Oh, this is just great
Character(s): Karrin Murphy, Cid Highwind, OPEN
Content: On her way to work the Chicago cop ends up somewhere she never expected to
Setting: Vanaheim
Time: Week 2, morning
Warnings: none
Karrin was not happy by any stretch of the imagination. She just stared at the little PDA device thing in her hand and then back at the man explaining this place to her. Karrin frowned, brow furrowing as she stored all this information away. This was ridiculous, how the hell did she go from walking to the CPD to walking through a giant gate decorated by two large, very fake trees. She would have blamed Harry, everything told her this was something in his department of weird, but he had been no where NEAR her when it had happened. Was she being targeted again? It could be, it wouldn’t be the first time someone had clued in to her connection to Harry and used it against him.
Finally she sighed, “Alright, so, let me get this straight. You’re telling me you’ve never heard of Chicago and that I’ve somehow wound up in a city with freaking domes over it that randomly does this to a lot of people and that there is no way back to said city you don’t know?” When the man nodded she muttered a curse word, feeling the insane urge to punch this man but knew it wouldn’t do much good, at least she didn’t think it would. She counted to ten in her head, which was supposed to work, right? She reached up and rubbed the bridge of her nose, ‘This place better have Advil,’ she thought.
Karrin huffed, “Alright. Can you at least tell me if you know anyone by the name of Harry Dresden here?” The man seemed to think about it for a moment before shrugging and saying he didn’t keep track of things like that…though the name Harry sounded familiar. Karrin waved it off, “Thanks. I’d also like to know if this place has a police department of some kind I can get in touch with…or any sort of law enforcement.” When the man gave her a funny look she couldn’t help but quirk an eyebrow and then sigh, “You know what…never mind.” At least she had her gun, that was a plus, although that also brought up the question as to whether or not this place even HAD ammunition.
Oh, this was turning out to be a wonderful day indeed…and when she had been heading into work it hadn’t even been 8:30 yet. Some days she really wondered why she didn’t just stay home…

But in the end he'd decided that he might as well make the most of the time he had, grabbing Venus Gospel down of its shelf and heading out to see where his feet would take him.
Several minutes and one train ride later, 'where his feet would take him' turned out to be one of the gates. Not too damned surprising, and what the hell he might as well see if anyone new had shown up (with the preference being to someone he knew).

Karrin was about to just start walking to one of the nearest locations mentioned on the brochure's map when she noticed someone walking nearby who looked a little more sure of himself than the others mingling near the gate. It was a man about Harry's age or a little older and he didn't look all that happy. That was okay, Karrin wasn't too happy herself and she was used to dealing with people who weren't happy. She walked towards him, switching to her "cop voice," the voice she used when talking to her fellow officers, she didn't want to sound like a 'damsel in distress' (she could just HEAR Harry's smart ass comments about it), "Excuse me. Do you think you could tell me how to get around this place?" She paused for a moment before frowning slightly, "Maybe to a place with a good cup of joe, it is too early in the morning to be dealing with this crap."
(It says open, but if this doesn't work, let me know!)
Now she just needed to hear about Shelke and she'd be all ready.
Today, she had set out early, wandering through the city to one of the gates. She wasn't sure why exactly her feet had taken her here, but here she was and it appeared that people were still coming through all over. A slight frown creased Shalua's face as she noticed some who looked as confused as she had once been. One could argue that she was still that confused, but at least she didn't show it.
She was just close enough to hear the woman nearby start to speak. "I'm still figuring that out myself," she admitted, knowing the woman hadn't been addressing her, but figuring that someone may as well answer. "Sometimes a good walk around is the best guide, even with the map on the communicators."
Her single open eye trained itself on the woman, trying to see what her disposition was.

It was too damned early to start anything though, so he'd just settle for being grumpy until further notice.
"There's a place not too far from here."
no subject
Another woman stepped in on the conversation and Karrin put her hands in the pockets of her jacket, not at all bothered by the interruption, "Really? I take it people have been mysteriously showing up here for some time, now." That wasn't good, she didn't think the missing persons reports had gone up any significant number recently...especially since such mysterious disappearances would have been brought to S.I. Then again, if this was supernatural business who was to say it was only limited to Chicago (after all the guy back there hadn't even HEARD of Chicago).
"Can you give me a direction," she asked the man, he did say a place with coffee was nearby, it'd be helpful, "I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess neither of you are native to this place."
no subject
What a wonderful person to run into at this hour.
"It appears that more and more arrive every day," Shalua answered, agreeing with the other woman's words as she stood there. Her left arm moved further behind the lab coat so that all her companions could see of it was the white glove on her hand.
"I was one of those who woke up here one day," she admitted, answering the last statement easily. "I had just spent time talking with the Commissioner and Vincent Valentine before Headquarters was attacked and I found myself here." Her single open eye blinked once as she looked at the other woman. "I take it you came here similarly?"
no subject
"Southeast of here," Cid answered. "It's called 'Cafe Ersesat'."
Sadly, Murphy's question about whether or not he was a native of the place (and he wasn't) would have to wait. There was something else that needed his attention first.
"How the hell do you know Vincent?"
no subject
She could really use that coffee.
"If you guys want coffee too I'll pay you back for the help," she offered, "and...you wouldn't happen to know a Harry Dresden, too?"
no subject
The man's last words took her attention back again and her good hand twitched by her side. There was no use pulling a gun on someone who hadn't shown himself in need of it, grumpy though he was.
"He's helped the Commissioner on several occasions so far regarding our projects," she answered carefully, single open eye narrowed. "He and I have spoken before. Do you know him?"
no subject
A moment or so later the fact that there'd been another question finally shoved enough of the grumpiness and annoyance out of the way to properly register. "Can't say the name's familiar."
no subject
Wait, why was she HOPING he was here? Oh, right, cause he could probably explain this crazy shit. She huffed and looked between the two, there seemed to be some tension in the air over this Vincent guy.
no subject
Shaking herself a litle inwardly, she returned her attention to the man. "You may know how by the name Reeve Tuesti. Those who work for the WRO under his guidance call him the Commissioner."
She turned herself back to the woman then. "I'm searching as well. Perhaps a joint effort could work."
no subject
"What the hell's he been poking his nose into this time?" Grumpy yes, as he'd been more or less throughout the entire conversation, but it wasn't outright angry. More a bit curious and a lot mildly annoyed.
no subject
"You two can focus on this...Vincent guy though," Karrin replied, she was actually kind of curious since their reactions were rather interesting to the name. Although, not enough to really press any questions, she had no idea who Vincent was nor much about these two. Karrin looked at the device again and decided she'd go ahead and put out a request for Dresden.
no subject
When the name Vincent popped up again, however, Shalua returned her attention to the man before her. "Reeve? He's helping to restore the Planet after Meteorfall and the Remnants. But now there's Deepground to worry about." She reached one hand, her good right one, up to her temple to massage it for a moment before she let it fall to her side again. Her left arm was still completely concealed by her lab coat, which was just how she wanted it right now.
no subject
"The hell's a 'Deepground'?"
no subject
Her confusion showed on her face, clearly there was more strangeness going on that even she was used to (which was saying something), "Sorry but...a few of those terms didn't make sense to me."
no subject
"That's a bit more of an explanation than I care to give right now." Her mind flashed back to the very last memory she had of the WRO headquarters. Had it really been...? No, probably just a trick of the light. She shook herself inwardly and glanced back at the woman.
"Let me guess. Meteorfall and the Remnants?" Her voice was devoid of any malice or sarcasm. Being a scientist-type, she believed that information was always of use to anyone who needed it. If they asked, she would explain, or let the man explain.
no subject
"Give it later, then," he grumbled.
As for Murphy's question, he'd just leave it for now, since Shalua had answered at least part of it for the time being.

"To put it simply, Meteorfall occurred when a man named Sephiroth used the Black Materia to call down a Meteor that was supposed to tear a giant hole in the Planet's surface, like what Jenova did many years before." She'd heard about it all from Reeve a while ago. "His plan was to use the energy gathered at the heart of the injury and fulfill Jenova's plans. He was eventually stopped and Meteor was banished, but it nearly leveled the metropolis of Midgar in the process. The Remnants came a year later and were said to be remnants of Sephiroth himself, pieces of him. They were also carrying out Jenova's legacy before they.. disappeared." She honestly didn't know much about that and wondered vaguely if Cid did. "You'll have to find Cloud to explain more if you're still curious."
no subject
Which was part of the dammned problem. The Cloud here wasn't the Cloud he'd known. The timeline'd been all shot to hell or something like that.
"The Cloud here doesn't know a dammned thing about 'em," he answered, just as blunt as ever.
