Keeping Up Appearances [Active]
Character(s): Vyers, Laharl, Flonne and Etna? And Timon?
Content: In Halloween Town, full of heartless and all that, and what do Laharl andVyers Mid-Boss do? Get into a fight with eachother, of course.
Setting: Halloween Town
Time: While exploring Halloween Town.
Warnings: Goodness only knows.
Laharl definitely liked this 'floor' more than the other two, that was for sure. It wasn't exactly like the Netherworld, but it felt a bit like one. The darkness of the place suited him, and the fact there was no lack of things to fight wasn't so bad either. It was a lot better than he'd expected, certainly.
It had been rather convenient they'd found the others as they were heading to the door from Destiny Island. Or rather, useful. Of course, they would have found the door eventually, but Laharl's patience might not have held out much longer. There had been still a problem with finding the group, however; Vyers was there.
It wouldn't have been a problem if Etna and Flonne weren't with him and were still completely in the dark about Mid-Boss' true identity. It wasn't entirely hard, however, to act like nothing was different. It was hardly an act at all actually. It wasn't hard to forget the annoying and flamboyant demon was really his father.
Or, well, not so much forget as ignore.

Ah, but he was probably worrying too much. If it was gone, there was no reason to worry, right? I have not woken up so early in a long time. That is all, he repeated to himself. Have I become so much of a worrywart? Of course not. Perhaps another fight would help to ease his worries. He and Laharl were long overdue for one, after all.
"It occurs to me that I have been a poor rival as of late," he said thoughtfully, a finger delicately resting against his chin. "How terrible of moi... This should be remedied immediately!" In a single, graceful, overdramatic move Vyers turned and pointed at Laharl. "Let us do battle, my eternal rival!"
no subject
"Right?"
no subject
Etna dug her spear into the ground and leaned forward against it. "I'd say. We're wasting time, go away Mid-boss."
no subject
"Here? Now?" the young demon uttered incredulously.
Laharl knew they had to act 'normal', but what the hell? Why now? They had better things to do right now! This was hardly the time to play this stupid game. Then again, when had Mid-Boss' timing for these things EVER good?
"Not to mention too stupid," he added to Flonne's observation. As annoyed as Laharl was, seeing his old man twitch as Etna used the much disliked name was somehow more amusing than it even used to be.
no subject
Battle for appearance's sake was long forgotten by now. This was about the principle of the matter! He was certainly capable of being Laharl's rival, even if it was a false one, and even if Laharl refused to accept it!

He sighed. Knowing Vyers he would in all likelihood fail to listen to him, like always, and later pay for it. Or rather, they would both pay for it. It always seemed to work out that way for some reason which was incredibly unfair. “They’re right, this is pointless! We got more important things to do than fight anyway. Let’s just get outta here while we still can. You know, before you do something really dumb.”
no subject
"Yeah, what the rat said. At least, if you guys are going to fight, wait until we can get some people here to watch you fail, Mid-Boss. I'm sure people would love to see your spectacular way of losing," Etna said, sighing in exasperation.
no subject
"Hmhmhm!" the young Overlord couldn't help but chuckle at Etna's comment. It was too bad more weren't here to see this.
"Come on, Mid-Boss. I didn't come here to fight YOU."
Laharl, however, was starting to consider just kicking his old man's ass and be done with it. It might be easier than arguing how stupid this was with him. It'd definitely take less time. He'd be hearing, however, about how stupid this was later. Seriously. Laharl couldn't wait to hear what excuses he had for this show of stupidity.

He glanced only briefly at Timon, mostly staring at the trio before him, though his mind was elsewhere. How incredibly rude. How insulting! If that was going to be the case, he was hardly going to make this easy on them. If he could attack from the trees... It would be hard as there were little to no leaves for cover, but it might provide just the right amount of surprise. It would be easier if this place had any geopanels around, but it seemed he would have to use the terrain the old-fashioned way this time.
no subject
"It isn't an insult! It's the truth!" As far as the fallen angel knew, it was, anyway! "Please, let's stop this now! Timon-san may be hurt as well!"
no subject
“Ugh, stop it. You’re embarrassing me, you know that?” Timon pulled himself up onto the demons shoulder where he could look him in the face when he addressed him. This way he was less likely to be ignored. Well, hopefully less, anyway. “Now you’re gonna make us both look bad.” He continued and gave Vyers a good poke in the head. “Would you just get over yourself and focus on what we came here in the first place for? We don’t have time for this. And besides, you’re the only one who even wants to fight. Why you’d want to fight in the first place though is beyond me, especially with your own so-“
no subject
"Fine, if you really want me to kick your ass, I'll do it, if just to get rid of you, Mid-Boss."
This was going to be a huge waste of time, but if his old man really wanted to do this, he might as well just play along. He didn't really have much choice but to at this point. He wasn't being given a choice. He'd have to talk to the older demon later... and the meerkat as well.

Vyers quickly calmed down as Laharl interrupted the meerkat, or at least went back to his usual state of calm. "I admire your confidence! But you will not be so lucky this time. But first..." Vyers swiftly took Timon in his hand and put him back in his inventory. "There! Now he has less chance of being hurt," he said to Flonne.
And Timon also had more of a chance to keep distracted and not speak any dangerous secrets. A pity that his recovery items had to suffer.
"En garde!" He rushed forward with fist raised, throwing a punch once he was in distance of Laharl. He half noticed that Etna was not participating in the fight, which was curious, but not entirely unusual, considering how often he was called weak.

"Could you be any more obvious?"
If this was how it was going to be, Laharl, Etna and Flonne could be on their way in no time.
no subject
"I had to make sure you were serious," he lied, attempting to piece together the constantly shattering and reforming pieces of his dignity. "Now the real fight begins!"
Vyers leaped backwards to put distance between the two of them and once more to move back into the trees, keeping himself hidden as he created a couple of clones and sent them around in an attempt to surround the area. He chuckled to himself before calling out, "See if you can find me!"
As he said, he had no intention of making this an easy battle now.
no subject
"I'm not playing games, Mid-Boss! Get your ass out here and fight!" he yelled out for Vyers to hear.
Hopefully this would bring an attack to him. He wasn't going to go chasing clones around.
no subject
And so he followed through with Laharl's request, both he and his copies jumping from the trees (for maximum effect, of course) and closing in.
no subject
Laharl was unimpressed, and hardly seemed to break a sweat as he picked up he was being surrounded. Leaping up, as the demon and his clones closed in, Laharl gathered his powers to his fist and slammed back down to the ground, an explosion of whirling energy and fire swirled in a several metre radius from the center. Hopefully take care of the copies, and Vyers too, if he was lucky.
Which, generally, Laharl wasn't.

"Are you done yet?" Laharl asked, meanwhile, his arm still outstretched.
Laharl was ready for this to be over. It was definitely clear at this point, Vyers was doing nothing but wasting his time.
no subject
But even that wasn't going to deter Vyers and soon he was standing again, drawing himself up with a confident grin and a laugh. "Of course not, dear boy!" he replied. "I have only begun!" Throwing his arms in front of him, Vyers slowly began to float upward, a crackling ball of blue energy forming in front of him as the demon's grin only grew.
Suddenly, it faded and the energy before him fizzled out as Vyers fell to the ground on one knee. He stayed there for a second before standing again, attempting to look just as confident as before, though it was strained. "I... I seem to be cramping a bit. Ah, I should not have forgotten to stretch this morning!" he said quickly, sounding a little out of breath. "Let this be a lesson to all of you in proper morning routines. Farewell!"
And he was running off, fighting the sudden pain he felt through his entire body and pushing past the panic that was slowly creeping in.
no subject
He should have seen this coming. He really, really should have.
But... Had his attack really injured Vyers that badly? Huh. Maybe it had? Although, the way Vyers' energy had just... fizzled. Something wasn't right, but what? He really wasn't sure. Laharl was almost worried, but of course, he didn't show it.
"...Cramps."
He rolled his eyes, turning back to Etna and Flonne.
"Well, that was a waste of time. Let's go."
no subject
... Though now Etna was getting a headache trying to figure out what Mid-Boss just pulled. "Yeah, right behind ya, Prince," Etna muttered, rubbing her forehead a little. That was going to be the last time she tried to analyze Mid-Boss's screw-ups.
no subject
She watched him run off, hands clasped together over her heart. Perhaps this was more serious than it seemed? A glance at Etna revealed nothing, but Laharl seemed almost concerned for the briefest moment. She merely nodded at Laharl's command, trailing behind.
