The first time he thought he'd seen something, he'd shrugged it off.

The second time, he thought it strange, but still hadn't thought anything much of it.

The third time, however, when Laharl caught sight of her disappearing into a crowded street, he'd really started to wonder. He'd been pretty sure it had been her he'd seen, even if he'd only seen her from the back and only at a glance. Still, he knew his own mother, even if it had been so long since he'd really seen her.

Laharl had searched around a little and even asked Rosette to keep an eye out, but still he could not seem to find her. He couldn't contain the feeling that it hadn't just been his imagination, however. He knew, after all, people could arrive here before their death. It had happened, so the possibility she could appear was there. Larxene had used that once already to her advantage, but it had just been a trick.

He was worried now it could just be Larxene, playing another trick on him. Messing with his head. He wouldn't put it past her. Then again, however, she hadn't said anything. Nothing. If it was her, he'd have expected her to say something. She wouldn't remain quiet.

Or maybe it was just his imagination.

He sighed, staring out the window of the damaged hotel. It was starting to look really bad. He wasn't sure how much longer they could stay here the rate things were going.

Hell, he wasn't sure what to do now, other than try to pursue the Organization. Sure, there was the resistance, but he'd been distracted lately by Etna's disappearance to give it much thought. Damnit, that vassal of his better be back safe in the Netherworld. He didn't think the Org had been the cause of her disappearance, but there was still that concern.

As he thought about things, something caught his eye, or rather someone. Down on the cobble street, people had been passing by as usual, but a figure stood out, that instantly drew his attention.

Laharl drew in a breath, as he beheld the familiar figure. A white dress... brown hair... Was it her? He didn't dare move, afraid the vision would disappear, but she stayed there, and even seemed to glance up at the hotel as if getting the feeling she was being watched.

The full sight of her face sent the young demon's head spinning. It... was her, his mother. Still, he found himself frozen until she looked away and turned, beginning to walk down the street.

No! He was going to lose her again! There was no way he could let her get away! Not this time!

Stumbling back from the window, Laharl quickly left the hotel room without a word to Flonne, dashing down the staircase and diving out the front door.

Vyers attempted to get a hold on her once again, but before he could stop her Laharl had struck.

He could only stare at his son for a moment, unable to believe what he had just done, but then a sudden sense of vertigo overcame him. He shut his eyes until the feeling left, and when he opened them again, the world had changed. It was the same, and yet different.

Had all that...? Had it all been a dream?

Vyers looked over to where his wife had landed, only to stare in horror at the strange, dark creature that had taken her place. What was this? Where was she? What was going on?!

It had all been fake. A dream--he should have known it was, and yet he had sorely wanted it to be real.

She hadn't been there at all. She'd never come.

His hands balled into shaky fists as he came to this realization and he stared at the ground in silence.

The smack of Laharl's fist into the creature was lost in a haze of emotion.

Fake. A fake. It was never real. She had never been there.

He'd felt angry at first. Angry at being deceived, angry with himself for believing so easily, just angry that it hadn't been her, and sad too. But now he almost felt... blank, unsure, unexplainable. Just hurt?

Vyers snapped back to attention at Laharl's voice, watching him in silence. Of course... Of course Laharl would be hurting worse. Vyers had been close to seeing her again, but his son...

And yet that somehow didn't make him feel much better.

"Laharl..." he whispered.

Vyers was almost shocked to see the tear begin to roll down his son's face, and his eyes softened a little, though he looked away.

He needed to say something or do something, he knew, but nothing came to mind. Vyers swallowed before he moved to sit next to Laharl. He was still unsure what to say--and whether or not anything he would say would have any effect (he didn't feel any better than Laharl after all), but it was all that he could do.

Vyers looked over, confused at Laharl's sudden outburst, but as his son began to search the room, it finally sunk in. Flonne was supposed to be in the room too, wasn't she? And now...

He frowned, getting to his feet, looking over Laharl's shoulder at the journal when he pulled it out. "A day?" He stared, incredulous. "How is that possible?"

Hallucinations didn't make time go by faster, did they? But, then again, this place's time was strange enough...

Still, the message that appeared was a bit more worrisome. He couldn't remember ever seeing it before. What all had happened while they'd been hallucinating?

Vyers frowned. Gone? When could that have happened?

He opened his journal, taking a look for himself, only to receive the same message. Etna, Flonne, it seemed as though everyone was on their way home--or that's what he wanted to think had happened, at least.

But if the message only appeared when someone was, indeed, gone, then there was no reason for him to believe otherwise.

He snapped the journal shut again and tucked it away, waiting to see what Laharl would do.

Vyers walked over to the bed, sitting down and putting his head in his hand as he thought. He hadn't a clue what to do to be honest; he was still having trouble wrapping his mind around everything that had just happened, but he wasn't about to admit any of that.

Flonne and Etna were gone, likely returned to the Netherworld. Something was causing hallucinations, possibly the creature that had attacked them before? But she had been almost exactly as he had remembered her...

No, no. He could think about that later.

"A search? Questions as to whether or not others have had this happen?" he suggested.
