Most Certainly Not Gaia... [active]
Character(s): Cid Highwind, and anyone else who happens by
Content: Obligatory gate post, plus gratuitous swearing
Setting: Niflhiem Gate
Time: mid-morning
Warnings: Cid swears. A lot.
Most people's reaction to finding themselves waking up in a place that was most definitely not where they had gone to sleep would be to wonder if it wasn't all just some strange dream. These people were not Cid. Cid's reaction to waking up in a place was far simpler and far more emphatic as a stream of profanity split the air.
"Goddammit, Shera, I've told you before..." The sentence cut off abruptly as he finally realized that this was absolutely nowhere that he'd ever seen before. And considering that he'd traveled across the majority of the world during that mad dash after Sephiroth two years earlier that was saying something. And he was pretty sure he'd have remembered a city like this - all built under domes. Almost reminded him of Midgar, except for the lines. Ain't nobody who'd line up to get into Midgar of their own will, he thought to himself. Or at least not without a damned good reason.
Nothing in there for him, though. No skies under those domes, that was damned sure. Still, he couldn't help but wonder just what was drawing all these people into the city. Wasn't the sky, so what was it? He sighed as he realized that the only way to now for sure would
be to go in himself. "Can't believe I'm doing this," he mumbled to himself as he headed to join the line. Whatever was on the other side of that gate had better be worth the trouble.
Unfortunately, the city itself was scarcely worth the wait, in his opinion - an opinion he made quite clear as a stream of profanity shattered the early morning air.

But she was still back at the Niflheim gate. She forgot how long it had been since she walked through it for the first time. A plastic bag saying 'Matinal's' in blocky letters hung from one of her arms, full of some food and beverages to keep her going.
Something caught her eyes in her reminiscing. She glanced over, surprised, a soft oh! falling from her mouth. But she frowned a bit - yes, the man looked familiar, from all that time ago back in Traverse Town. Still, he looked... different. But then, so did she, so who was she to talk?
With a bit of a spring in her step she moved to the entryway of the gate, glancing at the people in the line, seeing who she was looking for, and raising up a hand (the one without the groceries), and calling out. "Cid! Hey, Cid!"
Ah, maybe it wasn't the right person, now that she got a better look... Oh well. Sora always made a fool of himself. So she could catch up.

But that could wait until later, as he closed the journal for now and headed over towards the person who'd called his name. True, he didn't have the slightest clue as to who she was, but that didn't mean he couldn't get to a distance where he wouldn't have to to yell back and forth to hold a conversation.
"That's my name," he commented once he got near enough. "Haven't got any damned idea who you are though."
no subject
Really, finding out that he didn't know her, wasn't as much as a shock as she thought it may be.
"Oh..." she offered him a smile, anyway. "It's just I know a Cid, and he looks an awful lot like you. But..." she had to laugh, just a bit. My, this city could be confusing sometime. "Well, I can tell that you're just not him."
She looked around the gate area for a moment. "You've got that confused look of a newcomer... We all kind of get that. This is Paixao. Ah..." Now this was slightly awkward. She looked a bit uneasy, and then something hit her, and she shuffled into her grocery bag and pulled out a small, glass bottle of soda and handed it to him with a bright smile. "Here! It must be a bit stressful ending up here from... well, wherever you came from! So hopefully it'll put some ease!"
Awkward. Awkward.

"How the hell is there another me?" Hopefully the answer wasn't going to involve clones. He'd had more than enough of clones and remnants over the last few years. Damn the ShinRa for that. And damn Hojo for wanting 'The General' back enough to try and make copies of the man.
But he did accept the offered soda at least, even if he would have much preferred something a good deal stronger. But in the absence of a nearby bar, this would do. "Rocket Town."
no subject
"Well, I donno, really. The Cid I knew was on a world called Traverse Town. There doesn't seem to be much of world-travel here, or... any travel for that matter..." She looked at the ground a bit sheepish for a moment. "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but currently there's no way to leave this place. Not to say that stops people from trying. But Paixao is kind of like being... in it's own sort of universe, so I guess in a way that always means there can be multiples of... people?"
Kairi was obviously no scientist. She liked her odd guesses. Most of the time they were better than those of her boys.
no subject
"Multiples of people? From anywhere?" And most importantly, did that mean that it was possible that Sephiroth was here? After all, he'd rather not have to fight the man again - once had been quite enough for him.
no subject
"Yeah, I suppose so. It wouldn't really surprise me. This city is really weird, you have no idea." She wished she could do something to comfort him, but everyone handled Paixao in their own way. She had found her friends quickly and not much else had mattered to her; she figured her ending up in the city was some sort of fate. Now everything was catching up to her, but she would settle. She had to.
"I guess after being here awhile, you kind of get use to it. It's probably best to just find some place to stay or something. It's better than wandering blindly... The currency here is easy, at least. The citizens will accept anything that's shiny, even the leaves on the trees." She pointed to the strange trees and grass. "It's not... too bad, I guess..."
Though she hadn't fully convinced herself of that.
She looked around as people entered through the gate and chuckled slightly. If she was blond, she would probably look like some sort of tour guide. Wonderful.

"I'd like it better if the place had some sort of airship," he grumbled.
Or a sky. That would help. Well, as long as he had some method of flying at least. Fucking domes keeping him from the sky.
no subject
She smirked and closed the journal, slipping it back into a pocket in her pants. "You should have an easier time settling in than most, airship or not."
no subject
A vague grumble at the mention of that place with his name on it. "I know. Damned thing keeps reminding me." He gestured with the journal he was still holding, presumably in an effort to make it clear what he was referring to.
"No idea what sort of shape this place is even in. And what the hell am I supposed to do with a store? I'm a mechanic, not a shopkeeper."
no subject
"So be a mechanic, silly. Who says you've gotta be the shopkeeper? Just because it's got your name on it, doesn't mean you've got to be the one out front handling the customers, or whatever." She had never actually been to the place herself and had no idea on what kind of condition it was in anymore. Still. She shrugged slightly. "Maybe I could help you clean it up if it's bad? If anything, it's not like you have to open it up again. Gives ya a place to sleep."
no subject
Not like he really had any intention of letting that stop him. If this place wasn't kind enough to let him bring his ship here, he'd just have to find something to replace her for the time being - even if he had to make it himself.
A shrug at the offer to help clean the place up. "Not gonna stop you if you want to."
no subject
"I suppose you're right... there isn't all that much from what I've seen either. I mean, there's the rickshaws... and whatever people may have on them." She shrugged a bit. "But I guess you never know. If you advertise a mechanic is available, well, all sorts of things might pop up."
But Kairi was an optimistic, more recently than anything. The city had bogged her mind down for awhile, but no longer! She just hoped her bubbliness wasn't terrifying the man.
"Uh, well, the shop isn't that far from here, but I'm sure you probably want to check out the city. Or not. I don't really know." She didn't want to be a bother, after all. She would of course be glad to help, when he needed it, of course. "I recommend asking on the message board to see if you've got any pals around, since you never know who shows up."
no subject
"Rather check this place out first. 'Snot like the city's gonna be going anywhere after all." Besides, that way he'd know what he'd need to make any kind of repairs the place night need.
no subject
"That's true!" she chuckled. If the city were to up and leave, they'd have some problems, no doubt. Though it'd be kind of interesting... heh. "Well then, right this way to your castle, Mr. Cid," she joked, but turned away before he could react, and started off to where she knew his shop was located.
no subject
A slight pause as he realized there was something he still didn't know. "Come to think of it, I never did get your name."
no subject
But then Kairi too paused, turning around to face Cid again (continuing to walk backwards slowly towards their destination) and blinked herself. How rude of her! That should've been the first thing she said to him, after knowing it wasn't the Cid from her worlds! "Oh. Heh, that's right. Well then, I'm Kairi! It's a pleasure to meet you, Captain."
no subject
That was... probably about as polite as he was going to get, really - he'd never been one for social grace. But he expected Kairi might be used to that if she know a version of him, like she'd claimed to.
no subject
She tried to think of what other useful information she could pass on. So she rambled, not really paying that much attention to what he had said, other than showing that she obviously wasn't bothered by his speech patterns. "Let's see... apparently there's a group of people in black cloaks that aren't good to deal with... they're pulling the strings or something... there's a Resistance being formed - though I haven't heard much on it... some stuff here and there..." she waved a hand, as if dismissing it. Her mind was a bit fuzzy when it came to things like those. "Um... some meerkat oddly enough often acts more responsible than the city's mayor..."
Useful information, yeah right. She barely had anything. Lot of good that does anyone.
She sighed a bit.
((Uhhh so I was wondering if you [well, I could do it XD] want to make a new thread soon-ish for an arrival to the shop, orrr just continue on here?))
no subject
"Sounds just like home," he grumbled. "Only with all the useful bits taken out." Or more accurately, it sounded like Midgar - Rocket Town had been tolerable at least.
Why did have to get himself stuck in place like this anyway?
no subject
"Any~way... From what another friend of mine told me, Nobodies are, um... like... Shells left behind when the Heartless are made, and are seeking hearts to become whole... Weird stuff, really."
She shrugged lightly. Story of her life.
((Ho-kay~ Works for me. Kairi's done now, probably. I did have her rattle on again -.-;;;))
