The Game's Afoot! [Completed]
Character(s): Basil, open to all
Content: The Great Mouse Detective has come to Paixao
Setting: Joutenheim gate
Time: Late evening
Warnings: ...Basil is kind of a dick. >.>
"Toby? Toby, here boy!" Basil whistled to call the hound to him, as he took his magnifying glass to the ground to inspect the rather peculiar form of grass that was growing all around him. "Very strange indeed..." He pulled up the magnifying glass, looking up and around a blade of the grass until he finally ended up with the glass pointed directly at Toby's drooling tongue, lolling out of the hound's mouth as he panted. Basil straightened up and put his magnifying glass in his coat.
"Well then. Toby, it looks like we've been spirited away to some strange new world. At least, that is if my hypothesis is correct." He grinned and thrust his arm across his chest. "What a marvelous opportunity! And if I'm right, there won't be a single sign of that dastardly Ratigan anywhere!" The thought both intrigued and excited the mouse. The only places he'd ever really seen were in and around London, save for just a little bit of traveling. And all those places hadn't been nearly so exotic as all this.
"Come Toby, take me to that line of people standing over there." The dog wagged his tail and continued to just stare at Basil, until the mouse raised his voice. "TOBY, SIT!" The hound's rear end hit the ground with enough force that Basil had to steady himself on his feet again, and then Toby lowered his head so his owner could climb aboard. "All right Toby, let's go!" The dog bounded off at full speed, only to skid to a stop once they made it to the line.

She could see the line of people outside, she was rather close to the entrance/exit and the guards were actually within reach. She peeked outside, just in time to hear a voice that sounded... well to her, rather unique. Trying to find the source, her eyes were immediately drawn to a dog bounding to the end of the line. And on his back was the owner of the voice. A mouse. Wearing clothes.
Now this was new. A mouse riding a dog was weird enough. But a talking, suit wearing mouse riding a dog was almost too much. "What in the world....?" Now she just had to know who this new arrival was. She lingered near the gate, waiting for the interesting little pair to come inside.

He was quickly greeted by the most amazing sight after Toby padded on through the gate. Every which way he looked, the plants were made of precious metals and rare stones--the kind often used for jewelry. The style of the buildings themselves resembled that of some of the older, yet well-developed European towns and cities. And not only the plants, and the architecture, but the humans--if you could call them that with such a peculiar sort of smell coming from them, nothing like the humans Basil was used to in London--why, they were all blond-haired and blue-eyed! And they all looked terribly alike, and seemed even to be the same age--or rather close to it anyway. Simply astounding! Remarkable, even!
"No, no, T-TOBY, STOP!" The hound had decided that a young woman dressed in very strange--and scandalously revealing--was the best target to make his way towards, and the dog had made no attempt to inform Basil of the intended direction. That meant that while Basil was taking in the scenery, Toby had gotten close enough to start sniffing at the girl's hand.

"I'm sorry, I didn't... mean to distract him on you." Kairi looked up a bit now, offering another smile to Basil. It was difficult not to stare too curiously, as interested as she was, she didn't want to appear rude or to scare him off.
"Welcome to Paixao."
no subject
"My apologies, Toby can be quite the frisky one sometimes." Basil looked up at the human girl, and couldn't help but notice the outstanding color of her hair. He'd never in a life seen a human with hair quite so red at that, it reminded him of an apple.
"But no harm done. Seems he likes you," he said, smiling. The smile turned to something of a sneer at her greeting though. "Yes...the man at the gate said something to that effect. Can you tel me what you know about this place?"

Finally she drew her attention away from the doggy long enough to start explaining. "Where should I even start?" She thought for a second, looking up to the intricate ceiling. "Well, the most important thing you have to know about this place is that it's not your home world. It's another one entirely."
She paused there. Sometimes that was enough to absorb right off the bat.

Toby, on the other hand, was more than happy to stand perfectly still and let the girl pet him, though he did move every few moments to get a different spot scratched.

"The city's huge, about four and a half miles wide in some places. There are tons of places to stay and plenty of shops. Don't worry about money, the inhabitants of the city will take anything shiny as way of payment. Just pluck some of the leaves you see around and they'll take that." But as a mouse.... he miiight not have to worry about that.

How did these people ever get along using money that had no real value? Was this meant to be some sort of Utopian society? No, no, the dress was almost identical to the contemporary human fashions in London, they wouldn't bother with such clothing if there weren't at least a few important similarities to be observed. Too much money was spent on jewelry and adornments, and it wasn't all exactly the same, nor in the same condition.
no subject
"Oh, but I never even introduced myself, did I? I'm Kairi." She almost extended her hand to shake, but then she realized that might not work so well. She could pick him up if she wanted to.
"What's your name?"
no subject
"Basil of Baker Street, detective. At your service, Madame!"
no subject
"Is there anything else I can tell you about that you'd like to know?"
no subject
He looked at her finger before finally grasping it with both his his hands and shaking...somewhat. He was just barely strong enough to make her finger budge.
no subject
Retracting her hand, she shifted her weight on her knees so she was more comfortable. "I can also show you some of the city, if you'd like. You'll get to know it easier if you have a guide with you."
no subject
"And a tour would be most welcome if you're willing to give one! It'll help get Toby used to all the new sights and smells. That, and it won't do any harm to become more familiar with the layout. You wouldn't by chance have a map, would you?"
no subject
She opened it up and tapped the keys, finding the map of of the city. "Yeah, I've got one on the journal, right here." She turned the device enough for him to see. "You have one too. This'll make the tour a whole lot more informative." She stood up completely now. "I have all the time in the world, so we can go now."
no subject
Having immediately recognized the similarity between Kairi's and his own, though of course the scale was vastly different. He inspected the box carefully, and flipped it open. It only took him a few moments to find the map himself. "There we are. Where to first?"
