A Return to Justice [active; open]

Character(s): Gabranth
Content: Gabranth clomping around in full Magisterial armor and ignoring the giant monster.
Setting: J7
Time: midday
Warnings: none, yet

It hadn't been any sense of danger or wish to announce his allegiances that had driven Gabranth back to the outfit he'd worn when first he'd arrived to this strange place. Rather it was the fact that acting as the kingslayer who dared yet call him brother chafed after so long a time. And until a better plan was found, he would act as his kin no more.

True, the law he served was not the law here; or not as he'd seen but that mattered not. Law was law the world (worlds?) over. The blade of the law therefore could find place wheree'er he went. And if what he'd seen was true, this city could profit from a little law.

Therefore, his hand would mete out what the law deserved, as best he could without direct orders. Small things, but perhaps enough - and more than enough for him.

"That's quite a fetish you've got there, my friend," a warm voice called out, tone not disrespect yet but full of ready to launch humor. Perhaps it was the intensive requirements inherent in hand to hand combat, even the use of swords also demanding flexibility and move ability, that the sight of this stranger in full body armor reminded Zack more of a roleplay skit than a battle-hardened soldier going on patrol.

Besides, wouldn't it chafe? Like... a lot?

Zack would very much like to have little Zack juniors to drive Spike and Aerith nuts in the future, thank you very much. Then again, no one really figured out what mako did to the system.

"Unless you're trying to attract a certain kind of character?"

"Ah. Well, that sucks," Zack observed, not at all perturbed by the echoing quality of the armored man's voice sounding from inside his helmet. The irritated tone failed to instill regret in Zack for his own words, having been immune to it once he'd made SOLDIER. It seemed rubbing those with work ethics the wrong way seemed to be a skill of his.

"Sorry, man, I didn't know. Did no one else want the job?" That's such a pity. The armor didn't look comfortable, and with the two horns proclaiming 'COMPENSATION' louder than bolded billboard letters with accompanying red arrows, Zack wouldn't be surprised if this new person had problems picking up women.

Then again, Aerith had found the strangest things cute.

"Oh really? That sounds pretty hot stuff there."

Honestly, it reminded Zack a bit too much of what SOLDIER had been like, or at least, ShinRa by extension through SOLDIER. Being the 'law' of something had it's drawbacks, though Zack's beginning to get the picture that wearing five hundred pounds of pure armor with a fetish for swirls wasn't one of them, according to this fellow.

"So I guess you're judge and jury in your world, huh? Don't tell me you're also the executioner." Zack kept his tone light, bouncing in place once before starting to circle the other man. He'd stood still long enough. It also didn't hurt to get a concept of the armor's potential weak points.

Like the soldier he's trained to be, Zack takes note of those possibly vulnerable areas, eyes also taking in the different angles the openings in the armor would have to be for the man to move. Just because something seemed impenetrable didn't mean that it was.

"So one guy gets to let loose the ax, huh? Sounds like a dictatorship to me." Not that Zack wouldn't know, having worked for one such organization himself. "But eh. How's that working for ya?"

[identity profile] mustcatchme1st.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Obedient little fella, aren't you?" Zack observed, though his tone holds a trace of wry amusement. "Well, can't say all of us haven't been there at one time or another. Me," Zack pointed at his own chest, "I used to be a Dog of War, you know? Not all it's cracked up to be."

And Zack was far from what they'd considered obedient. Or at least, that's what Angeal liked to say.

"So where's your ruler now?" Zack finished his lazy circle trip around the other man, folding his arms and jutting out a hip as he stopped in front of him. It looked like he was settling in for a good conversation.

[identity profile] mustcatchme1st.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
"I happen to disagree with that, friend." Zack very much chose who his master was (well, who he followed, to be exact, since the term 'master' involved actually behaving for the person)- first Angeal, then Sephiroth. And though his goals and alignment had lined up nicely with ShinRa's own for a time, once they'd allowed Cloud to be experimented on, all bets had been thrown off.

"I guess it depends on your definition of loyalty, and of who deserves it." Zack tilted his head. "So is that where you're from? Archadia? Never heard of it."

[identity profile] mustcatchme1st.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Unknown territory then. I'm betting that's got nothing to do with The Planet, considering ShinRa pretty much explored it all. I would have heard of Ivalice if it'd been there." Zack's pretty sure of this. He'd been sent on enough missions to at least know most of the lay of the land.

"Either way, looks like you're far from home." Like Zack. "Say, you wouldn't happen to know anything about this place, would you? Good bars? Good eats? Maybe even a few...weaponry smiths?" Zack asked the last, grin wrinkling the corner of his eyes as he pointedly looked at the man's armor.

[identity profile] mustcatchme1st.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Annoying ain't it? It's a good thing Zack's had years and years and years to hone his 'talking off someone's sanity' ability; sometimes, Zack's personality was more effective a torture device than any other method devised by the interrogation committee.

It took skills.

And possibly Zack high on sugar.

"Yee~aah, but where's the fun in that?" Zack asked good-naturedly. "I'd have to suffer through bad food, horrible service, and possibly chicks thinking I'm trying to pick them up. Which I'm not, by the way," Zack added, in case this stranger had any doubts. "And besides, a good smithy is always found by word of mouth. Would you let just anyone touch your hard self?"

[identity profile] mustcatchme1st.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd probably suspect right. Hard to uphold your shell when someone's poking at it.

"Doesn't mean you don't keep it regulated with proper up keeping," Zack stated, though his tone took a more questioning sound near the end of that. The stranger did try to maintain his armor. Right? Any fighter worth their salt would be doing so.

[identity profile] mustcatchme1st.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Obviously not enough," Zack mouthed, though it didn't really matter if this stranger caught his words or not. More often than not, his superiors had been privy to them, having possessed enhanced hearing abilities.

"You need to get out more, you know that? But hey! We can work on that."

[identity profile] mustcatchme1st.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Man, what is it with the people here? First Squall, now you. It's like, an anti-social magnet convention or something. Loosen up! It's not like it's gonna kill you or something. Er. Most of the time."

Zack speaks from experience!

[identity profile] mustcatchme1st.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oooo-kaaaay. So that mean you gotta be distant and cruel, too? Marlboro-radish, man. That's plain unreasonable. You can't expect a man to be heartless, or emotionless. Not only is that cruel, but it's the leading cause of constipation."

Admittedly, that last was thrown in just for quirks, but Zack didn't imagine that the two had no connections.

[identity profile] mustcatchme1st.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wow. You sound like some retro play from days gone by or something. Trust me. Change is possible, especially when it's for the better."

Normally, Zack would offer his services here for the common greater good (though many back home would argue there was nothing good about becoming Zack's project), but the man (was it a man? Could be a woman with a really deep voice- Zack wasn't about to ask) probably wouldn't appreciate it.

[identity profile] mustcatchme1st.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. Guess he'd struck a nerve, not that Zack wouldn't have at some point, considering how much more he was talking than his conversation partner. It was hard to judge just how much he'd touched on a taboo subject however, when he couldn't even see the other man's expression.

...Speaking of which.

"Hey, pal. Aren't you a little hot with that thing on? I mean. We're indoors, if you know what I mean. There's no elements you've got to protect yourself against." The request for the armored man to remove his helmet was as subtle as a Zolom doing the chorus line in the middle of Loveless Square.
