He ought to stand up straighter [Active, Open]
Character(s): L, others?
Content: Given advice by others, L sets out to find a place to stay, or somewhere where he can figure out this mess.
Setting: Just inside Vanaheim gate, around Actua Are
Time: Evening
Warnings: Nothin'.
Despite what seemed to be true, L was dead and now he had to deal with himself. First things first: he needed a place where he could stay here, a computer (other than this journal he had received at the entrance), and something to keep him occupied for the time being.
He made his way towards Actua Are, remembering what he had been told through the journal by a girl named Namine: it was one of the places to stay, but the Haja o Que Houver was better. For some time he merely stood, staring at the building, biting the nail on his thumb as he did so.
For once he wasn't thinking; just looking. And then he shuffled on, on the lookout for the Haja o Que Houver. Comparisons had to be made before he could even think of staying.

Even lost in thought as NiGHTS was, she still noticed the lanky, disheveled young man wandering half-aimlessly through the city and, being NiGHTS immediately called out to him, flying over at glittering dust trailed from her fingertips. "Hey, you!" She grinned, crossing her arms and examining this person. "Are you new here?"
no subject
He came to the conclusion that he must have been seeing things, but nothing stopped him from turning and saying, as politely as he could, "Yes, I'm new. Why do you ask?"
no subject
"Kind of boring here, isn't it?" She continued conversationally. "The city has no sky and everyone looks the same." Brilliant eyes flickered to the dark-haired man, half-sizing him up before she laughed again, shrugging. "Well, my name is NiGHTS. What's your name?"
no subject
"Ryuuzaki," L said before he could stop himself. He didn't know why he was using a fake name, but it seemed the Death Note could be anywhere now. He still expected Kira to be watching every move him and his team made, and as such he continued to use an alias. "This does seem like a dull city, as a matter of fact. I'm sure there's something happening somewhere."
no subject
"Ryuuzaki, huh?" She shrugged, and looked up at the domes before a mischievous, yet harmless grin came over her face. "Wherever that somewhere is, I know a way that's faster than walking."
no subject
He tilted his head. "How?" She knew something, he could tell, but as soon as the question came out of his mouth he regretted asking it.
no subject
At the question, NiGHTS grinned again and held out her hand. "Dualizing," she answered simply. "It will allow you to fly and keep a lookout." She half-expected the man to say no, as he certainly didn't appear to be the adventurous type, but it couldn't hurt to ask. Besides, with the snippets of chaos NiGHTS had seen and heard (something about monsters and light and shattering), flying was sure to be safer.
no subject
Finally he decided, and delicately took her hand between his first two fingers. As he held it awkwardly, he told her, "Be careful. Dying again wouldn't be preferable, as I'd like to stay here a little longer."
no subject
NiGHTS decided to take the initiative and flew up, over the heads of the citizens, and stretched her arms out, enjoying the air rushing against her face. "There," she said, "now pick the direction you want to go in and we're off." She flew in a circle by way of demonstration, and faced the direction the other had been walking in.

He made his way over to where he assumed the Haja O Que Houver was, albeit slowly and cautiously. "Do you know any places where one could buy pastries or candy?" he asked suddenly, the thought occuring to him that he should be able to eat.
no subject
"A place to eat?" NiGHTS replied, blinking at the question. She crossed her arms in thought, allowing Ryuuzaki to continue to fly. "Hmm. I don't really know about that sort of thing. I've never needed to eat, but..." Her eyes flickered over the area, settling on what appeared to be a cafe. "How about over there?" she asked, pointing. "That looks like a good place."
Not that NiGHTS was used to this area, having arrived only this morning, but Ryuuzaki didn't need to know that just yet.
no subject
He looked in the direction where NiGHTS was pointing, and nodded. "As long as they have dessert and tea, I'll be satisfied. That looks like it will do." He didn't normally, but perhaps he'd have to get used to it...if such a thing were even possible.
no subject
"All right, then," she replied, smiling over her shoulder at Ryuuzaki, "and I'm sure they do." Didn't cafes normally have that sort of thing, after all? Not that NiGHTS knew for sure, but she couldn't see why they wouldn't.

He was somewhat reassured at her words. Having a taste of home (meaning the taste of sugar) would help him to think straighter, even more so than the irregular way he sat in chairs and the like. Perhaps he could configure this journal he had received, too, and attune it to the goings-on of the town...he'd be content to sit in his room, alone, for the rest of his days here, if it came down to that.

She crossed her arms behind her head and allowed herself to drift up to the roof, out of the way, and raised her fingertips to the air near her face as though playing an instrument. Immediately, the soft tones of a flute sounded, and NiGHTS played the tune she seemed to have known her whole life while she waited for Ryuuzaki.
Thanks for telling your friends about me and friending me and all that :D
L looked up at the sound of the flute and moved so he could watch NiGHTS. It intrigued him, how she could play music out of the air. He tilted his head and listened to the flute for a while, thumb in mouth. "Lovely," he said simply.
Ehe. >.>; I just mentioned that you were a fantastic L, and Em was all "OMG SHOW ME." <3?
A smile came to the Maren's lips at the compliment, and she bowed. "Thank you. I've known how to play since the day I was born." At least, she though she did; Wizeman had never elaborated on the day of her creation and NiGHTS hadn't ever liked him enough to ask.
<3! Fo' srs.
At her comment, L thrust a finger into the air. "Not likely," he said matter-of-factly. "Infants have a very small range of control over their muscles and a lack of developed motor skills. I believe the earliest you could have learned was..." He stopped to calculate the numbers in his head. "Two. Maybe three."
no subject
"Really?" she asked. "But I was born the way you see me now." It was true; NiGHTS, along with the other Nightmaren, came into creation fully-formed. "Everyone in my world is born like this." Even the Nightopians, who were total opposites from the Nightmaren, hatched from their eggs fully formed.
no subject
L shuffled closer and circled NiGHTS, looking her up and down. "What are you?" he asked suddenly. He had no experience with the realm of magic and mythology at all, as it had never applied to him. When a magical creature was standing before him, though, it was rather difficult to ignore. Without warning, L stuck out a hand and poked NiGHTS on the arm several times. "You seem to be solid," he mused, almost to himself.
no subject
NiGHTS kept her gaze on L, chuckling in amusement at L's perplexity and, being NiGHTS (and thus being used to confused Visitors), not minding the poking at all; in fact, she was only further amused by it. "I'm from the world of dreams," NiGHTS answered, so that's what I am." What she was, of course, was a dream (or rather, nightmare) that Wizeman had created. She stretched out her hand so that L could touch it and laughed again. "Well, I am real, as you must know by now."
[OOC: Sorry for the repost. D:]

Without waiting for NiGHTS' reply, he turned on his heel and walked straight into the hotel they were standing in front of. "This one is better," he said, not stopping or turning to see if she was following or not.
no subject
She decided that she may as well follow him, as there was currently nothing else to do, and looked around her, grinning mischievously at the people she saw inside.
no subject
What were the locals like?
He turned around, realizing NiGHTS was still behind him. "Are you going to follow me up until my room?" he asked. "I'm not a very interesting individual to watch." He was just going to look around; it wasn't as if he had cases to solve anymore. Boring, indeed.
no subject
Well, there was no use in thinking on it.
The creature laughed, shaking her head. "Not necessarily," she reassured him, "but I've never been here before. It's interesting; nothing at all like the Night Dimension."
