Longest day of my life... [Completed! FINALLY!]

Character(s): Cid and his crew, Jenova, Miles Edgeworth
Content: Later part of the day in Cid's modest little shop...
Setting: Cid's shop, across the street from the center branch of the Actua Are.
Time: Friday afternoon
Warnings: Jenova is ugly and Miles is a gay lawyer?

Cid didn't know if he could take much more of this Paixao place. Since he'd arrived, he'd had his life threatened and his store trashed more than once, and it hadn't even been a goddamned week. Traverse Town had been a bit dull, honestly, what with the lack of customers and all, but he'd give anything to be back there right about now.

He and Cam had started working on a buggy right outside of the shop all morning with the assistance of some of the others in his shop--it wouldn't take long to finish now. He just hoped it would hold up okay... and that they could bring it on the train. Because while he didn't want to call his craftsmanship shoddy, he didn't think that it was a wise idea to drive it all across this god-forsaken continent.

It sure was refreshing to do some hard work, though.

Healer smiled up at Miles. "Thank you." She very carefully went about the business of pulling her boots off, wincing and hissing as she jarred her injured ankle more than a couple times. Ugh. "Whoever came up with these needs to be smacked. You do not fight in heels," she grumbled, massaging at her feet a little. She laughed a little at Hojo and his hair, pulling her own ponytail loose. Even if her uniform was soaked, she would stay like this.

"So, who's who in here? In this form, I am called Sailor Star Healer, or Healer, though I have no healing powers." A wry smile crossed her face.

"Hm?" Hojo looked up, blinking owlishly behind his glasses and taking the offered towel. "Thanks," he said with a slight nod as he set about rubbing his hair off with it. He looked up at Yaten when she laughed at him, glaring a little.

"I remember who you are," he said flatly. "Call me Hojo if I didn't tell you before; I can't recall if I did."

He honestly couldn't believe what he was hearing. Pee Pee?! Was this old man completely DAFT?

Miles cleared his throat and straightened, pulling at his unbuttoned shirt collar and looking over at Yaten.

"My name is Miles Edgeworth," he said, looking pointedly at Cid before bringing his gaze back to the young girl. "And my companion here is Phoenix Wright." He shivered slightly, though more from the disgusting nickname that the unfortunate defense attorney had managed to pick up than at the cold.

"We've still got a few to pick up at the Ecos Na Cathedral in Muspelheim before we reach our destination," Miles said to Cid, taking a seat beside Hojo and crossing his legs. "I thought it best we gather as many as we can--don't know what we're going up against."

[identity profile] walking-complex.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh? You're going to go fight someone?" Hojo deemed his hair as dry as he could get it and turned his attention to his glasses, which were spotted with rain. He pulled them off and used the towel to dry the lenses before putting them back. "How many are you taking? I would assume you'd be fine if everyone in here is going with you."

[identity profile] i-hate-quakes.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh no, we wouldn't be taking everyone here, to my knowledge," Miles said, folding his arms and tapping his index finger thoughtfully. "The children would stay behind, of course, and I do believe that the dark-haired man over there... Cam, was it? Will be staying behind as well. But we'll be having another arrival... shortly..."

Edgeworth trailed off, coming to a realization. Yes, at times more could be better, but... did they really have room for all these people in the buggy? He counted off the names in his head and came up with 9 people, including himself.

Oh dear. This was definately a problem.

"Just how many did you say this buggy would sit, Mr. Highwind?"

[identity profile] i-hate-quakes.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
Now it was Miles's turn to purse his lips.

"Indeed we do, Mr. Highwind," he said. "I've counted that on the return trip, we'd have about eight or nine people. One of us will have to stay behind."

He looked down at the floorboards and ran over all the names in his head. Most of them were fighters, and it was important to have a driver... and they obviously couldn't leave the wounded behind. Phoenix's friend was in trouble, so there was no way he'd stay behind and idly wait.... so that meant the only one who wasn't absolutely imperative to the success of this mission was--

"Me."

The word escaped his lips in a low, breathy whisper. How... perplexing. Now that he thought about it, there really wasn't anything he did that Phoenix couldn't have done without him. And he'd certainly only get in the way once they arrived...

He looked up, his face neutral as he repeated the word again with more force.

"Me. I'll stay behind and let the rest of you go on ahead without me. I'm sure I'd only get in the way."

He slowly brought his hands into tight fists. He felt so... useless.

"Where are you going that you need that many people?" Hojo frowned a little. He, of course, knew nothing about Maya's little note in her journal. "Has something been going on in the domes?" He had no clue, secluded as he was out in that damn fortress. He made a note to relocate as soon as it was convenient.

[identity profile] i-hate-quakes.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
Hojo's voice brought Miles out from his thoughts and back into the real world. He shook his head slightly and turned to face the thin man.

"We're heading to some sort of facility just outside of Muspelheim," Edgeworth said simply. "It appears as though some of our friends are being held captive and need assistance in getting out."

[identity profile] walking-complex.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
A... facility? Hojo frowned a little. He knew of nothing outside of the Muspelheim gate other than the fortress... It was very possible there was something there that he didn't know about though. It wasn't as though he spent a lot of time looking around.

"...Is there any chance I could go with you?" he asked, directing the question then at Cid. "I don't enjoy the thought of walking all the way back to the gate, and there's somewhere I need to be out there as well. I wouldn't be returning with you so there would be room for your friends."

"Me. I'll stay behind and let the rest of you go on ahead without me. I'm sure I'd only get in the way."

Even though Phoenix wasn't exactly fond of the idea of going on the rescue mission without someone he knew well, he knew it couldn't be helped. They simply had too many people.

"Mr... Highwind, was it?" Phoenix looked at Cid and asked, resisting the urge to give the pilot a dumb nickname of his own. "Do you have any idea how much longer it'll be until we leave?"

Cam had kept quiet during most of the conversation; this didn't interest him in the least. Although he did enjoy building the buggy - it took his mind off of things he knew he should worry about - this just wasn't his battle.

"We still have some things to fix and add," - he said, although he looked like he really wasn't paying attention to the people around him - "And then a small test drive. A hour or two sounds about right."

He picked up his uniform jacket, and it was still wet. "Cid, you wouldn't happen to have a spare coat around here, would you?"

[identity profile] kamereon-toiki.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Healer facepalmed. "I think you're missing something I would consider ovbious, Cid, Miles," she voiced, quirking an eyebrow and smiling a bit. "If it's a matter of seats, I'm sure I'm small enough to sit on someone's lap, and I only weigh about a fraction of what a normal adult weighs."

For once, being so gods-curst tiny has its advantages, Healer thought wryly. She worked on trying to get the excess moisture out of her hair, watching the group.

((OOC: Christ on a cracker you guys, stop posting so damn fast. XD))

Although Cid had seemed worried about her going with them, she felt she had an obligation to help since he had taken her in and everything. In Italy, it was all about repaying your debts...

"Cam and I won't be more than an hour or two."

Henrietta looked up. "Where are you going?" she asked. To be honest, she hadn't really been paying attention...

"I certainly have no intention of going anywhere in this weather," said Jenova primly, rather flustered by the way the quiet shop had suddenly turned into a center of activity. "Mr. Cid, would you object if I wait here until you return?" she asked, hoping he heard her over the bustle. She had to confess she was interested in seeing what sort of mess Cloud had gotten himself into now. Her wayward child had an amusing tendency to attract trouble even when it had nothing to do with her.

But until then, the waiting would be unpleasant. She felt uncomfortably exposed surrounded by this many strange people. (Very strange, in some cases, though admittedly Jenova didn't have all that much experience of what normal humans acted like.) And yet-- it seemed that not all of them were strangers, since she had just caught sight of a familiar labcoated figure by the door. "Hojo! It's such a relief to see you again, my faithful Professor. You do remember me now, don't you? I may no longer be in a specimen tank, but I hope I'm not easily forgettable."

[identity profile] walking-complex.livejournal.com 2006-03-27 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh no," Hojo muttered as he looked over his shoulder. The hell did that strange blue chick want? He stood up and turned around, frowning over the top of the couch.

"...No, I don't," he said somewhat uncertainly. He was becoming les and less surprised every time someone claimed to remember him, but this was just bizarre. "Who are you, again?"

[identity profile] fromtheskies.livejournal.com 2006-03-30 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I- I'm Jenova," she said, virtually pouting. She had hoped that the scientist would recognize her in person, and she would gain an ally who had a slightly better understanding of this place than she did. "You kept me in a corner of your lab for years, I don't see how you could have forgotten me."

[identity profile] walking-complex.livejournal.com 2006-03-30 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
"How is hardly important," Hojo said, rubbing his eyes in slight exasperation. "I don't recognize you and no amount of pouting is going to change that. Is there something you wanted from me?" Something other than his death, hopefully.

[identity profile] fromtheskies.livejournal.com 2006-03-30 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Jenova sighed, wondering momentarily why she was using such human mannerisms so often. "Nothing at all, Professor. It's your loss. Go about your life, then. I'll just depend upon my darling children." She turned away pointedly, but couldn't stop herself looking back at him after a moment. "Your greatest project was named after me. What is wrong with this place?"

[identity profile] walking-complex.livejournal.com 2006-03-30 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
...Well, that was a hint, at least. Hojo's eyes narrowed a little. "...The Jenova Project hasn't officially started yet," he said. "They're still trying to figure out what it is." It couldn't be the same Jenova. Things that were locked in ice didn't just randomly follow you through a hole in space(or whatever this place was).

...But she was blue.

Healer paused, looking at the blue-skinned woman, frowning thoughtfully at the exchange. She ran a hand through her white hair, shaking her head a little. Not like this is any of my business, whatever they're talking about. They're ovbiously from the same place, if they have something like that in common...

The senshi sighed a little, surveying the group.
