Foundation Day Festival: Games Area

Character(s): anybody playing games
Content: people play carnival games
Setting: Joco da Crianca Fairgrounds, games area
Time: all day~
Warnings: Multithreaded posting format (please include time of day and sub-location in your comment's subject line)

Scattered through the western half of the fairgrounds are the game tents. They've got everything, from knocking over bottles to darts to a dunk tank; if you can think of it, chances are they have it. There's even a "Guess Your Age Or Weight" booth. Typically there is more than one game to a tent. This is a very loud area, with all of the games staff calling at once to get people to come over.

Naturally, there are prizes for those who win, ranging from little knickknacks and candies to giant stuffed animals - nothing particularly useful, but a lot of cute things.

The piece de resistance is a 25-foot Ferris wheel. It seats two to a car (three if you squeeze), and children under four and a half feet tall aren't allowed to ride without an adult.

Alice smiled. "I see chivalry has yet to die in some of places. Much appreciated."

Alice took the dart. She closed her eyes, and saw the enemy in mind.

She had been at that spot before, a hair breath away from death, where they enemy stood. Sometimes it was a card guard. Sometimes it was a rook, powerful and strong. If you were lucky, a fire imp. But if it was Jabberspawn or Boojum, your reflexes needed to be quit.

Alice opened her eyes and let a dart fly. Two stripes away from the center point. Not bad for someone who was still a bit rusty.

Death had to admire Alice's accuracy. The rings on the dartboard were thinner than the ones he was accustomed to, and to hit so close to the center was a feat indeed.

Death, however, preferred to play the game Kit had described, turning to the large board covered with brightly colored balloons. In a place where everything was brightly colored and loud, why shouldn't he play a game that was just the same thing? A quick flick of the wrist, and one of his darts popped a bright red balloon with a loud BANG. Seeing the game owner reach for a small wooden cork gun, he held up his hand. I WISH TO TAKE MY OTHER TWO TURNS BEFORE I COLLECT MY PRIZE.

Kit lined up one of his darts, and tossed it. It managed to graze by a balloon, but it was enough to pop it. Kit listened to the solid BANG and grinned. He tossed another dart, and it hit right in the middle of one of the balloons. "Yes! Your turn again?" He asked.

Alice smiled when she the balloons. Slightly bobbing targets. This was a little more interesting. It was, really, about not underestimating your trajectory. Once you knew the weight the object you were throwing, you got more of an idea how to throw it: and once you knew that...

Alice hot one of the balloons dead center, and nodded. She really did miss her weapons.

She turned to Death. "While this is fun, I'm curious about the status of our little friends in the organization. What have you discovered."

Death flicked his wrist once, twice more, popping a rather unlucky pair of purple and green balloons and accepting a large red and black stuffed cobra as his prize before returning his attention to Alice. I SHALL TELL YOU THE SAME THING I TOLD KIT, he intoned calmly, his voice lowering to the deep, thrumming pitch that passed as a whisper for him. I AM HERE TO MEET WITH ONE OTHER WHO MAY HAVE INFORMATION. ONCE I HAVE SPOKEN WITH HIM, I CAN PASS ON WHAT I KNOW TO YOU.

He nodded once, indicating the particular subject was closed, and gestured towards a large top hat made of fuzzy purple and red material. I BELIEVE THIS MAY BE TO YOUR TASTES?

Point and joke both made, he returned his attention to Kit. TWO FOR TWO, I SEE. HAVE YOU GOT A PRIZE IN MIND?

Kit looked around at the prizes, and saw one that amused him. "Actually, I do." He flicked the dart again, and grinned as it burst another balloon. "I'd like that dog, please." The owner of the stand went to grab a black one, and Kit shook his head. "No, the black and white one, please." The owner smiled and handed the dog to Kit, who laughed and tucked it under his arm.

She moved a little closer to Death. "I'm glad that you have been keeping an eye on things. I think me may soon need to stat amassing others, yes?"

She then dropped the whisper and said aloud, "Thank you kindly." She put the hat on. "I think it looks smashing."

She then looked over to Kit. "And a rather fine looking specimen of canine."

Death watched as Kit popped his final balloon, wondering at the reasoning behind his choice: quite frankly, he didn't get the joke. This was not the time to wonder, however. He'd met an old acquaintance and made a new one, and he had someone he needed to meet. AS AMUSING AS THIS HAS BEEN, I HAVE A MEETING TO ATTEND. YOU ARE WELCOME TO COME WITH ME IF YOU LIKE. The invitation extended to both Kit and Alice as he turned to head towards the entrance. PLUS, I SEEM TO HAVE RUN OUT OF HANDS TO CARRY PRIZES.

"Thank you, Alice." Kit patted the plush's head, and looked at Death. "I don't mind coming. It's not like I really have too much to do here, anyway. Perhaps we'll run into more people to meet." And maybe something to eat, he thought. Then again that was more of something Ponch would say.

Alice nodded and walked with her companions. She hated to admit it, but the thrill was coming back: the chase, the feelings of finding a foe and beating them down. Alice knew she was a little sadistic, but unlike most people who were at the asylum, she wasn't so at random. No, she saved her punishment for the enemy, the ones who DID kill at random, for amusement. For them, she spared nothing.

Perhaps that was a little sadistic. She supposed it may have even been a part that Chizuru herself couldn't remove. Maybe it may have even been attractive.

Alice didn't know, and frankly could care less at this point. Personal thoughts came later, business first.

"Lead the way, Death."

ALL RIGHT. Death walked through the game area's exit, heading towards the food tent and his meeting. It was the reason he'd come, after all - he was here to gather information on the Organization. The plush prizes from the games had been an added, if unexpected bonus.

But it was in a food tent, after all. Perhaps they would serve curry there.
