Rain and Lightning and Sin [active; open]

Character(s): Sin and anyone who wants in on the fight
Content: Boss fight! In the rain!
Setting: L7
Time: early evening, while it's still raining
Warnings: Destruction, mayhem, and violence. And a hole in the domes.

In the past few weeks, the city had proven itself up to the task of eliminating the lesser Sinspawn, but it was time to show them the real power of Sin. It was time to start bringing death to this world and those who inhabited it. Whether they belonged here was of no importance. They suffered here just as they would suffer wherever they had come from; where they were released from their suffering was of no real importance. All he needed to do was attract a bit of attention.

Which Sin itself was admittedly doing, by virtue of being a large electricity based creature, but the rumbling of thunder above the domes had given him an idea. After all, Sin was providing a far amount of destruction already, and surely no one would mind if he caused just a little bit more. And it was a matter of little effort to cast a simple Flare at the dome overhead, shattering a fair amount of it to pieces. With luck the explosion would serve as a way to get people to head this direction and in the meantime Sin could terrorize and kill the general populace.

[Note: Since giant boss fight is likely to be giant, it'll probably be best to split this up into a bunch of different threads. Thread hopping is, of course, not only okay but encouraged, so hop in and have fun!]

Laharl blinked up from the journal for a moment as he was addressed. He looked to Luffy for a moment before turning his eyes back to it, still writing something.

"Yeah... From the inside," he replied, somewhat distracted since he was reading and writing things onto the journal, before finally he snapped it closed, looking like he was about to move, but paused to glance back at Luffy.

"Just be ready, you'll see when to head inside."

With that, Laharl took off heading to find Flonne before he would make his attack.

Seconds before his meteor had slammed into Sin, Laharl had leapt off, uninjured from his own attack. He made the long fall, to a rooftop, landing cleanly but the roof would definitely need repair.

From there he hopped down to the ground, grinning wickedly from ear to ear. He'd done it. Now... Was he going to bother to go inside? He hadn't decided yet. Hm.

Well, maybe he'd just keep the thing busy on the outside. First things first, he'd check in with Flonne. Thus the Overlord for now disapeared from view as he searched for where Flonne had taken up shelter.

Sonic, for one, was grateful that Sin's insides weren't like normal big-creature insides. That wasn't really something he wanted to mess with.

Of course, the fog was sure weird. "Whoa," he breathed, descending from the hole in Sin's top to almost ground level, coming to a stop and floating several inches above the floor. "What th' heck is this?" He was almost wishing he could look in more than one direction at a time, because this whole thing was just strange and he wanted to see what was going on. If that wasn't going to work...

"Let's check it out." Without waiting for an answer, he picked a direction at random and was off, flying through the fog, ready to take out anything that got in his way.

All my fault.

He didn't know how long this monster had been rampaging through the city. Couldn't even guess at how many people it had killed or injured. Now both complete strangers and his friends were putting their lives on the line to stop it.

To stop something that wouldn't have happened if it weren't for him.

"It's all my fault."

The shock had frozen him to the spot. Only peripherally did he notice the meteor crashing down on the monster, or even Braska's voice next to him; by the time he realized the man might be talking to him, he'd already missed what he said. Finally, he managed to tear his eyes away from the monster, and turned them to Braska. But the look in them wasn't confusion, wasn't fear - just deep, pervasive guilt.

The words came automatically to his mouth, out of emotion more than thought. "I'm sorry."

He didn't even notice the Firaga approaching.

[ooc: uhhh haha he's not gonna be able to evade that, whoops. will take the hit next turn, if Braska fails his quick time event? that all right?]

Was this a cave or a monster? Knuckles couldn't really tell, and he didn't care to. What he did care about was getting rid of this thing before it caused any more damage to the city (stranger as he was to this place, Knuckles was a protector, and that was just what he was going to do). He floated down after Sonic, looking over at his friend.

"No idea," he growled in response, "but it doesn't look good." This thing was giving him the creeps; it was probably best to get this fight over with (the sooner the better so Knuckles could find a way back to Angel Island). He flew off after Sonic, keeping a sharp lookout for anything that would get in his way.

"Oiiiiii! Wait for me!"

The two running ahead of Luffy were so much faster than he was that he didn't honestly expect them to slow down for his sake, but at the very least, he could try and ask them. Keeping an admirable pace behind them, Luffy chugged along as quickly as he could, taking fleet, cheetah-speed strides into the fog. He hated the idea of being left behind in a fight, an idea that only motivated him to run even harder.

Hopefully, they wouldn't be able to defeat the enemy awaiting them ahead before he could catch up and join in.

Hamel stared in mild... something or other at the stretchable boy in front of him. Jeez. Imagine using HIM as a marionette.

Still, a lift was exactly what he needed. "Thanks," he said in reply, and braced his violin on his shoulder a little tighter. "Let's go!"

[identity profile] greatherohamel.livejournal.com 2008-10-12 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
"YOU PEOPLE ARE EXTREMELY BAD AT THE WHOLE TEAMWORK THING!" echoed someone hypocritically from behind Luffy. Hamel was rushing along as fast as he could while still managing his song. As long as the two furry things could still hear it, the spell would go on and they'd be fine. The second it ended... well. They'd be down two fighters for some time.

Hamel had downed some big mazoku in his day (Mouthpiece on Mt. Fine still gave him the chills) but none so big he actually had to go inside of them to kill them. This time, he was alone without the aid of that snotty little prince or Sizer's scythe to help out. This thing looked like it could be Mouthpiece's older brother.

Whatever.

Auron noticed the others approaching the opening that had been made, as well as the fact a certain High Summoner was not. "Braska!"

[identity profile] 4thhighsummoner.livejournal.com 2008-10-12 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Braska stared at the boy in confusion. What was his fault? Seymour had done all of this, hadn't he? It was his fault that this creature was doing this, not the boy's.

He shook his head. "I cannot claim to understand what you are feeling at the moment, but you cannot simply stand there. Please, you are in danger!" he quickly insisted.

It was as he turned his head to respond to Auron that he caught the flash of light out of the corner of his eye, and Braska immediately pulled Ivan with him as he dove out of the way. He watched as the Firaga went overhead and let out the breath he didn't know he'd been holding.

Inside... They had to get inside. Would he have to bring the boy along?

Harry heard the creature beginning to stir and turning quickly he spun his staff before smashing it into the Sinspawn's head. Rearing back with an angry roar, it lashed out with its foreleg, aiming to tear its attacker in half. Fortunately for the wizard, pain and disorientation threw off the beast's aim, and instead of eviscerating him, it merely caught the side of his enchanted duster and threw him to the ground.

Grunting as he rolled with the blow, Harry allowed his staff to be torn from his hand, rather than risk being entangled with it. He lost track of the weapon as a spike of pain seared from his shoulder. Struggling to his feet, Harry suddenly threw himself back as the Sinspawn smashed the street where he had just been standing. The creature bellowed right in his face, the smell of its foul breath threatening to make him sick.

Fighting back nausea Harry grabbed his fear, pain, and anger, and channeled it straight into the blasting rod he'd pulled from his pocket as he fell, even as he used the shield bracelet on his other hand to conjure a tiny force shield to wedge the Sinspawn's mouth open. Moving on pure combat instinct he shoved the foci straight down the creature's mouth, past a absurd number of teeth, and there with a snarl of, "Fuego," released the power he had gathered into a concentrated beam of pure flame.

In going after Sin, Harry had violated one of his cardinal rules of combat, he'd rushed in unprepared. He had almost no information on what these creatures were capable of, what their weaknesses were, or even if his attacks would have any effect on it. Still, there was one thing he could say with certainty: No matter how powerful a creature was, a lance of pure flame boiling its insides would hurt.

The fire shot down in a straight line, searing whatever the Sinspawn had for insides, before the sheer kinetic force tore a hole in its back, burning a line down the street. The creature couldn't even scream in pain, as all the air in its lungs was burned away as fuel for Harry's fire.

Ripping his arm out of the Sinspawn's mouth before the backlash of heat could sear him as well, Harry threw himself gracelessly backwards, even as his simple shield spell collapsed and the creature's jaws snapped shut instinctively. A second later his back connected sharply with the ground, knocking the air from his lungs.

Gasping desperately Harry lay for a second before staggering to his feet and seeing the flaming wreck that used to be his opponent. With the danger obviously past, the adrenalin that had been keeping Harry up gave out, and he collapsed back against the wall with an almost giddy laugh.

"Thank you, thank you, but please hold all applause until the end of the show," Harry informed the empty street, before shaking his head and muttering, "Next time I need to pull something out of my hat, I should just stick with rabbits."

Turning Harry looked back to see how the rest of the battle was going.

Well jeez, wasn't the whole point of this to take down the monster before it did any more damage? They'd never get it finished if they slowed down! On the other hand, leaving your team behind was pretty dumb when you didn't know what was out there...

Sonic compromised, slowing down a bit and turning around, flying backwards. "Hurry up, slowpokes!"

Of course, the problem with not looking where you were going was you often ran into things. Unfortunately for Sonic, rules like that tended not to make exceptions for him. His flight was stopped as he rather abruptly plowed into something. For once common sense prevailed, and he turned around to see what he'd hit before mouthing off at it.

It was another monster. Another, big, nasty-looking monster.

"Oh man..."

[identity profile] sparkplasma.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ivan felt the yank on his arm, the loss of balance, the heat from the fireball, but none of it quite registered until he was on the ground with a face full of gravel. The dust made him cough as he pushed himself back upright, disoriented. Laharl. Where was Laharl?

Automatically, he glanced back at the monster - my fault - but didn't see his friends right away, and then turned to the man who'd saved him, although he didn't quite realize what had just happened. Uncertainly, he got to his feet. "I have to - to -" to what? It was almost like forgetting where he was all of a sudden.

[identity profile] knuckle-headed.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Knuckles gave Sonic a flat look. "Do you always have to do that?" he called, rushing after Sonic. "This isn't a game." Leave it to the Blue Blur to make light of such an important situation; Sonic was always mocking situations and people. He saw the creature before Sonic did and attempted to call out a warning, but it died in his throat.

What the heck was that? Whatever it was, it definitely didn't look good, but Knuckles wasn't about to let something like that stop him. The Guardian charged forward, readying a punch as he did so.

"Get out of my way, you freak!"

[identity profile] stretchmeout.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Could it actually be considered lucky that the monster had emerged and stopped Sonic short of leaving the others in his dust? Luffy didn't stop to wonder about whether his fortunes were improving, though they obviously weren't; instead, he kept on running until he had finally made up for lost ground and joined the two.

Like Knuckles, Luffy was immediately ready to fight. There was no question whether or not this creature was a threat, so a debate on the next course of action was hardly necessary. However, the red echidna was already there and already throwing the first punch, leaving Luffy to wait and watch. He wasn't about to step on anyone's toes by interrupting.

Through the mists ahead, Luffy briefly glanced off into the hazy distance. There was still work to be done, and he wondered for a moment whether or not the group should split up. "Naa, 'Pointy'!" he called out to Knuckles, another of his spontaneous nicknames. "Think you can handle this guy on your own?"

*switching their order again*

Braska let out the breath he didn't know he had been holding as he watched the fireball sail overhead. That had been a little too close. Was there no follow up attack? In any case, they had an opening.

The High Summoner quickly got to his feet and looked over at the boy. "Come with us. We're heading inside," he said, glancing over at Sin from time to time in case of another attack. He couldn't leave the boy here. While it would certainly be dangerous inside of Sin, he was in much more dangerous on the outside.

Braska hesitated for a moment before he grabbed Ivan by the arm with a short sigh. "Forgive me for this," he said quietly, before dragging him along as he headed for Sin.

[identity profile] kotetsu-blade.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Braska was taking too long. A scowl on his face, Auron turned to see just what he was doing, only to find the High Summoner running his way with a boy in tow.

What was he thinking? The boy was obviously disturbed by something, if not frightened. He would end up dead! But though he disapproved, Auron said nothing. There was no time to waste. This needed to be finished now.

And so, sword shouldered, the ex-guardian led the way.

Hamel stayed near the back, as usual. His violin strings were already hot and they wouldn't be cooling down anytime soon as he quickly switched songs. He already had two puppets... but firing up all of these suckers couldn't hurt.

"Smetana's Moldau, 'Our Fatherland'! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8G9qHNS68s&feature=related)" he muttered to himself. This was a song of soldiers defending their country. It would inspire his allies to fight bravely-- and surely they could already feel themselves growing stronger...
