The Genie Golf Classic

Character(s): Everyone who entered into the tournament.
Content: GOLF!
Setting: Starts at Joutenheim outside the city and works itself back in ending at City Hall.
Time: Week 8, Morning
Warnings: Watch for flying balls ;)

"Good morning and welcome to the first annual Genie Golf Classic. It’s a beautiful day just outside the city of Paixao here on the mysterious but equally as gorgeous island. Unfortunately due to legal purposes it is to remain unnamed for the time being so for those of you watching our live feed at home put the maps away and find yourself another vacation spot. I suggest Abu Dhabi, someone needs to bring Nermal back home.

The sun is out and it’s hitting you at total of seventy five degrease Fahrenheit. Wind’s coming at you at three miles an hour, just south east with a relative humidity of thirty percent. Whoo! Hope you brought your sunscreen kids, it’s gunna be a hot one. For those of you who forgot to bring a beverage we do have a stand set up at the checkpoint with both free food and drink. That’s gunna be the sixth hole, just outside the Niflheim gate. Get ‘em while they last. Back inside the domes it looks as though we might be seeing some thundershowers this afternoon with a high chance of belligerent Org. members. Do be careful out there and don’t hesitate to call if you run into any trouble.

Things are about to get underway. We ask that all golfers that haven’t already please report to the first hole for full registration to receive maps, clubs, and more. The game will be underway in a few moments from now. So far we can look forward to seeing such notable personalities out on the green today as President Naja Salaheem of the Salaheem Sentinels and Urd, Goddess of Love. We also have the Doctor accompanied by his lovely lady friends, Jecht, Ivan, and more! Who will you meet on the green today?

Here’s a reminder for all you out there that the winner of today’s game will be awarded our super awesome ultra fantastic secret grand prize. What is it? Win and find out!

Before we begin a quick reminder of the rules is in order. We have a lot of new players with us today so we want to do our best to help play the game as well as enjoy themselves. It also never hurts to refresh yourself. A complete but brief explanation of the rules of the game can be found at the first hole along with all the necessary course maps. To be very, very brief, your objective for today is to get your ball into all the holes on the course using your clubs in as few swings as possible. Count your clubs before you begin; you are only allowed a total of fourteen. Also, remember to play the ball as it lies. This is very important. Respect your opponents and practise good etiquette. Most importantly HAVE FUN!

As a closing note, I feel I need not remind anyone that there is no tolerance for endangering another player’s wellbeing. Anyone who does so will face very strict and harsh penalties by me. If you run into any trouble on the course today don’t hesitate to summon me by either the alarm found on your cart or golf bag. I have several scouts spread out across the course and will also be patrolling the area to ensure safety to all our players.

Right! Now with that all out of the way, get out there, have fun, and buy a souvenir t-shirt!"

[ooc: All maps and information are posted in the ooc
here. If you have any questions feel free to ask them there. Also, here is a useful guide to golf that might come in handy for those who are not completely familiar with the game like myself.]

Urd could be heard before she could be seen, humming a jaunty tune. She appeared out of nowhere some feet away from Genie's table, as if plummeting straight down from the sky, but as per usual, she floated gracefully off the ground instead of crashing into it.

The goddess had definitely dressed down for the occassion, sporting baggy, low-riding jeans and a midriff baring faded t-shirt that was a little too tight to be decent. Even her hair was up in a ponytail, which was now bouncing with her energetic waving. "Ah! Genie!"

She floated closer, bare feet touching the grass as she perused the table's contents. "Wow, you really went all out, didn't you?" she chuckled. With a wink at the djinn, she snapped her fingers, the faded design stretched on her shirt changing to match the shirts on the table.

Keeping up appearances seemed like a wise idea, especially given that the event was open to citizens as well. Although, it wasn't as though anyone would recognize her; she hardly left City Hall these days. It was far too overcomplicated of a procedure, after all.

Rosemary wasn't entirely sure of the game itself, but she was not against learning. She finds herself not far from the exceptionally bubbly woman, wondering who she may have been. Perhaps she would be a good one to follow through this event? If the woman didn't mind, of course.

"Excuse me," Rosemary says as she approached the woman, "do you know a lot regarding this game? It isn't something we've seen in Paixao before."

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Eh?" Urd turned from the table, eyeing the stranger with a mix of curiosity and the barest tinge of annoyance at being distracted from Genie. But then she smiled and was all friendliness, albeit more reserved than previously demonstrated. As she stepped closer, she replied, "I know enough. You whack the ball into the hole with as few attempts as possible." She paused, tilting her head. "You're a native, then? What's your name?"

[identity profile] paixaonpcs.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Rosemary didn't catch the woman's annoyance in the slightest. The brief explanation of the game didn't sound as though it was anything complicated, at least. Maybe with a bit of practice it would become easier.

She glances away, taking in the different people gathering. Their city was quite good at attracting outsiders to it. "I am," she replies. "It's Rosemary."

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Rosemary? I'm Urd." She followed the woman's line of sight, also watching the others gather for a moment. Arms folded, she glanced sidelong at Rosemary, eyebrow arched. She wasn't the most conversational woman, was she? In fact, Urd was getting a distinct feeling of blankness about her. Then again, she was the first native to this world that came to her first.

Smiling again, Urd tilted her head. "So you're gonna play with us? I'm surprised, I admit."

[identity profile] paixaonpcs.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Being able to socialize came in handy with her line of work, although she hasn't spoken to the population as a whole in a long time; she didn't need to. She glances back to Urd, raising a brow. "I am. I do not believe many of the other natives will join, but I decided I would try it out."

Though... it was more of something 'suggested' to her. Still, she didn't find any reason that she should not participate, and now she was here.

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2009-07-14 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, you're welcome to tag along with me." Urd grinned, flipping the loose locks of hair unbound by her ponytail off her shoulders. Glancing back at the table, she jerked a thumb toward it. "Let's sign in. We can share a cart." Truthfully, she hadn't planned on using a cart at all, since flying around was much faster. With this human, though (and were the citizens of Paixao actually human? Sometimes she wondered...), she didn't think the woman would appreciate the goddess dragging her around several yards off of the ground.

She headed back to the table.

Urd had been distracted by Rosemary but now, she gave Genie her full attention again. Taking the form in her hand, she gave him a little smirk in response to his good-natured jab at her her swing. After she had shown him a demonstration on the roof of her apartment (and failing miserably), she'd been so embarassed that she'd been secretly practicing controlling her strength. It wouldn't do to not be on her A game today, not only because she had a reputation to protect, but because she wanted to impress a certain blue spirit.

"Oh, that super awesome prize will definitely be mine, handsome," she said, forgoing the provided pen to sign the papers. Instead, she pointed her finger at the dotted line and, with a crack of thunder across the sky, her name was signed along with a complex, runic design -- her personal sigil. Both name and sign glowed gold briefly before turning the shade of normal ink. "I do have my own set of clubs, but I'll have to ask to borrow a cart." Handing the papers back over, she gestured at Rosemary behind her. "Rosemary here will be joining me." It seemed she wasn't giving the native a choice in the matter.

As Urd stepped aside the let Rosemary sign the papers as well, she summoned her golf bag. Purple and gold, it was (unsurprisingly) as flashy as her. Even her clubs (woods, irons and putters) seemed to glitter unnaturally in the sun.

Urd was casually lifting and inspecting each club from her bag while Genie bragged, but it was really just an act. Eyes hooded, she watched him carefully under her eyelashes. At his last little pun, she smiled wickedly. "Oh, I wouldn't mind being up against him at all. In fact, I've been looking forward to it." With that last comment, she took withdrew a club entirely and rested it on her shoulder, eyeing the djinn with a combination of challenge and mischief.

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, this was a side of Genie she definitely enjoyed. She'd seen a glimpse of it when they first met, but it was nothing compared to the mood crackling between them now. It was enough to make her heart beat just a little faster in anticipation. "Oh...?" she murmured, smirking. "Maybe you'd be interested in a litter wager between us, then? An additional prize, so to speak."

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2009-07-17 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Urd leaned toward Genie as well now, tapping the club across her shoulders, one hand on her hip. She'd actually been thinking about just this very conversation as she practiced her putts and drives -- what would the winner get in a personal bet between them? Her first instinct was to ask for a date, but she immediately squashed that idea. There needed to be a prize that benefited him too, right? Besides, Urd wanted any romance between them to be voluntary on his side.

So then what? Slave for a day? No, no, no. Amusing to the average person, perhaps, but Genie had done the slave thing for real and she didn't want him to deal with it again, even if it was all in good fun. (For awhile, Urd had stood on the domes of Paixao where she practiced her shots, club forgotten in her hand, eyes staring off into nothing as she pictured all the things Genie might have her do if he'd won in such a situation.)

"Whoever has the lowest score between us," she said now, smiling sweetly, "has to fly around Paixao with a banner and a megaphone, announcing all the reasons why the other is great, perfect and simply amazing."

To her credit, Urd didn't show her shock on her face and appeared to the casual observer much the same. A closer look yielded more honest results, however. A slight flush, hidden fairly well by her dark skin, spread over her face and she leaned back away from Genie, feigning placing the putter in her hands back in the bag as an excuse to gather her wits.

"Really?" she asked lightly, her smirk losing its edge and turning more into a pleased smile. "I didn't know you could cook. You'll be sure to provide a little sake for me, right? That's important." She looked up from her clubs to Genie once more, unable to diguise how happy she was at the idea.

"You've got yourself a bet, handsome."

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2009-07-20 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Urd grinned in response and took his hand, shaking it a few times to seal the deal. She wanted to know more about his last ten thousand years, who Carpet was (it couldn't be an actual carpet, could it?), what other hobbies he engaged in. But as a particularly loud contestant crowed his entrance, she decided to let that conversation wait for the time being. He still had work to do, after all...and she wasn't here to talk, she was here to golf!

"I'll let you get back to the rest of the participants," she said, hands on her hips. "All Rosemary and I need is a golf cart and we'll get started."

[identity profile] paixaonpcs.livejournal.com 2009-07-23 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Rosemary waited silently until their exchange winded down, observing the pair with her arms behind. Outsiders always seemed... unique in their personalities. It would be interesting to play golf with this woman, once she learned the basics of how to play.

"Thank you," she says to Genie, then turns to Urd with a smile. "Shall we, then?"

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2009-07-24 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Urd cast Genie a subtle, lingering look before she focused on Rosemary again, smiling apologetically. "Ah, yes. Sorry about that." She lead the way to the tent, her golf bag floating lazily behind her. "Genie and I are...competitive." Yes, that seemed a sufficient explanation of the tension between them. Smiling wryly to herself, she picked a cart out at random as they entered the shade of the tent and climbed into it, the golf bag falling into the back.

She paused, hands on the steering wheel and gave Rosemary a curious look. "Wait...you don't have a golf bag, do you?"

[identity profile] paixaonpcs.livejournal.com 2009-07-25 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
She says another, quick 'thank you' to Genie again, then turns for the cart. Well, it seems she'd be learning how to play soon then, right? "I suppose we're all set, then," she murmurs, and then frowns slightly. Would the other woman drive? Well, the other hole wasn't too far away... they could likely walk... Still, hoping she isn't being rude, she slides into passenger seat.

Spish, I'm gonna go ahead without you. Catch up when you can~

[identity profile] tenshinomakai.livejournal.com 2009-07-25 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Urd chuckled, sliding into the driver's seat. Juice boxes and sandwiches. "Thanks, Mom~!" she called teasingly after Genie. She glanced at Rosemary and smirked, eyebrow raised. "Well, let's get this game started, shall we?" Settling back comfortably, she started the cart...and started speeding towards the hole faster than was needed, her long ponytail streaming behind her.

But instead of careening off course as might be expected, the goddess expertly guided it to the teeing ground. She hopped out of the cart grinning, eyes sparkling with the spirit of competition -- she was eager to be the first one through the course. "Alright! I'll go first!" She snapped her fingers and a club from her bag flung itself into her hands. She inspected it and, changing her mind, summoned the 3 wood instead. However tempting it was to use a driver to make the straight shot to the hole, she was going to err on the side of caution -- the last time she flung caution to the wind, she humilated herself, after all.

A golf ball appeared in a puff of smoke above the tee, falling into place perfectly. Urd twirled the club like a baton, staring down the hole in the distance. "This'll be easy!" she crowed, now gripping the club with both hands. A swing backwards and...

Thock! The ball went sailing with a high arc -- it didn't go as far as she would have liked, but it stayed straight and that was important. The ball bounced once, twice on the green and rolled to a stop a few feet from the hole. Grinning, she tossed the club up and caught it in mid-air. "Ha! I'm better than I thought!" she crowed. Flying low over the green to the ball, she didn't even bother touching her feet to the ground as she made a careful putt to sink the ball.

It was hardly a hole in one, but it would definitely do. She glanced up towards the group milling some ways away, gaze immediately snapping the bright blue color that wove in and out of the crowd. "That dinner is mine, Genie," she murmured to herself before heading back to the cart and Rosemary.
