Extreme Make Over: Animal Edition [Active/Open]

Content: Urd ventures out into the Pride Lands and gets an...unpleasant surprise.

Time: Week 32, night

After being in Paixao for as long as she had, Urd considered it her duty to investigate any new world that happened to open. While most people who knew the goddess knew she wasn't the most responsible or diligent, this was something she took seriously. In the wake of Xemnas' attack as well as the continued dangers her friends and loved ones faced, the sooner she could find them an exit, the better. So she flew with purpose to the newest door on what she considered an important solo mission.

But as soon as she entered, all plans and determination vanished. She stood in the Elephant Graveyard, considerably shorter, skinnier and...furrier. Urd gulped, looking down at her sleek meerkat body. She was the considerably unnatural color of royal purple, white lightening-bolt shaped stripes shocked through out. Her long-fingered hands went to her head -- her hair! Gone! And these ears...well, she still had her earrings, anyway.

"This...this is a nightmare!" she shouted in the not-quite-empty stillness of the graveyard.

Out from a pile of bones, perked the head of a hyena. It looked surprised, trying to find the source of the voice -- as her eyes finally fell on the small creature. It sounded... rather distraught.

Lifting herself out from the position she somehow got herself in, Terra attempted to get her footing, on these four-new-paws she'd found herself with, but managed to slip, causing a stack of ribs to go flying and crashing down to the ground.

Terra shook her head as she lifted herself up, now considerably closer to the meerkat after her tumble. "Are you... all right?"

Ears flicking forward at the sound of bones crashing, Urd felt the fur on her back rise up slightly in alarm. Despite her new-found meerkat instincts screaming at her to run and hide, she slowly padded toward the noise. At the sight of a hyena, she scrambled back a couple steps, tripped over her own tail and rolled on to her back. "S-Stay away! I might not look like it, but I'm a goddess, you know!"

Wait, did she even have her powers? Her physical senses were so different, everything was so different that she couldn't even get her brain to work properly. Her heart pounded in her chest as she slowly lifted her head to scowl at Terra. "If you try to eat me, I'll explode you from the inside out, I swear!"

"N-No, it's not like that!" although, she had to admit, since turning into this form, there was that undeniable urge to... search for and devour food. But she'd just eaten before coming here! And this creature... certainly wasn't for eating. It could talk, just like her! Odds were, it was another resident of the city caught in this snare that awaited them on the newest floor.

"I'm... I'm not going to eat you!" Terra attempted to reassure the... purple creature. Plus, being exploded from the inside out didn't really sound like the ideal situation. "As soon as I came here, I... I transformed. I'm not really... supposed to be like this..." she continued, looking down at the paws in front of her, her expression turning melancholy.

She still wasn't convinced at first, clenching her hands -- no, paws -- into fists. But as the hyena looked down at her paws, the dejected look on her face was so understandable, so not predatory, that Urd couldn't help but calm down. Taking a couple of hesitant steps towards Terra, she sighed. "...okay. I guess I can believe you. This took me by surprise too."

Lifting her head, she smiled slightly. "What's your name? I'm Urd."

Thank goodness. Relief seemed to wash over the hyena's features at that moment, as she approached the smaller woman, and sat on her hind legs. "Terra," her voice was small, about as small as she felt right about now. "I didn't think something like this would happen so suddenly, after stepping onto the new floor..." she admitted.

"Um..." she seemed hesitant to ask what came next... "you haven't... seen anyone else in the area, have you? After arriving, I mean."

Urd sighed, folding her arms under her -- she froze, looking down at her flat furry chest with an exaggerated expression of the deepest sorrow before looking up at Terra as if nothing was wrong. "I should have expected this. Halloween Town had the same sort of affect on people. Something in the dimensional make-up can shift us, allowing us greater understanding of the world around us."

She turned her head and looked out over the bones surrounding them. "I only just arrived. You're the first person I've met." She blinked, slanting a suspicious glance her way. "You are a person, right? Originally?"

Silently, Terra was grateful she hadn't said 'human.' But she could feel something as well -- from this Urd. It wasn't exactly human either... Goddess had she said? Like Cosmos, perhaps...?

She nodded in response. "Yes, when I came here suddenly... I became -- " she looked down at herself again, "like this." The hyena frowned, as much as a hyena could frown, "I came here with someone. But once that force took hold of me, I... lost track of him. I hoped you'd perhaps seen him..."

"Force? What force?" Urd frowned as she stretched up her long body to peer closer into Terra's eyes, her earrings jangling with the motion. "I haven't seen him, but we'll find him together. Are you alright, though? You're not feeling...off?" She chuckled under her breath, raising an eyebrow. "I mean, other than the whole hyena thing."

"That strange feeling," she tried to explain, silently wishing she was better at this sort of thing, "That turned me into this... a hyena... is that what it's called?" Unfortunately, she had never seen paws or markings of the like that were currently staring back at her where hands and feet used to be. She hadn't had the luxury of seeing her own reflection quite yet...

"Walking... is a little strange. But other than that -- " she shook her head, indicating nothing else seemed to be wrong. "There are... many strange smells that I'm picking up on though..."

She turned to the meerkat and tilted her head. "You're -- all right, too?"

She sighed, relieved. For a moment, Urd was concerned Darkness had come into play. There were so many dangerous forces around here, you couldn't be too careful. "Mm. Me too. I'm used to sensing things humans wouldn't normally, but this is still a new experience for me." She frowned, screwing her eyes shut tight as she tried to access her goddess programming -- she could feel it still, buried under the animal instincts and heightened physical senses. If she could just...focus...

"Urgh," Urd muttered, falling backwards onto the dusty ground. It felt like the world was spinning!

Strange. The way that she kept mentioning humans so nonchalantly. Terra could sense something about Urd too, but, clearly didn't want to appear impolite in asking about it right off the bat.

When she closed her eyes though, a puzzle look crossed over the girl, as she took a half step closer, surpried when the small creature fell backwards. "Are you all right?" she was quick to ask, "You didn't start to feel strange again, did you?"

"Y-you could say that," Urd said flatly, staring up at the night sky blearily. "Look, I need you to do me a favor, okay? Look close at my head. Do I still have triangle markings on my face?" She pointed at her new meerkat face and, as it turned out, she did in fact still have her facial markings. Still laying on her back, she nervously awaited Terra's answer.

She approached the meerkat cautiously, peering over her from her spot on the ground. "Yes. I see three of them," she reported back, able to study the animal up close now. She really was pretty small... it was hard to imagine what she'd look like once she was back to normal.

Well, that was a relief. It meant what she already suspected -- she was still a goddess, even in this form. Her powers were still accessible. It was just a matter of how to access them. Urd sighed, heaving back up on to her feet and climbing up Terra to perch on her back. "Okay...things aren't as bad as I first thought, then. Let's look for your friend first and then figure out what to do."

'Her friend' wasn't lost, he just got left behind in the confusion and was taking forever to catch up. That's what happens when you're suddenly barely six inches tall, and have to learn to walk on all fours. Like Urd, the Onion Knight had also turned into a meerkat, a baby one, in fact, to reflect his young age. Though, inexplicably, he was still wearing his helm.

"Terra!" He called out as he ran through the graveyard, hoping she hadn't ran too far.

She was surprised to find the small creature climbing up her... though she couldn't exactly blame Urd, either, and so she didn't protest. She looked upwards even though the goddess was pretty much hidden from her line of sight, and nodded slightly, careful not to use too much force behind the motion.

"Right. I wonder where we should -- " Terra's musing was abruptly cut short as she heard her name come from... somewhere. "Wait... Did you hear that?"

Urd stood on her hind legs, sniffing the air. Oh, she heard that, alright. And smelled it to. Earrings jangling as her ears swiveled forward, she pushed down on Terra's head slightly. "Yeah! Over there! It's...I think it's another meerkat. Like me." She bent forward to peer upside down at Terra.

"Let's hope it's your friend and not something pretending to be."

As the Onion Knight was running he tripped over... something, likely his won feet, and was sent tumbling closer to the two animals in the graveyard. The visor of his helm falling over his eyes.

Terra whipped her head in the direction of the clamour, just in time to see a small ball of... something come to a halt just up ahead. Of course, she immediately recognized the helm, tiny as it was. "It's him!" Perhaps it was a bit hasty of her, but she threw caution to the wind, sure that it had to be him.

The hyena did her best to form some sort of smile... revealing rows of sharp teeth in the process as she approached, nose first, trying to make a little more sense of 'following her nose.'

"Augh! W-Wait!" Urd cried out and held on for dear life as Terra turned her head. In the process of struggling to maintain her balance and grip, she unfortunately couldn't warn her that full-frontal hyena teeth were not exactly the most friendly lead in to a conversation with a meerkat.

His ears twitched at the sound of Terra's voice. He readjusted his visor and looked up to see... a very large animal with many sharp looking teeth. He cried out in fear and scrambled to his feet. He pulled out his sword, which was the size of one of those cocktail toothpicks and pointed it at the animal's nose.

"L-leave me alone," He said, the fear very obvious in his voice, "Go find your dinner somewhere else."

"Huh?" she hadn't even thought about it... and instead, rushed right in. Now she found herself on the sharp end of a... safety pin? Not that it would have done much damage, but seeing it pointed at her was disheartening. It certainly hadn't been Terra's intention to scare him... "No that's not... It's me," she admitted, looking down, embarrassed. "Terra."

Urd slid down Terra's side and landed on all fours on the ground, quickly moving into the little meerkat's line of sight. "It's alright! She won't eat you!" Frankly, she doubted he was even aware of her presence in the wake of such a shocking sight, so she popped her head right in front of his.

"She's in a different form, but she's still your friend."

The Onion Knight jumped when Urd popped up right in front of him. He lowered his sword and looked from the purple thing to the animal that was claiming to be Terra. It had her voice, that's for sure. He walked closer to her so he could get a good look at her eyes. Her soft, kind, purple-blue eyes.

"Terra? What happened?"

Her new body rose and fell with a faint sigh of relief. Thank goodness Urd had taken the reigns there, otherwise she was sure she'd have had a heck of a time trying to convince the young knight of anything...

"This is Urd," she nodded in the purple meerkat's direction, "she said... the same thing happened on another floor. The dimensional make up it... changes us..."

"Don't quote me on that though," Urd chimed in, folding her arms and frowning. "To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how this happens, but some floors will change us to help us adapt to our surroundings. I think it's only a temporary thing -- I hope it is, anyway." She scowled at the very thought of being a meerkat forever.

She stepped away from the two, looking around the dark and dusty graveyard. "...we should get out of here. I have a bad feeling about this place." Something else was in the shadows, something she sensed with divine senses rather than her nose.

"Oh." Well, the Knight supposed that made sense, if a world wasn't populated with humans, then a bunch of people walking around would be really suspicious, yet at the same time, the Knight had to wonder what the point was.

"A bad feeling? What do you mean?" He asked, looking up at the taller meerkat.

Terra closed her eyes for a moment... trying to tune into the energy of the world around her. "... She's right," the girl admitted, opening her eyes again and looking over the area with a new sense of urgency. "Something... just doesn't feel right. We should go," she looked behind them, trying to search the darkness for the cause of her uneasiness.

There it was again, the feeling that made her fur stand up on end. Urd slowly turned, watching the shadows around them. "It's..." But before she could finish, the shadows on the dusty ground shifted, sliding toward them and forming into a solid mass. Dozens of yellow eyes glowed all around them.

"Heartless!" Urd gasped, leaping back. She held out her paw, electricity crackling around it briefly before her power seemed to short-circuit. She went to her knees as vertigo made the world spin around her.

"Don't...let them touch you...!"

The Onion Knight drew his sword, mostly out of habit, because he knew that at this size it would be completely worthless. He looked at the tiny sword in his hand, then at the approaching Heartless.

He held his sword out and yelled, "Singe," and a large ball of fire launched in an arc out to where the Heartless were and exploded, though the Knight was sent tumbling back from the force of the spell.

"Ah -- !" as the heartless began to sprout, Terra spun around, taking note of their locations. Her attention was drawn back to Urd as she crumpled, then shot towards the knight as he attacked. She took a half step forward, attempting to protect the meerkat goddess. "Are you all right? Stay behind us!"

And then suddenly, tiny helm and all, there went the young boy, reeling back from the force of his magic. "Oh no..." she breathed softly, feeling helpless for a moment. Her magic had always been so readily available, her powers easy to tap into, but in this form, she felt herself struggling... trying to find that spark...

Urd gasped as she struggled to her hind paws just in time to watch the Onion Knight get blown backwards. "Terra! Don't worry about me, support the kid!" No matter what form they were in, she was still a goddess and less likely to die from something like this. In that tiny, fragile form, the little knight might not make it if they weren't careful. But his power was accessible -- and such power! If Terra could keep him on his feet, they might all just stand a chance.

She lifted her paws up to the sky and closed her eyes, gritting her teeth. All she had to do was focus...and there it was, the familiar pull of power. A bolt of lightening arced down into the mass of Heartless, scattering them. But the spell left her breathless and dizzy once more and she went to all fours, squeezing her eyes shut.
