The Genie Golf Classic
Character(s): Everyone who entered into the tournament.
Content: GOLF!
Setting: Starts at Joutenheim outside the city and works itself back in ending at City Hall.
Time: Week 8, Morning
Warnings: Watch for flying balls ;)
"Good morning and welcome to the first annual Genie Golf Classic. It’s a beautiful day just outside the city of Paixao here on the mysterious but equally as gorgeous island. Unfortunately due to legal purposes it is to remain unnamed for the time being so for those of you watching our live feed at home put the maps away and find yourself another vacation spot. I suggest Abu Dhabi, someone needs to bring Nermal back home.
The sun is out and it’s hitting you at total of seventy five degrease Fahrenheit. Wind’s coming at you at three miles an hour, just south east with a relative humidity of thirty percent. Whoo! Hope you brought your sunscreen kids, it’s gunna be a hot one. For those of you who forgot to bring a beverage we do have a stand set up at the checkpoint with both free food and drink. That’s gunna be the sixth hole, just outside the Niflheim gate. Get ‘em while they last. Back inside the domes it looks as though we might be seeing some thundershowers this afternoon with a high chance of belligerent Org. members. Do be careful out there and don’t hesitate to call if you run into any trouble.
Things are about to get underway. We ask that all golfers that haven’t already please report to the first hole for full registration to receive maps, clubs, and more. The game will be underway in a few moments from now. So far we can look forward to seeing such notable personalities out on the green today as President Naja Salaheem of the Salaheem Sentinels and Urd, Goddess of Love. We also have the Doctor accompanied by his lovely lady friends, Jecht, Ivan, and more! Who will you meet on the green today?
Here’s a reminder for all you out there that the winner of today’s game will be awarded our super awesome ultra fantastic secret grand prize. What is it? Win and find out!
Before we begin a quick reminder of the rules is in order. We have a lot of new players with us today so we want to do our best to help play the game as well as enjoy themselves. It also never hurts to refresh yourself. A complete but brief explanation of the rules of the game can be found at the first hole along with all the necessary course maps. To be very, very brief, your objective for today is to get your ball into all the holes on the course using your clubs in as few swings as possible. Count your clubs before you begin; you are only allowed a total of fourteen. Also, remember to play the ball as it lies. This is very important. Respect your opponents and practise good etiquette. Most importantly HAVE FUN!
As a closing note, I feel I need not remind anyone that there is no tolerance for endangering another player’s wellbeing. Anyone who does so will face very strict and harsh penalties by me. If you run into any trouble on the course today don’t hesitate to summon me by either the alarm found on your cart or golf bag. I have several scouts spread out across the course and will also be patrolling the area to ensure safety to all our players.
Right! Now with that all out of the way, get out there, have fun, and buy a souvenir t-shirt!"
[ooc: All maps and information are posted in the ooc here. If you have any questions feel free to ask them there. Also, here is a useful guide to golf that might come in handy for those who are not completely familiar with the game like myself.]

Fourth Hole: [I10]

“It just had to be golf.” He grumbled after pulling himself out of his cart and managed to drag both his bag and himself onto the green. “What was wrong with ultimate Frisbee or cup stacking? Those are both fun. Those are both sports. Why did I pick golf, why?!”
no subject
"Genie..." she began cautiously, the amusement in her voice less obvious, though still present. "Why don't you relax a bit? There are still a ton of holes left. Who knows what'll happen?"
no subject
“Alright,” He said in defeat, “I’ll give it a try but I’m not making any promises.”
Hesitantly he removed a club from his bag and placed his tee and ball on the green. "Serenity... Serenity." The genie told himself, hoping to calm his nerves. "You are the blue ocean. Woooosssshhhh!” Other than a small shuffle to line himself up with the hole the genie did not bother to measure or practise his swing before making his shot. As nothing but a white blur the ball flew straight into one of the birdhouses alongside the course, smashing it to pieces.
“I don’t think is going to work.”

Genie summoned a new ball onto his tee while choosing a new club from his bag. “Alright, let’s try this again.” He told himself, lining himself up once more with the hole. Before he took his shot however he turned to glance at the goddess, at the moment all signs of his previous anger gone – at least until he swung. This time his ball made it onto the green, for a second or two, before hitting a tree and flying back toward him. By ducking he just missed it, though the same could not be said for his cart. The alarm sounded after the ball came in contact with it.
"I give up!" the jinni cried and threw his club aside. "You win."

"Come on, Genie," she said gently, one hand on his shoulder. "You're not the kind of man who gives up halfway through something, are you?" She pressed the club into his hand, tilting her head to let the loose bangs from her ponytail fall away from her eyes. "Look, if you want the truth, my game hasn't been the best either. The last shot was just lucky, probably." She looked away, toying with her hair to hide her embarassment. "I've really been looking forward to playing with you."

Finally he turned his gaze to Urd, mention of her desire to play with him catching his interest. “I’ve been looking forward to playing with you too.” He admitted, the fury he had previously shown completely absent. However, as soon as it was gone it was back again. “But I don’t see the why it’s necessary to continue after the way things have been going.” Genie continued through grit teeth.

She sighed and whirled around, poking a manicured finger at Genie's chest. "And if you're going to act like this, you can forget our bet, too!" Scowling, she gathered her things and flew quickly down the green where her ball waited.

Minutes passed before Genie peeked over his shoulder to check up on Urd. Regardless how hard he tried he had to admit she was right. This was all incredibly childish, even for him. He knew better than this and simply could not bear the thought that he had ruined something they had both been looking forward to for so long. Guilt set in, forcing him to pick up his club and ball again. Yet another try was in order.
With a little help, another ball landed beside Urd’s on the green. It tapped against it lightly but nothing more before the genies voice rose from behind the goddess. “I’m sorry.”

Her thoughts were broken by Genie's ball bouncing next to her. She blinked, turning to face him with a wary look. For a few tense seconds, it couldn't be said how she'd react, but she finally gave him a small smile. "Don't worry about it," she replied, ducking her head slightly and chuckling a soft, self-deprecating laugh. "I riled you up...I'm sorry for being so obnoxious earlier."

With that, she stepped up to her ball. Taking her cue from the djinn, she crouched low to the grass and lined up her shot, eyes narrowed as she focused. She didn't whip out any measuring instruments, though...Urd did a lot better when she just went with the flow, relying on chance. She stood up abruptly, smiling an easy, casual smile and hit the ball.
It flew through the air briefly through the air, bouncing near the hole. It rolled to a slow stop at the edge of the hole and Urd leaned forward, face intense. "Come on! Go! Get in!" she yelled, moving her hands frantically. As if it understood her, the ball finally klunked inside the hole.
She cheered, jumping up with one fist upraised. "Yes!"

He waited until Urd took her shot before switching balls. While doing so he found himself standing on the edge of his feet, watching her ball linger by the hole before it finally fell in. Part of him had hoped it would stay put but he cheered with the goddess regardless when the ball sunk. “Nice shot.” He commented before opening his bag and exchanging balls. Though it seemed silly Genie was sure he would hold onto the lipstick marked ball, at the very least a memento of the event. As if it weren’t obvious enough from the boxed items in his room, the djinn was absolutely crazy for souvenirs.
After a moment of thought, Genie removed a putter from his bag and carefully lined his club with the hole. His tongue stuck out of his mouth while he squeezed an eye shut in concentration. In one smooth and gentle movement he tapped the ball which looked as though it would have sunk into the hole before rolling past it, down the hill, past the bird houses and into the untamed field. Unsurprisingly the djinn didn’t look so cool anymore.

Once again forgoing the slower transportation of walking, she flew casually to the ball, gesturing for Genie to follow her.

“Hu.” The djinn said and looked at his club curiously. After a moment he turned to face the goddess. “You wouldn’t happen to have used magic, have you?” he asked suspiciously. “Because rule thirty six, paragraph seven in the rules clearly states that magic in prohibited when it comes to manipulation of any objects that may influence the game, including the course itself.” Genie paused for a moment, looking away from the official documents he had been reading from. "Otherwise thanks, I think I get it now."

"Anyway, I told you, I practiced a lot!" Urd went on quickly, tossing her ponytail with casual, likely unconscious arrogance. "Stop being so suspicious." She nearly pouted now, folding her arms and slanting the djinn a put upon look. "I wouldn't cheat with you, Genie. How can I tell how our abilities stack up if I don't play it straight?"

"If you don't want to, you don't even have to make me dinner." Her voice grew quiet as she turned away, but not before giving him a brief, reassuring smile. "I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to call the whole thing off."

Genie shook his head once he had realized he’d been staring at the goddess. He cleared his throat before speaking. “No, I couldn’t do that. I owe it to you after I dragged you all the way out here and made you go through all the trouble of helping me. Not to mention putting up with me! When it comes to sports I tend to get… Well, you know.” The jinni smiled and looked away in embarrassment.

She turned away, gathering up her golf equipment. She grinned at Genie over her shoulder, eyes lit with mischief and flirtatious good humor. "You better make me something delicious!"
