Dumped for oneself; or, many reunions in a day [active]

Character(s): Gwen and Vyers, Laharl later, and Flonne
Content: A LOVING, MOST TOUCHING REUNION! .... actually it's probably mostly failsauce for Vyers what else is new? and Gwen writing him off as coincidence... Then an actual touching reunion with Laharl.
Setting: Muspelheim gate area to Vyers' crammed apartment
Time: Week 25, afternoon and into the evening
Warnings: failboat!Vyers, timeskips here and there? XD

Gwen stays hovering around a bench in the gate area, the journal clasped between her hands and held before her. This place pulled people from different places and times, she had been told, and that it wasn't the Netherworld. Paixao fitted into something new, then. But Laharl was here - the older, Overlord Laharl whom she met first. That meant... she did succeed in her spell. She could be at ease now, knowing that Laharl survived and grew up... and the intervention of this place didn't manage to fracture any sort of timeline.

She waits, for who Laharl referred to as "the weirdo." Gwen isn't entirely sure how she feels about him. A gentleman, yes, but she has an inkling reminder of Krichevskoy from his personality and... it bothered her. She couldn't even explain why it bothered her. Krichevskoy was certainly unique, but... So instead, she pushes away the thoughts, filing them under "coincidence" and moving on.

And so, she waits.

Vyers' excitement is mixed with dread as he approaches the gate, and there are many times where he has simply stopped in his tracks and nearly turned around to go straight back to the apartment. She is here again, a fact that makes him completely overjoyed and terrified at the same time, but she doesn't recognize him at all, which makes the situation extremely awkward.

And really, he hasn't felt so awkward in a long, long time. Vyers supposes he should be happy that she is so devoted to him, but at the same time, it is embarrassing to have been brushed off so easily. He wants to be with her and hold her and yet he must keep his distance. He supposes he could tell her the truth, who he is, and yet that would mean explaining things he would rather not explain. That he is dead. That he reincarnated. The circumstances surrounding his death. Perhaps even nearly dying again and the decision he had to make during that time. He doesn't want to subject her to that knowledge, and he isn't even sure he would be able to say it to her.

Vyers shoves down his hesitance and continues walking and his heart skips a beat as he sees her there, waiting in front of the gate. His throat is suddenly dry and he freezes in place before forcing his limbs to move. "Ahhh, you see? I said that I would be here shortly," he says to her with a grin. It barely reaches his eyes, and even saying those words feels painful somehow.

That smile... How he has missed seeing that smile. It suits her perfectly--it always has. A little more happiness reaches his eyes and before he can stop himself, he wags his finger with a wink. "But of course," he practically sings. "I would not lie to such a pretty face."

He only realizes what he has said after he says it and with a faint blush and cough, he turns his gaze elsewhere. "F, Forgive me. I imagine that was out of line." She is married, after all. To the one who is both the luckiest and unluckiest man.

Is it odd to be jealous of oneself?

He can't help but wince a bit at her tone, and he has to fight hard to resist the urge to curl up somewhere for awhile. He knows he should be more careful with his words, but it's just so difficult. "I know not whether this is out of line as well, but if you need a place to stay, you may stay with me? Laharl and Miss Flonne should be coming to stay when they return. Space is, ah, rather limited at the moment, but you are welcome to take my room if you wish."

[identity profile] mysterious-moi.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"...When I leave it to you, my room will be available?" he replied, the statement turning out more like an embarrassed question. "There are quite a few people living there now, you see. Many of the other rooms are taken. Mm... I still need to figure out where Laharl and Flonne are to stay." The last part was said to himself.

And, of course, he needed to figure out where he would sleep as well.

Both his pride and grin return at her statement, and he doesn't even bother to mention that the acquirement of guests was not even remotely his idea. The fact that she has decided to stay with him is more than enough, and everything in between can hopefully be smoothed over at a later point in time. Hopefully.

"Excellent!" he cries, perhaps more eagerly than he should. "I will show you the way, then. It is not too far from here."

Vyers nods and begins walking in the direction of the condo, feeling more and more awkward the longer they walked. A few times he opens his mouth to say something, but then immediately shut it again, worrying that it would end up being wrong somehow. After awhile, his shoulders slump, a rather undignified pout appearing on his face. A look that better fit a chastised child than an adult demon.

"There should be, yes, if everyone has not already..." He trails off as he turns to look back at her. There is something off, that much he can tell, and it unnerves him to see her this way. "Are you all right?" he asks, his voice suddenly serious and full of worry.

Vyers frowns. "Mmmmmn... It is more than that, isn't it?" He moves to her side and starts to put a hand on her shoulder, but hesitates and slowly he drops his hand back to his side. "Are you certain you will be all right?" There is fear in his voice, and for a moment he wonders if he will lose her again so soon.

She doesn't have to finish her sentence for him to know, but most of all that "yet" bothers him. If there is some way for him to help her... They had managed to bring him once again back from the brink of death, had they not? Perhaps such a thing is possible with her. He would like there to be. All of this worrying... Vyers isn't sure how long he would be able to take it.

There is a hint of disbelief, but also hope in his voice as he responds with a quiet "If you are sure."

She looked as though she were about to pull away before, and he is glad, in a way, that he found the strength to stop himself. But still... being unable to touch her, to comfort her... And yet, after having gone through what she had, he still cannot bring himself to say it. To tell her "You have succeeded, but you have lost your husband?" Even if he was still here in front of her... He wonders if she would even believe.

Vyers turns around so that Gwen will not see his face. "Ah... If you are unwell, we should hurry there."

Gwen's laugh tugs him out of his thoughts, if only a little. He cannot say he is entirely cheered, but he is in a little better state than he was before. He has missed that laugh, even if he knows that it doesn't always mean that things are right. "I would be more than happy to give it," he replies with a soft smile, but he still can't bring himself to turn around just yet. The fear has not quite left him

Knowing could be such a burden. After all, if being unable to say anything now could hurt so much, he could only imagine what she had gone through all those years. And with so much else to see.

He wonders how she could possibly have stood it, but she was always stronger than him.

But he could act, and so he finally puts on a mask, looking back at her with a bright grin and another playful wink. "I am more than certain you will find moi's abode to your liking, mademoiselle."

Vyers chuckled to himself his mood improving again. He wondered if using that act before was a good idea, but there was little he could do about it now. "I should hope so. I would not want to disappoint."

It is an uncomfortable silence that hangs over them, and one that Vyers does not know how to break. She seems distant somehow, or preoccupied, and he cannot blame her for either. But soon they are in front of the building and he turns to her with a smile, this one more gentle than his previous ones.

"We are here. It is up a few flights of steps, but not too far. The fourth floor.

Making him worry less is an idea easier said than done, and he takes a step when she puts her hand against the building, worried she is going to stumble. "Do you need help getting up the stairs?" he asks. He hates seeing her look so weak.
