Dragoon and Gunner [active]
Character(s): Cid, Vincent, and Lara
Content: Friends getting together for a little talk
Setting: Cid's shop
Time: Shortly after this thread
Warnings: Cid.
If you asked Cid, it was about damned time that someone else showed up. Or well. Someone who wasn't ShinRa, or that weirdly young Cloud Zack had hauled into that one meeting. Even if it was the damned spook of the bunch.
Still, better a spook than no one, and he had been missing the rest of them lately. Hell, maybe it would even help make up for the lack of a sky, or any of his ships. But before that, there were a few things to grill Vince on. This 'Omega' thing for one. And possibly also this army thing.

Sometimes, he had the strangest friends.
The front door opened slightly, the Ex-Turk's crimson gaze trailing around the room for any sign of the mechanic. If he knew Cid as well as he did, he wouldn't have gotten too far. The man was impatient, sure, but he doubted he'd leave when he knew of his arrival. Making sure to hold the door open for Lara, he called out.
"Cid?"
no subject
When the red-eyed man opened the door for her, she smiled in thanks and stepped inside. "Vincent Valentine, I presume," she said as she walked inside, then turned back to look at him, waiting for Cid to respond.
no subject
Whether or not he'd have the answer to whatever questions crossed Vincent's mind was something yet to be seen, but hell. He'd give it his best and that was all there was to it.
Although Vincent could certainly have timed his arrival better. It wasn't his fault he'd gotten bored and wandered off to work more on his ongoing projects. Well. Okay, technically it was, but like hell was he going to mention.
"Just a moment," he hollered back, putting down the screwdriver and wiping his hands off on the nearest mostly-clean surface (in this case, the jacket tied around his waist). A few more grease stains wouldn't hurt it. Much. And with that taken care of, he wandered back out into the main area of the shop.
"Said I'd be here, didn't I?"
*f-fails so sorry for the holdup*
Cid, who didn't remember the whole Deepground situation, or Omega, or... anything, really. Perhaps upon the Weapon's defeat, the memories of those who'd encountered it were erased, to prevent it from happening again. And he'd only been preserved because of Chaos. But still... it didn't seem quite right. Something was very off about this entire thing...
"...good to see you, old friend." He added quietly, before nodding to the woman at his side. "Lara. Though I'm not sure if you've met. You both know more about this place than I do."
It's okay! <3 No worries~
"It's a pleasure to meet you," she greeted, but said no more for the moment; she'd allow the two men to get to the basics before that. She was here for input, true, but she wasn't about to go butting into anyone else's business where she wasn't needed. She'd read up on both of them over the journals, of course; and it seemed they were quite capable, which was good in a place like this (or, indeed, any place). And maybe Cid knew as much of the Organization and the goings-n in the city as she did - or more. One never knew.
no subject
"Might've seen her on the journals," he admitted after a pause. "Not in person, though."
Admittedly, that might have been because he hadn't been stepping foot out of his workshop lately, but dammit all, what he was working on was important. If he could just get a decently working set of supplies he might be on to something, but so far it hadn't been going too well. Not that he'd been letting that stop him.
"Good to have someone who's not ShinRa around," he added a moment later, in what was likely the closest he'd get to saying 'good to see you too'.
no subject
But the other organization...
"Speaking of which..." He began carefully, not exactly wanting to pry. "What organizations are you familiar with so far? From back home?"
He'd already clarified that over the network, but he just had to make sure.
no subject
For now, Lara would listen, and fill in any holes she heard in Cid's story with what she knew. There was no need for two people to be chattering about the same thing all at once, after all.
no subject
But then again, the only person who knew who was in WRO was Reeve, so for all he really knew one of them could snuck in underneath his radar. He wouldn't have even had any damned idea they were around if thy didn't mention something specific to their world.
But these were things that Vincent didn't need to know about. They'd just get the conversation a hell of a lot more confusing than it already was.
no subject
Great. This was looking rather hopeless, wasn't it?
Sighing, the red-cloaked man leaned against a nearby wall. Might as well get comfortable if this conversation was going to take awhile. "Have there been any attempts to willingly leave the city? Any movements formed here?"
no subject
She did, of course, know the answers to Vincent's question, but once again remained silent, seeing how much Cid knew before she stepped in. And who knew? She might not be needed at all.
no subject
"Attempts to leave the city ain't really gotten anywhere, last I'd heard. And as for movements, you basically just got the Resistance working against the Organization. You heard anything about them?"
If not, well, he could probably manage to explain.
no subject
This... Organization. Huh.
Even if he didn't like the answer, he would find out anyway. Not all truth was sunshine and rainbow Chocobos, especially if it involved some shady group called the 'Organization'.
"No. Who are they?" Straight to the point. He was going to find out everything here, whether people wanted to tell him or not. And if Cid didn't have the whole story, well. That was also why Lara was here as well. "What happened to you both since you've been here?" He tacked on, hoping it would help.
no subject
"I'm afraid I don't know much about the Resistance," Lara replied, "but I've been to St. Destino a few times and helped in the discovery of Destiny Islands. I also had the... shall we say, distinct pleasure of attending Hades' party." She chuckled a little, remembering the Heartless. "Needless to say, there's been quite a lot going on in this city."
no subject
"The Resistance is mostly a bunch of people lookin' to get rid of the Organization. Led by someone we know, actually."
Someone they knew as being both a pyschopath and dead, but that little revelation could wait.
"As for the Organization..." Cid shook his head. "Buncha nutters. Been charged with kidnappings and worse, if you listen to the damned rumors."
no subject
Someone they knew? It could have been a number of people, if it was mostly those they didn't like. Rufus Shinra, perhaps. If he was the one Cid was referring to by having ShinRa-types here. Or it could have been someone else. As much as he dreaded finding out, he turned his attention back to the pilot. "Should I be afraid to ask who it is?"
Then there was the Organization; from the decription, it seemed a fitting name for people like that. Ruthless, relentless, with a vague and 'mysterious' title. Nothing he hadn't handled before. "How many reported kidnappings have there been so far? Any successful attempts at knocking a dent into the group?"
no subject
Lara was silent once more as Vincent's attention was drawn back to Cid. She wanted to hear more about the Organization, too, especially after what Larxene had done to her and Sonic. One could never be too careful, after all.
no subject
"There's been at least two 'batches' of them, for lack of a better term. Unannounced, except for the fact that people just kinda up and vanish. They usually turn up later, but kinda out of it. Haveta ask someone else about the details."
After all, he'd never been too big on asking, and hadn't really known any of the people who'd gotten kidnapped.
"As for knocking 'em down a pegs or two, they've been getting way too damned hard to find. Wised up to the game and 'went native'. Can't even fucking tell where they are."
no subject
Seemed this world had more ways of twisting things than one.
"Then I don't think he's the one you should be keeping an eye on." The ex-Turk adviced carefully. "How do you know he's not just a distraction? Have there been any movements to hunt down the other two?" A surprise attack was worse than a frontal attack, after all. More people wind up dead.
'Nuts shortly followed by dead'. Oh, wonderful, if it was the person he was thinking about. A resistance movement formed in the city, and he's leading it. Things just seemed to be getting worse and worse in this place, hadn't they? "...Sephiroth's here?"
And the group was hiding out in broad daylight. That raised the red-cloaked man's suspicions some, as crimson eyes trailed back to Lara not too far off. If it could have been anyone, and she had seemed so eager to join them in this meeting...
Maybe it was best they didn't say more.
no subject
She listened patiently, taking in the information... and then Vincent gave her that look. Lara was rather used to that by now; that "I'm watching you" glance that said everything. Lara sighed at him. "You don't honestly believe that I'm one of them, do you?" she asked im, amused and mildly offended at the idea. "If I were after someone, that someone would most likely know it." Lara being after something was another matter, but they didn't need to know that.
no subject
Although he had to admit (even if only to himself) that he was certainly doing an excellent of making himself seem sane, if nothing else. But he wasn't going to trust 'seemed'. Not when the man could easily have been faking to get into their good graces.
"There's ... thirteen of 'em? Some small number. Makes it easier for 'em to hide."
no subject
It wasn't like they could believe anything Sephiroth would tell them - there had been that bullcrap about Cloud being nothing but his clone, after all. - but who was to say here, if people were from different times? He'd heard the reports, that Sephiroth actually had a calm, coherent mind at one point, so maybe he was ripped from that time. If so... this could work to their advantage. Though he knew the guilt of having the-son-that-could-have-been would be a problem for him. "If people are from different times here... who knows? Sephiroth on our side would be... interesting, at least."
Thirteen. Huh. Maybe there was some kind of clue in their appearance of behaviour that led them on. "Have there been any... slip-ups yet? Any clues to try to weed them out?"
no subject
As for the Organization, well, Lara had her own ideas about them - but it was better to remain silent on the matter until they revealed anything for certain. There had just been the kidnappings as well as Larxene's own pointless attack on Lara... but there had to be something else beyond it all. Of course there was.
no subject
Or never, if he ended up forgetting about it in the meantime, but this was perfectly fine by him.
"Used to be they all wore black ... cloaks, I think? But then the bastards wised up. Won't find 'em wearing anything damned similar any more. That or they've gone in the deep hiding." He was inclined to believe the former, though.
no subject
He nodded once, taking in the information and dreading the fact that this was going to be far more difficult than it needed to be. But he would manage. There was always a clue to anyone trying to blend into society that gave their position away. Even if it was the smallest puff of breath, there was always something. "We need to drive them out of hiding somehow. What can you tell me about any of their behaviours?"
no subject
With that, she left, her brows drawn together in thought. If this kept up, Lara might not be able to remain as neutral as she wished.
no subject
Sadly, the other question was harder to answer. "Too damned secretive," he grumbled. "Might try asking around but who the fuck knows how secure the journals are. Some of the people who've been here longer might know something."
Even if he really didn't like to admit it. There was too damned much he didn't know and nothing he could really do about it. Besides, he had a shop to run and that was still something of a surprise after all this time. Him. A shopkeeper.
He did manage to offer a politeish nod to Lara as she left, though. Strange woman, leaving when they were just getting down to business. But hell, it wasn't his place to stop her.
no subject
He trusted Cid. They were good friends, and that would never change.
Blinking a bit, the ex-Turk turned to find Lara opting to leave. While it was a bit surprising, it was also... something wasn't right here. She left as soon as they started talking. She claimed to have not been with the Organization, but it seemed like she had gotten the information she needed. Shit. He should have known better.
He turned back to Cid. "...more privacy here is good. Let's work on that."
no subject
Right. That Organization thing. Damned paranoid spook. Everyone in the damned city couldn't be one of the enemy and okay so he wasn't the best judge of character but he was pretty sure she wasn't one of them. After all, there had to be some way of telling one of them from just another person.
"Pretty sure she ain't one," he grumbled. "It's thirteen out of hundreds. You ain't gonna meet one every damned day."
Hopefully.
"Might wanna try Timon. Pretty sure he's got an idea on where to start anyway."
no subject
On to business.
"...Timon?" That had been a new name, anyway. Better this man than a murderer they all knew, and it would be easier to speak with this man rather than one able to drive a ten foot sword through your head. "Who is that?"
no subject
The fact that Timon wasn't exactly a man? Well, he'd let Vincent find that part out on his own. Besides, he should be sort of used to the idea, after all that time spent with Red.
"You can probably find him on the journals."
no subject
"You can find anyone on the journals." He shrugged, sighing a little. "Is there anything specfic to note about this guy so I can keep an eye out? Aside from being a loudmouth."
Gods knew there were probably more where he came from, anyway.
no subject
"He ain't exactly what he seems. But who the hell is in this place. Damn confusing, if you ask me."
But if you ignored enough of it, it managed to work out tolerably well. At least for him anyway.
no subject
"He could be found on the journals, right?" He asked, after a few moments. "I should start looking sometime soon. Arrange a meeting if we can. We can't just sit here and twiddle our thumbs."
He was never truly finished with things, even after death, was he?
no subject
If they weren't, then it wasn't gonna do a damned thing. They had to have one to see the post and it wasn't like anyone outside of this messed up little city-world-thing had one. Hell, he'd tried a few times earlier on and gotten nothing for his efforts.
"I got a shop to run, case you hadn't noticed. Can't be haring off, lookin' for shadow-spooks. Did enough of that last time."
But he would... probably end up coming along anyway, if it looked like he was needed.
no subject
...shadow-spooks? 'Last time'? Just what exactly had Cid been up to lately? "You've been having fun without me?" He added flatly, meaning to be in a joking manner. "What happened, Cid?" He realized he should have left to find a computer by now... but there was quite possibly a part of him that hadn't truly died. A part that was... concerned.
Cid was a friend. He wouldn't stand by and let anything happen if he could help it.
no subject
It had been... strange, to say the least, to say nothing of the people who were sure they'd known him from somewhere he'd never even heard of before. Strange, unsettling, and very very disturbing, if he thought about it for too long.
"Oh. And Rufus Shinra used to be here."
no subject
But then that faint joy deflated at the mention of that name. "What'd he do?" Slipped accusingly out of his mouth, like an annoyed parent with disobedient children.
no subject
"You think I payed attention to the man. He just showed up to some... meeting thing. With that Turk of his in tow. Wasn't exactly fun either."
Shinra, a Turk, Sephiroth and him in an enclosed space. The nuilding had been lucky to still be standing, really.
no subject
Chaos, panic, trouble, pain, annoyance... some of the many words flowing through his head at that moment. But what else could he say?
no subject
"We talked. Him and that Turk of his, and Sephiroth and some dead SOLDIER guy. And me. Mostly about the resistance, really."
And Rufus had tried to recruit him again, but that was neither here nor there, really.
...oh my god that icon dude. <3
...he really hoped it was just left at sarcasm.
But there was the mention of that Resistance thing again. Ignoring the fact that it was apparently being led by Sephiroth, it sounded like a good idea to pitch in and try to find some way to break out of their prison. If the attempts failed, they could at least say they tried. "By the way... how does one go about joining this Resistance?" He asked, though the next part was more muttered than anything, "...without having to ask Sephiroth."
He just arrived. He didn't want to have to deal with that again so soon.
no subject
"You could try asking on the journals? There's bound to be someone who knows something."
He'd have pointed Vincent in the right direction himself but he was only very vaguely affiliated with the Resistance. It was certainly a good idea but... there were slight issues with some of the people involved.
no subject
There wasn't really much more they could go over, so he offered a silent nod of confirmation, beginning to head for the door. "I should get started, then."
But then he stopped, back still turned towards the other man. "Cid. Thanks."
no subject
"Tell me how it goes." After all, he might not have much interest in helping out but he was at least mildly curious about how things went. Besides, Vincent would likely be able to do better at it anyway.
Hopefully.
"It's what friends do." Because like hell was he actually saying 'you're welcome'.
