Bonding Time [Active]

Character(s): Simba, Kovu and Kiara
Content: Secret hunting time!
Setting: Destiny Islands
Time: Early Morning
Warnings: Hunting? XD

After meeting with Simba, it had taken the three of them lot of trouble to truly figure out just where exactly they had to go to get to this other island. Getting there rather defied anything logical to the lioness' mind.

Kiara just could not wrap her mind around how they could have gone through such a strange cave (it was still her best description of the odd dwellings the humans lived in) to end up, well, where-ever this was. It was so different from the place they'd been before. Far more warm and sunny. The sand felt real beneath her paws and the smells smelt... real. Everything seemed more real here. Maybe it was too soon to say, but she already preferred this place to where they'd been; that Paixao place.

Still, it was nothing like home.

At least some of her 'home' was right here with her. She just hoped she wouldn't make them regret having her along. She hadn't been able to practice much of what Kovu had tried to teach her and even then, their last lesson had been interrupted. But that's why she was coming along, right? For them both to help teach her more.

The sights and smells of the island were almost lost on Kovu. Talking to Simba on the journals had been weird enough, but actually walking with him was just way too awkward. Simba even looked a lot younger here, maybe even younger than Kovu himself was.

It. Was. Weird.

The whole time, Kovu had hardly spoken a word. He'd lagged behind Kiara and her father the whole way, never taking his eyes off the ground.

Simba had kept a bit of information to himself when he had remembered that someone had told him about the human-cave-thing that led to other worlds. That person, or rather, that lion, had been Scar. He wasn't too worried about that though, as he was sure he, Kovu, and Kiara could take him down if they had to.

Besides, the important thing about today was having fun, even though they had gotten lost more than a few times on their way to the island that was just on the other side of a door, and that Kovu was being less than helpful. Simba just hoped that the guy would cheer up.

Simba had yet to see the ocean, and the sight was pretty awesome. The sand was warm under his paws, and the air had a different smell to it, and it just made him more excited. He was glad to get away from Vyer's place and Timon, and now he had a chance to act like a real lion and go out hunting. Hopefully, he wouldn't be too rusty, but he was confident that he'd be able to pick up the skills he needed to succeed.

So far, Simba couldn't smell anything that could possibly be prey. He turned to Kovu, who he knew had the most experience out of all of them. "Where do you think we should look first? This place doesn't seem very big, but we might be able to find something."

Oh, great. Kovu had thought Simba would at least know something. "Wait...neither of you knows how to hunt?"

But it did take away some of the awkwardness he was feeling, and Kovu had to chuckle a little. "Then just watch the master." He sniffed the air, then looked in the direction of the water and sniffed again. That...was a weird smell. But it was definitely something that smelled like it could be food, and it was in the water.

He went running straight off into the water from the strange...wooden...thing, and made a huge splash. A few seconds later, he walked back onto the shore with a big, cocky grin, and a thing trying to flop around in his mouth.

Simba frowned. Of course he knew how to hunt! He just hadn't done it much at all for a pretty long time. It wasn't his fault Timon put him on an all-insect diet.

He rolled his eyes as he watched Kovu bound into the water and come back with a fish. "I thought we were going hunting. I don't think that really counts." Simba didn't mind the water. Actually, he was quite fond of swimming. He had just expected to find something to actually chase.

Kovu let the thing flopping around in his mouth fall onto the sand, and twitched with some annoyance at Simba. "All right, oh fearless leader, you go find something for us to chase. At least that was still fun."

He knew that his "clever" little quip really didn't mean anything to Simba now, since the lunkhead hadn't gone back to the Pride Lands yet, but Kovu felt insulted when Simba said that.

He looked over at Kiara. "Yeah, it's a fish. Sometimes, in the Outlands, it was the best we could find to eat. There's not exactly much decent prey, so we had to learn to get by." The last words had the undertone of a growl, and were directed more out of the side of his mouth at Simba than Kiara.

[identity profile] canfinallyroar.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Alright, I will." Simba had a mischievous grin on his face. It wasn't until Kovu made his other statement that Simba realized that the other male didn't understand that Simba was just messing around with him. He still didn't know what this guy's problem was, and he couldn't help but flash a confused yet annoyed look at him before wandering off away from the sea. Man, he needed to chill out.

There were some wooden human-made-cave-things that had become so familiar to him so quickly in Paixao. It made hunting more of a hassle, but Simba was sure he could get by. He stepped into the bushes, hoping there was something on the other side to get. Having practiced catching bugs in such an environment, Simba knew how to get through the leaves and brush without making much noise.

To his disappointment, Simba came across a small bird, not a zebra or antelope or anything more fun. He frowned, but bent low and got ready to pounce, waiting for the opportune moment.

A cloud of feathers flew up in the air accompanied by a low growl, and before long, Simba trudged back to where he had left Kiara and Kovu, with nothing but a small bird in his mouth. This placed sucked.

Easier said than done. Kovu had grown up hating almost everything about this guy, and as much as he wanted to, forgetting that wasn't the simplest thing in the world. He sighed.

"Sorry Kiara..." Simba's return kept Kovu from looking guilty for very long, though.

"That's soooo much better than a fish." He chuckled. "I don't think we have much of a choice." Kovu looked around again, and sniffed, but there weren't any other prey scents.

[identity profile] canfinallyroar.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Simba gave a pout. He had expected nothing less from Kovu, and for his last remark, he felt he kind of deserved it.

"Yeah, yeah. I don't think we're going to find anything else here though, unless you want to go hunting for grubs." He knew both Kiara and Kovu would reply in the negative, but it might be funny to see their response to that. He was sure there were plenty of bugs to go around, as there were plenty of places for the little morsels to hide. In fact, some were buzzing around in the air.

Simba huffed. This place was awful. Well, at least when it came to looking for something to hunt. At least the weather here was nice. "Unless you guys know about any other places, it looks like we'll have to make due with birds and fish."

[personal profile] thescaronhisface 2010-10-04 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Kovu made a face too. "...Grubs? Please tell me you don't eat grubs." Was this for real? This was the guy his mom had hated so much? He seemed so...easy-going. How did someone like that ever beat Scar?

"You think there are any other doors like that weird one?"

[identity profile] canfinallyroar.livejournal.com 2010-10-06 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Simba smirked at the others reactions. "Slimy yet satisfying." He was amused to see that he had grossed out Kovu, and he hadn't even mentioned the bug eating contests he had participated in with Timon and Pumbaa when he was younger. He had beat them both at everything, and he was still kind of proud of it.

"I don't know. I haven't checked." Simba had done little exploring outside the city. In fact, this was the first time he had left Paixao and gone to a different 'world.' "We could always wander around and find out."
thescaronhisface: (concerned)

[personal profile] thescaronhisface 2010-11-02 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh...maybe that wouldn't be a good idea." Kovu did not like the idea of being left alone with Simba. And it would probably take a while before he would.

Kovu sighed, and looked away from the other two lions for a second, but then quickly looked back up, trying to hide that he'd done it in the first place. ...It was too bad he didn't have a good excuse for why they shouldn't split up. Maybe Kiara would pick up on it and cover for him...

Short tag is short. D:

[identity profile] canfinallyroar.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Simba, being oblivious as always, missed Kovu's reaction for the most part. "Why not? We're all grown lions, we can take care of ourselves." He didn't mind if he'd split up to be with Kiara, Kovu, or even by himself. As long as they found something to hunt somewhere, he'd be happy.

[personal profile] thescaronhisface 2010-11-05 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Kovu grimaced, but he nodded. "Uh...right. Yeah...it won't take very long at all."

Great, Kiara was totally clueless. Just what he needed. Well...with any luck, this would be really, really quick, and he wouldn't have to worry about Simba. For that matter...he was starting to think that worrying about Simba was kind of dumb to start with. This Simba was so...carefree. It was really weird, but...Kovu didn't feel as tense around him as he did the Simba he knew.

[identity profile] canfinallyroar.livejournal.com 2010-11-05 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sounds easy enough to me." He gave Kiara a reassuring smile, knowing that she had mentioned that her hunting wasn't very good.

"Well, I'm goin' this way." Simba turned around and started sauntering off along the edge of the beach, in search of a good place to find gazelle, antelope, damn, just anything. Even a beef would be worth finding, whatever it looked like.

He took a look back and noticed Kovu. "What's up with you? C'mon!"
thescaronhisface: (now what?)

[personal profile] thescaronhisface 2010-11-20 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
Kovu wasn't exactly sure where they expected him to look, since Kiara had gone one way, and her father had gone the other. He turned around in a circle, trying to see if there was anything on the island he'd missed. That left him with looking around this area a little more, he guessed...

Not that there was much to see. He waited a bit for Simba to go along the beach, then hugged close to the rocks around the inside edge of the land instead. He passed by a wooden...thing, a...building? Yeah, that was it. Then there was a waterfall, with a bunch of plants on one side of it, and a wooden ramp leading up it. He climbed up the ramp, and saw a hole in the cliff face. A leap took him through, where he saw the tops of a lot of trees, and a weird star-shaped thing was right next to him.

[identity profile] canfinallyroar.livejournal.com 2010-11-21 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Simba frowned as he strolled his way around the island. It wasn't small. It was tiny. Even Timon would find this place cramped! There couldn't be any game here. There was no place for the game to live!

He turned around when he saw Kovu at the top on a wooden human-cane-thing. "How did you get up there?"

[personal profile] thescaronhisface 2010-11-21 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Kovu saw the father-daughter pair approaching each other below him, and jumped over to an outcropping that led down to the same level they were on. He went at a casual pace, not in any real hurry to get going at all.

"There's a way up on the other side," he answered, gesturing toward the small cave he'd come through.
