Oh, this is just great

Character(s): Karrin Murphy, Cid Highwind, OPEN
Content: On her way to work the Chicago cop ends up somewhere she never expected to
Setting: Vanaheim
Time: Week 2, morning
Warnings: none

Karrin was not happy by any stretch of the imagination. She just stared at the little PDA device thing in her hand and then back at the man explaining this place to her. Karrin frowned, brow furrowing as she stored all this information away. This was ridiculous, how the hell did she go from walking to the CPD to walking through a giant gate decorated by two large, very fake trees. She would have blamed Harry, everything told her this was something in his department of weird, but he had been no where NEAR her when it had happened. Was she being targeted again? It could be, it wouldn’t be the first time someone had clued in to her connection to Harry and used it against him.

Finally she sighed, “Alright, so, let me get this straight. You’re telling me you’ve never heard of Chicago and that I’ve somehow wound up in a city with freaking domes over it that randomly does this to a lot of people and that there is no way back to said city you don’t know?” When the man nodded she muttered a curse word, feeling the insane urge to punch this man but knew it wouldn’t do much good, at least she didn’t think it would. She counted to ten in her head, which was supposed to work, right? She reached up and rubbed the bridge of her nose, ‘This place better have Advil,’ she thought.

Karrin huffed, “Alright. Can you at least tell me if you know anyone by the name of Harry Dresden here?” The man seemed to think about it for a moment before shrugging and saying he didn’t keep track of things like that…though the name Harry sounded familiar. Karrin waved it off, “Thanks. I’d also like to know if this place has a police department of some kind I can get in touch with…or any sort of law enforcement.” When the man gave her a funny look she couldn’t help but quirk an eyebrow and then sigh, “You know what…never mind.” At least she had her gun, that was a plus, although that also brought up the question as to whether or not this place even HAD ammunition.

Oh, this was turning out to be a wonderful day indeed…and when she had been heading into work it hadn’t even been 8:30 yet. Some days she really wondered why she didn’t just stay home…

Cid was, by and large, not a morning person. Admittedly, this was mostly due to his tendencies to stay up until all hours of the night working on his ships. But still, it was generally a rare sight indeed to seem him out and about so early, and really, he'd been just as surprised as anyone else would have been to find himself up so early.

But in the end he'd decided that he might as well make the most of the time he had, grabbing Venus Gospel down of its shelf and heading out to see where his feet would take him.

Several minutes and one train ride later, 'where his feet would take him' turned out to be one of the gates. Not too damned surprising, and what the hell he might as well see if anyone new had shown up (with the preference being to someone he knew).

(It says open, but if this doesn't work, let me know!)

Shalua had taken to wandering since she had arrived. She still hadn't quite figured out where she was going to end up living, but so far she'd been learning enough about the place that it didn't appear to be as big of a puzzle. It was still a puzzle, make no mistake; but now it at least had a piece or two in place.

Now she just needed to hear about Shelke and she'd be all ready.

Today, she had set out early, wandering through the city to one of the gates. She wasn't sure why exactly her feet had taken her here, but here she was and it appeared that people were still coming through all over. A slight frown creased Shalua's face as she noticed some who looked as confused as she had once been. One could argue that she was still that confused, but at least she didn't show it.

She was just close enough to hear the woman nearby start to speak. "I'm still figuring that out myself," she admitted, knowing the woman hadn't been addressing her, but figuring that someone may as well answer. "Sometimes a good walk around is the best guide, even with the map on the communicators."

Her single open eye trained itself on the woman, trying to see what her disposition was.

"You walk," Cid answered. "Or take one of the trains." Or sometimes even both but he didn't really think he'd have to mention that, given it was pretty damned obvious. Just his luck really, to find himself running into a pair of people that weren't anyone he would have looked for. That and he wasn't entirely sure what to make of the fact that seemed to attract people he wasn't terribly interested in talking to. First Rufus and that Turk of his and now some manner of scientist? It was damned annoying, if you asked him.

It was too damned early to start anything though, so he'd just settle for being grumpy until further notice.

"There's a place not too far from here."

[identity profile] armslifesupport.livejournal.com 2009-02-09 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Shalua had figured that answer was coming and she tossed her head to one side a little to show that she wasn't phased by his answer, nor amused. However, Mr. Grump himself there wasn't going to get much cooperation from her if he was going to stand there and, well, be grumpy.

What a wonderful person to run into at this hour.

"It appears that more and more arrive every day," Shalua answered, agreeing with the other woman's words as she stood there. Her left arm moved further behind the lab coat so that all her companions could see of it was the white glove on her hand.

"I was one of those who woke up here one day," she admitted, answering the last statement easily. "I had just spent time talking with the Commissioner and Vincent Valentine before Headquarters was attacked and I found myself here." Her single open eye blinked once as she looked at the other woman. "I take it you came here similarly?"

[identity profile] limitbreakpilot.livejournal.com 2009-02-10 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well of course he damned well wasn't from here. This wasn't the Planet even if he did look a hell of a lot more like the 'citizens' of the city than he'd really like.

"Southeast of here," Cid answered. "It's called 'Cafe Ersesat'."

Sadly, Murphy's question about whether or not he was a native of the place (and he wasn't) would have to wait. There was something else that needed his attention first.

"How the hell do you know Vincent?"

[identity profile] armslifesupport.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Shalua's gaze went from the man back to the woman before her and she shook her head gently. "I haven't been here long, myself, but if I run into him, I'll let you know."

The man's last words took her attention back again and her good hand twitched by her side. There was no use pulling a gun on someone who hadn't shown himself in need of it, grumpy though he was.

"He's helped the Commissioner on several occasions so far regarding our projects," she answered carefully, single open eye narrowed. "He and I have spoken before. Do you know him?"

[identity profile] limitbreakpilot.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Did he know Vincent? Of course he knew Vincent. Hell, he'd even helped out with the whole let's-kill-Sephiroth thing. "Course I know him," he answered. He wasn't too damned pleased with the fact that Vince had somehow got himself messed up in yet another scientist's 'projects,' but he'd keep that to himself for the time being.

A moment or so later the fact that there'd been another question finally shoved enough of the grumpiness and annoyance out of the way to properly register. "Can't say the name's familiar."

[identity profile] armslifesupport.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Something in Shalua's expression softened as she glanced over at the other woman. Something in her felt badly that she couldn't help any, and she made a mental note to help out later. Maybe they could do a joint search later.

Shaking herself a litle inwardly, she returned her attention to the man. "You may know how by the name Reeve Tuesti. Those who work for the WRO under his guidance call him the Commissioner."

She turned herself back to the woman then. "I'm searching as well. Perhaps a joint effort could work."

[identity profile] limitbreakpilot.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Reeve. It figured he'd be involved somehow. Of course the comment brought just as many answers as it solved. Like why the hell Vincent was running around with the WRO for one. Or hell, even why the WRO needed him. There hadn't been anything really important since Cloud had taken down the remnants, so why the fuck were they bothering?

"What the hell's he been poking his nose into this time?" Grumpy yes, as he'd been more or less throughout the entire conversation, but it wasn't outright angry. More a bit curious and a lot mildly annoyed.

[identity profile] armslifesupport.livejournal.com 2009-02-17 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Shalua's eye moved to Karrin and she nodded once at the device. "That might be a good way to start. It seems to contact a large number of people at once. I have yet to discover exactly what or how it works, but as long as it does, that seems to be the main thing of importance."

When the name Vincent popped up again, however, Shalua returned her attention to the man before her. "Reeve? He's helping to restore the Planet after Meteorfall and the Remnants. But now there's Deepground to worry about." She reached one hand, her good right one, up to her temple to massage it for a moment before she let it fall to her side again. Her left arm was still completely concealed by her lab coat, which was just how she wanted it right now.

[identity profile] limitbreakpilot.livejournal.com 2009-02-18 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Meteorfall and the Remnants, that Cid knew about. How could he not know about them. He'd only lent his airship to the cause, after all. Deepground, on the other hand, was something he'd never heard about, and he liked to think he was pretty up to date on current affairs. Clearly he'd though wrong, although he wasn't particularly likely to admit that.

"The hell's a 'Deepground'?"

[identity profile] armslifesupport.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Shalua's single open eye narrowed slightly at Cid. How out of the loop was he? Granted, not much was known about Deepground, but still. If he knew Reeve, chances were he'd heard. Then again, this place seemed to mess with things and the people around.

"That's a bit more of an explanation than I care to give right now." Her mind flashed back to the very last memory she had of the WRO headquarters. Had it really been...? No, probably just a trick of the light. She shook herself inwardly and glanced back at the woman.

"Let me guess. Meteorfall and the Remnants?" Her voice was devoid of any malice or sarcasm. Being a scientist-type, she believed that information was always of use to anyone who needed it. If they asked, she would explain, or let the man explain.

[identity profile] limitbreakpilot.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Technically, Cid knew Reeve. But it hadn't ever been more than a temporary alliance for the sake of stopping Sephiroth and really, he hadn't seen the man much since he'd gone off to work on whatever the hell WRO worked on. He'd never cared to ask, and really, as long as he had his ships, he was happy enough.

"Give it later, then," he grumbled.

As for Murphy's question, he'd just leave it for now, since Shalua had answered at least part of it for the time being.

[identity profile] armslifesupport.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Shalua lifted her good hand and placed it to her forehead for a moment as she turned and began pacing slowly. Her mind was working, turning over what to say and how to best explain all of this.

"To put it simply, Meteorfall occurred when a man named Sephiroth used the Black Materia to call down a Meteor that was supposed to tear a giant hole in the Planet's surface, like what Jenova did many years before." She'd heard about it all from Reeve a while ago. "His plan was to use the energy gathered at the heart of the injury and fulfill Jenova's plans. He was eventually stopped and Meteor was banished, but it nearly leveled the metropolis of Midgar in the process. The Remnants came a year later and were said to be remnants of Sephiroth himself, pieces of him. They were also carrying out Jenova's legacy before they.. disappeared." She honestly didn't know much about that and wondered vaguely if Cid did. "You'll have to find Cloud to explain more if you're still curious."

[identity profile] limitbreakpilot.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Did he know much about the remnants? Not in so many words, at least. He'd heard something of who they were and what they'd been up to, but hadn't really been in close proximity to them. That had largely been left to Cloud.

Which was part of the dammned problem. The Cloud here wasn't the Cloud he'd known. The timeline'd been all shot to hell or something like that.

"The Cloud here doesn't know a dammned thing about 'em," he answered, just as blunt as ever.
