Longest day of my life... [Completed! FINALLY!]

Character(s): Cid and his crew, Jenova, Miles Edgeworth
Content: Later part of the day in Cid's modest little shop...
Setting: Cid's shop, across the street from the center branch of the Actua Are.
Time: Friday afternoon
Warnings: Jenova is ugly and Miles is a gay lawyer?

Cid didn't know if he could take much more of this Paixao place. Since he'd arrived, he'd had his life threatened and his store trashed more than once, and it hadn't even been a goddamned week. Traverse Town had been a bit dull, honestly, what with the lack of customers and all, but he'd give anything to be back there right about now.

He and Cam had started working on a buggy right outside of the shop all morning with the assistance of some of the others in his shop--it wouldn't take long to finish now. He just hoped it would hold up okay... and that they could bring it on the train. Because while he didn't want to call his craftsmanship shoddy, he didn't think that it was a wise idea to drive it all across this god-forsaken continent.

It sure was refreshing to do some hard work, though.

Miles felt as though he was on his last limb, as well. A rescue mission? How utterly cliche.

He arrived at the Actua Are with Phoenix in tow, looking worse for the wear and rather underdressed, considering it had started to snow a while ago. His hair was unkempt, his white shirt wrinkled and slightly unbuttoned--he'd lost his cravat at the bar and he had a sneaking suspicion that someone had stolen his jacket after it had shown up missing.

He looked up, rather impressed with the outside of the Actua Are... but alas, he had not come to gaze upon the beauty of a quality hotel. He glanced around, trying to find 'Cid's shop'...

His eyes fell upon a tough-looking middle aged blond man swearing at some sort of vehicle.

Wonderful. Just wonderful.

Miles shivered against the cold, rubbing his arms ruefully and approaching the shop cautiously. He cleared his throat when he stopped before the crude, unshaven old man, waiting for a response.

"I'm looking for a Mr. Cid," he said officiously. "I'm Miles Edgeworth--I believe this is the vehicle I requested from him."

Miles nearly jumped out of his skin when the old man suddenly shouted at them in alarm, obviously concerned for their state of undress. Miles raised an eyebrow, but before he could say anything he found himself being pushed to the door. He let out an alarmed and undignified squawk as he was shoved into the shop and towards the fireplace.

"S-Sir!! This isn't necessery, please! I'd just like to discuss business wi--Ah... AH.. AHCHOO!"

Jenova had set out on her own from the Morem O Lisboa, having used what money Loz had to acquire sensible human attire -- well, some of it didn't quite fit, and she got the feeling she didn't exactly fit in with most of the mortals wandering the streets, but at least Loz's coat hid most of it.

The shop had been reasonably easy to find, now that she knew how to use the electronic journals, though getting there in the wind and rain had been unpleasant. She stepped through the door with some relief, and swept towards the counter. "Proprietor! We-- I require a weapon."

Having spent most of the day working - for a place to stay, no less - Cam wondered if this was the best plan of action. Obviously he couldn't go back in time... again, but he was satisfied that he made some allies... At least he secured a place to stay while in the odd city.

Although he was sure he'd catch something from the cold, but his uniform was warmer than he thought.

After most of the buggy was complete, Cam retreated inside to warm himself up a little, in which he peeled off his jacket and put it close to the fireplace that he sat in front of, although a bit off to the side. He smirked when he heard Cid push their 'customer' inside, but he didn't look away from the blueprints he had came up with on the spot.

"Well-- maybe--" Jenova realized belatedly that she hadn't the faintest idea what she was looking for. She'd always had magic to rely on before, but without the Lifestream to draw on here she didn't have the energy for that. The swords her children were so fond of seemed elegant but inefficient. Something a little more brutal was necessary, perhaps.

"Some sort of projectile weapon, I think," she said finally. "Something thatcan be easily used by someone who lacks experience. I just want to protect my family," she added, attempting to look helpless. Which really wasn't all too difficult, in this utterly useless body.

"Sit tight, kiddo. I'll get you some blankets and tea. Earl Grey better be okay, 'cuz that's what you're gettin'."

Roxas shook his head as he entered carrying an odd box full of old tools he'd found downstairs. He was half tempted to just chuck them out - most were rusted through - but he figured that with a little cleaning a few of them would be salvagable. They'd atleast be good for some use around the shop if not for selling.

"Mr. Cid really needs to find something else to give folks," he commented to a fruity man and a spikey haired man who seemed to be a friend. "We've got some regular coffee too if you want that. And a carton of milk in the back but I wouldn't trust that if I were you..."

[identity profile] i-hate-quakes.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Miles tried to sniff his dignity back up his nose, but failed rather miserably. He rubbed the end of his reddening nose and looked up at the little blond boy offering his words of wisdom.

"Earl Grey is perfectly fine with me, young man," he said, sniffing again. "I rather like it." Miles sniffed, and wrinkled his brow. "Oh, pardon my rudeness--" he stood, his wet clothing clining to his chilled skin. He reached out a trembling hand in an offer to shake.

"Edgeworth. Miles Edgeworth. And you are?"

[identity profile] fromtheskies.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Kids, huh? What're they like?"

"My children are immensely valuable to me," mused Jenova. "They've done so much for their Mother, even if some of them can be dreadful annoyances at times. They always come back to me in the end, after all." Ah, right, this was a conversation. She ought to continue it somehow... "Do you have children yourself, storekeeper?"

[identity profile] fromtheskies.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"...he looks a bit like someone I know," said Jenova with a hint of distaste, glancing at the boy in question. "But even that one had his moments. Now!" she said, turning back to Cid with complete disregard for the change in subject. "About these weapons... I'm afraid I really haven't the faintest idea which would be most suitable for me."

"Edgeworth. Miles Edgeworth. And you are?"

He set the box down near the stove and grinned. Roxas recognized the name as the stuffy lawyer he'd talked to on the journals. He was the one with the friend that was missing with Zack's friend. Poor guy... he looked like he'd been through hell. Well, if hell were a water struggle battle sized swimming pool.

"I'm Roxas, Mr. Edgeworth!" he introduced himself, taking the lawyer's hand. "Nice to meet you, sir."

"We've got some regular coffee too if you want that. And a carton of milk in the back but I wouldn't trust that if I were you..."

"Tea's fine for me, too." Phoenix said to the young boy. He was looking foward to drinking something hot, since it couldn't have been more than twenty-five degrees outside, and he wasn't exactly wearing anything suitable for such cold weather.

He sat and listened to Miles and the boy exchange introductions. "Roxas?" he said, looking at him, and then at Miles. "Is this the kid you were talking about the other day?"

[identity profile] i-hate-quakes.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Edgeworth raised his eyebrows in surprise. Roxas, the little boy who had given him the information on Maya and Cloud?

"What a pleasure to finally meet you face-to-face, young man," Miles said, smiling slightly. "Thank you again for the information--we're actually going to be leaving to retrieve your friends tonight, I believe--" He sneezed again, and frowned while rubbing his nose again. "Oh... do forgive me."

He glanced over at Phoenix and nodded. "Yes, this is the boy th--Wait. You mean when we were trying to go to sleep?" He blushed slightly.

[identity profile] aceattorney.livejournal.com 2006-03-20 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, unless there was a time you mentioned a boy named Roxas before that, in which case I completely ignored anything you said." Phoenix said with a slight shrug.

'Oh, right, I should probably introduce myself...' he thought, and stood up. "I'm Phoenix Wright. Nice to meet you, Roxas." he said, and extended a hand to the boy.

[identity profile] mysteriousboy.livejournal.com 2006-03-21 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Roxas liked Mr. Wright. He was funny. He actually reminded Roxas a lot of Mr. Cid only not as old and not as gruff or loud. "It's nice to meet you, too, Mr. Wright!" he said cheerfully.

"So Mr. Edgeworth, Mr. Wright, you're not the ones Cam and Mr. Cid have been building the buggy for, are you?" he asked. "Where are you guys heading?"

[identity profile] i-hate-quakes.livejournal.com 2006-03-21 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
The short exchance between the defense attorney and Roxas gave Edgeworth the few moments he needed to regain his composure and attempt to have the blood stop rushing to his cheeks and ears. The last thing he'd needed this boy to know was that Phoenix and Miles had shared a bed together, much less that Edgeworth had gushed about how the boy had made him question himself.

He blinked and cleared his throat when he heard the boy address him.

"Yes," he said, rubbing his chin and looking at the floor, attempting to keep his mind in the present. "Maya's disclosed her location, and assuming the captives aren't murdered or Wright doesn't do anything to jeopardize the mission--" he smirked at the spikey-haired man. "--we should have them back before the weekend is through."

[identity profile] aceattorney.livejournal.com 2006-03-21 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
"What? H-hey!" Phoenix began, half-glaring at the prosecuting attorney. "Jeez, I'm not quite as incompetent as you think I am, you know."

[identity profile] samuraiamulet.livejournal.com 2006-03-21 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Cam finally looked away from his journal, eying the one who said his name was Miles. He scoffed as he heard the comment that was directed to the man who he traveled with.

"You might want to sit down," - he said, turning back to his journal - "It seems like the cold got to you more than Cid thought."

[identity profile] fromtheskies.livejournal.com 2006-03-21 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmmm," murmured Jenova, examining the gun. It seemed suitably light and easily handled. "You just... aim and pull the trigger, correct?" she asked him. "Provide me with ammunition and explain how to load it, if you please."

[identity profile] mysteriousboy.livejournal.com 2006-03-21 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
"You're going after Miss Maya and Zack's friend, then?" he asked excited. "I'll bet Zack would be relieved to hear that. I'm sure he'd want to go with you if you could find him. He and the others were supposed to be going to look for them... I... I'm not really sure what happened to them. No one's tried to contact me since I left them... I suppose things happen, though..." Roxas sighed. "Anyways! Cam is right! You ought to settle down. You wouldn't want to catch sick over working yourself in weather like this."
