The Meeting of Two Wanderers [Completed]
Character(s): Kenshin, Jintetsu
Content: A drifter and a rurouni meet. ^_^
Setting: Around L6-L7
Time: Morningish
Warnings: None.
He'd spoken to a lot of the city-folk the day before, and hadn't been able to get much from them at all, much to his dismay, however they had been very eager to teach him how to use the strange object he'd been given.
It had taken him awhile, and a lot of advice, but Kenshin soon had a slight grasp of how to use the thing, although how it worked still puzzled him no end, but he decided it wasn't worth trying to understand at the moment.
The object was just one of the many puzzles about this place. Saitou was another puzzle. Kenshin had no idea how he could think he'd 'taken care of' Soujirou, when ... well he hadn't. Soujirou hadn't seemed to know what Saitou was talking about either, so at least that was somewhat comforting.
But another thing troubled him, if Saitou and Soujirou was here ... where was everyone else? Could more he knew or his friends be here? He hoped they weren't, but ... if somehow they were he would have to find them!
Other than discovering if any others he knew were here, he was at a bit of a loss at what the do. He'd been simply wandering, which was something he knew well how to do.
He'd spent one night in a cold alley, but had managed, though now felt a little still today. Slipping his arms into his kimono, he walked along the cobblestone, as he wondered what to do. Oblivious of the strange stares of the city's people who paused as he walked past. He was used to it, so had no problems ignoring it.

The streets had been largely deserted all night, but as the sun and the people began to come out again, he was also receiving his share of odd looks. He didn't care. Let them stare at the man in the steel mask; he'd be gone soon enough.
For the most part, he kept his pace quick and his head down, only occasionally looking out from under his woven hat. Eventually he decided to cut through an alley and double back, but he emerged suddenly and accidentally bumped into someone at the other end.
As he recovered, he didn't see the other man's face past his own hat, but he did notice the sword at his belt. Well, there was only to hope he didn't take Jintetsu's inattention personally. He tipped his hat toward the swordsman, gave him a quick "Excuse me," and started to continue on his way.

"Oro!"
A soft cry of surprise came from the rurouni's throat as someone suddenly bumped into him as they came unexpectedly from an alleyway. Kenshin recovered fairly quickly, blinking his wide violet eyes as he realized he was looking at a japanese hat, which quickly caught his attention.
"Ah, many apologies. Sessha was not looking where he was going, that he wasn't," he apologized, even though he was only part at fault, to the stranger. He watched curiously as the other man moved to continue on his way, Kenshin's sharp eyes quickly locking onto the katana at the other's side.

He stopped and turned back halfway to get a better look at him. The red hair was a bit surprising, almost as if the man couldn't decide whether or not he was a foreigner. It was weird, but then again, so was everything else about this city, so he ignored it. The city itself bothered him more.
"What han is this?" he asked succinctly, after a few seconds. He already thought he knew what feudal domain he was in, but a city this big couldn't have sprung up overnight there without anyone noticing.

"...Han?" he echoed. That caught the rurouni a little off-guard. Three years into the Meji era, 'han' had been abolished in favor of prefectures. It had been sometime since he had heard that word used. "Er, you mean... ah, no it is not important," Kenshin said, having a feeling it was rather pointless as he was very sure they were no where near japan, much less in a han or prefecture.
"This ... is apparently somewhere called Paixao, and does not appear to be in Japan at all," he lifted the journal from where he had it stashed carefully in his kimono sleeve, "That is what sessha has been able to determine from this... er... "thing" at any rate. Sessha was near Kyoto before he ended up here... This is... most confusing, that it is..." he explained, passing what knowledge he had on, which wasn't a lot. He wished he could be more helpful, but at least he was able to offer more than the bystanders gave.

He did notice the similarity between Kenshin's journal and the "thing" he'd been given at the gate, which he'd put in his bag and hadn't looked at since, but didn't say anything about it.

"Impossible? That it should be, yet..." he glanced around a moment, violet eyes peeking around his bangs before settling back on the stranger, "Sessha has wandered much of Japan, and this just is not anything sessha has seen before. It does not make any sense."
"It should be Japan, yet, it is most certainly not," Kenshin finally said, with a shake of his head. "Sessha almost thought this a dream when he first arrived... it is too bad it feels too real to possibly be one. A dream would be an easy way to explain everything, that it would."
"Where are you from?" he asked curious, the stranger drawing more of his interest. Although, he almost wondered if he should be asking, more to the point, when. Between Saitou seemingly believing him to have done things he had not done, and now this stranger using an old term for something now gone, it was starting to make him wonder.
(OOC: No problem XD He's being more responsive than Saitou and Soujirou was ;D haha)

The last question, though, he initially answered with silence. It wasn't any of this guy's business where he was from, especially since he'd only known him for about two minutes. The stranger hadn't even introduced himself. And if they really weren't in Japan at all, it was irrelevant.
"I'm just a drifter," he said eventually, and it was true. There was no place he called home anymore.
no subject
He also realized he'd asked a few too many questions. Usually unlike him, but he was eager for answers, especially after the un-helpful conversation he'd had with Saitou and Soujirou, but it seemed drifter had less to offer. Did no one have anything much to say on the subject?
"Ah, my apologies. Sessha is but a rurouni himself," he stated, understanding the way of a drifter all too well.
(ooc: sorry for reposting .. realize I really screwed up a sentence there XD)

"If this isn't Japan, then where are we?" he asked, getting abruptly back on topic. He was still pretty skeptical about the whole thing.

Sadly Kenshin had nothing much more than a gut feeling, he wasn't sure yet how to prove it. "The only answer sessha has been able to get is "Paixao" and that there is only Paixao. No one seems to know anything, but that!" the rurouni replied, letting out a slight sigh, "Although, sessha noticed on this... thing... there does seem to be many others who mention places sessha has not heard of before either..."
"There must be someone out there who does know more, so sessha shall contiune to wander, and hope he will find them," he finally said after a moments pause. Adjusting his sakabatou lightly at his side, he looked ready to continue on his way. He wished he could be more helpful, but there just was nothing to add, unfortunately.

He lifted the journal, and attempted to get it open again and find the map he'd been shown. While he managed slowly, it took several long moments and utterings of 'oro' under his breath to manage to finally figure out again how to bring up the map.
"Hmm, there is something called "Cid's Shop", but that is the only obvious possibility. The names of most places here are ... very strange. Sessha is not sure what to make of them," he said holding the object out for Jintetsu to look at if he wished to look himself at the map.

It took him a few seconds to find Cid's Shop on the map. West-ish, it looked like. He wouldn't remember how to get there just from this, but he did have a similar device to this one in his bag, so if he needed a map again, he'd have one.
He nodded once. "I see. Thank you," he said succinctly, then turned and headed in the direction of the shop.

Managing to close the thing again he tucked it back into his sleeve and glanced around. Well, now what to do. Not really having many options he contiuned in the direction he'd been heading for now, south. To do what? He wasn't yet sure, but hopefully he'd figure something out.
