Let me save you, hold this rope [completed]

Character(s): Gwen and Vyers
Content: Gwen is heartbroken after she sends off Roxas and goes to find comfort in the form of her husband.
Setting: The zoo apartment.
Time: Evening, backdated to week 34, immediately after this log.
Warnings: Angsty Mama =(

Closing the door behind Roxas was one of the hardest things Gwen's had to do recently. The boy wasn't alone by far, but it still felt like she was letting him go when there had to be something more that she could do. Losing his memories... who should have to deal with that? And what kind of person would he be when he returned - if he returned. Gwen could be as hopeful as she wanted that the boy would come back for her to cook for him again, but...

But...

She shuddered and gave up with cleaning, her dishrag still in hand as she pushed away from the counter to find her husband. She discovered him somewhere within the apartment, and without even a word, she pushed forward and clung to his front, ducking her head beneath his chin and cried, heartbroken.

For awhile, Vyers was unable to give much more of a reaction than a blank, surprised stare. She had come to him completely out of the blue. What could have brought her to such a state? His thoughts raced and his worry rose, but he hid it all as he wrapped his arms around her in a warm embrace, resting his cheek on the top of her head.

Questions rose and caught in his throat. He wanted to ask what was wrong, but thought it might be best to wait a little while with such emotion pouring from her at the moment.

No, she wasn't making much sense at all, but that wasn't what mattered to him at the moment. She was upset, she was crying, and she had come to him. That was all there was to it.

Vyers opened his mouth, about to ask a question, and shut it again. What exactly should he ask? About what had her so upset? About what she meant? They seemed to be about the same, but sometimes it wasn't so simple as that. Instead Vyers didn't say a word, pulling away from Gwen a little to look at her and lend a silent ear.

Roxas…

That certainly explained things. Vyers had never quite been able to figure out what he thought of the boy’s situation, perhaps because of the chaos he always seemed to find himself wrapped into. But there was something to be said for Roxas’s strength in the face of his memory loss to be sure, and the pain that came with retrieving those memories… Well, Vyers couldn’t imagine much good coming of getting them back. He wasn’t even sure what the Organization had made him do when he was still among their ranks. And yet that was what the boy wanted, and Vyers supposed that was understandable. There truly was no right to be had, and an infinite of wrong that could arise.

A soft sigh escaped Vyers’ lips and he pulled his wife close to him once again, staring ahead at the blank wall with a furrowed brow. It only made sense that Gwen would pick up on all that before Vyers himself could. She had always been that way (and maybe he was a little—just a little—desensitized to it, given the hardships most demons went through in life). “He is strong,” Vyers assured her, fumbling a bit for the right words to say. “And he has good friends. He will find his way in time.”

"I do not think he would have persisted this much if he did not want them back," Vyers said. At least, Vyers was pretty sure about that. Roxas had always seemed determined to get them back. It was understandable, though. The boy had no way of knowing how dangerous those memories might be, and that hole in his life had to have been infuriating.

Vyers shook his head. "I am afraid not. I have only met the boy without his memories." Though all signs pointed to them being potentially bad and definitely dangerous ones.

Vyers cupped her chin, tilted her head up to face him, and smiled down at her encouragingly. "Do not worry yourself so much about it. You are only going to make yourself sick. If something should happen, we can deal with it when it happens. There is nothing that says we cannot help him when he needs it, is there?"

"There. That is much better," he said to her, his smile only growing. "You look so much more beautiful when you smile."

Glad to hear her laugh, he rested his forehead against hers and shut his eyes. "Do you feel better?" he asked, already knowing the answer.
