The Genie Golf Classic

Character(s): Everyone who entered into the tournament.
Content: GOLF!
Setting: Starts at Joutenheim outside the city and works itself back in ending at City Hall.
Time: Week 8, Morning
Warnings: Watch for flying balls ;)

"Good morning and welcome to the first annual Genie Golf Classic. It’s a beautiful day just outside the city of Paixao here on the mysterious but equally as gorgeous island. Unfortunately due to legal purposes it is to remain unnamed for the time being so for those of you watching our live feed at home put the maps away and find yourself another vacation spot. I suggest Abu Dhabi, someone needs to bring Nermal back home.

The sun is out and it’s hitting you at total of seventy five degrease Fahrenheit. Wind’s coming at you at three miles an hour, just south east with a relative humidity of thirty percent. Whoo! Hope you brought your sunscreen kids, it’s gunna be a hot one. For those of you who forgot to bring a beverage we do have a stand set up at the checkpoint with both free food and drink. That’s gunna be the sixth hole, just outside the Niflheim gate. Get ‘em while they last. Back inside the domes it looks as though we might be seeing some thundershowers this afternoon with a high chance of belligerent Org. members. Do be careful out there and don’t hesitate to call if you run into any trouble.

Things are about to get underway. We ask that all golfers that haven’t already please report to the first hole for full registration to receive maps, clubs, and more. The game will be underway in a few moments from now. So far we can look forward to seeing such notable personalities out on the green today as President Naja Salaheem of the Salaheem Sentinels and Urd, Goddess of Love. We also have the Doctor accompanied by his lovely lady friends, Jecht, Ivan, and more! Who will you meet on the green today?

Here’s a reminder for all you out there that the winner of today’s game will be awarded our super awesome ultra fantastic secret grand prize. What is it? Win and find out!

Before we begin a quick reminder of the rules is in order. We have a lot of new players with us today so we want to do our best to help play the game as well as enjoy themselves. It also never hurts to refresh yourself. A complete but brief explanation of the rules of the game can be found at the first hole along with all the necessary course maps. To be very, very brief, your objective for today is to get your ball into all the holes on the course using your clubs in as few swings as possible. Count your clubs before you begin; you are only allowed a total of fourteen. Also, remember to play the ball as it lies. This is very important. Respect your opponents and practise good etiquette. Most importantly HAVE FUN!

As a closing note, I feel I need not remind anyone that there is no tolerance for endangering another player’s wellbeing. Anyone who does so will face very strict and harsh penalties by me. If you run into any trouble on the course today don’t hesitate to summon me by either the alarm found on your cart or golf bag. I have several scouts spread out across the course and will also be patrolling the area to ensure safety to all our players.

Right! Now with that all out of the way, get out there, have fun, and buy a souvenir t-shirt!"

[ooc: All maps and information are posted in the ooc
here. If you have any questions feel free to ask them there. Also, here is a useful guide to golf that might come in handy for those who are not completely familiar with the game like myself.]

Lenne danced lightly up to Genie's table with a friendly wave and a smile, entirely unsure what exactly she'd be getting herself into. But, hey! It had to be less painful than trying to rescue a girl from Hades, eh? Besides, any excuse was a good one to get out in the sun.

She browsed the various items on the desk, while eyeing the golf carts somewhat wearily. She was starting to get the general concept of the game from her perusing, and claimed a pencil and a couple score cards for herself. The t-shirts were rather tempting, too.

She looked around as a few others started to arrive, wondering if she would see anyone she recognized. A little friendly competition would make it that much more fun.

"Oh, hello!" Lenne greeted, finally finding her voice and her manners.
"I'm becoming more familiar by the moment, but I've never played this game before," she admitted sheepishly. Well, at least she seemed to look like she knew what she was doing! That was encouraging.

She took the guide from him with a grin, "I'm Lenne, it's nice to meet you, Genie," she responded. It was impossible not to smile around him. "This will definitely help!" she added, beginning to flip through the pages of the guide, looking for pictures to start with.

"Looks like I still need clubs and balls. Sounds pretty brutal, already," she laughed.

Lenne gasped, eyes wide in shock at Genie's reaction to her joke, she waved her hands, trying to distract him from his lamenting.

"Oh, no, no! Dear, it was a joke, I promise you... you know? Clubs? I... oh goodness, I'm sorry, it really is a lovely idea, I promise!"

Was he always this emotionally volatile? She would have to be careful with her sarcasm, it seemed. She reached out to pat his hand gently.

"Please don't be upset, I suppose it was a terrible joke, I am sorry."

Lenne laughed lightly and nodded. "I do! And it appears that there are many types, and I have no idea which ones I need," she lamented, still flipping through the pages of the guide. She was glad for his mood swing, she would just have to be careful not to make another golf joke.

"And I'm sure everyone will have a great time once we all get playing," she assured him with another smile.

Lenne nodded as Genie explained the differences in clubs, then laughed. "Well, I'm definitely a beginner," she admitted. "I'd never even heard of this game until your advertisement, but it seems simple enough." Maybe just simple enough to be deceptively complicated.

She followed him to the tent where all the clubs where, and had to keep her jaw from dropping open at the variety. "Oh, my." she managed, taking in the array. "I don't even know where to begin!" she laughed.

Lenne took the form from Genie and filled in her name in a decorative script, then signed her name equally artistically after reviewing the fine print. Hopefully she wasn't missing anything about inevitable bodily harm...

Lenne's eyes grew wider little bit by bit at every club she watched the Genie toss into the already heavy-looking bag. She was going to have to lug THAT all over the place? Oh my.

She couldn't help but be amused, however, and giggled as she watched the unfortunate piece of equipment transformed into all sorts of strange things, none looking very useful to the game at hand.

"Wish I could help!" she managed, eyes fixed on the club, wondering what it would finally end up as. She flipped through the pages of the guide, hoping maybe something would be in a language she actually recognized and could maybe find the name of the club Genie was searching for.

Lenne laughed at the joke, hoping that the clubs she was expected to carry around would soon cease to multiply. She took a moment to attempt to lift it, nearly going cross-eyed with the effort. Oh goodness. She blushed for a brief moment, hoping that Genie hadn't noticed her weakness, but it soon passed and she determined she wouldn't try lifting it again until they were all done filling it with her needed equipment.

"What else am I going to need besides all these clubs?" she asked, nearly regretting the question, hoping everything else would be much less intimidating in size.

Lenne could not help but giggle uncontrollably at the unfamiliar dialect Genie began to speak. However, the cart was SERIOUSLY impressive, and she absolutely loved it.

"Oh, it's PERFECT! And purple! How did you know?" she asked, beaming, immediately forgetting about her worries of lugging around all those clubs.

"Do I have everything I need, now?" she asked after a long while of oooos and aaahhhs, suddenly eager to get playing. There was nothing quite like looking the part to give one the confidence to play.

Lenne climbed into the cart, eyeing the pedals a bit warily, and memorizing the exact location of the aforementioned phone and blue button so that no matter how she may be flailing or flying to her doom she'd be able to hit it before her demise. She put her hands on the wheel and pretended to steer a bit, getting a feel for it.

"Thank you so much, Genie!" she told him, "I may be calling you quite a bit until I get the hang of things," she added honestly.

"Now... how do I get this thing started?" she asked sheepishly, after a very long moment of looking all over for a clue.

As Genie explained and turned the ignition key Lenne jumped a little when the engine roared to life. Oh goodness, the machina really did purr, in a way. She could tell it was powerful, and she began to wonder if Genie was serious and maybe the cart could literally fly... or maybe it was just that fast. She looked down at her feet, memorizing where the pedals were. One for each foot? Perfect. Hopefully she wouldn't push both at once, that couldn't possibly end well.

She gave the genie another bright, grateful smile. "Thanks for everything! Hopefully I won't destroy this machina entirely," she apologized in advance, a bit sheepishly. She had very little experience with mechanical things, and what experience she did have was... well, not good.

She grasped the steering wheel firmly, looking straight ahead, and very, very timidly pressed down the gas pedal just a smidge. The cart began to just barely crawl, engine protesting at her caution. So, she pressed down a little harder and the cart lurched painfully as she chickened out and took her foot off the gas, slamming down on the break with her left.

"Oh, dear, I'm sorry!" she apologized to the cart, and Genie. Oh well, here goes again... This time she was a little less timid, getting the cart up to a steady 5 miles per hour before abusing the break again.

This was going to be a long day, wasn't it.

Lenne's driving quickly improved, and she was grateful for the seatbelts, too, seeing as her erratic driving most likely would have given her a concussion otherwise. She drove around in circles for a bit, admittedly embarrassing, but she needed to get the hang of the contraption. After a few more minutes, and getting used to the sensitivity of the pedals, she sped off confidently for the first hole.

After watching another woman play who, even in Lenne's eyes, might have been distractingly under-dressed (thought enviably attractive), she felt she might have a solid hold on how the game was played. She set up her tee, fished out a ball that seemed like it was ready for the whacking, and selected a club at random, that she hoped was something like the one she'd just seen the other woman use.

Whack! And there it flew! Surprisingly straight, but it rolled well past the hole she had thought she'd been aiming for. Oh well. She danced her way on over to it and gave it another well-measured try, and very much to her surprise, in it went! She gave a happy cry and danced a bit, for a moment forgetting the potential audience of other players. Oops. With a slight blush, she picked up her ball and club and made her way back to her cart, making sure to mark her score correctly on the card. Now, where was that next hole...
