She's got a halo around her finger [Open-ish/Active]
Character(s): Lenne! (Jecht, Yuna? ....Zim? ;D)
Content: Wormholes! And... Lenne might think she's actually in Zanarkand. DX
Setting: Zanarkand, Oblivion!Spira.
Time: Afternoon, ish.
Warnings: ....potential angst?
Lenne had taken her time re-adjusting to Paixao, and spent the last week wandering her former haunts and checking in on the network posts. She didn’t reply to anything, but felt better knowing what was going on around her.
She woke up that day, noting nothing extraordinary in the air around her, it was just another day, she assumed. That was her first mistake. Upon opening the door, she let out a shrill shriek, and was pulled into a wormhole… and just when she’d escaped, there’d been another… and another…. Until, completely exhausted, she’d been dropped into three feet of snow in a chilly mountain pass. She would have been content to just lay there, afraid of being turned inside out from another excursion into the unknown just by taking a few steps… but it was frigid.
She caught sight of a path and pulled herself out of the snow bank to follow it, starting to jog a bit just to warm up. She followed the path for what she judged to be a mile, maybe a little more… and stopped when she came to an overview of the horizon ahead of her. It could not possibly be… but it was. There before the fallen songstress was Zanarkand. It felt like hours but was merely minutes she stood, literally and figuratively frozen. She’d been taken home, finally… and it was in ruins.
With what courage and strength she could muster, she continued down the path, until eventually she arrived just outside the city, where she couldn’t manage to force herself to continue any further.

As she came to the city's edge, the path she was running along veered sharply upward, climbing the steep mountain up to the mouth of Gagazet's peak. Yuna didn't make it that far. She slowed down halfway to the entrance, noticing a strangely familiar woman standing in front of the city. Dropping down to a walk, Yuna shaded her eyes, squinting so she could see better.
"...Lenne?" she called, wondering if her eyes were betraying her.
no subject
...And if Yuna was there, this could not possibly be her Zanarkand. That both comforted the songstress and broke her heart even deeper.
She tried to smile, but the effort it took made it very weak.
"That's me," she managed to call back.
no subject
"It's nice to see you again," she told Lenne honestly. "I didn't know you were back."
Dramatic entrance, go!
Destiny Islands was...by far the worst..being dropped in the ocean and all, but the last and most recent time he was dropped from a wormhole. Quite literally, too. Some yards off from the two ladies, Zim fell a whole twenty feet from the air, kicking and screaming until hitting the ground with a prominent 'thud.'
"Ugh--stupid..what's wrong with this..can't even believe.." He grumbled under his breath, trailing off as he lied there.
no subject
"It's nice to see you, too," she greeted in turn. Her mouth was open to explain that she really hadn't been back long, when a wormhole opened a fair distance from them, and out dropped a screaming, flailing creature. That couldn't be a fiend... could it?
"What... is that?" Lenne asked Yuna quietly, turning to her.
SORRY SO SLOW
But the creature lying on the ground muttering and making noises wasn't moving towards them to attack. Yuna glanced at Lenne and shrugged. "I don't know." She paused, wondering what to do. "I'll go look."
Sticking one of her guns back in its holster at her hip, she took a few slow steps toward the creature. If it didn't get up before she got there, she'd kneel down next to it and try to turn it over.
Awkward situation escape wormhole is go? DX
"It seems to be alright... relatively," Lenne observed out loud, unable to discern the mutterings. It had taken quite a fall, but still seemed to be alive and relatively unharmed, all things considered. How peculiar. She had just placed her hand on Yuna's shoulder, bracing herself to bend over, possibly reach out to the creature and offer it a hand... when it happened.
The now familiar sensation of being sucked into a vacuum started to pull at her, and she had almost enough presence of mind to swear her frustration, and tried to shove Yuna away from her, not wishing to drag her through the agony of the wormhole that had just opened up beneath her feet.
This was going to be a long day.
Zim is welcome to wormhole it up with them later, too!
Yuna had just managed to kneel down next to the creature - person? - when she felt Lenne's push against her side. Wheeling around instinctively, Yuna drew her guns in an effort to protect her friend from what she thought was a fiend-
-And instead found herself falling through the same wormhole thing that Lenne was falling into. The sensation was nothing like anything Yuna had ever experienced and she tucked herself into a little ball to avoid hitting anything on her way. She just hoped she wouldn't land somewhere particularly painful when she did manage to get out of whatever this was.
But of course~...forgot to mention that. DX <3!
"Well, some things haven't changed."
♥
Lenne's voice called her back and Yuna slowly sat up, rubbing her elbows. "That hurt," she pouted, glancing at the other girl. It looked like they'd landed in Macalania. Hm. "At least we didn't land up on Mount Gagazet?"
no subject
She couldn't help a quiet, sarcastic chuckle at Yuna's last observation. "It's a little chilly this time of year," she agreed, smiling softly, knowing full well the seasons had no effect on it. She was very glad, indeed, that she hadn't ended up there, again.
Macalania was very much welcomed, in comparison, though she'd never been able to explore the woods as much as she would have liked. There was an eerie beauty to the place, and she fell silent again, just trying to take it all in.
no subject
"Hopefully we won't find another one of those. I don't want to end up in the snow."
Because snow was cold and neither of them were wearing a whole lot.
"How have you been? It feels like it's been so long since we've seen each other."
no subject
"I've never seen such an expert wardrobe change," she complimented, her tone definitely curious as to what exactly had just happened.
"It's not an experience I'm eager to repeat," she agreed. She was not a fan of snow to begin with, and much less without proper garb. Avoiding the wormholes was a given, at this point.
And there was the question she'd been expecting, and the one she was the least sure of the answer. "I... have been fine, I suppose," she answered as truthfully as possible. "And you? It seems that so much has changed here, and that so much time had passed, but it feels like I was just here."
no subject
She nodded to the comment about Gagazet and snow, knowing she wasn't too keen on being dropped up there, either. "I... a lot has happened since you've been gone, but..." She offered a bright, genuine smile. "I'm glad you're back. We never really got a chance to talk before. Maybe we can do that now."
no subject
Lenne didn't like the sound of her assumptions being confirmed by Yuna's change of subject. Obviously much that had happened had not been for the best, but Yuna seemed to be alright, even better than when she'd left, actually, so she remained optimistic. And decided she'd pry later.
"I would like that," she agreed with a genuine smile. "Seems like we have the time, now," she added with a light laugh. "Shall we take a walk?" she suggested with an ever-growing grin, motioning up the sparkling path that led into the forest's canopy.
no subject
The smile grew warmly at Lenne's final words and Yuna nodded. "Yeah. I'd like that, too." She turned up the path, towards the branch that would lead to the Travel Agency before something occurred to her. "Oh, there are still fiends here. Are you okay to fight?"
no subject
"Besides, with your killer wardrobe, I'm sure you can make up for my rusty skills," she added with a grin, elbowing the other girl playfully.
no subject
"Um... but I have a request, if that's okay?"
Of all the things she knew were possible, she still didn't want to visit Shiva's temple at Macalania. She didn't want to know if that fayth still resided there or if there was a giant hole in the middle instead.
no subject
"Anything." Lenne couldn't figure what Yuna would ask, but she knew it must be important to her if she felt the need to mention it.
no subject
"I don't want to see the temple. It's okay if you want to go in. I'll stay outside and wait."
She paused to put her thoughts to words. It was so hard to think of the temples as anything other than the way they'd always been, but she knew what they'd become. And she didn't want to see them like that again.
"Remiem Temple is different. The Magus Sisters were there, but... I don't want to know if Shiva's fayth is still there or not. If you do go in and something happens... I'll come help."
But she didn't want to find out herself.
no subject
"These woods are large enough to wander, or we can explore other places, if you'd like. I really don't want to see any more ruins of what I remember so perfectly whole in my mind," she added after a moment, voice quieter, but once again choosing to be open with the only person she'd ever met that she knew would understand. A few moments passed, and an idea suddenly formed, causing a smile to sparkle all the way to Lenne's eyes.
"Well, I don't know about you, but I could go for a fight right now," she announced with a chuckle, her features suddenly brightening in a mischievous way that could only lead to trouble.
no subject
"It is... just a dream," she answered, glancing around at the woods, "but I don't want to find out if it's my dream or not. I don't want to know if they've brought in the path through the Farplane to Vegnagun or if it's just-"
She stopped short, realizing too late that she'd said too much. There weren't many ways to get out of this one, but she would try anyway. If Lenne wanted to talk about it, she'd answer, but it wouldn't be a pleasant discussion.
"Well, there were fiends last time I was here." Fighting might help them both.
no subject
After a few painful moments, Lenne decided she really didn't want to know.
And let it go.
For now.
And immediately falling back on old coping mechanisms, Lenne turned her attention to the first thought that would distract her. At Yuna's lack of objection to finding a fight, she kept her convincing smile, and would remain in denial just as long as she could manage. "Well, let's see if we can't coax a few out to play, hmm?" and she started back up the path, fingers just itching to cast a spell at the first fiend that dared appear. She needed to destroy something before she had too much time to think.
no subject
Looking away, she quickly latched onto the subject of fighting, nodding strongly and pushing everything else out of the way. "There were wasps here when I came with Sir Jecht and Sir Auron."
She blinked a little when she realized she'd called them by their guardian titles. She really must've been nervous.
no subject
"Hmm, wasps will hardly be a match for the pair of us~" Lenne stated with confidence, any trace of her inner thoughts completely masked. "But we've gotta start somewhere. C'mon, I think I hear something up ahead!" And the songstress was off running up the path toward what she hoped to be a fiend, longing for the cleansing adrenaline rush.
[ooc: good god, I fail; sorry for being so slow, babe. DX Also, I totally suck at NPCing in general, so, maybe we can share any kind of fiend activity? DX]
Fine with me! also ♥
Lenne's statement brought a small smile to Yuna's lips and she nodded, trying to push everything behind her. They were here to talk.
"Right!" she answered, pulling out her guns and following. Sure enough, a chimera was walking nearby, turning towards them as they approached. "Let's do this!"
It took the first shot, aiming Aqua Breath at the two of them. Yuna gritted her teeth and riddled the thing with bullets, using Trigger Happy to show it who was boss!
no subject
Adrenaline rushing to the surface, her face was set in a hard mask as she began a dance. It was a simple one she knew by heart, and soon enough, she could tell that the beast, though trying to resist, was having great difficulty casting any of its spells. A grin tugged at the corners of her lips, and after a moment, her heart was in it.
"Think you can handle being the muscle?" she asked Yuna with a grin, baiting her even though she was completely confident in the skill of her companion.
no subject
Gritting her teeth again, she unloaded another round of Trigger Happy into the creature's stomach, hoping to take it down at least a little bit. If this didn't help enough, she figured a couple of punches with the Mascot dressphere would take it down a few notches.
no subject
As soon as her song was finished, which was only a matter of seconds, the songstress picked up her dance again, once more rendering the fiend to silence. If the fight continued more than another round, she'd cease the dancing and cast a few spells, herself.
no subject
The Chimera attacked again, but this time Yuna barely even blinked. The fluffy moogle suit took the worst of the damage, practically absorbing it. Yuna returned with a punch straight to the creature's face. Another one like that should down it.
"One more round, I think!" she called back to Lenne, ready to be done with this thing.
no subject
"Alright, that's impressive," she stated, her tone added the apology she owed. When Yuna confirmed the chimera was nearly defeated, her feet slowed her dance and she took a knew stance. She raised her arms to the sky, then brought them down with a ferocity that was echoed in her voice as she called out, "THUNDER!" with a nearly wicked glee. The lightning cracked, hitting its mark dead center and setting the fiend stumbling back, its defeat imminent.
no subject
The chimera fell on its face, dissolving into a bunch of pyreflies. Yuna grinned, sticking one hand in the air as the other took off her moogle head so she could see Lenne better. A few seconds later, the outfit shimmered and she was back in her Gunner outfit.
"Sorry. I should've warned you," Yuna apologized with a smile.
no subject
Lenne grinned then and approached her fellow Spiran, stopping a moment to admire the shift between spheres, shaking her head as she laughed for a moment. "I wonder if I'll ever get used to that," she stated after Yuna seemed to be back to "normal."
"It's definitely impressive, your dresspheres," she added, hands clasped behind her back. "What else can you do with them?" Lenne asked, potentially prying, but her curiosity had just about taken over.
{ooc: OH GOD I'M SO SORRY SO SLOW DX}
no subject
And she was so grateful hers was just a fuzzy moogle.
"It took me a long time to get used to. Do you want to see the others? I haven't found all of them, but a lot of them came. Only two of my spheregrids, though." Which made her wonder where the rest were. It was odd to think about them hanging around in space, or being toyed with by the Organization.
no subject
"I'm sorry, I don't want you to feel like I've put you on the spot," she apologized. She wanted to ask who Paine was, and if Yuna had been searching for her other spheres and... spheregrids, whatever those may be. So many questions, but as close as she felt to Yuna, she knew that by asking those questions, in turn she would be obligated to answer Yuna's. And at that moment, she was determined to keep most of herself safely locked away.
no subject
"I have two garmentgrids here," she continued, pulling out one to show. It was bulky and strange to look at, but she knew it worked and that was what mattered. "Megiddo and Supreme Light. I like Supreme Light the best, but they're both useful."
Starting on the Gunner dressphere on Supreme Light, tucking the grids back in her pouch, she switched quickly to Lady Luck. "This one's called Lady Luck. I didn't design it." Thank goodness. Though Yuna thought she at least would've had better fashion sense. "It just uses a lot of reels."
no subject
She eyed the garment grids suspiciously at first, but as Yuna started to show her, they began to make more sense. Technology was a fascinating thing.
The songstress couldn't help the crooked smile that curved her lips when Yuna appeared in the Lady Luck dressphere. "Honestly, that outfit could do nothing but dispense cigars, and it would automatically be my favorite," Lenne stated with a laugh. "I wish I'd thought of it," she added, hoping belatedly she wasn't making Yuna uncomfortable. Lenne was accustomed to being "admired", though not truly immune, but Yuna seemed to be more... conservative, in spite of her usual garb. "Do the clothes appear differently depending on who is using the sphere?"
no subject
"Yes, they do," she answered. "Rikku and Paine's are different. The style of the outfit is similar, but the colors are different. Rikku favors bright colors and Paine's always a darker tone." Whereas Yuna favored mid-tones. And that was how it had always been and likely always would be. Yuna was fine with it.
Deciding to continue the show and tell, she swapped to the next dressphere in the grid, bypassing Mascot, since Lenne had already seen it. "This one's the Black Mage dressphere. You can guess what it's good at. I like to pretend I'm Lulu sometimes. She was always better at Black Magic than I was."
no subject
Lenne admired the shift once again, and even moreso the next outfit. She couldn't imagine dresspheres ever losing their appeal to her. "Black magic is hard to perfect, not to mention draining, even to a pro," Lenne offered, smiling softly. Black magic had always eluded her, drained her even more than summoning. She'd always hold a deep respect for those who could master it without being controlled in return. "I'm sure you're at least twice as good at it as you think you are," she assured Yuna with a wink.
no subject
Swapping garment grids a moment later, she ended up choosing the White Mage dressphere first. "I think I've used this one the most," she admitted, adjusting the long sleeves. "It's very warm, but it also reminds me of the time when I was a summoner. White magic and the aeons were everything to me."
no subject
"You were a summoner?" It felt very strange to say it in the past tense. "No wonder I felt so close to you right away," Lenne wondered aloud, still smiling, but steeling herself to ask the next question, another painful question, as she pieced together all of the bits and little clues Yuna had shared so far.
"What happened that you no longer consider yourself a summoner?" Surely the aeons were not lost in the war? The Fayth? What could have destroyed such a power? ...And did she really want to know? Lenne kept any accusation from her tone, finally willing to know a little more about what her world had become, even if she wasn't ready to know everything.
no subject
Looking back up, Yuna tilted her head just a little. "It's a long story, and not exactly a very happy one, but... I'll tell you if you want to hear it. Maybe... it'll help you understand me, too."
no subject
"I want to understand you, to understand what happens to my world... I need a reason to go back. I don't expect you to give me all of that, but... whatever you want to tell me, I will be grateful."
no subject
"It's okay. It's better now... easier. But it won't be easy for you to hear, either." She took a deep breath. "I know you're from my past. A thousand years ago-" Well, really a thousand and two by now, but who was really counting? "-there was a war between the summoners of Zanarkand and the machina of Bevelle. Bevelle won. Zanarkand... and its summoners were completely destroyed. That's why the Zanarkand here is in ruins. That's what the rest of us remember. Out of that war... came Sin, our eternal punishment."
no subject
Finally her face cracked just half a smile, as her defenses kicked in a for a brief moment. "Ironic that it would be called Sin," she managed, shaking her head. "What became of your aeons?" she asked more quietly. Lenne couldn't claim them just yet, she knew for fact she could still summon them in Paixao, and imagining them gone, just... hurt more than she could put to words.
