vanished, Genie had always been there to comfort her and lend her some of his seemingly endless strength.

Why did they always leave her behind? In this world and the next, Urd was always watching someone's back as they moved on without her. In the empty house that had once given her so much peace and joy, she pulled her knees to her chest.

Laharl's words still echoed dimly in the back of her mind -- she wasn't giving up yet. She would see him again. Even if it took eternity. Even though her heart hurt so very much, she could feel Genie's power through the pain, thumping along in time with her life. He would always be with her.

Right?

Ma was conflicted. Mostly because the lovely outfit that Ratigan had picked out for her and went through an awful lot of work had... quite a unique fate. One that Ma will likely never bring up again because it was just too dreadful. And she thought it was very nice (though she did feel uncomfortable in it, but she was sure she'd adapt eventually), but Timon was simply horrified.

And then there was the other part of how Ma was feeling. That part was winning. She's always been overly happy, and letting everyone know just how happy she was about it - that Timon had friends. So having friends was one thing, but wanting to help them. That was amazing! Ma was so proud of her son. He just kept surprising her with how far he'd come.

"It's so good of you to want to help, Timmy. We'll get her into top shape again, you'll see!" She patted him on the shoulder.

And then Timon was tumbling over himself and she flailed her arms out in panic after him, and if Urd hadn't been able to hear them shuffling through the walls before, it was impossible for her not to hear the exclamation of "Oh, TIMMY!" as Ma chased after where her son fell, patting him down. "Are you alright? You're not hurt anywhere?" She brushed some of the dust out of his fur.

Why Urd, it seemed like you might have an infestation.

“No, I’m alright.” He assured her, all the while pulling away from the meerkat. Timon knew she only cared about him, but it irked him regardless. Ironically, he was in fact the very same when it came to those he cared about, though he remained entirely oblivious to it. He was nothing like his mother if he had anything to say about it. At least, when it came to worrying. “Really, Ma!” He insisted, paws held up in defense. “Look, not a scratch on me. Why, I didn’t even-”

Timon’s words were cut short by the sudden appearance of Urd, the goddess successful of giving him nothing short of a heart attack. The meerkat gave a cry of surprise as he jumped to his feet and nearly collided into his mother. The last thing he had expected was to come across company in the wall. With the exception of Tinkerbell and perhaps Woody, no one else in Paixao was small enough to fit inside. And, considering the number of marbles scattered along the tight dark space, it was likely for the better. Timon however was not so fortunate and for a second time tripped over one of the many marbles in his fit of panic. He landed square on his back, right before Urd’s feet.

Looking up at the goddess he frowned. “You could have at least left the smoke and mirrors till we got inside.”

Her shrill voice out of her system, Ma's reaction this time to him falling was a nervous gasp of "Oh" before she focused on the small goddess before them. Though the arrival out of nowhere gave Ma's heart a start and her whole body went tense, she didn't have any of the theatrics that her son did. But since Timon did seem to know her, this must've been the woman they were going to see, and so she relaxed.

"Oh, wow, you're much smaller than I imagined," Ma said. At her height, Ma's met Tinkerbell and Bullseye and Ratigan, but she knew that the standards of people in this place were much, much taller, so she was expecting that! How silly it was for her to assume!

Unsure how his mother would react to Urd’s antics, Timon immediately reached for her paw. He would have preferred if the goddess had kept her theatrics to a minimum, but that seemed unlikely. Gently, he squeezed the meerkats paw to assure her he was still there. A small smile accompanied it as if to say it was alright. If he had not trusted Urd, he would never have brought her there.

Timon stepped forward and gestured to the newly revealed room. “After you,” he said and loosened his hold of her paw. However, regardless of his best effort he could not help but look over the hole Urd had created in the wall. His brows knit together as he mumbled to himself. “I knew we should have used the door…”

Ma blinked at the change. She, unsurprisingly, wasn't up to snuff with this whole magic thing, and probably like her son, she never would be. It was a lot to take in, but before she could have all sorts of words fall out of her mouth, Timon had her paw in his, and it was enough for her to swallow back her uncertainties and step into the room with him.

As for the hole in the wall, Ma gave it no mind, merely kept her eyes on the now much, much taller woman. Well. That seemed more of what Ma had been expecting, but it didn't stop her mouth from forming an "O" in surprise.

"So, you're Timon's friend, Urd, then."

It wasn't the best conversation opener she's ever had.

Timon looked equally uncertain at the mention of their friendship. No, ‘friend’ didn’t sound right at all. He glanced at Urd, but only for a moment before he looked away and scratched his head. There were a lot of things he could think of calling the goddess, ‘friend’ being at the bottom of the list. The awkward feeling that came over him was mutual.

“The one and only.” He said to answer Urd’s question, a smile having returned to his face. “We were, ah… Just passing by the area and thought we’d stop by.” It was doubtful but he hoped regardless his excuse was believable. “Er, sorry about the wall…” Timon continued and gestured to the hole they had emerged from. “Ma prefers traveling by tunnel,” just as every other normal meerkat.

Under the surface he felt nervous. It took all his strength to refrain from pushing his mother at the goddess and run off. He hadn't thought this through nearly as well as he should have.

"That's right! Little Timmy here, he's a good kid. And you can just call me Ma, everyone does." Ma didn't pick up on either of their uncertainty at all, she beamed, plucking up a cracker and looking at it a little skeptically before taking a bite. After munching it down, she said, "Oh no, this is fine!"

But it likely would have been best if Timon did just push her and run, after all, her current plan of action that she thought was best, was to regal the goddess all about Ma's husband, and that at least whoever Urd lost wasn't most certainly dead.

Introductions and all that though... very necessary. She needed an opening for her story that she was sure would make Urd feel better. How could it not?

Timon could not have looked more terrified at the mention of his nickname in front of Urd. He quickly turned to his mother and frowned. “Ma…” he spoke lowly, though a whine could clearly be made out. “Otnay inway ontfray ofway Urdway!” It was as though she were purposefully trying to embarrass him. And she wondered why he never took her out much. The meerkat gave a groan and buried his face in his paws. He was already beginning to regret his decision, especially after he had heard Urd refer to him as Timmy as well.

“Ah, she wouldn’t want to hear ‘bout that.” He replied, hoping to steer the conversation away from himself. ‘Almost’ may have sufficed when it came to everyone else but not when it came to his mother. She had seen him ‘almost’ do enough. Timon wanted to show her something he had truly succeeded at and cast aside his failures in the past.

“Besides, you two have so much else to- er, talk about.” Not that he knew what all that else was. His forced smile spoke that much to the pair. “You know, like girl stuff or something?”

"What? Timon, I thought you grew out of speaking with your mouth full." Because clearly that was what was going on with this whole pig-Latin thing.

But luckily for Timon, being a mayor meant nothing to Ma. It just went right over her head, and Timon's words led her right back on track, and she focused back to Urd excitedly. Even if this wasn't the thing she should probably... get excited about.

"Oh, yes, of course!" Actually approaching that topic though had Ma's excitement sweep out of her, and she stepped over to Urd, looking up solemnly. "I heard about your loss."

Timon did his best to avoid Urd`s glance but when his eyes widened that much and his spine stiffened just like that it was clear he was not nearly as oblivious as he let on. He looked around the room in search of anything that would distract him from the thought of Urd`s vengeance. An escape route would probably have been the smartest thing to look for – assuming he would be leaving in one piece.

Knowing his luck both women would turn on him by the end of this.

Timon, if there was anytime to try to escape, now was probably it, because Ma's attention was fully focused on Urd now.

"Oh, honey, we never handle these things the way we want to, but we can't expect to have to handle them. It never goes the way we think it... might. And certainly you don't hope for it to happen." She tilted her head, thoughtful. "When I lost my husband it was just awful! We all expected him to go by a hyena taking off with him, but no! It went completely differently! He was..." She looked down, gaze drifting towards wherever her son had gotten to in the room. Both father and son were... rather... accident prone...

"But! At least you can have the assurance that he's still alive, wherever he may be. You're not lost forever. Just look to the stars until you can meet again."
