New Friends [Active]

Character(s): Leslie and NiGHTS
Content: NiGHTS is playing around near Yuuko's shop and
Setting: Near Yuuko's shop.
Time: Afternoon.
Warnings: None.

NiGHTS was bored. For many that knew him, this could only ever mean one thing: trouble. He hadn't pranked anyone in a while, most of the people he knew had disappeared, and all there was to do in the city right now was fly. Or go inside, and NiGHTS hated that. So here and there flew the nightmaren, looking for something interesting to do, or someone to talk to.

If it kept up for too much longer, NiGHTS would have to cause some trouble. Perhaps he would prank or scare some unsuspecting citizens, or search for Elliot again. But for now, the nightmaren was content to whirl in midair above the buildings, gracefully spinning into the acrobatics that came so naturally to him.

Leslie was more than happy staying with Yuuko and Harry. The witch was a little strange at times, but Leslie found it refreshing. It was good to know that there were people with personality, especially after she'd seen so many of the other citizens of Paixao.

Harry was more fun, though. He told Leslie stories and listened to the ones she thought up. He reminded her a lot of an older Jesse--a bit reserved, but with an imagination that exceeded most expectations. It was good to have him around, to have that release of inspiration with him and to not be held back by things like physics.

He was fun to watch, too. He'd only done a few smaller magics so far, but even those were more than Leslie could have expected.

With permission to escape the shop for a little while and look around--though she was warned to stay close--Leslie skipped outside to observe the ceiling of the city. It was clear and blue, with only a few puffy clouds to add depth. And there was...

...someone flying?

Leslie blinked and looked again. Sure enough, there was a boy--albeit a tad strange looking--flying above the buildings. She couldn't help it, the simply clap of delight at seeing him. Flying!

Yep, definitely flying. She watched with excited amazement as he looped around, eventually coming to rest--still in the air--in front of her. Seemed pretty friendly, too.

"Hey!" Leslie replied, not bothering to hide her surprise. He didn't seem to have a jetpack or wings, but after meeting Yuuko, Harry, and Aerith--all users of some pretty awesome magic--it didn't surprise her nearly as much as it should have. Instead, she wondered if the place was allowing it, or if it just came naturally to the boy.

Maybe she could learn.

"You fly really well!" Best to start with the compliments.

As he bowed, Leslie gave a few more claps of approval. He probably got this kind of praise a lot, with such a talent, but everyone should be appreciated for what they had. All too often, Leslie had been on the wrong side of a friendship where the good wasn't appreciated and eventually led to separation. There were too many ways to bully a person using what they were good at...

"Your whole life?" She wondered how old he was. It was obvious that such a thing would take years to practice. He had to have gotten plenty of it.

"I'm Leslie!" she replied, smiling brightly. "What's yours?"

Leslie, indeed, found it impressive that he'd been flying so long. It took so long for humans to even start crawling, let along walking. Flying was...a no-go.

NiGHTS seemed to fit the boy pretty well, in costume and ability especially. A free-flowing name for a free-flowing personality. It was nice when they fit together like that.

"Do you fly around here a lot?" she asked, wondering what Paixao looked like from the air. With the ceilings, you probably couldn't fly too high, but if NiGHTS was used to flying even a simple glide around the city would work.

People here had such interesting backgrounds. A lot of them, for example, didn't seem to have any school life. Traditions were so much different from Leslie's as well. There was always something new to learn, to discover.

Would she like to try flying?? That was like, the understatement of the entire century. To see the city from above, to float through the air without hindrance, no worries over gravity.

Leslie nodded, smile wide and excited. "Would I ever!"

In all honesty, school could be boring, but there were so many new things to learn that Leslie often found herself soaking in the new information faster than a sponge absorbing spilled fruit punch. She might not use everything, but just the idea of a world of endless knowledge was enough to allow her to return to the classroom each day, refreshed and prepared to learn.

Flying was one of those new somethings. Wondering what her parents (or even Harry) might have to say to this, Leslie reached forward to grasp NiGHTS' hand with her own. "No pixie dust?"

The sensation was unlike anything she could have imagined. True, it was strange...dualizing? But flying...

She couldn't help smiling, closing her eyes for the moment. Weightless, unstoppable, carefree of gravity and everything else beneath them. There was no way her thoughts of flying could compare. Like reaching the top of a swing, to hover in the air for a moment before falling back down, except it was continuous. They didn't fall back down.

They flew.
