This is Halloween~ [Active/Open]

Character(s): Link, those who said they'd join him here, and anyone else who wants to come in too.
Content: Monster in Halloween Town? Sounds like a job for a hero!
Setting: Beginning at the church, then heading to Halloween Town
Time: Morning (Week 32)
Warnings: Fighting!

The false sun hadn't risen too long ago, and the light it gave off was still soft, and the shadows were still fairly long, though getting shorter by the minute. Link was finishing off the bottle of milk he had bought as he walked towards the church, the meeting place for his little excursion into Halloween Town. There had been a little bit of talk about a monster causing havoc there, and being the Hero of Time, Link felt it was his job to get rid of it. Or at least try to get rid of it. Sure, this wasn't Hyrule, but until he could find a way back there, he would have to make the best of it here in Paixao. Besides, he couldn't slack off on his skills. It was about time he tested himself against something like...whatever was waiting for him.

It didn't take long for Link to reach the church. He looked around inside to check to see if anyone had made it there before he did, but he found the building vacant. He came back out and sat on the steps, pulling out the ocarina and playing it while waiting for everyone else to meet him.

A shuffling from the supports in the vaulted ceiling echoed briefly in the acoustics of the church. If Link had suspected it to be a loose animal or one of the natural inhabitants of Halloween Town, he would only be half right. Shortly after, there was a tapping against the wooden beams. Tap tap tap tap. It was in time to the melody the Hyrule hero had been playing, but it still seemed off and unsettling, as though the sound itself didn't even belong.

In the shadows, a man stood and leaned against a vertical timber.

Finally, an adventure! Although NiGHTS hadn't particularly felt like running around (so to speak) and being helpful, she'd had enough of pranks for now. The nightmaren had flown to Halloween Town, chuckling at the prospect of something exciting happening in this place. She liked Paixao well enough, sure, but being trapped did get boring, and now that there were other places to explore (and now that NiGHTS wasn't feeling quite so lazy), things were definitely looking up.

She noticed Link, first, and was just about to swoop down and say hello when she noticed the strange man tapping rhythmically and halted her descent. "And who might you be?" she asked him, her tone friendly enough for the moment. Despite that, she didn't sure she liked him already; something about him seemed wrong, somehow,

"Oh no, my odd-eared friend. As much as I do enjoy this place, I'm not here for Halloween Town," the shadowed figure said as he began striding across the beam like a child balancing on the lip of a bridge, "Not as much as I'm here to enjoy Halloween Town. I hope that makes sense." His tone was nearly apologetic as though he knew he was upsetting matters, even before entering the somber and spooky atmosphere. When he came to the beam almost directly above Link, he took a seat and began swinging his feet whimsically. "I've been spending a lot of time there lately and was hoping to come back. The company was unexpected though. If you don't mind, I'll be glad to watch your back as we cross over. Then we can have a more proper chat."

When NiGHTS crossed the threshold of the church, the shade chuckled briefly. "Once we get into Halloween Town, I'll be glad to introduce myself. While I'm still in Paixao, I have far too much on my mind. Call it a vacation."

Sorry; I didn't get the notif!

NiGHTS flew overhead, careful to keep a decent distance in case she needed to swoop in. She knew of the Heartless, not to mention the monster that was here; could it be possible that something else lurked? Best not to leap to conclusions until she heard the stranger's explanation, even if she didn't trust him. At Link's assessment, she nodded. "I don't see any reason either," she agreed, "but in case you're feeling nervous, I can go first." Her tone may have been a bit sarcastic, sure, but a little teasing never hurt anyone.

[identity profile] mastertemplate.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
"You lot. I hear three's company, but if we don't have a row, I don't mind it. Besides, if monsters are your biggest worry, you're better off staying back and enjoying the ground you're standing on like a coward," he said with prejudice in his voice. "Let's just say I feel like a different person when I get there."

"Take the lead, please," he motioned in the shadows, his polite hand blending into the dark.

"He's not a coward," interjected NiGHTS, who was able to feel the Ideya of Courage pulsing within the boy. That's odd; NiGHTS hadn't seen anyone's courageous Ideya glow so much since... well, Sora, to be exact. "If he were, do you really think I'd bother putting up with him?" Scaredy-cats were fun to tease, but made for boring comrades.

"Anyway," she continued, leading the way herself as she was impatient to get going, "there's no sense in getting into an argument. Let's head in, shall we?" And with a giggle, she began to do just that, twirling and dancing in the air as she did.

The shadowed figure slunk through the darkness once more after further interrogation at the hands of the strange boy and the stranger flying figure he could not make out to be anything recognizable. "Touch a nerve, have I?" he asked before flying a quick twitch, pulling his head to the side like he were attempting frontier chiropractics.

If either person soon traveling with him had bothered to look to the rafters at that particular moment, they would see a neon-glowing skeleton with deep-set eyes grinding its teeth with its thin limbs reaching out. The next moment, the darkness enveloped the ghostly man again and he waited. "Lead the way."

NiGHTS decided to ignore the strange man's remarks for the time being. There was definitely something off about him; in fact, he rather reminded her of Reala and Jackle, somehow. Mentally shrugging off the unpleasant comparison, the Nightmaren followed Link - but not before she caught a glimpse of the strange man's... was that his skeleton? That settled it; he definitely wasn't human. Well, she'd seen worse, and it wasn't as if NiGHTS was ever even remotely human to begin with.

NiGHTS swooped through the door once Link opened it, twirling and laughing joyfully all the while. "Yep!" came the cheerful response. "I've been to them lots of times. I've never really bothered to get involved in their problems before, though." Boredom, it seemed, bore strange fruit. The Nightmaren looked amusedly down at herself as she began to change into a form that was distinctly more... nightmarish. Unsurprising, of course; NiGHTS knew about the changes that took place in this town, especially as she'd been here before (And it wasn't as though she wasn't a Nightmaren to begin with).

Carefully watching his two makeshift escorts to Halloween Town move toward the back of the church, The Master smiled in the dark to see the door being opened. He hated exposing himself to the light in such a weak form when he knew what he could be once he crossed the border. He enjoyed knowing his power at full potential and looking good attaining it more than only scavenging like a carrion bird in the high branches.

He waited carefully to see Link make his way toward the threshold of the door before leaping off the ceiling beam and hitting the ground full-force. The light showed just how heavily the clothes hung on his meager frame. He strode with fervor toward the open door and smiled as he could feel the welcoming embrace of his old persona.

"Hey, you look good!" called NiGHTS, whirling and dancing in mid-air with a giggle. She loved Halloween Town; it was just the right mixture of fun and scary (but not too scary) to suit her. And there were monsters! She loved a good tussle every now and again, even if she'd mostly stayed out of trouble (where everyone else could see) lately. It had been too long since she'd had some fun.

"Oh, right," she realized, pausing in her dance. "We should introduce ourselves now, shouldn't we? I'm NiGHTS." SHe took a bow, playfully dramatic as always, and continued. "Nice to meet you!"

[identity profile] mastertemplate.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
The Master finally whipped into the light (or whatever Halloween Town would consider "light") with bravado. He switched from his typical wardrobe of ratty street clothes into a classy ensemble. A black suit hid underneath the cover of a wide black cape with red lining underneath that made him appear like a classic vampire. He still looked a little famished and his hair was the same anemic color, but his entire aura changed into one of power and confidence.

"How right you are!" he said as he gracefully held NiGHTS hand during her bow. "Harold Saxon, Prime Minister." He moved toward Link and gave offered a solid handshake. "And you?"

Whatever a Prime Minister was, it didn't really matter to NiGHTS. Still, she accepted it with an easy smile and a shrug before whirling playfully around Link. "You're right, we should get going. Wouldn't want to get bored, now, would we?" With a girlish giggle, she drifted up into the night sky, dancing and humming to herself as she followed Link. It looked like he'd decided to become the impromptu leader of the party and, well, NiGHTS didn't mind. He seemed like a nice enough guy.

"You know, I wonder what's really in this place," she called to the others. She'd seen Heartless around here before, but they were no problem. Maybe that was all there was, but she couldn't help being curious.

I AM HORRIBLE.

[identity profile] mastertemplate.livejournal.com 2011-08-07 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
NiGHTS was becoming more and more appealing to "Harold." He couldn't help but notice her sense of wonder and whimsy. It reminded him of the time he had converted the entire future of the human race into a flock of flying contraptions intent on killing for fun. He studied the unusual being for quite some time before finally responding to her ponderings. "I've been plenty of times, and I can tell you for certain that there is one thing you can always find with me around: excitement." He gave a bold and bright smile to her as she hovered in the air.

"Link, is it? You seem like the hero type, real American style. I promise, I'll not get in the way if you want. But if you need my help, simply say my name," he said with his eyebrows wagging. He seemed far too confident for a visitor going into one of the unknown realms beyond Paixao.

"That's good," replied NiGHTS, ignoring the not-so-friendly banter between Harold and Link. Really, it wasn't her problem if people didn't get along, as long as it didn't make things any harder than they needed to be. She continued her mid-air dance while the other two chatted - if their talk could even be called that. "I've had enough of being bored. There's not really much to do in the city a lot of the time." Or there was, but nothing NiGHTS had the patience for. She wasn't one for sitting quietly in a library or wandering in line inside a museum.

She stopped her acrobatics at the question and looked around, spotting an ominous shape in the distance. "I think I see something!" she called back, pointing. "Over there! Let's go check it out!" And without another word, she took off, speeding towards whatever that odd shadow was. Hopefully, the others could keep up; NiGHTS didn't have the patience to take it slow right now.

Brushing off the transparent response from Link, The Master's eyes perked with a brilliant shine when NiGHTS announced something coming their way. He was about to speak until she had dashed off into the air to follow up. His mouth hung open before cracking into a smile.

He looked over to Link while sustaining the grin, now exposing his shimmering teeth. "Shall we?" he asked with the bravado of an evangelist politician. He lengthened his arm outward to show the way toward NiGHTS' flight. Even though he was making a friendly gesture, everything from his smile to the pool of red in the upholstery of his overcoat was almost foreboding, trumping a land full of ghosts and ghouls.

NiGHTS, not having noticed the others' gestures in her impatience, continued her flight towards the creature, unable to keep from giggling just a tiny bit. Finally, an adventure! The strange, looming, almost mantis-like creature in the distance hadn't seemed to notice her yet - and good thing, too; it would be poor manners, even for NiGHTS, if she simply rushed into battle without at least checking with her comrades first.

Speaking of which, she wished they'd hurry up. Was it her fault everyone else always seemed to be so slow?

[identity profile] mastertemplate.livejournal.com 2011-08-22 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
The Master/Harold Saxon watched as NiGHTS continued to push her way towards the inevitable battle. He looked back at Link for a second to make sure he was following, and then quietly spouted, "You know the actual monsters are further up ahead, right? It's not like your poker face is that good." He smlied even though Link couldn't see it. "Just keep to yourself, and you won't be in my way."

His eyes continued following NiGHTS who seemed all too excited to find danger ahead. It was a good foil to all the do-gooders and the space cadets he had previously come across. He wondered if he could gather another new companion soon enough.
