Center Of The World [Completed]
Character(s): Lady, Dante, Kanda Yuu
Content: Lady and Dante arrive in the central Actua Are, only to run into one very stubbornroadblock Exorcist.
Setting: Central Paixao and its Actua Are
Time: Thursday evening
Warnings: none so far
Most of the day was devoted to walking. It may have been a few inches on the map, but it was a long haul from the mighty gate of Vanaheim to the city’s center. And all along the way, the same patterns continued. Not a real tree to be seen, though the ones that were around were pretty neat to look at. There were no dogs playing in the streets or lazy cats laying on porches. No animals at all. That was weird in itself. There were statues, but they didn’t do justice to their subjects.
There was nothing living in the city, aside from the people. And even they were questionable. Many seemed vapid, happy in whatever world they were in. How else could there be such smiles in such a place? For that matter, how could people be happy about being here? Who would even come voluntarily?! Dante hadn’t seen hide nor hair of anything that would draw people here in droves. And yet they were everywhere.
The city center was disappointing. It was far from the flashy metropolis Dante had imagined. (Like they could have fit a metropolis in the domes anyway!) Still, it was better than the section they’d walked through. Each step towards the city brought trees made of higher quality materials and more accurate portrayals in the animal statues. The buildings grew more detailed and decorated. Businesses appeared. They were finally getting somewhere!
The grand hotel wasn’t that grand, but it would do. Dante wondered about the currency exchange, but the hotel clerk was more than happy to relieve him of his money. He bought two separate rooms for a few days. They could always be renewed if they needed to stay longer. He hoped they wouldn’t have to.
Dante tossed Lady a room key. “This should be a bit better than that O Pastor place you were telling me about.” ‘Or at least it should be, what with how much I paid!’ “Your room’s on the first floor towards the left, and mine’s down the hall a ways to the right so you can have some privacy. Come and go as you want. I don’t care what you do.” She was, after all, quite capable of making her own schedule. “As for me, I’m going to find a restaurant. Should be one around here somewhere, what with all these people around.”

His black exorcist's coat was slung over his shoulder as he walked. As he had said before, he wasn't planning on flaunting it all over Paixao, but it was one of the few items of clothing he owned and it just so happed to have a hood. That would probably help, if he was going to be going outside. A white dress shirt and pants weren't going to keep him dry.
In his other hand, he held two of the infamous electronic journals. One, black (his own) and the other, red. The owner of the red journal wouldn't be needing it for a while, and Kanda was sorely tempted to throw it off a building.
As he came near the end of the hallway that led to the lobby, Kanda found that his path was blocked by two others- a young woman and man. They didn't look like the natives in this place, so he could assume that they were among the hundreds that were yanked into this world unwillingly. But he wasn't really in the mood to start a support club or anything, so for the moment they were just in his way.
"Move aside," he said, when he came to a stop near the two of them. With his tone of voice, it wasn't really a request, so much as an order.

Lady was pretty quiet all the way up to here. Not that she was going to be very talkative with Dante. But she was glad and everything was going to be slightly...normal. Or so she hoped. As for the hotel, at this point, the woman couldn't care less where they winded up in. Lady was going to keep track of Dante, no matter what. This was far too much of a hassle to be seperated from him. Attached? Lady? No; she assured herself probably too many times, inwardly fighting.
Casually, Lady caught the key in her leather-gloved hand, giving Dante a very apathetic look. "I'll remember that," At least she be further away from the half-demon that had to hit on EVERYTHING that moved. She wasn't missing that part of Dante...not one bit. Lady was trying to find something to lean against, and failed miserably, so she let her cannon lean against her side.
Food sounded awfully good. Like on of those nasty-ass greasy burgers she hated so much. That sounded actually tempting right about now. In response to his statement, she nodded. "Alright, but don't be gone too long..." Fading off, Lady heard someone else, her bicolor eyes glanced a younger man. Now he was defiently not from here, just by his appearance, obviously Japanese. Lady heard the order, but her face remained a ridiculous blank, hinting at her exhaustion--otherwise, she'd probably tear this guy a new one.
"I don't think so." Lady said blandly. Her temper was down...for now. But she meant it well enough. She wouldn't budge for a man, no matter what. Men...so predictable.

"Hey, kid, where'd you learn those manners?" Dante stood his ground with Lady, crossing his arms with a smirk. They efficiently blocked the hallway. "You're supposed to say 'excuse me' when you want someone to move out of the way." He shifted his weight. "I'm waiting." Toying with punks was a frequently rewarding and very fun pastime.

He noted the use of the word "kid," which made his face turn to irritation with the white-haired man, rather than simply impatience. Of course, he could tell that this guy was older than him, but he still had no right to refer to him as "kid." On a better day, Kanda might have drawled out an "excuse me" to the two of them, but with his already-building aggravation and his impromptu decision that he did not like this man, he didn't.
Glancing between the woman and man, Kanda noticed how small the woman looked when she was standing next to the taller, much larger waste of mass. Not that he had a very high opinion of most women anyways. At least, she seemed less arrogant than her companion.
"Your manners aren't exactly spectacular either. So I'd say we're even on that account," Kanda said, shifting his coat on his shoulder. He could get tired of this very quickly. "Given that, I bet you have better things to do, better people to pester. So move."
no subject
For some reason, Lady felt extra confident next to the half-demon. "We're not going to budge, Dante," She said simply, still letting her cannon rock almost. Her attention, her bicolor eyes were still on him, still having a very stoic expression. "If you had better people to pester, then take your business elsewhere, because I wouldn't yield my spot to someone who couldn't treat other people fairly. No one is going to drop their spot just for you, so why don't you step off that high horse of yours, sweetheart?"
Seriously. How dumb could someone be to pick a fight with two very well armed demon hunters?
no subject
He smiled thinly. "Besides, you didn't even say please."

With the woman adjusting her cannon, Kanda's eyes were drawn to the large weapon. He'd always disapproved of firearms, thinking them so unrefined, but he couldn't deny that they got a job done. Hers, on the other hand, seemed ridiculously large. How one could effectively use it in battle, he didn't know.
Did they think he was unarmed? Even if he was stranded in this bizarre city, he carried his blade with him everywhere because he was just so used to Mugen's presence. Dropping his hand, he slid the large coat off his shoulder and revealed the hilt of the sword fixed to his back. Of course, it would seem small in comparison to their weaponry, but it was the skill of the wielder that mattered.
"It doesn't take very much to stand aside, you know," Kanda said to the woman. He knew at this point, it wasn't really about blocking a hallway. They were just arrogant enough to start something, and Kanda was in enough of a foul mood to respond accordingly. Wrong place, wrong time.
"Spare myself some trouble?" Kanda echoed, then scoffed. "Don't flatter yourself."

And there was the sword. That also didn't matter; you could easily tell from Lady's scars and her fighting off Vergil when he tried striking her with Yamato. She rolled her bicolor eyes, now that her temper was coming to the surface. Here she wanted to use a sarcastic comment, but kept her mouth shut.
"And it certianlly doesn't take much to use some manners," Lady snapped. "It's the principal of it, sweetheart; I will not be pushed aside by some snot-nosed teenager, who thinks he can walk over anyone. I won't be pushed aside by you."
Father had to learn that the hard way, Lady reminded herself again.

Dante could have laughed. They were about to trade blows over not moving out of the way in a damn hallway. 'Not so much that, as disciplining the kid. Obviously he doesn't know power when he sees it.' Sure, in the city, anyone could be rude to Dante and he'd hardly blink. But here, in the new place where everyone was supposed to be so bland, this kid was upsetting the balance. Dante had had enough of rudeness.
"Come on, kid, give it up and go away. As much as I'm game for a fight, I think we'd totally kick your ass if it came to it." He looked the kid in the eye. "You've sure got balls, though. If you apologize, maybe I'll overlook this and we can all be on our way. It wouldn't break my heart if I never saw your ray of sunshine again."
no subject
"After that, do you think I'd apologize to people like you?" Kanda asked, with a snide laugh at Dante's suggestion. He folded his arms so that his coat was tucked into the crook of his elbow. "It's the principle of it," he said, mockingly echoing Lady's earlier words.
no subject
"I didn't say you have to apologize, I am not yielding for you!" Her trigger finger twitched, as if she wanted to hold onto her gun by saying this, but this wasn't the right time...or was it? Who knew; Lady wasn't one to keep herself calm all the time. "I won't be walked over. We're not moving..."
Lady reached for her hand gun on her back, pointing it. Her temper was now getting the better of her when she was threateningly holding at the younger man. "So get lost otherwise, you're going to be like the other demon vermin I've dealt with! I have no time for the likes of you!"
no subject
"Lady, you're not going to shoot the poor chump, are you?" he asked in mock concern, eyes widening comically. "Oh, you can't!" He covered his mouth with his hand. "Not when he hasn't even told us who he is. Apparently in Never Never Land he is a big shot." He looked coldly at the impertinent one. "Care to introduce yourself, oh bratty one, or shall I improvise the words on your marker stone? 'Poor stupid jackass who lost his life when he foolishly tried the patience of two devil hunters.' That works. Or 'He who made a better door than a window.' Or 'Failed to understand the meaning of a hallway.' Cause, you know, Lady will shoot you, and I would have to applaud her for it."
no subject
All the same, he kept his eyes on her alone, watching for any changes in body language or sudden movements. Even when the older man spoke, Kanda didn't even spare a glance in his direction.
Earlier, he might have dismissed the situation, blaming it on their egotism. But he couldn't just go and run away with a gun aimed at his back, and that insufferable man's taunts behind him. Now, he just had to work out what he was going to do.
"As amazing as your wit is," Kanda drawled, still not looking at him, "I do have a name. It's Kanda Yuu, Exorcist of the Dark Religious Order." He tried not to show any of his irritation on his face, despite having a gun in his face. "Now if you'd stop waving that gun around.."
no subject
Even if the word 'exorcist' made her twinge, before she contorted her face in a proud look. "Good for you. This Dante, son of one of the most famous demons. We're demons hunters...unlike you, we have the balls to get rid of fucking demons. I'm not dropping my gun until you back off." She spat horribly.
no subject
Dark Religious Order, eh? "You're awful aggressive for a church man. Dark Religious Order? Words I never thought would ever be put together in one sentence, unless it's some kind of cult." The damn kid still wasn't looking at him! Now that was rude. "Now, I know I'm hot stuff, but looking at me won't compromise your masculinity, I promise you." He smirked, even if it was to himself. "So you're one of the exorcists around here. I heard some of you were running around. Lady seems to think there are no demons in this place. If that's true, all of us are going to need new jobs."
no subject
"Think what you want," he said, now making more of an effort to avoid looking at Dante. Feeding his egotism was the last thing that Kanda wanted. Dante calling him 'one of the exorcists' irked him, as if they were a normal commodity, but he did not comment upon it. As for the statement on their current unemployment.. Kanda remembered what had just happened in the hotel room and fought back a scowl.
"Nice to see you've figured that out. And I was actually going to go investigate that before I got held up."
no subject
He'd remember this Kanda for a very long time.
'I'm really asking for it now, but here goes.' For the noble sake of progress, Dante put himself in front of Lady's gun, blocking her shot at Kanda. He knew Lady had no qualms about shooting him. Lady had shot him twice in the face before, after all. But, unlike Kanda, he could survive it if Lady took it upon herself to stage a repeat performance. "Lady, hey, cool it. Kid's a brat, but even he doesn't deserve to be shot. We shoot demons, not annoying pricks who block hallways."
no subject
This Dante guy might be taking what he saw as the "noble" approach, but Kanda simply saw it as a way out. As he had been thinking before, she wouldn't have actually pulled the trigger for something so minor, even if she did have an atrotious temper. So even if this demon hunter was "saving" him, Kanda didn't necessarily have to extend any respect.
"Nice to see that you're putting all that worthless mass to good use," Kanda commented, as he slipped past the two of them, using the space that Dante's movement had created. And before Lady could have second thoughts and attempt to shoot him in the back, Kanda was off down the open hallway.
no subject
Wait. Worthless mass?!?! That was some thanks for taking the heat off him!! "HEY!!!" Dante yelled after Kanda. "Asshole!!! Yeah, that's right, you'd better fucking run!!" Angrily, he looked around for something, anything, to throw after the kid, since of course he wasn't worth chasing.
Aha! The punk had left two journal things behind on one of the hallway tables.
Grinning maliciously, Dante took them up. 'Hope he won't be needing these any time soon!' "KID, YOU FORGOT SOMETHING!! HERE!!!" He pitched one of the journals as hard as he could down the hall. It hit the floor loudly and skidded for a good distance. The same fate awaited the second one. "ENJOY!!" Sure, it was incredibly immature, but it felt oh so good.
He turned and stormed past Lady. "I'll be in my room, doing my best to find a damned bar. Catch you later."
