The Genie Golf Classic

Character(s): Everyone who entered into the tournament.
Content: GOLF!
Setting: Starts at Joutenheim outside the city and works itself back in ending at City Hall.
Time: Week 8, Morning
Warnings: Watch for flying balls ;)

"Good morning and welcome to the first annual Genie Golf Classic. It’s a beautiful day just outside the city of Paixao here on the mysterious but equally as gorgeous island. Unfortunately due to legal purposes it is to remain unnamed for the time being so for those of you watching our live feed at home put the maps away and find yourself another vacation spot. I suggest Abu Dhabi, someone needs to bring Nermal back home.

The sun is out and it’s hitting you at total of seventy five degrease Fahrenheit. Wind’s coming at you at three miles an hour, just south east with a relative humidity of thirty percent. Whoo! Hope you brought your sunscreen kids, it’s gunna be a hot one. For those of you who forgot to bring a beverage we do have a stand set up at the checkpoint with both free food and drink. That’s gunna be the sixth hole, just outside the Niflheim gate. Get ‘em while they last. Back inside the domes it looks as though we might be seeing some thundershowers this afternoon with a high chance of belligerent Org. members. Do be careful out there and don’t hesitate to call if you run into any trouble.

Things are about to get underway. We ask that all golfers that haven’t already please report to the first hole for full registration to receive maps, clubs, and more. The game will be underway in a few moments from now. So far we can look forward to seeing such notable personalities out on the green today as President Naja Salaheem of the Salaheem Sentinels and Urd, Goddess of Love. We also have the Doctor accompanied by his lovely lady friends, Jecht, Ivan, and more! Who will you meet on the green today?

Here’s a reminder for all you out there that the winner of today’s game will be awarded our super awesome ultra fantastic secret grand prize. What is it? Win and find out!

Before we begin a quick reminder of the rules is in order. We have a lot of new players with us today so we want to do our best to help play the game as well as enjoy themselves. It also never hurts to refresh yourself. A complete but brief explanation of the rules of the game can be found at the first hole along with all the necessary course maps. To be very, very brief, your objective for today is to get your ball into all the holes on the course using your clubs in as few swings as possible. Count your clubs before you begin; you are only allowed a total of fourteen. Also, remember to play the ball as it lies. This is very important. Respect your opponents and practise good etiquette. Most importantly HAVE FUN!

As a closing note, I feel I need not remind anyone that there is no tolerance for endangering another player’s wellbeing. Anyone who does so will face very strict and harsh penalties by me. If you run into any trouble on the course today don’t hesitate to summon me by either the alarm found on your cart or golf bag. I have several scouts spread out across the course and will also be patrolling the area to ensure safety to all our players.

Right! Now with that all out of the way, get out there, have fun, and buy a souvenir t-shirt!"

[ooc: All maps and information are posted in the ooc
here. If you have any questions feel free to ask them there. Also, here is a useful guide to golf that might come in handy for those who are not completely familiar with the game like myself.]

Urd certainly didn't have any room to judge if Genie had blown something up in a fit of temper. That was something she did too often herself. Clearing her throat and banishing the image of the melted flagpole from her mind, she twirled the club and hit her palm with the end of it. "Right!" She started to head for her ball but stopped for a moment, glancing at him. "You know, I really didn't do anything to your ball," she said, pointing to the bright-blue, lipstick-marked ball. "I was just trying to psych you out. If you want to use a different one, though, you can."

With that, she stepped up to her ball. Taking her cue from the djinn, she crouched low to the grass and lined up her shot, eyes narrowed as she focused. She didn't whip out any measuring instruments, though...Urd did a lot better when she just went with the flow, relying on chance. She stood up abruptly, smiling an easy, casual smile and hit the ball.

It flew through the air briefly through the air, bouncing near the hole. It rolled to a slow stop at the edge of the hole and Urd leaned forward, face intense. "Come on! Go! Get in!" she yelled, moving her hands frantically. As if it understood her, the ball finally klunked inside the hole.

She cheered, jumping up with one fist upraised. "Yes!"

"Ah..." Urd muttered, watching the slow build of Genie's temper with dread. "It's okay! Well, it's in the fields, but you can play it straight through. It's still a straight shot! I think..." She glanced at the field where the ball had rolled and back to the djinn. "Come on...I have an idea."

Once again forgoing the slower transportation of walking, she flew casually to the ball, gesturing for Genie to follow her.

Urd touched her feet to the ground and turned slightly to watch Genie, one hand on her hip. When he finally joined her, she smiled. "Maybe you just need help with your swing." She moved behind him, placing her hands on his back and giving him a gentle but persistent push towards the ball. "Hold on to your club as if you were going to make a shot," her voice came from behind him. Her arms came up on either side of the djinn and her hands covered his own larger ones. She was now floating behind him, he being taller than herself, with her head by his shoulder, peeking down at the club and ball at his feet. "You need to relax more...if you're all tense you won't hit the ball right."

Obliviousness to any discomfort -- or other emotion -- that Genie might be feeling, Urd focused on guiding his shot. Her hands holding his on the club, she swung back and hit the ball. It jumped up in a high arc out of the tall grass and weeds and bounced on the green, rolling into the hole on a smooth, even line. "Ah! There we go," Urd said, smiling brightly at Genie as she moved back. "Did you see how it's done? You just need to let it flow. Clear any thoughts about how you might miss or screw up."

"...you're welcome," Urd said wryly, hands on her hips. He didn't seem very grateful, did he? So suspicious. "And, for your information, I haven't used any magic today. Except for flying, I mean. And..." She trailed off, glancing away. "And that one time I got frustrated and struck the flagpole with lightening," she added, muttering quickly and under her breath.

"Anyway, I told you, I practiced a lot!" Urd went on quickly, tossing her ponytail with casual, likely unconscious arrogance. "Stop being so suspicious." She nearly pouted now, folding her arms and slanting the djinn a put upon look. "I wouldn't cheat with you, Genie. How can I tell how our abilities stack up if I don't play it straight?"

"Erk..." Urd uttered as Genie pointed at her, hands behind her back and spine ramrod straight. When he sighed, she relaxed visibly, folding her arms again and giving him a wary glance as he spoke. At the end, she sighed too, looking to the side. "Look, how about we just call it? If you're not having fun then there's no reason to continue." Still facing the green, she looked at him from the corner of her eye.

"If you don't want to, you don't even have to make me dinner." Her voice grew quiet as she turned away, but not before giving him a brief, reassuring smile. "I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to call the whole thing off."

Urd's lips curved in a small, sweet smile that was quickly replaced by the more characteristic wicked smirk. "Don't worry about it, handsome. I don't think any less of you." Point of fact, she actually felt more relaxed around him now, for knowing he had flaws just like she did helped her relate to him even more than she already did. She stepped closer, patting his shoulder as she gazed up at him. "Thanks for playing with me. I always have more fun when you're around."

She turned away, gathering up her golf equipment. She grinned at Genie over her shoulder, eyes lit with mischief and flirtatious good humor. "You better make me something delicious!"
